How I'Ve Impacted My Constituents, Agege In Recent Time- Hon. Dr. Wale Ahmed

Yomi Durojaye

...Extols President Tinubu Led Administration

The House of Representatives' Agege Constituency is represented by Dr. Wale Ahmed, a former lawmaker, two-time commissioner, and former secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State. He discussed his involvement in the National Assembly, the Tinubu administration, and other topics.

In the 2023 presidential election, Nigerians made informed choices and cast informed ballots, and I want to start by making that clear.

The past few years have undoubtedly been extremely difficult, demanding, and rewarding for the nation because Nigerians elected a seasoned politician who is a full-blooded democrat, a champion of democracy, and a fair-minded man of vision and inspiration. He is clearly well-suited to the role of providing direction and focus to this vastly diverse nation.

God had prepared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this moment. He is undoubtedly leading with a decent heart, possessing the necessary national perspective, and bringing the nation together by implementing a just and equitable administration that has everyone on board.

I can see demonstrable courage and boldness, a rare clarity of thought and wisdom, as he is mobilising every segment of the society for nation building. He has been decisive in taking certain steps and difficult decisions in the overall national interest, thereby laying a good, solid foundation for greater tomorrow and future prosperity.

President Bola Tinubu presides over a government of reforms.  His reforms and innovations fall within the framework of indepth socio-economic restructuring, which, fundamentally, comes with transcient pains, the types that will predictably herald a new lease of life for the generality of Nigerians, both now and in the future. For example, under his leadership, Nigeria’s revenue base has ballooned and strengthened exponentially, translating in the lower sub-units, that is states and local governments, now having much more funds to channel into their developmental priorities.

There is now a lot of fiscal discipline and financial loopholes are removed. I also salute his focus on grassroots governance as exemplified by the financial autonomy to the councils, which will foster development at the grassroots level.

On his constituency activities,  Dr. Wale spoke with confidence on his office has transformed the face of Agege Federal Constituency...

....I will like to put it this way. It is difficult to start counting or enumerating the way I have impacted on our people Agege Federal Constituency. I practically live with them. So, I am able to rise to the occasion and responde to their needs. To be specific, I will start with our educational programme.

Two days ago, we identified those young people who just gained admission into the university . No fewer than 50 of them were given scholarship. We will be encouraging and mentoring them.

Before that, we looked at our environment and discovered that not all of them would go to the university or Polytechnic. We trained 150 of young people in various vocations and during graduation, we gave them money to go and start business, to buy equipment. Recently, we did a medical outreach for three days. It was so successful,  so helpful. As a matter of fact, since then, they have been asking for more.

In Agege, we are known for our markets and Agege bread.  We have provided solar powered street lights to increase after hour business activities and security, and solar powered boreholes. We presented flours to Master Bakers Association in Agege in aid of their business. We also gave market men and women food items and financial empowerment.

The distribution of foodstuffs to all and sundry has been virtually an every month affair. I am at home virtually every weekend. I am always with my constituents. Other assistance, as the need arise, we do that regularly.

We must prioritize the supply of water in the upcoming year. I educate them of our beloved President Asiwaju Tinubu's enormous accomplishments. The average person in Agege is aware that the macroeconomic indicators that indicate the president's policies—such as the decline in inflation, the strengthening and stability of the naira, the increase in foreign reserves, and the decrease in fuel prices—will soon result in lower landing costs for meals at their table. In other words, there is hope for the future and my people in Agege have faith in this government.

By Yomi Durojaye

Orile Agege General Hospital (OAGH) has organized Y2024 Back-to-School Medical Outreach 2024/2025 academic session resumption for 2500 school children in Lagos
CEO/MD, Orile Agege General Hospital, Dr. Sola Pitan

The Medical Director/CEO of OAGH.  Dr. Sola Pitan disclosed this during the commencement of the week-long Back-To-school Medical Outreach held recently at the facility, stressing that the programme was initiated to meet the school-health needs of children within the Orile Agege community ahead of the school resumption. The initiative is the third edition and is themed: “Resume Healthy: Academic Excellence”, with a target of 2500 school children.

“The programme was designed to ensure a healthy life that enhances children’s learning between ages five and 15 during the school year. The children will go through pediatrics, evaluation, eye, ear, dental checks, nutrition/diabetes and social welfare services. The various screening will help detect potential health problems and improve the overall health of the children", he stated.

The programme, he said, started in 2022 and it has been increasing by the year with the number of children and partners as more people in the community now trust the government hospitals with their health care, as such they come along with their children.

The Medical Director added that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government recognised OAGH’s growth and designated the hospital as one of the government-owned facilities to start training medical house officers.

He said, “We have got accommodation for them; we are ready and waiting for the visit of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to come and accredit us. We thank the Governor for helping us to achieve that status. Our theatre used to be two but it’s now a four-suite theatre; we have also been able to expand the hospital services", Pitan said.

This, according to him, is a testament to the good works that Governor Sanwo-Olu and all the health care providers are doing. All the training, capacity development, and every other tool and support are instrumental to the hospital's achievements as well as the support of the community.

