#EndSARS Protest: Egbeyemi Led Lagos Taskforce Team's A Role Model, Says LASPOTECSU President

AgegePulse Magazine

The students union president of Lagos State Polytechnic said the revolution that led to the disband of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) should not be used to drag in the functional Lagos taskforce team under the discipline leadership of CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi.

While addressing the press, Comr. Olamide Emmanuel made it known that the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Lagos Taskforce) has proven to be uncompromising in several occasions and are more active than the defunct SARS, with the chairman of the Lagos Taskforce well known for his resilience in fighting crimes and keeping the state properly structured for road users, as well as helping to keep cleanliness in every market in the state.

Lagos Taskforce was described by the president as an example of how Nigerian security outfit can function better. In his words, "though, there will be some few who will speak odd of Lagos taskforce but the students leaders in Lagos state can testify to the gallant approach of Lagos Taskforce team in combating road and market crimes. Even at that, the door of the chairman of the team has never been closed for Nigerian students. The chairman of the taskforce has proven to be a father to Nigerian students and have continuously open his door for us whenever our students or student leaders have any issue with his men."

Furthermore, the erstwhile chairman of NANS, Comr. Moses Samson Adewale said "CSP Egbeyemi is a worthy disciplinarian that have managed his team away from corrupt practices and Lagos Taskforce should not be dragged into the #EndSARS protest and public cry. The only set of people that will complain about Lagos Taskforce are indiscipline commercial bus drivers and conductors as they are always the ones that frequently go against the road laws in the state".

In the same vein, another Nigerian Student, System Joseph Philip has described the CPS Egbeyemi led team a functional, well behave agency.

According to him, "The Lagos State Taskforce has helped Lagosian in divers form. The disparity between them and the police or neighborhood is very clear, they are well equipped and can face any turbulence that want to cause havoc's to the people and the society".

The general superintendent of the Lagos State task force is a very vast and intelligent person that make sure everything work in a good modus vivendi and at the same time want to listen to others opinion.

Recall, during the COVID-19 pandemic, some group of gangsters called million Boys started some deviant attitude by entering different communities to extort people of their valuables. The DSP Olatunji Disu, the head of Rapid Response Sqaud(RRS) gave Egbeyemi a call and they swung into action to curtail their illegal activities.

This wonders of CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi sobriquet him  "White Lion", due to his clean approach to fighting corruption and instilling discipline to road commuters

How Lagos Police Intercepted Dismissed Soldier, Other Smuggling 1,200kg Indian Hemp

AgegePulse Magazine

By Idowu Abdullahi,
It was the end of the road for a dismissed soldier and his accomplice who must have been parading themselves as uniform men after operative of Lagos State Police Command apprehended two of them for being in possession of about 1,200kg of Indian hemp and hard drugs.

The suspects, a dismissed soldier, identified as Okoliko Andrew, and his partner, Idowu Adebayo, were intercepted with vehicles in which they were conveying loaded substances suspected to be Indian hemp before they were intercepted around Itowolo towards Ikorodu area of the state.

The two men who were said to have been initially stopped for plying Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor around Itowolo, an offense which contravenes the state traffic laws. The state had prohibited motorists from plying the BRT corridors.

However, the Guild gathered that upon further interrogation by the police operatives attached to the state’s Task Force team, the suspects who were parading themselves as uniformed men ran out of luck after it was discovered that they were smuggling substances.

An eyewitness disclosed that the suspects initially stopped by the Taskforce team for plying BRT corridor tried but that they could not bail themselves out of the trouble.

“But trouble started when they failed to properly identify themselves as they had earlier claimed during initial interrogation. So, acting with on spot intelligence, the task force team stopped them and upon further interrogation, they discovered they were carrying banned substances which led to their arrest,” he said.

While confirming the arrest, another source from the task force team, who does not want his name in print because he was not authorized to speak to newsmen, said the police seized 24 bags of 50kg of Indian hemp and also recovered other outlawed drugs from the suspects.

The source disclosed that the suspects who met their waterloo were intercepted driving two vehicles which were Toyota Corolla with registration number CE APP 903FR and a Peugeot 307 with registration CB 686 ABJ, and were said to be living at No. 1, Pedro Compound, Charley Boy, area of the state.

The source added that the arrested suspects claimed they were to deliver the bags of Indian hemp to someone at Sura Market at Lagos Island and that the owner of the banned substances promised to pay them N50,000 after delivering the substances.

However, efforts to reach the Chairman of Lagos Taskforce, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, and the agency’s Head of Public Affairs Unit, Adebayo Taofiq, proved abortive as repeated calls to their lines were no connecting.

Also, as at the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, was not available to confirm the arrests or respond to our correspondent’s inquiries.

Investigations have also revealed that they are responsible for series of high-profile armed robbery and kidnap operations in the region. They also attack, vandalize and steal components of critical national infrastructures such as electrical and telecommunications installations.

IGP disbands SARS satellite offices nationwide

AgegePulse

SARS Operatives

The inspector general of police Mohammed Adamu has ordered the disbandment of satellite offices of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across Nigeria.

Deputy inspector general of police in charge of Criminal Investigations Department Peter Ogunyonwo made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the family of late Remo Stars Sports Club player Tiamiyu Kazeem in Sagamu area of Ogun State.

“It is those (SARS) satellite offices that IG has ordered that should be disbanded immediately,” Ogunyonwo said.

“For example, there’s one in Ikorodu. From what we heard, there’s another one in Ijebu-Ode; there’s another one in Obada Oko from where officers came to cause this mayhem. So, all have been disbanded with immediate effect and the CPs have been ordered to take over such offices.”

In recent times, the Nigeria police have come under criticism by members of the public due to persistent extra-judicial killing, extortion, illegal arrest and harassment of citizens by officers attached to the SARS unit of the police.

On Saturday, February 22, SARS operatives arrested the late Kazeem who was allegedly accused of being an internet fraudster in Sagamu.

The arrest which led to his death has been attributed to different claims by the police and his teammate Sanni Abubakar who was with him during the arrest.

“The SARS officer stopped Tiyamiyu Kazeem, insisting that he was a Yahoo boy. He brought out his identity (ID) card to identify himself as a player of Remo Stars FC, but the officer insisted on taking him to the nearest police station in Sagamu,” Abubakar said.

He accused the police officer of pushing Kazeem out of a moving vehicle which led to his death.

But spokesman to Ogun State Police Command Abimbola Oyeyemi said the footballer was arrested for always wearing military apparels without being military personnel. He also refuted eyewitness’s claims about Kazeem’s death.

“While taking the deceased in a vehicle to Abeokuta, the vehicle they were travelling in developed a mechanical fault and while the officer was trying to rectify the fault, Tiamiyu jumped down from the vehicle to escape,” Oyeyemi said.

“In his bid to run across the road, an on coming vehicle which is on high speed knocked him down and he died on the spot.”

While the police is yet to conclude its investigation about Kazeem’s death, the IGP has assured Nigerians of ensuring justice prevails.
