Lagos State Education District 1 Rewards Staff For Excellence Service



The Lagos State Ministry of Education District 1 on Wednesday recognized some of its staff for their outstanding performances in the discharge of their duties. The merit award ceremony which is the 13th edition in the District was held at the Indoor Hall of Agege Stadium with awardees carting away various prizes.



Speaking at the event tagged 'Technology: A Panacea for Educational Advancement and Excellence'  the Lagos State  House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Education, Hon. Yinka Ogundimu stated that the event was aimed at recognising excellence, adding that the importance of technology cannot be overemphasized as it is now a pre-requisite for several internal and external examinations.


He also reiterated the state government’s effort in making education a front burner as highlighted in the recently passed budget in which Education took a significant part, assuring that there will be improvements in facilities and investment in workforce through training and development of teachers going forward.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Barrister Titilayo Solarin emphasized the role of technology in educational advancement.


According to her 'The modern day knowledge of computer and its allied accessories have changed permanently our concepts of teaching especially for those who embraced it over the traditional way of teaching and learning.



Solarin also noted that the theme for this year's event was chosen to conform and align actions towards the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in which the first E stands for Education and Technology.

She also commended the government's effort in the area of using technology in educational advancement, one of such is the recently launched EkoExcel program in which teachers are being guided in the use of technology to take students out of the confines of the analogue world and also acquit themselves creditably in all aspects of human endeavours.

According to Mrs. Solarin, "Technology is no longer a substitute; it is now the main thing". While congratulating the Award winners, she stated that they have made a mark and set standards that others will race to catch up thus starting a race of healthy rivalry.


The event featured awards and prizes for teaching and non-teaching staffs with the principal of Vetland Senior Grammar, Mrs Abiola Elizabeth Taiwo going home with the prize for Best Principal Senior Category while Mrs Alamu Bolanle, the principal of Government Junior College Agege won the Junior category.

The award for Best Teacher, Senior Category went to Mr Odusanya Tolulope from Abibat Mogaji Millennium Senior Secondary School while the Junior category was won by Mr Adewale Moses from Lagos Model Junior College Meiran amongst other prizes and awards.


Dignitaries at the event included the Olu of Agege Oba Kamila Oyedeji Isiba, Mrs Adeyinka Oyemade former chairman of Lagos State Civil Service commission, The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District 3 Mrs Yinka Ayandele, representative of the Chairman LASUBEB, Hon. Serifat Abiodun Adedoyin Representative of the Permanent Secretary TESCOM amongst others.
