Breaking News: Obasanjo Warns FG: Listen to Youths' Demands or Face Dire Consequences |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has cautioned the Federal Government to heed the concerns of Nigerian youths, who have been protesting nationwide for better governance, economic opportunities, and an end to corruption. Obasanjo's warning came during a meeting with six members of the House of Representatives, led by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, at his Abeokuta residence.
The former President emphasized that failure to address the youths' demands could lead to dire consequences, given their frustration, desperation, anger, and unemployment. He stressed that Nigeria's progress depends on its ability to address the youths' demands and called for a change in mentality among those in governance.
The meeting also discussed a bill seeking a single six-year term for the presidency and rotation between the North and the South. Obasanjo expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of a single term, citing the need for a trustworthy system and independent electoral commission.
Hon. Ugochinyere and other lawmakers present at the meeting advocated for a single six-year term and rotational mechanism for governance between the North and the South.
Will the Federal Government heed Obasanjo's warning and address the youths' demands? Stay with Lagos Reporters for updates on this developing story.
