Lagos State Reports Groundbreaking Achievements across 57 LGs/LCDAs


…pays N775 Million Insurance Benefits to 271 beneficiaries


In its unwavering commitment to grassroots governance, community development, and administrative excellence, the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, today announced a comprehensive overview of its impactful activities across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) at the Year 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagaulda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa-Ikeja.



The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development; Mr Bolaji Kayode Robert made this announcement during the Press Briefing which held earlier today, stating that the Ministry through the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has facilitated the disbursement of N775,071,226.16 in Insurance Benefits to 271 beneficiaries – families of deceased SUBEB and Local Government staff who died in active service. 

While addressing the press, Mr Robert added that the Ministry processed 85 Capital Projects across the 57 Councils and received approvals for the execution of these projects, which were monitored and inspected to ensure value for taxpayers' money.

He noted that the Ministry resolved 104 petitions and intensified environmental sanitation advocacy across markets, working closely with Community Development Associations and traditional leaders, thereby improving hygiene standards among meat-sellers with a proactive approach to disease prevention.

Mr Robert informed that the administration of Mr Governor has continued to consolidate efforts with allied agencies and Government parastatal to ensure infrastructure meets hygiene in the development of markets across the State, especially with its collaboration with the Office of the First Lady and COWLSO, to hold periodic hygiene and security seminars for market leaders in key districts.

He also hinted that the Ministry through the Lagos State Market Development Board completed 15 public toilet and borehole projects across markets in all five divisions of the state, adding that, the Ministry is also poised to commence the construction of similar interventions in 98 other markets in the coming months. 

Mr Robert also asserted that the administration of Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has continued to strengthen the cultural fabric of the State leveraging on strong partnership with Traditional Institution of the State through retreats and meetings for Traditional Rulers. He also added that the State Government in the last one year has completed major palace projects, which includes the renovation of Elemoro Palace and the construction of the Olowu of Owu-Ikosi’s palace, the installation of 10 new Obas, and the issuance of 123 recognition letters to Baales and Chiefs, which underlines the State Government's commitment to preserving heritage while supporting royal institutions.


Mr Robert also intimated that the Ministry resolved intra-LGA boundary resolutions, installed 22 signposts and facilitated numerous mediations that prevented communal clashes. These efforts, he said has ensured continued peaceful co-existence, safeguarding the State’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading business destination.

He concluded that the Ministry also issued 14 regulatory circulars, 43 special licenses, 12 church licenses, and distributed 176 marital documents to councils for official use—bolstering the integrity of civic and religious activities in the state.
