Egunjobi congratulates Sanwo-Olu

By Esan Sefiu

The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, has congratulated Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, winner of Tuesday’s Lagos All Progressive Congress governorship primary.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode’s reelection bid went up in smoke as he bit the dust, losing to Babajide, the current Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) in the party primary held across the old twenty local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of the Election Committee, former Akwa-Ibom Governor, Clement Ebiri, who initially invalidated the election result in which Gov. Ambode polled 72,901 while Babajide has 970, 851 votes, reversed himself on Wednesday and validated the result by duly signing it.

Egunjobi, who is also the Director, Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and Students, in a statement he released following the declaration of Babajide as the winner of the primary, paid tribute to the victor, describing him as “a mirror of nobility”.

“Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu by all accounts deserved to be applauded for a race well ran. He has always been a rock of level headedness and during the race, he demonstrated this attribute.

“Despite the vitriol hauled at him by his opponent and his name dragged in the mud, he kept his feet on the ground. In victory he was humble as reflected by his victory speech today wherein he thanked his opponent for ‘a good fight’.

“In fact, Sanwo-Olu is a mirror of nobility,” the council chief said.

Egunjobi hailed the party members in Agege for turning out en masse for the primary urging them to repeat same feat in the general election scheduled for next year.

According to him, “I commended our members for their impressive turnout despite the postponements of the primary on a number of occasions. Finally, they have made decision by voting massively for Sanwo-Olu. This is not the end of the race. The big battle lies ahead and we must record a landslide victory.”

THANK YOU LAGOS YOUTHS, THANK YOU LAGOS STUDENTS, THANK YOU LAGOSIANS.

The convener, Sanwoolu youths and students campaign organisation SYSCO, Hon.Gbenga Abiola AGBELEBU has expressed a profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to lagosians who came out enmasse to elect Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governorship candidate to fly the flag of our great party, the All Progressives Congress APC.

"Your overwhelming support as expressed by the massive turnout and active participation at the direct primary today is an attestation to your believe in our symbol, Mr Sanwoolu, the supremacy of our great party, APC and democratic tenets", Hon Gbenga posited.

Lending his voice, the director of media, publicity and public affairs communication of SYSCO, Comrade Agbabiaka Ahmed said,
"Over the past week, we have had reasons to engage party faithfuls on thier opinions, interests and principles, placed side by side the position of the party and the need to replace the statusquo with a functional one, especially on core issues of good governance, transparency, accessibility and robust public engagement, purpose driven infrastructural development and spread, and most importantly, participatory and inclusive governance as witnessed during the administrations of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN. While Scores bought into our argument without hesitation, dozens  hesitated, but at the polls today, their numbers accross the wards had drastically reduced to '4', '3', '5', '7', '2' and in some cases, Zero, against the corresponding thousands recorded for our symbol, Mr. Sanwoolu. In the end, we are all winners"

"Dear lagosians, its time for the real work and we cannot relent at this point in time, until the general elections.
It is not because we want Mr Sanwoolu, President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to just win in Lagos state, but we want the victory to come in landslides, with a record margin of atleast five(5) million votes."

Hon Gbenga also comended the sagacity of the Babajide Olushola Sanwoolu Campaign Organisation BOSCO, ably led by the ever meticulous, selfless, generous and accomodating Director general, Mr. Tayo Ayinde. Lagosians have recognized your efforts today, they will do more moving forward until VICTORIA ASCERTA!

The body also recognized and comended the sacrifice of Dr. Femi Hamzat whose actions in the build up to this day reminded us of the need to alway put the party first.

"Couple of days back, you told us about the personal integrity, great humility and extraordinary intelligence of our symbol, Mr. Sanwoolu, stemming from your personal interractions and working relationship with him, lagosian were confronted with an avenue to confirm those assertions. In the face of baseless and unsubstantiated provocation and verbal attacks from an unexpected source, Mr Sanwoolu not only prove to poccess  the above qualities, he added inspirational leadership, focus and self restraint to the tally. The teeming youths of the Omoluabi race and nigeria as whole have learnt a great deal from him".

"Dear lagosians, now that we have both the magnitude and direction, lets make the greatest impact as we usher Sanwoolu to the Lagos house, alausa come 2019".

Director, Public affairs communications, media and publicity, SYSCO.

Breaking: APC refutes cancellation of Lagos governorship primary

October 2, 2018Olamide Fadipe

The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress has said he is not aware of any cancellation of the governorship primaries ongoing in Lagos; thus putting paid to report of any such cancellation.

