LASEMA Declares Partially Collapsed 2-Storey Building Unsafe

A partially collapsed two-storey building located at Shanuaje Street in Iju, outskirts of Lagos towards Ogun state.


The said two-storey building according to the SOS message, 'collapsed into half this afternoon (Sunday) about 200 metres from Dana plane crash (site) at Toyin bus stop, lju- lshaga. Thanks".


In spite of the swift response of the LASEMA Rescue Team, it took two scouting operations to locate the reported collapsed building at Toyin bus stop, lju- lshaga.


Preliminary Report on the Partially Collapsed two-storey Building at Shanuaje Street in Iju has it that, upon arrival, the Agency’s officials was observed that the rear of the two storey building had partially collapsed due to an apparent lack of maintenance.

"The Agency’s men also observed that the occupants of the affected building had long been evicted from the building before its collapse yesterday.

"It was also further observed that the building had been previously marked by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA). The building has been cordoned off.

"Testing has revealed that the structure is unstable and poses a high risk to the neighborhood .

"A Controlled Demolition will be carried out and we will keep the people of Lagos updated"
