Three Policemen Arrested For Extorting LASU Student Of N153,000 | AgegePulse Magazine

Three policemen, who allegedly extorted the sum of N153,000 from a student of the Lagos State University, Hezekiah Oluwaponmile, at gunpoint have been arrested.

The policemen allegedly accosted the victim while he was on his way to Abeokuta from Ibadan and demanded N1m from him.

The incident happened on Saturday, April 24, 2021, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The victim alleged that the policemen, who were on stop-and-search duty on the expressway stopped his vehicle and ordered him to alight.

According to him, the cops forced him out of the vehicle and asked him what he was doing for a living.

Oluwaponmile said, “I told them that I was a student of LASU. They told me to unlock my phone, but I refused; they threatened to kill me if I did not cooperate with them. They brought out a shocker, so I obliged.

“They asked me how many bank accounts I had and how much was in each of them. I told them I had two accounts with GTB and Union Bank. So, I opened my phone due to the threat from them and upon going through it, I was asked to pay the sum of N1m, but I told them I did not have up to that amount.

“Later on, they asked me to open my bank app, where they saw a balance of N288,000 and told me that they would collect N250,000 out of it without telling me what I did wrong.

“I begged them that I needed the money for some things, but they insisted on collecting N150,000.

“Then they asked me to give them my Automated Teller Machine card; I denied having one, so they took me to a Paga (Point of Sale) shop, which they have a connection with.

“The Paga man collected a fee of N3,000 after negotiating from N5,000. On a final note, I did a transfer of N153,000.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said, “We heard about the issue and those policemen have been arrested.

“I don’t know where the girl lives but I even have once seen her with the person . They were both in good mood that day. i used to be surprised once I learnt about the incident. I gathered that the police found a bottle of sniper with the content.

“The man claimed it had been a suicide case which he awakened to ascertain her unconscious. the entire matter remains a mystery. Police should do thorough investigation thereon .”

The police spokesperson in Lagos, DSP Bala Elkana, said Nwogu’s corpse had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue for autopsy, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigation.

Alleged torture: Journalist seeks NUJ’s help to tackle LASPOTECH

Deji Lambo
A journalist, Folake Sokoya, has petitioned the Lagos council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists over alleged torture by security guards at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.

Sokoya, whose battle with the Lagos State’s owned institution had been in public space for a while, said she had been denied justice by appropriate government agencies.

She noted that the institution had manipulated the narrative in its favour, hence the need for the state NUJ to come to her aid.
The 40-year-old alleged that she and her son, Boluwatife Olowu, were manhandled by security guards at the school.

Olowu, a National Diploma student in the Hospitality Management Technology Department of the school, was reportedly seized by the guards for wearing earrings on the school’s premises.
He was said to have been brutalised before Sokoya showed up and challenged the guards for assaulting her son.

The freelance journalist said she was also beaten up, adding that she reported the case at the Sagamu Road Police Station.
Sokoya explained that her past experience from almost losing her son to kidnappers prompted her to visit the school when she was informed about the incident.

She said, “My son was abducted by some ritual killers on June 11, 2017; it took the grace of God to find him after four days. So, when he called to tell me that he had been arrested, I was scared. I quickly informed the police and the 174 battalion commandant before rushing out.

“I also called some of his classmates to know his whereabouts; one of them, Ajibola, told me that she saw him when the security guards were beating him up.

“I got back to the commandant and he told me to ask for the Chief Security Officer of the school. I saw my son seated on the floor when I got to the security unit. Immediately they knew I was there because of him, they refused to give me the CSO’s phone number, so I had to leave with my son. We were about three blocks away before my son identified two security officers and showed me the one who beat him up. I was surprised when they accosted him again and wanted to take him back to the unit.

“I challenged them as a mother and they pushed me out of the way. I held one of them. The other guard tried to remove my hand and in the process his clothes got torn. The guard became annoyed and punched me on the face and head butted me until I passed out.

“They dragged me into their office and injured me. I was admitted to a hospital for about three weeks. The police told me that they could not arrest them because it was a school matter.

“I want justice; I have spent a lot on medical bills. They stole my son’s gold chain; they also spoiled his phones.”

Ex-Deputy Gov's Daughter Found Dead In Her Boyfriend’s Room

It was reported on Sunday, the daughter of Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, a former deputy governor of Ondo State, was allegedly been found dead under the bed in her boyfriend’s room.

According to a source, the lady,  Adenike Oluboyo, was found dead in the room of her lover, Adeyemi Alao, in the Oke Aro area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Adenike was said to be a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

The source said the lady had been declared missing for the past six days before her lifeless body was found under a bed in the room of the boyfriend.

He said, “The young woman has been missing for some days, but no one knew that she was dead and her body was in her boyfriend’s house in Akure.

“It was Adeyemi’s brother that entered the room where the lifeless body of the lady was kept and saw it under the bed. Adeyemi later reported the matter at a police station.”

The source added that the boyfriend had been arrested by the state police command.

There are strong insinuations that the death of the former deputy governor’s daughter might be more than it seemed.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said some suspects had been arrested in connection with her death.

The state commissioner of police will address the media in the next 48 hours on the sad incident.

TGPS Dr Ayandele Lauds Asisat Oshoala Football Clinic

As the Football Clinic organised by Asisat Oshoala Foundation continues to attract commendation across the state, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Lagos Education District One, Agege, Dr. Yinka Ayandele has praised the initiative as an invaluable platform for female students with abundant football talent.

Dr Ayandele who is an advocate of talent discovery and tapping of creativity deposited in students alongside Western education, said the football clinic is an indication that the reigning Female African Footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala is planning for the future of the round leather game in Nigeria.

She stressed that apart from discovering new markswomen like herself, the Super Falcons goal poacher is also giving hope and reassurance to an average girl child that if their talent is effectively nurtured, they could make a respectable living from football. Hence, deter them from social vices in the society.

"We are grateful to Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala who through her Football Clinic, is looking into the future and building an empire of young girls who will keep flying the flag when she bows out of active service for the nation.

"Indeed, the Asisat Oshoala Foundation Football Clinic final held inside Agege Stadium yesterday, has given impetus to our female students who see Asisat as a worthy role model to achieve their soccer ambition." Dr Ayandele said.

Also, the award winning educationist used the medium to felicitate with the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Mrs Bolanle Ambode and the Chairman of Agege LGA, Mr Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi who were recognised for their unflinching supports towards grassroot sports development by the foundation.
