…assures timely delivery of project
Lagos State Government has officially flagged-off the construction of a 540-metre road project at Alhaji Jimoh Drive/Baptist Church Street, in Iba LCDA, as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing rural and suburban infrastructure across the State.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development; Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje expressed delight at the commencement of the project, describing it as an intervention that reaffirms the State Government’s dedication to inclusive development, in ensuring that no community is left behind. He added that the numerous rural projects embarked upon by Mr Governor is a clear demonstration of this administration’s unwavering commitment to building a 21st Century Economy for all Lagosians.
The 540-metre road construction, located at Alhaji Jimoh Drive/Baptist Church Street, is one of several projects being executed under the Rural Infrastructure Development Initiative of the Sanwo-Olu administration. The initiative aims to open up inner communities, ease mobility, reduce travel time, and promote economic inclusion.
Dr Agbaje also hinted that in the last two months alone, the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, under the approval of Mr. Governor, has flagged off three other key projects across the State. A 360-metre road at Ladejobi Ita-Alaje Road in Ikorodu; a 4.2-kilometre road at Onosa Y-Junction, Fokunmade Road 4 in Ibeju-Lekki; and a 200-metre road at Sanni Street in Ifelodun LCDA.
“These projects are bold statements of intent by the Governor,” he added, “demonstrating his commitment to equitable rural development, curbing rural-urban migration, and improving quality of life for residents across Lagos.”
The project is expected to address challenges such as poor road access, loss of productive hours, and difficulty in accessing emergency and social services. It will also foster social equity, business growth, and community integration within Alimosho and its environs.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, while giving her welcome address, expressed appreciation to Mr. Governor for approving another major road project for rural communities across the State.
She congratulated residents and stakeholders of Ijagemo on the development brought into their communities by the Sanwo-Olu administration, urging them to take ownership of the project by ensuring the safety of contractors and the protection of the infrastructure.
Also speaking, a retired Permanent Secretary and community resident, Dr. Yusuf Jimoh, applauded Mr. Governor for his sustained effort in transforming rural communities across Lagos through community-focused infrastructural projects.
Also thanking the Governor for the ongoing Ijagemo road connecting the main road to the inner communities in the area.
In the same vein, the APC Chairman, Iba LCDA, Alhaji Oyefolu Jamiu, the CDC Chairman, Iba LCDA, Dr. Thomas Abogunleri, and the Ijakemo Central CDA Chairman, Mr. Mukaila Bamigbade, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to developing inner roads across rural communities. They noted that the road project would give Ijagemo community a new lease of life and help reduce rural-urban migration.
They also pledged to collaborate with the contractor to ensure the seamless execution and timely completion of the project, reiterating their commitment to community ownership and protection of government infrastructure.
Representative of the contractor, Engineer Oriola Ajibola, while giving his technical brief, assured that the road project would be completed before the six-month deadline stipulated by the Office of Rural Development. He stated that the company was determined to deliver quality infrastructure that would serve the people efficiently and promptly.
Present at the flag-off ceremony were party chieftains, community leaders, market men and women, as well as residents of the Ijagemo community, who expressed gratitude for the State Government’s continued investment in grassroots development.
