AgegePulse Magazine

A member of the feeder team of the popular Ibadan-based Shooting Stars Sports Club, otherwise known as 3SC, Oginni Oluwaseyi Dayo, was on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, over alleged involvement in internet related offences.

Oginni was arrested alongside his brother-in-law, Alabi Okikiola, and his friend, Jonas Okwuwe, at a location within the Fortune Estate, Ologuneru Olonde area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Their arrest followed a petition from a neighbour, who raised high suspicion on the reckless and flamboyant life the suspect lived, without any known reasonable source of income.

Upon the receipt of the petition and further discreet investigation, operatives of the commission carried out an early morning operation that led to their arrest.

Further investigation confirmed that Oginni was truly a member of the popular soccer team’s feeder team, but an official said he has not been attending training for a long while.

In their separate statements with the Commission, Oginni said he is an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Part 1 student at the State-owned Polytechnic, Ibadan; Okwuwe claimed to be a Computer Science graduate from the Auchi Polytechnic, while Oginni’s brother-in-law, Okikiola, said he had a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, also from the Polytechnic Ibadan.

Items recovered from the suspects include laptops, iPhones and phones of other brands.

They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Our integrated transport system firmly on track - Ambode

…Commissions Ilaje Road, Bariga Waterfront Jetty, Five Ferries

…Says Projects Inspired To Give Residents Feeling Of Inclusion, Improve Standard Of Living

AgegePulse Magazine

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday commissioned the Bariga Waterfront Jetty, Five Transport Ferries and the Ilaje Road, saying that the development was a testament to the fact that the State’s integrated transport management system was firmly on track.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the unveiling of the projects, said the development would greatly lessen pressure on road transportation, reduce travel time as well as enhance connectivity within the State.

“With these projects, our State is firmly on track with our goal of establishing an integrated transport management system. These facilities will continue to impact positively on the lives of Lagosians as we strive to address traffic gridlock, reduce travel time, improve road connectivity and abate flooding,” Governor Ambode said.

He said like other projects delivered by his administration, the projects were inspired to open up the Bariga community for more commercial activities and make residents feel the impact of government, recalling that his administration since inception set out on a mission to make every community economically viable and livable.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the thinking behind these projects is inclusion; an inclusion where every resident of our State has a say, feels the impact of government in their lives and is given the opportunity to realise their dreams.

“When we assumed office four years ago, we set out on a mission to make every community economically livable. This has been the guiding principle behind spreading our different projects across the State,” he said.

Explaining how the jetty and Ilaje Road came about, Governor Ambode said the projects were basically in response to the security challenges of late 2015 as investigations then revealed that the cultists terrorizing the people and threatening peace of the State were getting funds from sand dredging activities in the area, adding that the projects were a clear example of urban regeneration inspired by creating solution to challenges.

The Governor said that the initial plan was to upgrade the roads in the community but that a proper assessment of the community revealed a greater need to improve the lives of the people and make Bariga a transport hub that would connect the community to other parts of the State through water transportation.

“The delivery of this road, the jetty and our new ferries signifies our commitment to the people of Lagos State to continuously provide the critical infrastructure that will improve their standard of living and also be an impetus to increase the socio-economic activities of this axis.

“The provision of comfortable, safe and reliable ferry services for the residents of Bariga and environs will no doubt bring about an improvement in journey times that would lead to greater productivity,” he said.

The Governor explained that the new Ilaje Road would serve as a very good access road to the jetty as well as opening up the community, while the Bariga Jetty would serve as a terminal where residents in the area can access ferry services and easily get to other jetties at Ikorodu, Marina, Falomo and Badore in Ajah, among others.

He said the jetty has a 150-car parking lot that would provide an avenue for people to park their cars comfortably and get on a ferry taking them to other parts of the State, adding that residents of the area can also make use of the ample space for social events.

Besides, the Governor said that of the five new ferries, four are passenger ferries that can accommodate between 40 to 60 passengers, while the fifth ferry - a Car Barge has the capacity to take between 16 and 20 cars at a time on water.

He said the projects were also in line with his administration’s policy to develop an efficient integrated transport model to decongest roads in the State by getting more people to utilise water transportation as a viable alternative.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Ade Akinsanya said aside the jetty, road and ferries, the State Government was also constructing 12 other roads within Ilaje and Bariga, just as he urged the people to take ownership of the projects.

On his part, Baale of Ilaje, High Chief Kayode Ajetiwa, who spoke on behalf of the community, thanked Governor Ambode, saying the people of the area would forever appreciate and remember him for transforming their neighborhood and making life comfortable for them through the projects.

“The good people of Ilaje-Bariga Community and Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Shomolu Local Government and all Lagosians will ever remember your Excellency (Governor Ambode) for the construction of this ultra-modern jetty at Ilaje-Bariga Community for the sole purpose of easing water transportation in Lagos.

