By Ayodele Ifasakin

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has reassured Agege residents of a peaceful and credible runoff election in Ward F of Agege Local Government Area.

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Philips

Speaking during a stakeholders’ forum for Ward F, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Philips, represented by the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bunmi Omosehinde, explained that the reason for the rerun in the ward was because there was no clear winner.

“You know we are just coming from an election, so everything is ready and the joy is that the runoff is just between the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Due to the fact that there was no clear winner of the councillorship election. People should come out to vote and know that their security is guaranteed.”

Olasehinde urged both candidates to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, assuring the commission of a peaceful election come Saturday.

Responding, the PDP candidate for Ward F, Agege LG, Mr. Sakiru Akinwande said that he was on ground in all the 43 polling units to win the election.

Akinwande advised the commission to take the matter of security very seriously to prevent loss of lives.

“I will only beg LASIEC, on behalf of the electorate, to please make sure they secure the lives of the electorate, the electoral officers and the community.

Lagos LG Election: One-On-One With LASIEC Boss, Plans To Use Card Readers, To Work with INEC

By Ayodele Ifasakin

...Clears Air on Major Issues About The Election

LASIEC  Boss, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd.)

The Chairman Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Hon Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd.), need little or no introduction, on the 29th June 2016 the former High Court Judge was sworn in as the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and in May 2017 she was elected as a member of the FIFA ETHICS COMMITTEE (ADJUDICTORY CHAMBER). The Member Board of Trustees Association of Multi-Door Courthouses of Nigeria and Member of the Board of Directors of Lagos Court of Arbitration obliged the Editor/Publisher Lagos Panorama ‘Tayo Aderinola an incisive interview on the forthcoming Lagos Local Government and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) elections for the Chairmanship and councillorship candidates scheduled by the state electoral commission for 24th July, 2021.

Please do enjoy an excerpt from the exclusive incisive interview on all you need to know about the coming Lagos Council Polls:

LAGOS PANORAMA: Considering the fact that in all the 36 states of the federation, the ruling parties always record hundred percent victory in every local government elections, hence, causing voter apathy, what are you doing to ensure the trust of voters and massive turnout of Lagosians in the forthcoming July 24th Lagos Council Elections?

Hon Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd.): First of all, they don’t record massive hundred percent victory in all the Local Governments and LCDAs, that’s not true. It’s true however that last elections they won all the chairmanship seats, but the councillorship seats were won by other parties too, PDP, Accord, Labour Party and a few parties

This time around, we are doing our best to reach out to the electorates, to sensitize them with the fact that election would hold on the 24th of July.

However, we were going to start work in earnest August last year, but COVID came and there was a lockdown, most of the civil servants could not come work, immediately after COVID, when that one was subsiding EndSARS came, last year we just couldn’t get anything done. This year is the election year, we’re trying and we have started meetings with all the relevant government organs that can assist, very soon you’ll see a lot of activities toward that.

Is there any plan to postpone the Lagos Council Election, because it was reported in some social media platforms over the weekend?

No, not to the best of my knowledge, I know nothing about it.

What’s your take on the Lagos State House of Assembly’s amendment to LASIEC law, empowering the governor to extend commission’s tenure?

Yes, it became very necessary in the sense that, actually, today mark the fifth year of our tenure, ideally it should be the end of the tenure, but since elections are eminent and we are conducting the elections, it became mandatory that there should be no crack in our tenure, so to make it seamless, not to leave room for any technicality, so the amendment is well taken.

Recently the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tope Ojo, issued a press release that debunked a story published in the Punch Newspapers with the headline “LASIEC LISTS LOSERS OF APC LG PRIMARY AS WINNERS” on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, alleging that some winners of the Local Government Chairmen and Councillorship Primaries were surreptitiously replaced in the lists published by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). Can you please elucidate on this?

