Speaking at the flag off campaign of the distribution of 100,000 note books and 5000 uniforms to students in government-owned primary and secondary schools located within our community, the Executive Chairman outlined his administration's interventions in the educational sector in the last seven years. "We have built classrooms, toilets and carried out renovation at some of the 26 primary schools owned by government in our council area.
"On my watch, the council in the last few years provided four shuttle buses to convey pupils of public schools in the area to their various schools and return them after closing.
"On many occasions, the council distributed chairs, tables to government-owned schools, writing materials, school bags and uniforms to their pupils.
"It may interest you to know that the uniforms, chairs and tables were made by tailors, and furniture makers respectively residing in our area.
"The same as school bags, which the contract to make them was awarded to those in the business in our midst.
"Our decision to award the contract for those uniforms, chairs, tables and bags to local contractors is one of our ways of empowering our artisans and boosting the economy of our community.
"To the credit of my regime, with the aim of giving students from our area easy access to modern examination centre, we built a Computer-Based Test, CBT centre, a project never done before by any local government administration in the country.
"In the same vein, we now have in place an e-library while our vocational training centre continues to turn out hundreds of graduates.
"It's our habit to buy in large number JAMB and GCE forms for free distribution to indigent students. Egunjobi concluded.
A SUBEB permanent Member, Adedoyin said, even a free pen at this critical time is a relief to parent not to talk of hundreds of thousands of Notebooks and uniforms, this is a laudable one.
A right intervention in a right time, said the Education Secretary, Mrs. CM Ogunyomi following what we have witnessed as school resumes few weeks ago.
She said some parents could not feed their wards properly not to talk of buying learning materials for their children.
"This intervention is not the first and will never be the last, thank you Mr. Chairman Sir", said Ogunyomi
AgegePulse learnt that the distribution will commence tomorrow 24th September, 2024