Yekini Nabena spoke in a brief telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES.

“I am not aware (of any such cancellation),” the spokesperson said minutes after he released a statement announcing the cancellation of the primary in Imo State.

Mr Nabena clarified an earlier report by this newspaper on the reported cancellation.

The primary pitches the incumbent Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, against Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has the support of majority of the APC leaders in Lagos. It commenced across the state on Tuesday morning after two postponements

APC NWC Explains Postponement Of Lagos Gov Primary

Clement Ebiri, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, had said a "fresh time and date for the election will be announced later".
According to Ebiri, the committee had just got the list of the party agents of one of the aspirants in the race barely an hour ago.
As reported earlier by SaharaReporters, election held in some local government areas of the state earlier in the day, with Babajide Sanwo-Olu polling majority of votes in many of the venues.
However, the committee in charge of state’s election has now dissociated itself from any election earlier held.
Ebiri said all materials meant for the election were still in their custody, hence election could not have held.
"We reached out to the party executives to submit list that would be utilised for the purpose of posting officials to supervise the elections. That list only arrived about an hour ago and so anything that was done without the list that we wanted ... because we wanted harmony, so we waited for them. We waited for about 10 hours without getting anything," he said.
“There is no way we could have gone ahead to do anything. It is only fair that if you don’t see one party you wait and that is what has brought us to this point.
“We gave them (party executive) an appointment and at the meeting we all discussed some of these modalities and asked them to bring the names of these agents so that we could use for this exercise but we received from a party just an hour ago.”

BREAKING: Ambode’s Commissioner For Information & Strategy Dumps Him For Sanwo-Olu

The happenings ahead of the highly anticipated Lagos State gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took another turn few hours ago as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan, has dumped him for his opposition candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

InsideMainland learnt that Bamigbetan declared total support for Sanwo-Olu at his Ejigbo residence, Lagos Mainland, yesterday, Monday, October 1, 2018, in front of party leaders, members and other stakeholders.

According to Echo News, Bamigbetan’s move was in connection with the resolution of the party leaders to adopt Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the All Progressive Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Lagos State gubernatorial election in 2919.

During the declaration, Bamigbetan urged party leaders and members in Oshodi-Isolo that Sanwo-Olu must get 100 per cent votes during the party’s gubernatorial primary election holding today, Tuesday, October 2, 2018, across the state.

While addressing the party members, Bamigbetan stated that his action was precipitated on the majority’s decision of the party leaders and the directive of the party National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Commissioner thereby ordered the party leaders under him to mobilize the entire members of APC in Oshodi-Isolo and Ejigbo to cast vote for Sanwo-Olu.

He reiterated that his loyalty remained for the party National Leader, Bola Tinubu, and the party as a whole, saying he could not do anything contrary to the party’s directive at this point in time.

Why I was absent at Independence Day parade — Saraki

By Henry Umoru & Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA—

The rift between the executive and the legislative arms of government, once again, manifested at the 58th Independence Day anniversary as the leadership of the National Assembly was conspicuously absent.

But two former Heads of State, Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, alongside Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, were among the dignitaries that witnessed the Independence parade with President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, were elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015, but recently dumped the president’s party for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The Senate President is one of the presidential aspirants on the PDP platform, while Dogara has also picked the PDP House of Representatives nomination form. Saraki and Dogara President Buhari did not make any speech at the ceremony that saw different armed forces displaying their combat readiness in case of any external aggression and even internal strife.

The Nigeria Police was not left out, as its outriders entertained the public, which included members of the federal cabinet, Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Abba Kyari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, and other government functionaries. Also present was a former military leader, Oladipo Diya. There was inspection of guards by President Buhari, which was followed by march past in slow and quick time.

There was also march past by para-military organisations, agencies and Nigeria Police Force mounted troops. The last time the ceremony held at the Eagle Square was in 2010 under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.  That parade in 2010 was marred by bomb blasts. Since that year, subsequent independence anniversary parades were held in low key at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari, who made national broadcast marking the 58th independence anniversary at 7am yesterday, broke the jinx and arrived the Eagle Square venue of the parade around 9.30am. According to the programme circulated to guests, Saraki and Dogara  were listed to arrive the venue by 9.10a.m for the event. Even on Sunday, at the interdenominational church service at National Christian Centre, NCC, Abuja, Dogara was listed on the programme to take the second Bible reading but he was absent and the reading was then taken by former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon. There was also aerial show by Nigerian Air Force. Before departing the venue, President Buhari signed the 58th Independence anniversary register.