That allegation against us was so unfair, and so untrue and it goes to the integrity of this commission, we don’t choose candidate for the political parties. In fact, if we should even dare to interfere in that process, we have lost all self-respect, all integrity and all ability to even hold positions we hold here. All we do is to receive the list of the parties after the primaries, which we just observe and we paste the lists as we see it. It is not for us to touch the lists. It will be most incompetent of us to even tamper with any list or anybody’s name.  it’s a very unfair accusation and I expected PUNCH to at least phone us here or send a reporter here like they normally do, to find out whether it’s true before they published it. If you go through the LASIEC laws you’ll see, our duty is there, our duty doesn’t include picking or choosing candidates for parties, the parties are supreme, they choose their candidates. Even the court cannot interfere in the running of the parties. The Supreme Court had said it many times, it’s an intraparty affair, keep out of it. They have their constitution, they’ve their election guidelines, they’ve the whole machinery to settle every dispute that have thrown up from the primaries, so it’s very unfair for PUNCH and that’s why a very strong worded press statement was issued by us. I have not heard anything since then. I am expecting an apology from PUNCH.

That brings me to my next question, recently the Chairman Eti-Osa East Hon Olufunmi Olatunji unfortunately passed on, after winning the All-Progressives Congress (APC) primary against his only contender Azeez Ismail, what’s the expectation required to replace the party’s candidate?

The party will take care of that, they’ll probably look into their constitution and the guidelines to produce another candidate to replace him, it’s very unfortunate, we pray for the peaceful reposed of his soul. It’s a party matter, we can’t interfere. They probably have the party machinery to take care of that.

Like I said it’s a party matter, I wouldn’t even want to phantom how they will handle it, the party is supreme when it comes to choosing candidate and they’ll do what they feel is necessary.

On a final note, is LASIEC planning to make use the card reader in the forthcoming Lagos Council election?

Yes, we are using card reader everywhere, we’re working with INEC, in fact my officers are going to meet with INEC this afternoon.

Wow! This will surely make the headline as it will give the election credibility.

Please in one minute, use this medium to send words of encouragement to Lagosians as we look forth to the 24th July Lagos Council Elections?

Please come out and vote, your vote is important, your vote is your right, you have no right to complain about the leadership if you don’t participate in the leadership of your choice. It is important therefore for all members of the electorate to come out on the 24th of July 2021 and vote for candidate of your choice. God bless you as you come.

Thank you so much Ma’am, it’s really a great honour for having you on Facing Facts, a Lagos Panorama incisive interview segment.

How Egunjobi Unprecedented Achievements, Experience May Earned Him Second Term | AgegePulse Magazine

The significance of Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi becoming the 16th Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area on a day (25th July, 2017) which coincided with his birthday has been proven to not just be a mere coincidence but a day Agege people will continue to appreciate they followed their instincts at the poll.

Egunjobi’s maverick performance in office is a testimony. The information garnered from several sources in Agege community was that Egunjobi's background was custom-built for serving people in need, and he has been a philanthropist long before he came into office, prompting a gushing number of the Agege populace describing him as the "Father Theresa" of Agege.

His first term is like a full moon, it illuminated the nooks and crannies of Agege communities with sincere testimonies from the old and young recounting Egunjobi’s direct and indirect positive impacts on them.

It is safe to say there is no excellence without skirmishes of glitches here and there, Engunjobi is not an exception with dots of wrong decision makings, what no one can deny is the fact that Agege had never had it glooming like this before. Whether through concerted efforts at infrastructural development, tailored social welfare, accessible governance or political influence at state level, the Isale Oja born leader has proven to be round peg in a round hole since 2017 when the All Progressives Congress he was serving in the capacity of party Secretary prior to election, decided to make its flag bearer.

His position as scribe of the party, showed he’s grounded and well ingrained into the developmental plans of the party through physical and social capacity building. His experience in human and resources management became immediately evidenced after election through his open-door leadership style and tailored welfare designed for his people. It becomes commonsense that the electorates will not abandon a man with such quantum of experience for a greenhorn.

In separate discussions with several members of Agege communities, even his greatest critics attested that Egunjobi's administration is changing the face of Agege but more need to be done. His giant strides in all spheres, particularly infrastructure, human capital and alleviation of poverty earned him the sobriquet, “Game Changer”.

One of his promises in 2017 is that apart from usual projects here and there, his intention is to remodel the outlook of the LG and he has fulfilled that through a complete facelift of the Council's Secretariat including the Legislative building and the Marriage Registry. Erection of statue of bread, a staple food that’s synonymous with the community’s nomenclature, and construction of a hut, symbolizing a community alongside various forms of activities such as captivating wall paintings which have given the erstwhile known suburb a different modern outlook.

In his words, he said; "I’m genuinely motivated by the desire to help people. Providing financial and emotional supports to indigent people is one thing I love doing, and cannot lose my desires now that I hold power in trust for the same people."