“We salute your courage for providing the funds for this project within four years of your administration to which no other Governor has ever done. We are grateful that you have taken us to the next level,” Ajetiwa said.

I am wiser now, says Ambode

...Am More Of A Politician Than A Technocrat, Says Ambode

AgegePulse Magazine

Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, says he has been describing himself as techno-politician but having spent four years on the saddle, he is wiser.

Speaking with state house correspondents during what he referred to as a “thank you visit” to President Muhammadu Buhari for inaugurating some of projects in the state, Ambode said politicians learn everyday.

Asked to state what lesson he has learnt as a politician in Lagos and in a very unpredictable terrain as Nigeria, the governor said: “You see, every politician learns every day. The fact remains that I came in as a technocrat, so I use to call myself a techno-politician but I think I am wiser now. I am more of a politician than a technocrat.”

Since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, Ambode goes into history as the first Lagos governor not to serve two terms.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor-elect of Lagos, beat him to the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

APC leaders in the state, including Bola Tinubu, a former governor, supported Sanwo-Olu over Ambode.

On what he wants to be remembered for after bowing out of office in two weeks, the governor said: “Well, in another 16 days or so we will be leaving office but what is important is that I was able to have that opportunity to be elected as governor of Lagos State and to touch humanity in a way that I deem it fit.

“We did our best and most importantly the projects we did were people friendly and people central. I just think a lot more people have enjoyed the benefits and dividends of democracy than we actually met it. And that gives me joy that we were able to touch lives.

“Wherever you find yourself just make positive difference to people and Nigerians, that is the whole essence of service. I’m grateful that I had that opportunity.”

Ikeja Electric Explains How to Get Prepaid Metres via MAP

AgegePulse Magazine

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

As part of efforts to close the metering gap in the country, the federal government, through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), came up with the Meter Asset Providers (MAPs).

This platform gives third party companies licenced by government to provide metres to customers of electricity in the country and the scheme has since commenced on May 1, 2019.

One of the leading electricity distribution firms, Ikeja Electric, embraced the MAPs so as to serve its customers better and more efficiently.

The company, in its efforts to make the process of obtaining a prepaid metre hassle-free for its customers, has explained in simple terms how to go about it.

In its Frequently Ask Questions (FAQs) sector of its website, Ikeja Electric said, “In line with NERC regulations, customers are expected to pay for meters. The payment for the meter by the customer can either be upfront or in instalments.”

It further noted that a single-phase meter costs N38,850 and a three-phase meter costs N70,350. These are all inclusive of VAT.”

Ikeja Electric explained that, “Customers who cannot afford to pay for their meters upfront can pay in instalments. The instalment payment is by regulation referred to as the Monthly Metering Service Charge (MSC) and will continue until full amortization of the meter asset cost, as agreed with the MAPs.”

It stated that, “A meter is for one customer account only. However, customers with more than one account can have multiple meters.

Ikeja Electric also said for customers who made upfront payments for acquiring the metres, the meters will be provided and installed within 10 working days of the payment and for payments in instalments, customers will be metered in line with the MAPs installation schedule.

It further said after installation, the meter will be processed for setup and activation within two days and customers will be able to vend for energy using any of the IE payment channels.

On if customers will have to pay any additional charges for meter request, Ikeja Electric simply said, “No. The total amount payable is as stated for single and three phase meters respectively. However, where a customer location does not have the right service wiring, customers will be advised to purchase one. This can be obtained from any licensed electricity vendor.”

On how customers can pay for the MAP Meters, the firm said, “All payments for meters should be made into the authorised bank account to be advised by the MAP. No customer should pay cash for meters to any individual.”

Commenting on how to obtain the prepaid metres, Ikeja Electric advised customers to complete or update their details by visiting http://map.ikejaelectric.com/. It also said customers can send an email to CustomerCare@ikeJaelectric.com or call on any of 01-448-3900, 01-700-0250 and 0700-022-5543 for further information.

On if a customer decides not to get a meter, the company stressed that, “The regulation stipulates that all unmetered customers must be metered under the MAP scheme. Customers who refuse meters will be denied service by the distribution company,” adding that all meters will be procured and installed via MAPs.

Speaking on customers having unsettled post-paid bill before applying for a meter, the electricity firm advised that the bill be cleared by taking advantage of the various repayment options available during the KYC process.

“Outstanding balance can also be rolled over into the customer’s prepaid account and paid in instalments in line with IE’s instalment plans,” it said.

Answering question as to whether the Meter Service Charge (MSC) is the same as the Suspended Fixed Charge, the company said, “MSC is not the same as the Suspended Fixed Charge (CFC), noting that the MSC is the monthly repayment of the cost of the meter over a period of time.