Why I was absent — Saraki

Explaining why he was absent at the ceremony, Senate President,  Saraki, said he was out of Abuja attending to other important political assignments as an aspirant to clinch the presidential ticket of PDP, ahead of its primaries, weekend. He also said in his home state, Kwara, the gubernatorial primary election took place yesterday and required his presence.

Special Adviser to Saraki on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, who spoke on his behalf,  said his principal was unavoidably absent at the parade ground because he would also meet with Kogi delegates to the national convention of the PDP. According to him, these are two very important political assignments that required the attention of the Senate President. Olaniyonu said:

“The Senate President and a frontline presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP is currently not in Abuja, he is at the moment in his home state, Kwara. ‘’The governorship primary is holding today (yesterday) in Kwara and he must be present and after that, he will be holding a meeting with Kogi State delegates to the PDP National Convention. These are two very important assignments that require his attention.” Spokesperson of  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Turaki Hassan, said he had no idea if his boss was invited to the event or why he was not present at the ceremony.

No roads anywhere in Lagos as residents, motorists

By Kingsley Adegboye

Lagos residents, motorists as well as commuters have continued to lament and groan under deplorable conditions of roads across the metropolis without an end in sight to the nightmare. There is hardly any stretch of road across the commercial nerve centre of the nation that is totally free of potholes, including the recently repaired stretch between Cele and Iyana-Isolo on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The section by Ilasa Bus Stop inward Oshodi, has already become a gully with a massive pothole.

Directly under the pedestrian bridge, at Mechanic bus stop, Iyana-Isolo and Five-Star, are also riddled with massive potholes while the entire service lane on both sides of the expressway, between Charity and Oshodi, is terribly bad.

Specifically, Apapa roads are worst hit by this decadence. Whether accessing Apapa through Oshodi-Tin Can end or through Wharf Road, the situation has remained irredeemable for years now. The experience navigating through Apapa during rainy season becomes  more terrible as vehicles break down, heavy-duty trucks overturn or get stuck in the mud while motorists disembark at very terrible sections of the roads to push rickety and articulated vehicles thereby causing traffic gridlock on the roads. However, in May when the federal government flagged off the reconstruction of Wharf Road, Apapa, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, assured that the next road to be given consideration for reconstruction within Apapa, would be Tin Can/Coconut section of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway because of the importance of the expressway to both Apapa port and Tin Can port. Fashola added that discussions had already begun on the issue at the federal executive council level. Also speaking on plans to reconstruct Tin Can axis of the expressway recently, the minister said “I just want to appeal to residents of Apapa, to people whose livelihood depends on Apapa, that Apapa is one of the priority roads under our priority of works to solve roads that lead to critical ports.

We also have Calabar on our radar. But one after the other, there would be an enduring solution.  According to him, “Year on year, you will see that the provisions for the budget funding of Apapa and the Tin Can Island and Mile 2 to Oworonsoki Roads, all of which evacuate the Port have not been sufficient really to deal with the cost. The cost that we are getting from the contractor there is in the region of about N100billion and above and the annual budgetary appropriation that is approved for us is about N7 billion. And then there are debts that we met. I therefore appealed to residents and other users of the road to exercise a little more patience”, Fashola noted. Related Maritime workers threaten strike over Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.   The situation is the same on Isolo/Ikotun/Egbe Road, Ikeja, Ogba, Ojodu, Oshodi, Gbagada, Abule-Egba, Iyana Ipaja, Agege and numerous other areas of Lagos metropolis. Whenever it rains in Lagos, residents are thrown into panic, despair, and anguish, as the already deplorable roads become almost impassable. From Lagos Island to the Mainland, the expressways to high streets and the inner streets, it is lamentations by residents as the roads are neglected and abandoned by both state and local governments.

Just as motorists and commuters plying Apapa/Oshodi Expressway on daily basis are lamenting the agony they go through as a result of the deplorable road condition coupled with the daily gridlock, motorists and commuters on Agege Motor Road, are not spared of this harrowing experience. From the Mushin-Idi-Oro axis to Ojuelegba end is in a terrible state that even trailer and tanker drivers now avoid the ever-busy highway, as the potholes on the road have become a serious threat to them, but those of them that dare the dangerous potholes always have a sad tale to tell as their vehicles usually break down. The smaller vehicles plying the road are always attacked by traffic robbers who take advantage of gridlock caused by the bad portions of the road and broken down vehicles. A journey of few minutes takes hours as a result of bad roads across the state. It is now a common sight to see overturned trailers, tankers and containers and broken down vehicles on a daily basis, especially when it rains. Road Safety and LASTMA officials are not helping matters, as they do not do their work as they should, but rather look for motorists to extort and worsen the traffic situation.