Under his watch, the council area has become a benchmark for others in several aspects. Egunjobi has earned many firsts within three years

These include:
* Education:
The provision of four 30-seater coaster buses for pupils of public primary and secondary schools in the community to convey them to and fro school, free of charge.
* Construction and rehabilitation of Public Primary Schools
* Distribution of uniforms, table and benches, customized writing materials and bags to pupils of the twenty-six primary schools in the area.
* 15 Roads delivered and still counting
* N100k Cash Gift To Over 750 Residents
* On health:
* Construction of Health Centres
* Construction of Fitness Centres
* Two ambulance buses and an Emergency Point on Capitol Road
Special health support to members of the community. These include;
* Financial support to an eye cancer patient
* Support for a woman with renal cell carcinoma for surgical Operation.
* Support to a man with acute abdomen for emergency surgery
* Support for a man with huge inguinoscrotal hernia and Prostate cancer
* Support for Shakirat's baby for Hirschsprungs Surgery.
* Financial Support to purchase artificial limb for a man
Others include:
* Construction of eleven boreholes across all the seven wards with generators to power them
* Over 325 Youths Enrolled for JAMB
* Building of a world-class legislative building to improve legislation in the area
* Provision of 150KVA, 100KVA and 50KVA Generators to power a council secretariat and the legislative complex
* ongoing Construction of an Event Centre for community use
* ongoing Construction of Modern Market and Museum
And many more.

Speaking recently on his achievements, Egunjobi stated that his administration has created a conducive working environment in the council by renovating the secretariat, and the legislative building. “Our legislative Building is arguably the Best Legislative Chamber in the State if not in the country.”
"In human capital development, which is key to economic growth, and excellence service delivery, we have empowered a large number of people most especially youths in the community, for self-employment through technical, vocational education and training. Five hundred and fifty men and women were trained in five different skills and vocation out of which the best four in each unit were given start-up capital to enable them forge ahead in their respective vocations. Also, another set of women, forty in number, were empowered with N100,000.00 (One hundred thousand naira) each to support their various businesses.
"Agege Local Government has made giant strides both in the regular primary school and Adult literacy. Agege emerged first in Adult literacy quiz where one of our teachers was adjudged the best in Lagos State Adult literacy programme. Not too long ago, we provided primary school pupils with 26,000 free exercise books in all the 26 primary schools in Agege. Personally, I have given scholarship to a brilliant pupil from an indigent parent.

"Also, not a few physically challenged individuals in our community receive monthly stipend from the council. In a move to increase our internally generated revenue by widening the tax net with the view to having the financial muscle to undertake our responsibility as a responsible government. Recently, we bought five vehicles for the Revenue Committee of the council to aid their activities.” Egunjobi stated.

Kamal Oyeniyi Oyedunle: A Prudent David in the Midst of Goliaths | AgegePulse Magazine

As many other Chairmanship aspirants fans, supporters and admirers might have learnt, it's in view that Kamal campaign organization  has been one of the least funded team.
Kamal Oyeniyi Oyedunle

Report says, six chairmanship aspirants in Agege LG Agege have already obtained their party nomination forms.

Kamal Oyeniyi Oyedunle However, take pride in his passion, and can stand tall as the candidate with the richest and most realistic manifesto.

According to him, "I cannot claim to know the bank balance of my rivals within and outside our great party, the APC, but it is apparent that my campaign has demonstrated the lowest financial might. My team and I only managed to painstakingly raise the N2,000, 000.00 ( two million naira) fee for a nomination form".

"This is no surprise. I happen not to be from a very privileged background. I do not boast the thickest of connections; no, not at all, Oyeniyi

"However, I take pride in my passion, and I can stand tall as the candidate with the richest and most realistic manifesto.

"I may not have a lot of money, but my team and I have demonstrated a lot of management acumen. We have come this far by the sheer power of determination – and also by adroit, meticulous oversight of resources. We have paid all party dues, including the amount  referenced above, and we have engaged competent hands for various departments of the campaign. We are also involved in grassroots mobilization, to mention but a few. Even I am sometimes humbly amazed to see the extent of work we have done and are doing.

