Leave Lagos Now! DCP Alli Warns Criminals

AgegePulse Magazine

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of ‘B’ Department, (Operations), Lagos State Police Command, DCP Muhammed Ali, has read the riot acts to criminals, urging them to leave the state or risk the wrath of the Police.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that DCP Ali, who visibly talked tough at the weekend, said the new government in the State needed to enjoy crime free environment in order to be able to actualize their developmental mandate for Lagos and its dwellers.

Ali, popularly regarded by pundits in Lagos security circle as “the silent hero of Lagos security architecture”, noted that the State Police Command has decided to carry out massive fresh onslaught against criminal elements in the state to sustain peace and tranquility in order to engender development.
Ali, who acts for the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Muazu Zubairu at several instances, said there is no going back as the war against robbers, kidnappers, cultists, ritualists and fraudsters would be intensified and must be taken to the doors of the hoodlums.
The Deputy Lagos Police boss was also one of the brains behind the success of former Lagos CP, Imohimi Edgal, whose tenure recorded the lowest crime regime in the state’s history.

He said, “The only way to flush out the hoodlums is to be proactive and not reactive. I am the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, I have been a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in many places and Area Commands in Lagos, so I know the language criminals understand and I also know the terrain. I know their mode of operations. We need massive onslaught against these criminals. Their mindset now is that since there is a new government in place, there would be lapses in security superstructure. I want to warn that there are no lapses; rather we are becoming more formidable and proactive. It is better you leave the state or you repent. I am also warning touts to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and not to cause break down of law and order in the state.

“As the DCP in charge of operations, I have been leading my men to arrest notorious criminals in their hideouts and dens without even firing a shot in most cases. We know in and out of the state and we have credible informants. This is to warn criminals that we are not joking. We act on information and intelligence. We will arrive your criminal den and pick you like snails. We know the time to pick you so that no innocent life will be lost.

“I am advising parents to warn their children to be of good conduct and behaviour. You should not come to beg when your children are picked in bad spots at unholy hours between 1am and 4am. To be candid, what would a teenager or an adult be doing in criminal hideouts at unholy hours? We won’t listen to parents who come to beg for their children. I know why I am appealing Lagosians now. It is going to be tough for criminal elements in the state. He, who has ears, let him hear “.

DCP Ali, who commended the Lagos State Government for providing logistics to the Police through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, said the state remains number one in the country as the government was always interested in the security of residents by investing so much money on security.

“No state government has supported the Police and other sister agencies like the Lagos State Government. The government has spent lots of money in procuring vehicles, gun boats, and helicopters among others to ensure that Lagosians sleep with their two eyes closed.”

However, Ali said the Police Command still needed more logistics and manpower, adding that “Like Oliver Twist, we have to ask for more. We want more and better logistics”.
He warned police officers against extra judicial killings.

“To avoid extra judicial killings, I want police officers and men to be guided by Force Order, Section 237. All police officers should be guided by that section as it will tell a police officer whether it is justifiable to use fire arms at a moment or not.” Alli said.

Jimi Agbaje warns that traffic may cripple Lagos economy

Mr Jimi Agbaje, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State, on Wednesday called for urgent national and State interventions in the gridlock crisis currently rocking the state.
Agbaje told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on phone that unless urgent measures were immediately taken, the state may be prone to total traffic collapse.

He said that this would be detrimental to the health and resources of residents and the state.

NAN reports that the severe gridlock in Lagos State has worsened in many parts of the state despite efforts by the state government to control the situation.

Worried by the situation, the police in Lagos had on Friday announced it was putting in place a special operation to restore sanity on the roads.

It said the operation, codenamed ‘Operation Velvet’, would see the deployment of policeman and other traffic management agencies at designated areas in the state.

Traffic, however, remained crippling in parts of the state on Wednesday, leaving commuters and motorists groaning.

Agbaje, who said his office is on the Apapa axis of the state, lamented that it had become almost impossible to access due to the gridlock.

“This issue is not a political matter because everyone is affected including state businesses.

“If nothing is not done to find urgent solution, it may cripple the state in terms of movement and commercial activities.

“The Yuletide is here. There is influx of people in and out of Lagos that has multiplied the traffic flow.

