Tragic Incident: Lady Jumps into Lagos Lagoon, Dies

 Eniola Ajose

Lagos was thrown into shock on Thursday after a woman tragically jumped into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge. Authorities confirmed her death following reports of the incident at approximately 4 PM.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, released a statement on the matter, confirming that the Marine Police responded swiftly to the emergency. The rescue team recovered the woman’s body near the UNILAG shore slipway, a location that has witnessed many significant events in the past.

Local medical officials at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) examined the victim and officially confirmed her death in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division. Her remains have since been transferred to the Yaba Infectious Disease Hospital mortuary for further procedures.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event to determine the reasons behind her actions. Authorities have not disclosed the woman’s identity or any potential factors leading to the incident.

This unfortunate event reignites concerns over safety along major Lagos routes, particularly around bridges and waterfronts. Reports indicate that accidental drownings and suicide attempts have become a growing issue in the state, prompting calls for increased security measures and preventive interventions.

Experts and concerned citizens urge the government to implement stronger safety protocols around critical infrastructure to reduce such occurrences. The swift response from emergency teams in this case highlights the importance of rapid intervention and thorough investigations to prevent future tragedies.