"This is a shadow of things to come.. It is settled in my mind – and all the team agrees – that if we have achieved this much with our meagre resources, then we can and will achieve even much more with the considerable resources that we will be entrusted with as the caretakers of Agege Local Government Council.  As the popular Nigerian Pidgin expression goes “Follow who sabi road.”

America Decides: Why Joe Biden Will Win US Election By Jumu’ah Abiodun | AgegePulse Magazine

As the whole world is looking forward to the much-awaited United States election slated for Tuesday, November 3, 2020, there are lots of political intrigues to the poll. This is the 59th quadrennial presidential election of the country.

Major issues that shape the election include Climate Change, COVID-19 pandemic, the death of George Floyd which gave birth to the Black Lives Matter protests across the world and the death of other African-Americans, pushing for the repeal of Obama Care, Economy, Faceoff with China among other issues.

COVID-19:

Presently in the United States, over 9 million cases were confirmed and 231, 000 deaths recorded. It was reported that President Trump ignored experts advice and undermined the pandemic.

George Floyd's Death:

The Majority of Americans ranging from whites and black believe the President didn't handle the killings of Black Americans with care.

Obama Care:

President Trump got it wrong when he started pushing for the repeal of Obama Care which millions of Americans are benefiting from.

Climate Change:

President Trump doesn't seem to show enough concern about Climate Change.

It's worth noting that the US election is not about the total number of votes cast or states won but satisfying the 270 or above Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.

If no candidate receives the minimum 270 electoral votes needed to win the election, the United States House of Representatives will select the president from the three candidates who received the most electoral votes, and the United States Senate will select the vice president from the candidates who received the two highest totals. The election will occur simultaneously alongside elections for the House of Representatives, Senate, and various state and local-level elections.

In 2016, President Trump won the Electoral College with 304 votes compared to 227 votes for former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Though, Clinton won by 65,853,625 (48.0%) to Trump’s 62,985,106 (45.9%) of popular votes.

With my holistic view of how the campaigns across the country have taken shape, you would agree with me that typical Americans prefer Republican candidate, President Donald Trump while the Latino, African-American, Indian-American, and the Asian-American voters queue behind the former Vice President and Democratic candidate, Joe Biden.

While doing my state by state analysis that might give Joe Biden the victory prompted my explanation in assessing the states in alphabetical order.

The Republican party is expected to win in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi,  Missouri, Montana  Nebraska, (Statewide), North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming

The Democratic party is expected to win convincingly in  Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.

California is the home state of Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. So, Democrats are expected to win with about 60-65% while Republican struggle with 30-32% votes.

Delaware, the home state of Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden. The democratic party is expected to garner about 55-60% while Republican struggle 35-40% votes

Florida is the home state of President Trump, the state and Iowa are expected to be a tight race for both major political parties. Democratic  Party also is expected to win with a slim margin of 2-5% above Republican in Michigan.

In Indiana, the Republican Vice-President candidate, Mike Pence state, his party is expected to win with about 55-60% to Democratic 30-35% votes.

In Minnesota, the election in the state will be determined by the aftermath of George Floyd’s death which gave birth to the Black Lives Matter movement, Democratic party expected to garner 46-52% votes.

For record purposes no Republican has won the White House in nearly a century without winning Florida, and for Trump to win he needs the Sunshine State and its 29 electoral votes too.

In light of my above analysis, President Joe Biden is expected to win the Tuesday election convincingly.

If Biden wins the election, his victory then becomes historical. He would become the oldest person to serve as president of the United States at 78-year-old on the day of his inauguration and the first candidate to defeat an incumbent president in 28 years since Democrat Bill Clinton defeated Republican George Walker Bush in 1992.

His running mate, Kamala Harris would also become the first woman to serve as vice-president of the United States.

It's worthy of noting that this is the first election in the history of the United States in which both major parties candidates are over 70 years of age.

INEC Declares APC’s David Lyon Winner Of Bayelsa Governorship Election

AgegePulse Magazine

Akinola Ajibola

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr David Lyon, has won the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Faraday Orunmuwese, announced this on Monday morning.

Professor Orunmuwese returned Lyon as the winner of the keenly contested election after scoring the highest number of votes in the poll.

The APC candidate polled a total of 352,552 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Duoye Diri, who scored 143,172 votes.

Residents of Bayelsa had taken to various polling units in their respective wards to cast their ballots in a bid to elect a new governor to succeed Mr Seriake Dickson who is about to complete his second term as governor of the state.