Dr. Pitan said OAGH is giving its best to the community to achieve the state government's desire to increase further access to healthcare delivery within and outside Orile Agege.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Hospital Service Commission (HSC), Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun lauded the hospital for championing the well-being of children in the state through its health initiative.

He said:  “What we have on ground is best described with ‘The fact speaks for itself’, I can only say that this is the way to go. Prevention is sometimes better than cure; health promotion is the way to go, and there is so much we can do in this space before people fall sick, they’ll toe the wellness line”.

In a statement released by TOSCO's publicity secretary, Adebola Kazeem, Olasunkanmi emphasized the need for youths to be patient with the current administration, led by President Tinubu, who he believes is committed to addressing the country's challenges.

 AgegePulse Magazine

- asks Sanwo-Olu to organise stakeholders' meeting

Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday held a plenary session calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take major steps to avert the planned nationwide protest in the State.

The lawmakers, in a 'Matter of Urgent Public Importance' brought by Majority Leader Noheem Adams, noted the devastation caused by the EndSARS protest of 2020 in Lagos and urged the governor to organise townhall meetings with major stakeholders to fashion out ways to calm the youth and those who plan to support proposed protest.

One of the meetings, according to the motion of the House, should be held between the governor and elected political leaders including senators, members of the House of Representatives and state lawmakers while a second meeting should be held with traditional rulers, religious leaders, heads of market, those in the transport sectors and related stakeholders.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said it was necessary for state governments to do the needful to calm frayed nerves and ensure protection of lives and property.

Dr. Obasa said Lagos was still grappling with the impact of the EndSARS protest just as he appealed to the youth to be patient with the government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that is making effort to see a better Nigeria that would benefit the citizens.

The Speaker noted that Kenya is currently in a terrible situation adding that the crises in Sudan and Syria started in the same manner.

He commended the commissioner of police in Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, for meeting with community heads over the planned protest.

Obasa called for an urgent meeting with all leaders, including religious, traditional and related organisations in the state for discussion that would help dissuade the youth from engaging in the protest.

Earlier in his motion, Hon. Adams (Eti-Osa 1) drew the attention of his colleagues to the planned protest.

"I want to plead with our people to shelve this protest," he said noting that President Tinubu had shown that he is ready to listen to the citizens, especially as he has raised the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

On his part, Hon. Kehinde Joseph expressed worry that the proposed protesters do not have leaders who can be discussed with.

He urged for patience stressing that whatever is happening in the country "affects us all."

Hon. Sa'ad Olumoh said President Tinubu understands the problem in Nigeria and was taking the right steps against the country's collapse.

He also urged Nigerians to start focusing on governors because federal allocations to states have grown under the President.

Other lawmakers who spoke during the debates urged parents to persuade their wards from joining the protest or allowing themselves to be used to commit crimes.

She also revealed that the adoption of staggered resumption for Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools was due to the presence of Y2020/2021 SS3 students currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) scheduled to end on the 6th of October, 2021, adding that another reason is that the schools cannot accommodate seven sets at once in the boarding system.

Adefisayo, therefore, appealed to parents to abide by the new development for a smooth academic session, just as she implored the students to be more diligent and devote more time to their studies.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory - An Erudite Intelligentsia At Glance | AgegePulse Magazine

By Nurudeen Ibrahim

I have always found it interesting to write about Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory just as it pleases me to write about his father Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory. When people ask me tell me about Sheikh Habeeb El-Ilory or who is Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory, it pleases me to quickly respond provided the one inquiring is ready to listen to the truth. Below I have written something concise about  this erudite and highly talented scholar of Islam.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory is a prominent personality and Islamic scholar in South-West, Nigeria.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory is a profound and highly informed scholar. He is talented in the field of scholarship and an erudite intelligentsia. He is the son of that giant of knowledge celebrated throughout West Africa, Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory. Just like his father, Sheikh Habeebullah is a very talented and highly informed scholar about both local as well as global Islamic issues. He is a celebrated member of the intelligentsia as mentioned earlier and his Ramadan Tafseer attracts thousands of listeners gathered at the Great Markaz of which no other Tafseer in South West Nigeria if not the whole of Nigeria attracts such a great number of listeners. Today his Tafseer has a very large number of viewers online because of the knowledge and information he shares.

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory is a scholar of contemporary Islamic Jurisprudence. He is vast in Tafseer of the Holy Qur'an, Arabic interpretation and history. He is very unique and a rare breed among the scholars of Nigeria today in terms of quality of knowledge and research. He is highly charitable, selfless and apolitical.

Sheikh Habeebullah is well known for his criticism on the Salafi ideologies as well as scrutiny on many issues. Due to his positions which may differ with other scholars on certain issues, some people have considered him as a controversial scholar while some other people refer to him as a Shi‘a Scholar or a Shi‘a sponsored scholar. At the same time, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory is also considered as a pro-Sufi scholar which is evident in many of his sayings. However, the same Sheikh has criticized the views and positions of the Shi‘a as well as corrupt Sufis in many of his lectures. Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory has been on the scholarship throne of his late father, Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory, since about 22 years now.

