Tinubu threatens Lagos APC chairman, party chieftains with sack

The National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed his disappointment at the result posted by the ruling party in Lagos State in last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly, blaming it on the party chieftains in the state.
At the presidential election held last Saturday, APC in Lagos polled over 580, 825 votes, a far cry from the three million votes Tinubu promised President Muhammadu Buhari in the run up to the election while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Abubarkar Atiku, scored 448,015.
Seething with anger on account of the result, the former Lagos governor at the campaign office of Babajide Sanwoolu, in GRA Ikeja, on Thursday met with the party chieftains among whom were its chairman, Tunde Balogun, the governorship candidate himself, Sanwo-olu, and other members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, including Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro,   Dr. Yomi Finnih, and Sanwo-olu’s running-mate, Dr. Femi Hamzat.
At the meeting ahead of March 9 governorship and State Assembly election, Tinubu threatened fire and brimstone if the result fell short of his expectation saying he won’t spare any of the chieftains.
His word, “Please, don’t praise me, I don’t need your praises, after the poor performance you all put up at the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
“It showed that most of the chieftains and council chairmen did not mobilize the grassroots after all the support from the party.
“I will not condone this act any further. Party leaders and council chairmen who fail to perform to expectation at the next governorship and House of Assembly polls on March 9, should be ready to resign or face the music.
“We have over three million registered APC members and yet the performance last Saturday was poor.
“The chairman of the state party, (Babatunde Balongun) should know that his position is not a permanent one. If he fails, he will have to go too.”
