There was a new lease of life yesterday in Agege area of Lagos State on the path to get the best out of the teaming youths of Agege when management of the council and popular music act, Temitope Adekunle, aka Small Doctor sealed a partnership deal for an annual talent hunt programme in Agege.

In a statement issued by Mr. Rotimi Sulyman, the Special Adviser on Media to Agege Council executive chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, the deal for the concert, which had been on the card, was sealed on Thursday at the Council secretariat for the discovery and nurturing of talented artistes in the community.

Speaking on the the concert, tagged: “Agege to the World”, an initiative of OIT Dynasty Incorporation, Small Doctor’s record label,, the artiste, who grew up in Agege’s neighbourhood, stated that the objective of the event is to breed future stars through entertainment activities and to productively engage the youths of the area.

The Omo Iya Teacher crooner said the decision for the collaboration is to ensure that the programme has government’s support and gained wide acceptance.

While explaining that the concert has several segments including talent hunt for musicians, dancers and deejays, Small Doctor talked of his love for the community saying “Am an Agege ambassador and filled with love for the area. I always look forward to the opportunity to promote my hood to the point of composing a song for it, an anthem, in one of my songs.  .

“The concert will feature young talented dancers, musicians, and Deejays, all from Agege. In between it, i would have motivational talk for the youths in attendance during which i will share my grass to grace story with them,” the 21-year-old said.

According to the Chairman of the council, Egunjobi, who paid tribute to the commitment of Small Doctor to Agege, commended the singer for the initiative while enjoining other entertainment celebrities who have nexus with the community to emulate him.

“I must commend you for this initiative and opportunity given to the Council to partner with you on it. I must confess that we need more of programmes like this to take our restive youth population out of the streets and positively engage them.

“I say without fear of contradiction that Agege is the home of Music in Nigeria given the high number of artistes including icons that at one time or another lived in this community. From Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Kollington Ayinla, Ayinla Omowura, Shina Peter, Love Azeez, Fatai Olowoyo, Fancy Aiye-Alamu, to Dayo Kujore,” the council chief said.

In his own remark, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Abiola, asserted that the concert is in line with the youth empowerment and wealth creation programme of Egunjobi’s administration.

The inaugural edition of the concert is tentatively scheduled for sometime between late October and early November this year.