On the event of customer’s relocation to another apartment after paying for the meters, Ikeja Electric said if the relocation is within its franchise area, the customer is expected to notify the DisCo and once notified, the company will transfer the service to the new location including the credit on the customer’s account.

“Customers are not allowed to remove their meters from their locations,” Ikeja Electric emphasised.

Go To Hell If You Can't Pay School Fees-Akeredolu

AgegePulse Magazine

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has said it was prepared to draw a battle line with the Ondo state government if the tuition fee of the four state-owned higher institution increase astronomically, are not reverse.

Mr. Bamidele Danielson-Akpan, the President of NANS, who stated this in Akure, the Ondo state capital said the students body will give governor Rotimi Akeredolu a 24 hours ultimatum to do the needful.
The four higher institutions are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA), Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OSUSTECH); Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo and Ondo State School of Nursing, Akure.
Bamidele, who berated the governor for his hash policies on education in the state, added that the burdens of paying higher fund as forced some students to drop out of school while other resorted into untowards jobs.
“Since the return of democracy in 1999, Ondo State Government made free education available for all from primary to secondary level.

“Adefarati came and initiated that policy, Agagu came to sustain it, Mimiko spent two terms he consolidated it, so Akeredolu should not only sustain it but improve on it.
“AAUA school fees was N63,000 initially but the state government increased it to N200,000 before it was later reduced to N180,000 with a promise to revise it to normal in the next session.
“Also OSUSTECH was N70,000 and increased to N200,000, School of Nursing, Akure and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic fees were increased too.
“WAEC, which used to be paid for by the state government, has been stopped without apology to anyone.
“Gov. Akeredolu should please help our students, who do not have hope to be educated as a matter of urgency, he should revise all the school fees of the state’s higher institutions to the initial fees.
“We are giving him 24 hours ultimatum to do that because we are not ready to fight him but to yield to the yearnings of the students and their parents.”
According to the NANS President, the students body has used all the available channels within its reach to ensure the Governor comply with their demands of reducung tuition at the four state owned institutions.
He also explained how Governor Akeredolu walked the students leaders out of his office in Akure, the state capial during a dialogue meeting with him on Monday.
“We have used all channels to address this matter but it has proven abortive. The governor has been showing carelessness and insensitivity.
“After meeting with the governor on the need to address the issue, he displayed the highest level of arrogance by telling us to go to hell, that his decision is final and that he is not going to reduce the school fees.
“He (the governor said) said who ever cannot pay should go to hell that schooling is not by force. And this is somebody who benefitted from free education.
“The governor threatened us that he is ready to order the security men to flush us out if we dare protest. Whereas peaceful protest is our right. It is the last resort in negotiations.
“I saw arrogance at its peak in Gov. Akeredolu when we met we him. It looks as if I was sitting with Adolf Hitler. It seems as if I was sitting in the presence of Pharaoh.
“Even when we met with President Buhari, he did not address us in such manner.
“But it is surprising that a governor whose power is limited within a state could put up that show of arrogance.
“Two years is too long to chase him, it is now upon us, parents, students, artisans and entire people of Ondo State to stop this.”
But reacting, Olarewaju Akeredolu, the National President of National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), said that NANS president was only in the state for “personal glorification” and not in the interest of the students.
“When he got to the meeting, he accused the governor of not supporting his ambition as NANS president, that governor Akeredolu should donate bus to him,” he said.

AgegePulseTv, AgegePulse Magazine

Chijioke Akuneto's fifth minute strike from the penalty spot against Rivers United has ended Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC's six-game winless run in one of Matchday 17 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) decided on Sunday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.

Prior to this game, the Olukoya Boys have played six league games in which they claimed just three points from two home matches against Enyimba and Lobi Stars and one away draw against Katsina United.

MFM FC started the game well with a commendable display and were awarded a spot kick following a bad challenge on Akuneto inside the visitors box after five minutes of play.

The attacker stepped forward and put the ball beyond Rivers goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande to record his fifth goal of the campaign.

Rivers United dominated the larger part of the proceedings, created numerous goal opportunities and won several free kicks in dangerous positions but failed to make all their attacking moves count in front of goal.

Akuneto disclosed in an interview with MFM FC Media few minutes after game that he was excited to score the goal that ended his team’s winless streaks and his fifth goal of the season.

“I am really excited to score my fifth goal this season and I am also happy that the goal ended our winless run in about six league games or there about.

“This victory I believe will turn things around for us going forward because we still have more important games to play,” he said with a smile on his face.

With the three points in the bag, MFM still maintain the third position on the NPFL Group A table with 27 points from 17 league outings, four points behind league leaders Rangers International.

AgegePulse Magazine

Prices of foodstuffs has come down in Taraba state, investigation has revealed.