“Very soon, the campaigns will kick off. It will be an understatement to say that once the rallies start, there will complete breakdown in traffic flow,” he said.

Agbaje said that his investigations revealed that contractors handling some of the road rehabilitation and constructions across the State were no longer giving their best, just because they felt the incumbent governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, will not be returning for a second term, which was not a right attitude.

“Governance is a continuum. Road maintainable and contract jobs should not be put on hold because an incumbent will not be returning.

“Apart from the heavy duty vehicles parked randomly and carelessly accross most major roads in the state, potholes and the lack of seriousness by traffic authorities in the state add to the torture on the roads,”he said.

Agbaje therefore advised that the state should as first step enforce its initial directives on the heavy duty vehicles by clearing them from bridges and major roads in the state, which had become a permanent parking lot for them.

“Most of the potholes are created by these vehicles. The federal and state ministries of works should immediately begin a short term patching of the potholes, but at night, so it will not further affect the situation.

“ The state should set up a committee to monitor the activities of traffic officials taking advantage of the situation to enrich themselves rather than control the traffic,” he further advised.

He pointed out that if these measures were not put in place soon, the situation may continue to worsen.

AMBODE HOSTS 11-YEAR-OLD HYPERREALIST ARTIST, PROMISES HIM EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday hosted an 11-year-old hyperrealist artist, Kareem Waris Olamilekan who drew a stunning portrait of French President, Emmanuel Macron in just two hours on the spot during the President’s visit to the new Afrika Shrine in Lagos.

Governor Ambode, who hosted the artist alongside his parents, teachers and instructor, promised to give him educational support, as well as help to nurture his talent to become a great artist later in life.

The Governor also pledged to support Waris’ instructor, Adeniyi Adewole Wasiu, who is said to have an Arts Academy, Ayowole Academy of Arts, where he trains young artists.

Briefing journalists after the Governor hosted the artist at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Steve Ayorinde said the development was basically to appreciate and encourage the young hyperrealist and as well to assure him of the readiness of the State Government to give him the needed support.

According to Ayorinde, “You would recall that Waris was one of the star attractions during President Macron’s visit to Afrika Shrine. Before painting the President and presenting the portrait to him, Waris had become a household name thanks to the special story done by a media house.

“So, the Governor has invited him and his parents to come and meet him and because the Governor is interested in his education and if you like the welfare of his parents, His Excellency has promised to assist just like he did to the Footprint of David boys who had a special performance at the State House during the Children’s Day.

“So, the Governor is interested in his school. We are happy that Waris is a product of a public school and you could see that the Principal of his school is here and she is happy. The Governor has also acknowledged the contribution of Waris’ mentor, Adewole who is here and because he also has a Arts Academy that inspired and produced Waris, His Excellency the Governor thinks that that Arts Academy should flourish and he is going to also support him, his career and what he is doing,” Ayorinde said.

The Commissioner added that since the works of the young artist became public knowledge, the State Government had taken special interest in his case, saying that the objective of government was to ensure good education and training for Waris to become a great artist later in life.

“The Ministry of education has been involved from day one since the story was reported but our Ministry (Tourism, Arts and Culture) would also be monitoring Waris. He is already in JSS1; he is talented as an artist but then that is not the only subject that he would be taking.

“We want him to be a successful well-rounded student first and foremost and of course as an artist. It is a long haul thing but first good education and let him continue as a good artist,” the Commissioner said.

Responding, Waris said he was extremely thrilled to meet with President Macron and Governor Ambode, saying the development was a life-changing moment for him.

“I am very happy and excited. I thank Governor Ambode for this opportunity. Now, I want to study my arts very well; I want to be a good artist, great artist in the world,” Waris said.

Also speaking, Waris’ parents, Mr and Mrs Mutiu Kareem said the feat attained by their son was a significant turning point in their lives, and thanked the State Government for the huge support they have so far received.

“I thank God for this. What has happened in my life through my son is something I never thought would happen to me but this is a miracle. I am so happy. I want to thank Governor Ambode for all he has done for us and also my son’s instructor who trained him, as well as his teachers and mother,” Kareem said.
