What You Need To Know About Lagos APC Local Government Poll | AgegePulse Magazine

  


All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the guidelines for aspirants contesting in its party for Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in the state’s forthcoming election which will be held on Saturday, July 24.



The party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman and the Caretaker Committee Secretary, Alhaji Tunde Balogun and Lanre Ogunyemi respectively, who made this known in the guidelines jointly signed on Monday, said that it was the duty of the party to provide guidelines for its members seeking to contest the election.


They noted that the guidelines would without prejudice conform with the provisions of the party’s constitution, the 2010 Electoral Act (as amended), the Nigerian Constitution, the Lagos State Local Government (Administration) Law and Guidelines of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).


“The party’s constitution prescribes that member’s name in the Register of Members shall be the prima facie evidence of valid registration as a member.


“Hence, the first requirement is that any aspirant on the platform of the party shall comply with this provision.


“The aspirant shall be a Nigerian citizen, registered member of the party, pays the prescribed fees and must not be a member of any other political party.


“All aspirants must submit the evidence of membership of the party, submit a demonstrable evidence of active party support and provide a portfolio of loyalty to the party and evidence of non-involvement in any anti-party activity,” the party leaders said.


According to them, all aspirants must sign the party’s code of conduct and the only aspirant cleared by the screening committee shall be eligible to stand election at the party’s primaries.


They added that every aspirant shall be present for scrutiny of all certificates that he or she laid claims to, noting that the screening committee shall take into consideration full information on an aspirant’s background such as education, political experience, team spirit and reputation.


They said that there shall be a five-man screening appeal committee that will be responsible for hearing of all appeals arising from the screening committee’s report.


The duo said that a disqualified aspirant might seek review of the screening committee’s decision by appealing to the State Caretaker Committee through the state caretaker chairman.


There shall be a State Electoral Committee (SEC) for Chairmanship or Councillorship nomination and the LGA/LCDA Electoral Committee who must be persons of proven integrity, they added.


The state caretaker committee said that all accredited party members from the ward shall be entitled to vote in a direct primary system for aspirants of their choice.


They said that sales and submission of party forms would hold between May 4 and May 11 while the screening of aspirants would start from May 13 and end on May 21.


According to them, all appeals shall be heard from May 22 to May 26 while the primaries for Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants would hold on May 29.

CHAIRMANSHIP: 

MALE: N2 million + (50,000 admin fee)


FEMALE: N1 million +  (50,000 admin fee)


 COUNCILLORSHIP: 

MALE: N500,000 + (50,000 admin fee)


FEMALE: N250,000 +  (50,000 admin fee)


YOUTH UNDER 40 YEARS AND BELOW:                      50%  +  (50,000 admin fee)


The party stated further that there shall not be a separate fee for Vice-Chairman.


As part of its goal to carry everyone along, the form is free for physically challenged aspirants, but he/she shall pay an administrative fee of N50, 000 for Chairmanship and N5,000 for Councillorship aspirants respectively.

Lagos inaugurates new Community Development Advisory Council



... COMMENDS CDAs, CDCs for selfless service

Lagos State Governor, Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu has  extolled the zeal, passion and commitment of various Community Development Associations, CDAs and Community Development Committee, CDCs across the State, saying that the group had over the years exhibited high level of selfless service to the state government and their various communities.

Sanwo-Olu who gave the commendation through Lagos State Commissioner for Local,Government and Community Affairs Dr.Wale Ahmed at the inauguration of newly elected 23 members  of the State Executive, Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (LSCDAC)at Eko Hotels & Suites on Friday.



He said that the fact that members of the group organised themselves in such an orderly manner and took ownership of government projects in their various domains without expecting any financial reward from government in return shows patriotic disposition that should be commended.

 Addressing the newly sworn-in officers, Sanwo-Olu charged them to continue in the path of transparency, probity and accountability as already enshrined in the practice of the council over the years.

He implored the exco to ensure that the activities and self-help projects of the CDAs are in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the present administration in order to achieve the Governor's vision of a Greater Lagos.

He added that the role of Community Development Associations majorly is to complement government developmental activities at the grassroots. "As development partner, I enjoin you to focus in this direction and to achieve this, you must engage and communicate with every member of your community on how to complement Government's effort in our communities. He stated."

While thanking the outgoing executive for serving meritoriously and for contributing in no small measure to the peaceful coexistence across communities in the Centre of Excellence, the Governor reminded them of how the present administration relies on them for quality governance, stressing that they are very integral in delivering dividends of democracy to all residents of the State.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Taiwo Salaam in his welcome address appreciated CDA members and executive for the success recorded at the recently concluded election conducted.

