Why I donated First Aid boxes to Public Primary schools in Agege - Hon. JS Babatunde's SA, Adewunmi Feyisara Reveals

Research make us to understand that, Schools are where children spend most of their time learning, playing, and making friends. Hence, schools are also a place where children, especially the younger ones, are vulnerable to injuries and illness.

This makes first aid care a requirement for teachers and school staff. Teachers and other school personnel can provide prompt first aid care in the absence of health professionals while in school.

This ideology makes it pertinent for the SA to the Executive Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA  on Legislative Matters, Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Prince Adewunmi Feyisara to look into the welfare of the pupils of primary schools in  Ward F area of Agege  through the donations of First Aid boxes to 8 (Eight) Public Primary  schools in Agege today with the flag off at Akilo Primary School.

In a brief interview, Prince Adewunmi said he was motivated to give the first aid boxes after seeing a child after closing hour injured from school and was not given a first Aid treatment. It baffles me and I vowed to create a solution in this regard.

He promised to donate to more schools in the ward with a periodic maintenance of the boxes with drugs.

Earlier, The LGEA Health Officer, Mr. Bayo Bakare highlighted the significance of first aid box in school, " the time they spend in school is a critical part of a children’s life, and it can have a direct impact on their physical and mental health. Health and safety are one the most neglected part of both school policy and practice.

"Schools play a significant role in health and safety for two major reasons. First, the schools offer learning opportunities, and second, pupils spends a significant amount of their growing years in schools. During their stay, they will become involved in various activities, including sports and outdoor exercises. Not prioritising health and safety directly affects the management of common illnesses.

"As we all know, children are vulnerable to many types of injuries and accidents. It may vary from minor injuries to major accidents, resulting in bleeding and broken bones, the first aid in no doubt is a significant one for us in our schools.
