Education: EDD1, Health District 1, Hold Seminar For Food Vendors to Enhance Hygienic Food Supply in Lagos Schools

The Lagos State Education District 1 in collaboration with Health District 1 on Friday  asked food handlers and health teachers to step up hygiene in the handling and preparation of food to reduce malnutrition in children in the district.



The joyous Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Lagos Education District 1, Agege Mr. Mr. Bashir Adebowale, spoke at the Seminar for food handlers and health teachers under the District, Comprising , Agege, Ifako and Alimosho, advised vendors to all take their health issues very seriously.


Speaking at the event, Mrs. Onikoyi Tawakalitu charged the school food  vendors on proper handwash, cleaning of kitchen utensils, and making their environment clean at all times.



Onikoyi said consuming unwholesome food without balance diet or that contained infectious or toxic substances was injurious to health.



According to Nutritionist, Mr. Olawole advised vendors that good nutrition involves the supply of essential nutrients in adequate proportion, adding that maintaining the highest standards of hygiene while working with food components reduces the spread and multiplication of pathogenic micro-organisms.



Miss Kafayat Adeyemi spoke on the benefits and advantages of Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA),  commended enrollees of the ILERA EKO health insurance plan for the support, patronage and utilisation of the scheme and also advised participants to take the opportunity to enroll their families for quality health care services in the state.



The Agency, according to her, is working relentlessly to ensure that access to healthcare is seamless and that Providers render quality service delivery at all times.

Earlier in the welcome address, Director, Vocational & General Competition, Education District 1, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinsehinwa said the training was put together to make the district food handlers a better people after the program.




She maintained that its responsibility of the district of ensuring quality, safe and hygienic environment, has embarked on training of food handlers and health teachers in the district to ensure compliance with best practices and food security for all students,” she added.


At the end certificates of participation were given to the vendors.