Governor Dickson had supported Mr Diri to succeed him in his bid to ensure the PDP continues to rule in Bayelsa, following the exit of the state’s former governor and present Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, from office in 2012.

He was, however, unable to achieve this as Diri suffered defeat to his APC rival with a difference of over 180,000 votes.

BREAKING: Tribunal Declares Ademola Adeleke Winner Of Osun Governorship Election

AgegePulse Magazine

The Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the poll.

The Tribunal made the declaration on Friday after dismissing a preliminary objection against the petition of the PDP and Senator Adeleke, challenging the September 2018 governorship election in the state.

The preliminary objection was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the election, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The three defendants claimed that the petition of the PDP and its candidate was incompetent and the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to hear it.

Delivering a ruling on the preliminary objection, Justice Obiora Obi who is a member of the three-man Tribunal held that the petition was competent.

He also stated that the Tribunal has the jurisdiction to hear and determine it.

The judge held that there was merit in the appeal filed by the PDP and Senator Adeleke, adding that the declaration and return of Governor Oyetola by INEC was null and void.

He, thereafter, declared Senator Adeleke, who represents Osun West district in the National Assembly, as the winner of the election and duly elected governor of the state.

The tribunal also held that the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Oyetola be withdrawn and that a fresh one should be issued to Senator Adeleke of the PDP, having fulfilled the conditions of the law.

It said the petitioner scored the lawful majority votes at the election while the rerun held in the seven cancelled units were null and void and of no electoral effect.

The PDP and Senator Adeleke had approached the Tribunal to challenge the declaration of Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC as the winner of the September 22, 2018, election by the electoral body.

After entertaining final arguments and adoption of written addresses by lawyers to the parties involved on March 7, the Tribunal announced that it would reserve judgment on the matter.

The Tribunal, which was earlier sitting in Osun, was relocated from the High Court of Justice Complex, Osogbo to Abuja in November 2018.

We’ll shock APC, resist violence, voter suppression — Agbaje

AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jimi Agabje, has challenged the ruling All Progressives Congress to be prepared for resistance in the event of violence in the March 9 governorship election.

Agbaje, in a series of videos posted on his verified Twitter account on Friday, decried the violence reported at several polling units across the state during the presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday.

He said he had visited some areas affected by voter suppression and violence, adding that it was understandable why some Lagosians were disappointed, angry or afraid.

He said, “Undoubtedly, what played out last weekend was a clear violation of the social contract between the government and its citizens. Every Nigerian has a fundamental right to life, civil liberties and right to vote among other things.

“So, when you have a situation where thousands of people are put in harm’s way just because they choose to exercise this right while the government turns a blind eye, it has broken that contract.

"Last week, the oppression was at the polling station. This week, businesses were threatened. Tomorrow, God forbid, it could extend to our homes. The only way for us to stop this tyranny is to vote out the tyrants."

Agbaje commended Lagosians who, according to him, took the time and effort and made sacrifices to ensure that their votes counted, adding that sitting the coming election out was not an option.

“Let Lagosians have their say in peace. To everyone that has a stake in the commonwealth in the Lagos, irrespective of your tribe, political affiliation or religion, I say rise up. Rise up for Lagos. Use your vote. It’s your voice; it’s your right. See you at the polls.”

Breaking: Buhari Re-Elected President For Next Four Years

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, has been declared winner of the Presidential election held on February 23, 2019.

Buhari, who is the incumbent President, defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to emerge winner in the keenly contested poll.

Announcing the final results of the election on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said President Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 to defeat his closest rival and the PDP candidate, Atiku, who polled 11,262,978.

From start, Buhari proved to be the man to beat, leading all other candidates and ending with a wide margin of almost four million votes ahead of Atiku, and drawing his largest block of votes from the core Northern states.

The 76-year-old Buhari won in a total of 19 states, scoring the statutory 25 per cent of total votes cast in those states, while his main challenger, Atiku, won in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The announcement of Buhari as winner brings to an end six days of an electoral process that began effectively after a week of postponement, prompted by logistical challenges in the distribution of electoral materials, according to INEC.

The shift in the date of the Presidential and National Assembly elections to February 23 from February 16 had triggered outrage across the country, heightening tension among the citizens and the political parties, with the ruling APC and main opposition PDP accusing each other of colluding with INEC to influence the outcome of the elections.

