How Many Escaped Death as Truck Rammed into Vehicles in Epe, Lagos

Yomi Durojaye

Panic broke out on Thursday at the Berger Bridge T-Junction in Epe, Lagos State, when a truck reportedly suffered a brake failure and rammed into several vehicles, leaving many people injured.

The accident, which caused heavy traffic gridlock, involved a tricycle (keke napep) and four cars, all of which were severely damaged in the crash.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver shouted repeatedly that his brakes had failed before losing control of the vehicle.

“The driver kept shouting that his brake had failed. Before we knew it, the truck had already crashed into the tricycle and several cars. People were screaming and running everywhere,” recounted Mr. Ademola, who witnessed the incident.

Another commuter, Mrs. Kehinde, described the accident as horrifying.

“The tricycle was badly crushed, and several people were injured. Thank God no life was lost,” she said.

Emergency responders, including operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and local security personnel, arrived promptly at the scene to rescue victims and ease traffic congestion.

Authorities confirmed that while no lives were lost, many victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident, however, left commuters stranded for hours as traffic stretched across the Berger Bridge T-Junction axis.