Affected by drop in the price include  maize, rice, beans and millet which  came down by  between 20  and 25 percent

A 100kg bag of maize, which sold few months ago at N7500, is now N5000 while a 100kg if local rice, sold previously at N32,000, has come down to N27,000.

Similarly paddy rice, which was sold at N7000 per 100kg is now sold at N4000. Our finding further revealed that arrival of rainfall in most part of the state has forced farmers to  bring out their produce to the market resulting to the fall in the price of food items. It was also gathered that grains merchants who used to patronize Taraba rural markets no longer come in their numbers.

Many stores in Iware Garba_Chede, Mutumbiyu and other markets across  state are said to be stocked with grains without buyers. North East Trust gathered that bumper harvest witnessed by dry season farmers has contributed to crash in the price of local rice in the state.

Insecurity: Buhari has approved community policing — IG

AgegePulse Magazine

President Muhammed Buhari has approved the adoption of a community police system to combat growing security threats across Nigeria, the IG of Police has said.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, made the announcement Tuesday at the Forum of Northern Traditional Rulers in Kaduna.

The event deliberated on critical security issues, especially as they affect the north.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the Federal Government would announce a new policy on community policing for better service delivery.

Mr Osinbajo said it would pave the way for modern policing in the country.
He assured that the establishment of community policing would not take away the powers of the national police.
Speaking in Kaduna on Tuesday, the inspector general said the NPF has achieved major successes in addressing security and safety threats in recent times.

Mr Adamu said the success was appreciable since the launch of ‘Operation Puff Adder’.

“It is a citizen-centred and community policing approach which will lead to more sustainable successes in the management of internal safety and security threats,” he said.

Mr Adamu said the Community Policing Model envisaged for the country will involve the establishment and utilisation of the Special Constables.

The IGP said Special Constables Model is mirrored after the Police Community Support Officers Standard in the United Kingdom policing architecture.

He said it will be tailored to align with the existing traditional security structure in Northern Nigeria.

“The Special Constables will be drawn from members of the community to serve as voluntary community police officers under the coordination of the Nigeria Police Force.

“This new drive is in line with the expressed desire and directives of the President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” he said.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and other top government functionaries, said traditional rulers are strategic actors within the community policing architecture.

They said the traditional institutional structure present a unique framework which if properly engaged could enhance the attainment of community policing practices.

Protesters Shut Down Computer Village Over 'Backward' Plan To Install 'Iyaloja, Babaloja

There’s an existing constitution that there will be election every 4 years.
Mr. Ojikutu Adeniyi is the current President of Computer Village, he has called for election but few of the aggrieved Yoruba dudes don’t want election to be held to go back to the analog of ‘Iyaloja and Babaloja’ because the president would be in favor of an Igbo indigene.

What do the Iyaoloja and Babaloja have to offer? What value are they going to add to the hub? And what technological innovations are they bringing?" he asked. "The computer village is not like any other street market where pepper and other things are sold. It is an international technology hub and it should be treated as such."

JAMB to release 2019 UTME results from Monday

...To check Results through SMS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured candidates of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that results would be ready from April 29. The Board’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Bwari

Benjamin said that screening of the results would soon be over and the result released. “We are still screening but hopefully, anytime next week, the results will be ready,” he said.

Speaking also on the board’s readiness to screen results of UTME candidates from 2009 to 2018, Benjamin said this would begin after the release of the 2019 results. He said this was part of the board’s effort to address the issues of malpractice in the system.

The board had stated that it would only release the 2019 UTME results after undergoing thorough screening to identify and apprehend examination cheats. The process would identify those involved in multiple registration through biometric capturing and also address group registration by some elite schools, who end up mixing candidate’s data. The board said: “Normally, results are expected to be out within 24 to 48 hours as obtained in previous examinations held in 2017 and 2018.

“However, the board does not want this to be business as usual. “Hence the programmed delay, which is part of its deliberate effort to properly scrutinize, identify and address all forms of examination malpractice. “The board will continue to act decisively with regards to any irregularity discovered even after results are released.

“However, the board has made it a point of duty to screen all activities at all centres via CCTV recordings, to ensure that it does not release results of compromised examinations.” The board, while regretting all inconvenience caused in the process, reaffirmed its commitment to providing equal opportunity to all candidates in order to articulate their aspirations.

JAMB said that effective from when it would officially release the results, all candidates can simply send RESULT, via SMS, to 55019 using the same number that was used for registration. The result, it said, would be replied as an SMS shortly after.

This process, the board explained, was simplified to eliminate exploitation by business centres and cyber cafés who often take advantage of candidates. It also urged candidates to ignore all messages in circulation on how to check the results as they were all products of deceit.

The 2019 UTME was conducted from April 11 to April 18 and over 1.8 million candidates registered for it. (NAN)