Mr. Hakeem Sule, a resident of Jakande Housing Estate Mile 2, was very sad while speaking with our correspondent on the situation of Lagos roads which has paralysed movement and social activities in the city. According to him, “Government at the local level is practically non-responsive as it is not doing anything about bad roads in their domains. I don’t drive my car out any more because of the deplorable condition of the roads across Lagos. I am not  prepared to work for Lagos mechanics.”

Speaking in like manner,  Mr. Vincent Agu, a businessman along Mile 2  Expressway, said  one can hardly find a road without potholes now and this has contributed immensely to the high rate of accidents and deaths in the city. He therefore called on the government to intervene as Lagos residents groan under deplorable road situation in Lagos without hope in sight. “Aside the bad roads issue, most roads lack proper road signs.

Containers are not strapped or hooked properly to the trailer and many drive with bad tyres and no brakes. Government should please do something about this; we can’t keep living like this,” Agu lamented. A resident of Gowon Estate Egbeda, Mr. Kunle Ayeni, said: “Government needs to wake up. Something has to be done, as people are dying as a result of these roads. The road leading to Gown Estate in Egbeda is terrible and plying it means regular visit to the mechanics.” Also lamenting the deplorable condition of roads across Lagos metropolis, a commercial bus driver who simply introduced himself as Emeka, said the dilapidated state of the roads across the city, is primarily due to blocked drains, pointing out that because of the blocked drains, whenever it rains, the roads become flooded. According to him, the authorities who are supposed to maintain the drains are not up and doing, stressing that their insensitivity to routine drainage maintenance is responsible for the situation on Lagos roads as the flood water continues to tear the roads apart

Independence Day Celebration: Egunjobi preaches peace, urges APC members to vote Sanwo-Olu

The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi has urged the residents of the area to eschew violence and actions capable of causing disharmony and friction among them.

Egunjobi gave this advice in his message to residents of the community on the occasion of 58th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.

“We must not allow our differences as people of different tribes and languages count in our daily dealings among ourselves. Rather, we should see strength in our diversities, and work like ants in their colony to build a virile nation that will be a pride of black race.

“Under the administration of the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria has recorded giant stride in the area of infrastructure, agriculture and the fight against the big elephant in the room, corruption. We must all join hands to make the country a better place for the next generation. No matter how little in our small corner, we have a role to play in making or marring this country,” the council chief said.

Speaking further, Egunjobi called on members of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the area, to participate en masse in the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Monday in eleven wards that constituted Agege LG enjoining them to cast their votes for Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

His word, “Sanwo-Eko is the man for the job. He is eminently qualified to make Lagos great again. He is a great listener and highly receptive unlike his rival, who is infamous for his-way-or-the-highway.”

Nigeria @58: Lagos Speaker Salutes Nigerians, Urges To Pray For Peaceful 2019 Elections

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa has called on Nigerians not to relent in praying for a peaceful general elections next year.

Rt. Hon. Obasa also urged the people of the country to desist from actions and utterances that can negatively affect the peaceful co-existence of the country.

"It's a very crucial period in Nigeria and as we move towards the 2019 general elections, I want to call on Nigerians to continue to pray for peace to reign before, during and after the elections.

"We must also eschew violence, avoid actions and utterances that can breach public peace. We must promote measures and programmes that will enhance the unity of this country.

"As parents and citizens, we must be vigilant and be watchful of friends our children and wards associate with. We must be vigilant of events in our environment and make sure we report suspicious characters and groups to security agencies in order to nip crimes in the bud.

"As youths, we should not allow ourselves to be used as agents of violence. We should not give in to unscrupulous elements in the society who will want to take advantage of our vulnerability to cause mayhem and disturb public peace," Rt. Hon. Obasa said.

He stated that the All Progressives Congress  (APC) administration at all levels is not unaware of the challenges facing the country assuring that the government will not relent in putting in place measures and programmes that will enhance the welfare of the people and improve their standard of living.