It also generated concern among local and international observer missions, casting doubt about the credibility of the process.

The fears were soon dispelled as INEC stepped up its communication with stakeholders, offering the assurance that it was set to deliver a free, fair and credible election.

Buhari’s victory comes amid protest by the main opposition party against what it describes as lack of level playing field in the run-up to the presidential election, as well as observed lapses in the electoral process, including alleged over-voting, vote buying and other forms of electoral manipulations.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, had declared that the results as being announced by INEC in Abuja were unacceptable by the party.

The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to halt the collation and announcement of results, insisting that the outcomes were not valid.

Also echoing the PDP National Chairman in a statement on Tuesday, the Deputy Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Tanimu Turaki, said, “We have evidence from the smart card reader accreditation data that what is being announced by INEC has been seriously tampered with and manipulated.”

He stated further, “The PDP predicates its demand on available evidence to the effect that data from the card readers are being reconfigured to suit the manipulations, rigging, and over-voting already carried out during the election in some states by the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

The election this year is the sixth since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999. Buhari was first elected President in 2015, on his fourth attempt to lead the country.

Nigeria was more prosperous under PDP, says Atiku

AgegePulse Magazine

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday compared the PDP governments with the present All Progressives Congress administration, saying Nigerians had the longest and consistent record of prosperity and peace under the PDP administration.

Atiku, who made the assertion at the Mapo hall, Ibadan at the South-West presidential rally of the PDP, also promised to begin the restructuring of the country within six months of assumption of office.

He also berated the APC government for allegedly plunging the country into huge debts, saying Nigerians must vote President Muhammadu Buhari out of office in 2019.

Atiku,  who was accompanied to the rally  by his running mate, Peter Obi; the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; the  Director-General of his campaign, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former governors of Ekiti and Osun, Ayo Fayose and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola respectively, lamented the widespread hunger, poverty and insecurity in the land.

He assured Nigerians that he would assemble the best economic team to return prosperity to Nigeria.

The presidential candidate urged Nigerians not to believe the alleged lies of the APC and to use their permanent voter cards to send the ruling party away.

What Tinubu said about Atiku, Oshiomhole after Wednesday’s meeting with Buhari

Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the threat posed by Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

After meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, Tinubu was asked if he is jittery about the strategy meeting convened by Atiku in Dubai, to unseat Buhari.

“We don’t fear. Whether it is in the jungle, or it is in Dubai or it is in Abu Dhabi, people are free to meet and strategise in anyway they want but we are not going back to the illusion of the PDP.

“It is not possible, Nigerians will not do that. They say slow and steady wins the race. We inherited that from our forefathers and knowledgeable people. We can’t go back to the pit that we inherited for 16 years. They can strategise from anywhere but a leopard cannot change it skin,” he told State House correspondents.

He said the meeting with Buhari was about “the nation, the country, our people, peace, stability and economic progress”.

Asked if he was in support of the call for Adams Oshiomhole’s removal as APC national chairman, Tinubu said: “No. We all have to respect party supremacy. You were all here when we had the congress, we elected the new executives, the convention we had it, the NEC was formed and we surrendered to avoid conflict, to avoid domination, to avoid abuses of power, we surrendered our rights, all rights to the national working committee headed by Adams Oshiomhole.

“That the national working committee should set up electoral bodies to supervise various state congresses and elections. We signed for it. So, if it is not in our individual favour, so be it. We gave three options: consensus, where there is no consensus because if you are more than two or three and you cannot agree to one candidate, you go to the next level.

“The next level is the stakeholders’ delegate election and you have to be supervised by the national working committee of the party, national election committee of the party. That shows party supremacy.

“We had the freest option, the less cumbersome is to open direct primary, line up and count the number, 1,2,3. If you win, you win and if you fail, go home. Then appeal committee was set up to listen to all appeals, internal mechanism for conflict resolution. It was there, you cannot turn round against that, you cannot turn against all of that.

“No. Party is supreme, party must be respected, abuses will not do it and anger will not do it. It is party politics, somebody will win and somebody will lose… too bad

The final votes announced by the electoral body shows that Oyetola got 255,505 votes, while Adeleke secured 255,023 votes.
Consequently, the Returning Officer, Professor Joseph Fuwape, declared Oyetola the winner of the election.