At Al-Azhar University Cairo

In 1986, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory embarked on a journey to the prestigious Al-Azhar University for a course for Imams and scholars. He was conferred with the title Fadeelat-ush-Sheikh.

Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory

Succession to Sheikh Adam After the death of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory on the 3rd of May, 1992, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory was unanimously appointed by the Muslim Leaders as the official successor (Khaleefa) of Sheikh Adam El-Ilory to take over the position and assume the roles and office of his father in the Muslim Communities across the world.5 The Emir of Ilorin was among the eminent personalities who pledged allegiance with Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory as the successor of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory in 1997. By way of this, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory became the official successor (Khalifa or Caliph) of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory and Imam of the Mosque of Sheikh Adam as well as the Mudir (Director) of Markaz. Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory continued the Ramadan Tafseer (Qur’an Exegesis) of Markaz as well as the Friday Sermon (khutbah). Some Contributions Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory introduced a lot of developments at Markaz which are still ongoing one of which is the Annual Cultural Week where scholars are invited for paper presentations on important issues facing the Muslim of Nigeria in particular and the Muslim world in general.

Literary Works of Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory like his father also contributed to literary works. He is not too known for authoring books aside from his two popular books. However, he is more known for writing articles and papers. Averagely in a year, he writes beteren 40 yo 50 papers a year upon which many researchers depend.

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory authored the book ‘At-Tasawwuf al-Islamiy wa Tatbeeqaatuhu fee Naijiriya- Islamic Sufism in Nigeria: An Objective Research on Sufi Practices Among Nigerian Sufis). He also authored the book titled: Ahmiyyat-ul-Lughatil ''Arabiyya wa Makaanatuha al-'Alamiyya- The Importance of Arabic Language and its Position in the World.

International Conferences

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory has participated in several conferences within and outside Nigeria. These contributed to his vast exposure and rational thinking.

Position on Extremism

Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory is very intolerant on extremism and fanaticism. His lectures are usually focussed on countering extremism and fanaticism. One of the reasons the extremists are bent on criticising him which is not unexpected.

Ideological Moderation

The position of Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory has always been the position of his father Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory which is promotion of Ideological Moderation called Al-Wasatiyya. Al-Wasatiyya or Ideological Moderation is aimed at eliminating ideological indoctrination and extremism incorporated into Islam which has led to unrest in many parts of the world as noticed among the Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria. This is because fanaticism leads to extremism and extremism results into terrorism if not controlled. For this reason, Sheikh Habeebullah El-Ilory has been given the title of THE DEFENDER OF ISLAM by the IRFAN CENTRE for Research and Human Development.

In 2010, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory was honoured by the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with the national title of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON).

SOME POSITIONS  OF  SHEIKH  HABEEBULLAH ADAM ABDULLAH ELILORY

Some  of the  positions  of Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah ElIlory which are also maintained by many more scholars across the world are  given below:

1. The  problem  of Moon Sighting  as  regards  the  commencement  and  termination of  Ramadan should be  solved by modern sciences  and technology  in addition to  astronomical  calculation.

2. The  use  of face  veil  (niqab) by women is  not  compulsory.

3. Good Music  is  permissible  in Islam.

We pray that Allah in His Infinite Mercy should continue to strengthen, protect and bless Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory and all those around him.

By Ayodele Ifasakin

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has reassured Agege residents of a peaceful and credible runoff election in Ward F of Agege Local Government Area.

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Philips

Speaking during a stakeholders’ forum for Ward F, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Philips, represented by the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bunmi Omosehinde, explained that the reason for the rerun in the ward was because there was no clear winner.

“You know we are just coming from an election, so everything is ready and the joy is that the runoff is just between the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Due to the fact that there was no clear winner of the councillorship election. People should come out to vote and know that their security is guaranteed.”

AgegePulse Magazine

By Ayodele Ifasakin

As the Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Local Government Election in Agege, I want to thank residents, Party Supporters and Well-wishers who upon the intimidation came out to vote and  yearn for greater Agege. I humbly appreciate you all for your supports; before and during the last Saturday Election.

Osolana

The Political crusade of building greater and new Agege has not ended but just began. We shall continue to be focused on our Agenda for all Agege residents.

Firstly, I want to urge all Agege residents, voters  and supporters to be calm over the declared  results by the Returning Officer of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

It is obvious that the results did not reflect the true position of the poll conducted across the Seven wards but our Party is currently understudying the results and shall disclose our position soon.

Meanwhile, we have noticed and documented all the nefarious activities that characterised Agege Local Government Election but i congratulate the announced winners and wish them success in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

As a peace-loving individual and Politician, I appeal to all my supporters to remain calm, peaceful and maintain law and order in all ramifications.

I sincerely salute the courage of the voters, party agents and supporters  in spite of the partisanship of some security operatives, intimidation, thuggery, harassment, rigging and snatching of ballot boxes. I appreciate you all.

Hon. Sola Osolana

Agege Chairmanship Candidate

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