"The APC government at all levels will continue to put in place measures that will ensure that Nigerians get dividends of democracy even at their doorsteps.

"On behalf of the entire members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I wish you a happy and fruitful 58th Independence Anniversary celebration," he said.

ASKING AMBODE TO STEP DOWN IS AGAINST DEMOCRACY- CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION

…Gov’s Support Base Swells As Campaign Group Steps Up Mobilization

…237 Councillors, 3900 Community Associations, Others Back Second Term Bid

The Ambode Mandate Support Group (AMSG) on Saturday faulted reports in the media purportedly quoting the Governors Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos, asking the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to withdraw his second term bid, saying that such directive was inimical to the democracy which the party preaches.
Reacting to the purported endorsement of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu by the GAC and shift of the party primary earlier scheduled for Sunday, September 30, Director General of AMSG, Hon. Hakeem Sulaimon said the sudden turn of events does not augur well for democracy and unity of the party.

“I don’t think the GAC would have done such a thing as represented by Senator Anthony Adefuye, because a few days ago, the GAC came out to say that they have resolved that His Excellency the Governor will not be granted the same privilege granted fellow governors in other States and that every aspirant should go for the primaries.

“They (GAC members) were the ones who equally said before now that why was the Governor afraid of the primary and if they said why was the Governor afraid of the primary and the Governor has now told them that okay, I am ready for the primary, the next question we should ask is why are they afraid of going for the primary?

“The party said we are in a democracy and all the three aspirants should run, now they have shifted ground and they are asking the Governor to step down for another aspirant, why are they saying so if they are preaching about democracy?

“Giving this development, we are alerting Lagosians that having seen the turnout of party faithful in the meeting that the party called today and the supporters of His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode who had about 87 per cent of the crowd that was there, they have now all of a sudden postponed the primary that we are prepared for. We hope they are not trying to do anything that would create problem in this peace-loving State,” Sulaimon queried.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s second term bid got a major boost on Saturday as major stakeholders in the party threw their weight behind him and pledged their full support to ensure he emerges victorious at the governorship primaries.

Addressing journalists at the campaign office, Sulaimon, said they were confident that Governor Ambode would fly the party’s flag at the 2019 elections as the group had received overwhelming support from several quarters for the Governor.

“We had a meeting here yesterday and the Chairman of all LGA Chairmen in Lagos State was here and she spoke on behalf of her colleagues as having endorsed His Excellency Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. Here also yesterday, we equally had about 200 ward chairmen here in that meeting and they were equally led by their chairman who is the chair of chair of all ward chairmen in the State
“You see, what truly constitute the structure of the party is the ward and of course the LGA. Beyond the ward and the LGA, we also have the Councilors because we have 377 of the creation of Lagos State Councilors; we have 377 of the creation of Lagos State ward chairmen and so on.
“But again, just this morning, we had an assembly of over 237 Councilors here and at the end of the day, in giving the vote of thanks, one of them stood up to say they were now convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that the only person that would work for their interest and that they have realized that the most endangered political class are the councilors and that they would ensure that they work for His Excellency the Governor in their respective wards and they have assured us that we would get victory.

“We have had also groups within the party, we have had the Ndigbos who are party members; we have had market men and women who are party members and of course the biggest endorsement any one can ever get can only come from Community Development Committee (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) because everyone of us is a member of one CDA or the other and if all the 3900 CDAs in Lagos State have openly endorsed His Excellency and their representative still came here yesterday to affirm that same endorsement and if you look at this as translating to acceptance, those who are claimed to have endorsed the others, we are supposed to do direct primary if we are going to do that anyway and in direct primary, every vote must count; and at the stakeholders meeting yesterday, 85 per cent of the people in that assembly are actually supporters of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode,” Sulaimon said.

Prudent Energy handball: Seasiders, Safety Babes talk tough

Idris Adesina

Coaches of Lagos Seasiders Babes and Safety Babes Bukola Duru and Bala Mohammed have tipped  their teams to win the 2018 Prudent Energy Handball League, which ends on October 7, at the Rowe Park, Yaba.

Seasiders Babes have lost a match in the second phase of the league while Safety Babes have yet to lose a match.

Duru said her team would rise from their loss to Owena Queens after working on their weaknesses.

“That loss was a setback for the team but we will move on from there. We are determined to win this league after we won the first phase in Abuja. We are the home team in Lagos, so we know it will be tough but we have been working on our weaknesses to ensure that we don’t lose another match,” she said.

