The Executive  Chairman of Agege Local Government, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, has reaffirmed the council’s commitment to implementing community-oriented initiatives aimed at driving grassroots development and addressing infrastructural deficits affecting residents across the local government area.

The chairman made this known during a stakeholders’ engagement with community representatives held at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, where discussions centred on finding lasting solutions to the perennial flooding affecting some parts of the council area.

Hon. Vinod Obasa noted that the local government was working in close collaboration with the Lagos State Government to address critical infrastructural challenges confronting communities within the LGA.

According to him, the synergy between the state and local government authorities is expected to facilitate effective drainage interventions and other developmental projects targeted at improving the living conditions of residents.

He said earlier, that temporary repairs have been carried out in the past, a lasting solution requires the comprehensive reconstruction of the drainage infrastructure. To this end, Agege Local Government is working closely with the Lagos State Government, which has concluded plans for the reconstruction of the drainage channel from Okekoto to Mangoro; an intervention designed to address the root causes of the flooding and erosion challenges affecting the area.

"In the meantime, palliative works have commenced to improve accessibility and ease movement for residents and road users while the permanent solution is being progressed.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment explained that the drainage construction project is community-based and would be handed over to the benefiting communities upon completion.

The representatives also unveiled the contractors handling the project and appealed to residents to embrace proper waste disposal practices, especially during the rainy season, to prevent blockage of drainage channels and recurring flooding.
