Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State said it would establish an institute devoted to bread making and research on the staple food.

This was stated by the Executive Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, at the grand finale of Agege Bread Day, an initiative of the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (Agege Chapter).

The three-day event included a rally during which the organisers distributed breads to residents of the area.

At the closing ceremony on Thursday held at Maternity Hall in Area A & B office of the council, the LG boss, who was represented at the event by the leader of the legislative arm of the Council, Hon. Kola Anigbajumo, lauded the  bakers and caterers’ association for coming up with the event.

Egunjobi noted that Agege is known for breads in any part of the world where Nigerians are, saying, “Agege is reputable when it comes to bread making in any part of the world where you have people of Nigerian extraction. In fact all breads without labels on it are called Bread Agege.

“I commend you for this initiative, the celebration of bread, which our community is known for.  It is my prayer that this festival is sustained and becomes an event that attracts tourists to Agege in the nearest future.”

He added that the council planned to establish an institute for bread baking next year.

His word, “Our local government come next year will establish Agege Bread Institute where people will be trained to become bakers. Breads made in the institute will carry the label, Bread Agege, and will be sold to the public.”
