LASG ORGANISES DEVELOPMENT COMPOSITE TRAINING FOR STAFF

The Lagos State Women Development Centre, Agege, has organised a two-day Composite Training for staff as part of measures to improve the quality of service delivery across all levels.

The Director of the Centre, Mrs. Adeleye-Segun Olufunke explained that

the training stemmed from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to training and retraining public service workers.

Mrs. Adeleye-Segun noted that the programme seeks to ensure that all employees are equipped to better serve the community and remain up-to-date with the latest industry standards.

“We want everyone, from the cleaners to the instructors, to understand their roles and improve in their jobs,” she stated.

The Director said the training programme also reflects the ongoing efforts to adapt to current trends, especially in practical fields such as fashion design, hairdressing and barber, catering and photography among others.

In addition to staff development, Mrs. Adeleye-Segun, who spoke about the challenges faced by both students and staff, said economic constraints had affected student attendance, with many struggling to pay for the practical materials required for their courses despite receiving free tuition.

“We want to ensure that our students are not only learning but are also ready to market their products,” she said, highlighting that part of the training that includes online marketing skills to help graduates become self-reliant.

She also emphasised the centre’s commitment to gender inclusion, noting that it is one of the core missions of the centre to empower women with programmes that focus on political awareness and skill acquisition, aimed at increasing women’s participation in public life. “We are working towards making women self-employed, independent, and even employers of labour,” she explained.

On his part, the Facilitator and Chief Executive Officer of Icon Consult Limited, Mr. Femi Tinuoye, who trained participants on the subject titled: ''Organisation and Management: The 21st Century Role and Challenges of a Manager'', stated that emotional intelligence is a key leadership factor that managers must imbibe in today's evolving world.

He noted that at the end of the training, participants should be able to define and discuss organisation and management, discuss essential managerial skills, anticipate change, display emotional stability and build resilience against challenges.

At the end of the programme, participants of the Composite Training described it as a life-changing opportunity to grow personally and professionally. They said the training, aimed at empowering instructors, support staff and management staff with advanced skills and innovative teaching strategies, left a lasting impression on them.

They also expressed their commitment to apply the lessons from the training by continuing to pursue knowledge as well as share it with others.

This composite training initiative serves as a testament to the importance of equipping educators with the tools and mindset needed for continuous improvement, ensuring they remain at the forefront of their professions while empowering their students for success.
