TMF commends Tinubu’s push for State Police, hails security reform agenda

The Tinubu Media Force (TMF), described as Nigeria’s largest progressive grassroots media network, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for advancing the long-standing debate on State Police into what it termed a concrete reform agenda.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Oluwagbenga Abiola (Agbelebu), the group praised the President for what it described as courage, foresight and statesmanship in pursuing one of the most significant security reform initiatives in the country’s democratic history.

TMF noted that the increasing complexity of security challenges across Nigeria requires innovative, community-based and decentralized approaches to policing.

According to the group, President Tinubu’s support for the establishment of State Police demonstrates a clear understanding of the security realities confronting communities nationwide and acknowledges that effective policing thrives on local intelligence, community trust and rapid response capabilities.

The organization further stated that policing becomes more efficient when security personnel possess a deep understanding of the unique social, cultural and security dynamics of the areas they serve.

TMF expressed confidence that the proposed reform would strengthen internal security architecture, enhance crime prevention efforts and improve public safety across the country.

The group observed that for decades, Nigerians across political, regional, and ideological divides have advocated for a more responsive security structure capable of complementing the efforts of federal security agencies. TMF noted that President Tinubu has shown remarkable leadership by moving beyond rhetoric and providing the political will necessary to advance a reform many consider essential to national stability and development.

TMF further commended the Nigerian Senate for its swift and responsible engagement with the initiative, describing the upper legislative chamber’s actions as a demonstration of patriotism and commitment to addressing one of the nation’s most pressing challenges.

“The security of lives and property remains the foundation upon which economic growth, investment, social stability, and national prosperity are built. The ongoing efforts to establish State Police represent a bold attempt to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, improve intelligence gathering, enhance emergency response capabilities, and deepen collaboration between security agencies and local communities,” the statement noted.

The organization stressed that the proposed reform should not be viewed through partisan lenses but as a national imperative designed to strengthen the federation and improve the safety of all Nigerians irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion.

TMF also noted that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to build stronger institutions, promote good governance, and create an environment where citizens and businesses can thrive without fear or insecurity.

While acknowledging that constitutional safeguards, accountability mechanisms, and operational frameworks will be critical to the success of State Police, the group expressed confidence that ongoing consultations among stakeholders will produce a model that protects citizens’ rights while enhancing public safety.