He stated that the efforts of all CDAs and CDCs across the State has made the goal of bringing the government closer to the people possible, saying that Lagos today, boasts of over 3,900 vibrant CDAs.

Similarly, Cardinal Omolaja Odumbaku, a member of Governor’s Advisory Council and Life Patron, Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, LSCDAC, while giving his speech thanked Mr Governor for the honour he has given to CDAs in the state by recognising and including them in the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda of his administration.

He commended Dr. Wale Ahmed for using the experience he has garnered over the years in grassroots politics to contribute immensely to the development of Lagos state.

He also appealed to them to ensure that resources garnered at the CDAs are used meticulously for the purpose they are earmarked for, thus contributing to the State Government’s Agenda of making Lagos State a 21st century economy.

Odumbaku who is the life patron of LSCDAC advised members of the various groups to cooperate with their local government Chairmen, saying, that is how they can get the needed support for their various projects at the grassroots.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing executive, the Chairman of the LSCDAC, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeniyi Quadri thanked the State government for given them the opportunity to serve the state and for the unflinching support.

He pleaded with the state government to extend same support to the newly elected executives so that they can sustain the tempo of development at the grassroots and even surpass their own achievements.

The newly elected LSCDAC Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Amusat while giving his acceptance speech thanked the state government for the platform created for CDAs to relate with government, just as he appreciated the Ministry for conducting a free and fair election which brought about his emergence as the new Chairman of LSCDAC.

He assured the state government that the Council will heed to the advice of the state government and ensure his tenure exemplifies  probity, accountability and transparency.

The Director, Community Development Department, MLG&CA, Mrs Sherifah Ewumi-Dosumu thanked the state government for its commitment to development at the grassroots.

She assured that her department through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs under the leadership of the Commissioner, Dr Wale Ahmed, would work effectively to take Community Development Advisory Council in Lagos State to the next level of community development by giving continuous support and audience to all the CDAs.

Agege Legislative Arm Holds Y2018 Budget Consideration

The legislative Arm of Agege Local Government under the leadership of Hon. AKolawole Anigbajumo has embarked on Year 2018 Legislative Budget Retreat to dissect the content of the Budget presented to the house few months ago by the executive chairman of Agege, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi.

The appropriation document is tagged: "Budget of Sustainable Social, Economic and Infrastructural Development",.

On the Day 2 of the retreat, Chairman of Lagos State House Assembly Committee on Finance, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu was on ground to speak on the importance of " Budget & Budgeting".

As a United house, all the councilors representing the seven wards in Agege were fully engaged in the deliberation.

Also, former Council Leader Orile Agege LCDA, Hon. Fatai Ajibola who was a guest yesterday, shared from his wealth of his legislative experience while discussing how to ensure effective budget implementation is achieved.

Agege ends 3-day Budget Retreat


We must not allow our sacrifice to be in vain by not walking our talk - Egunjobi 




Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State has presented its 2018 budget estimates after the Executive Council Management Committee completed a three-day budget retreat held at VIP Chalet in Badagary area of the state.

At the end of the event,  the council chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi made it categorically clear to participants made up of the council management,  staff, Secretary(SLG), Councillors, Supervisors, and other political appointees  to put into practice their take-away from the retreat, adding that it was important that the council met its revenue expectation, and carried out its planned programmes and projects, a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the council boss, Rotimi Sulyman claimed.



"Talk is cheap, we must put our action where our mouth is, we have been here for three days deliberating on how to move our council forward, we must not allow our sacrifice to be in vain by not walking our talk as soon as we return to the office," Egunjobi who presided over the retreat alongside the Council's Head of Administration, HOA, Builder M. A.Abass said in one of his remarks at the twilight of the event.    



Abass brought his knowledge of coordinating such occasion to bear, and in one of his numerous contributions urged participants, particularly the civil servants to contribute maximally to the deliberation,  saying that retreat was not a walk in the park.



 "When you are at a retreat, you are expected to work extremely hard, think hard and make contributions that would be of benefit to the organisation.

"We have all heard the Chairman promising to implement all the planned projects and programmes captured in the 2018 budget   asat when due. So we must seize this moment by making informed suggestions and contribution," the HOA said.





Some of those who made quite an impression on the Council management as a result of their contributions were the Chairman, Council Revenue Committee, Hon. Rasheed Osanyinpeju, the SLG, Hon. Gbenga Abiola, the Supervisor for Works, Hon. Olusola Osolana , the outgoing auditor, Mr.  Monsuru Adelu and his legal counterpart, Lawyer Akin-Kunle Akin-Ajayi.

Among the facilitators who took the participants through various issues were the acting Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Finance Committee, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu, SA on Budget and Planning to Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Otunba Richard Akin Osungboye   and a Geography Information System expert, Mr. Olubiyi Bidemi.