Mohammed said, “We have the players that can do us proud. Some matches will be very difficult but losing games is not an option for us. The players are also aware of the need to do well. We have been rotating our players to keep the players fresh.
“We have many games to play and by resting our experienced players toward the ends of games especially when we have a good lead will help them stay fresh. We are also guiding against injuries, which could hinder our progress.”
The coaches praised the league sponsors for supporting handball in the country.

My wife and I didn’t date, we just got married –Akpororo

Ademola Olonilua and Timileyin Akinkahunsi
While many people believe in having a long courtship with their partner in order to know them well before marriage, it seems popular comedian, Akpororo, is an exception to the rule.

In a recent chat Saturday Beats, the comedian and singer hinted that he had known his wife since she was part of a dance group and shortly after they began to exchange pleasantries, they got married.
“I did not date my wife. We are in the same industry and she was with Explicit Dance Group. We had met on some occasions and greeted each other. We never had any period to date; I would say we started dating after we got married.
“I was already popular as of the time I got married to my wife. Some people say that once you get married, your tempo or output in the industry would drop but I do not believe that because whatever you believe would happen to your career is what would happen to it. I changed the belief that you need to date someone for a long period before you get married,” he said.
The humour merchant, who affirmed that Nigerian comedians seemed to always go for beautiful women, however, said it was just a coincidence.
He said, “We work hard and we see beautiful ladies every day so it is only natural to marry a beautiful woman. It is just a coincidence that comedians have beautiful wives, but the truth is that we all love pretty women. When we talk about beauty, it does not have to do with the face alone but character, being hard-working, and a prayer warrior. We just love beautiful women.”

Lagos 2019: Lagos Lawmakers Adopt Jide Sanwo-olu

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have adopted Babajide Sanwo-olu as the candidate they will support in the coming governorship primaries of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress  (APC).

According to a statement by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Honourable (Princess) Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, the decision was taken at a Parliamentary meeting of the lawmakers which took place at Lateef Jakande auditorium of the House on Saturday, 29 September, 2019, a day before the governorship primaries of the party.

The meeting was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Out of the 40 members of the House, 36 were present at the meeting and all of them endorsed the decision and duly signed the statement announcing the decision.

The lawmakers stated that they were in agreement with the leadership of the party and the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) which had earlier endorsed Sanwo-olu for the governorship ticket.

Osun: Oshiomhole reveals APC’s agreement with Omisore

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has explained the agreement of the party with the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the Osun State governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Oshiomhole, who gave the explanation at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, said that there would not be automatic ticket for Omisore.

Responding to a question on whether the APC promised Omisore an automatic ticket to contest  a senatorial seat, He said, “I don’t like those words  ‘automatic tickets.’ I was careful even after the meeting we had with our lawmakers not to use those words.

“We will provide a level playing field for all to contest, if I didn’t promise our members automatic tickets, how can I promise a person I do not yet know?”

He noted that, perhaps, the PDP forgot that Omisore had served as a deputy governor to Chief Bisi Akande, the pioneer interim national chairman of the APC before the then PDP government “rigged them out of office.

Oshiomhole said the working relationship between Omisore’s Social Democratic Party and the APC in support of Oyetola, proved decisive.

Oshiomhole said, “I said we had a negotiation and had a deal that has to do with the governance of Osun State. I didn’t go with money and I don’t have money to give to anybody. He didn’t ask and there was no basis for him to ask.

“We agreed that he would have an opportunity for him to contest for a seat on the APC platform. Not just for Senate or House of Representatives, but also for house of assembly. That is why I said we spoke about the immediate, which is the Osun election and going forward.”

He said the APC having recognised the fact that the SDP was critical to the rerun, decided to a open negotiation with its leadership.
Oshiomhole stated,  “He (Omisore) told us that, yes he has lost, but he believes that he can still win if we have a deal that seeks to address the primary purpose of his participation in the process which is the governance of the state and specific policy issues that were of concern to him.

“We had a robust conversation and reached an agreement which I think is healthy. We didn’t have to negotiate about compensation or about paying money to anyone. The issue was about governance, education and how we can have a working relationship ahead of the general election and in future elections.

“We were able to strike a deal that has to do with the specific issues that affect the welfare and the well being of the people of Osun State. Whereas Saraki failed to strike a deal with the SDP, we secured a deal with them and now the APC, working with the SDP had a huge influence in those areas and combining our efforts, it was not strange that at the end, we won.
