Aje Senior High School Emerges Champion at 7th Opeifa Cup Grand Finale

The 7th Edition of the Lagos State Secondary Schools Handball Competition, popularly known as the Opeifa Cup, came to an exciting close yesterday Friday October 31, 2025, at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos.




In the Senior Male Category Final, Aje Senior High School, Yaba, triumphed over Whitesand Senior College with a commanding scoreline of 16 – 9, securing the championship title after a thrilling and energetic encounter that kept spectators on their feet.



The competition, organized by Dr. Kayode Opeifa, aims to discover, nurture, and promote young handball talents across Lagos State while fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among secondary school students.


Dr. Opeifa commended all participating schools, coaches, and officials for their commitment to youth sports development, reiterating his dedication to sustaining the legacy of the Opeifa Cup as a platform for future champions.

Lagos Emerges Fifth Best African City To Live, Work In – Global Report

A 2023 Brand Finance City Index report has placed Lagos state as the fifth best African city to live, work, and invest.

Lagos came in fifth place with a 56.7 per cent desirability mark, behind Cape Town, South Africa, toping place the list with a 62.9 per cent mark,   and Cairo, Egypt, coming in second place with a 60.7 per cent score.


Johannesburg, South Africa emerged third on the list with a 59.7 per cent score, Casablanca, Morocco, fourth, with a 59.3 per cent score, and Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, came in 6th place behind Nigeria, with a 55.1 per cent score.


All six African countries not only made it onto the top 100 global chart appearing in numbers 60, 67, 72, 76, 90, and 94 respectively, but they also are the only African countries on the chart. 


The top three cities on the chart include London, England, scoring 84.6 per cent, New York, United States came in second place with 83.0  and Paris, France, third place with a 79.7 per cent score.


The report also revealed that “the ranking is based on a global survey of close to 15,000 members of the public conducted in April 2023 in 20 countries on all continents to measure perceptions of the world’s top 100 cities."


Although Zurich, Switzerland, bagged the number 17th spot on the global chart with 72.0 per cent, the city remains the best in the world for investment.

#Education: 16-Year Old Student Jemimah Emerges Lagos One Day Governor| AgegePulse Magazine



A 16-year old student of Angus Memorial Senior High School, Jemimah Marcus, has emerged as the winner of the Y2020 Lagos State Spelling Bee competition at the grand finale held on Tuesday at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, after a tense final competition with six other students.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, who was visibly pleased with the participants and winners, commended the brilliant performance of all participating students and schools.


She added that the high level of performance from the students underscores the fact that the State Government is committed to the delivery of quality education geared towards improving teaching and learning in Lagos public schools.


On her part, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni expressed appreciation to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for keeping faith with the competition.


She stated further that the Office of Education Quality Assurance will continue to drive measures to improve the standards and academic excellence in both private and public schools in line with global best practices.


Mrs. Seriki-Ayeni applauded the parents and teachers for giving the students the opportunity to achieve all-round quality education, imploring the participants to continue to imbibe good morals that will help them achieve higher goals in life. 


The Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Mrs. Funso Raji, disclosed that the competition, which has become a household name in Nigeria, has put Lagos State at the forefront of quality education delivery.


While extolling the efforts of the winners, as well as all participants in the annual completion, the Lagos State First Lady encouraged the students not to rest on their oars but strive to achieve greater heights.


Apart from having the opportunity of being the Lagos One Day Governor, Miss Marcus was presented with a cash gift of N250, 000, while the first runner up, Master Sotin Ajose of Topo Senior Grammar School, Badagry, got the sum of N150, 000 and the second runner up, Miss Rhema Edeh from Denton Junior Grammar School, Ebutta Metta received a cash gift of N100, 000.
