…Says education key to IKEJA Agenda; announces 2026 bursary portal
The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has distributed 50,000 exercise books, 3,000 school bags and 1,000 mathematical sets to pupils across the council.
The materials were presented at the Back-to-School 2.0 programme held at the Marriage Registry, with the theme: “Supporting Education, Inspiring Excellence.”
AKOD said the initiative is part of the Knowledge-Based Economic Empowerment component of the I.K.E.J.A Agenda, aimed at supporting pupils and reducing the financial burden on parents.
"Our Back-to-School is one of our major programmes under education. It is the second edition under our administration, with thousands of our children across our schools having benefited from the first edition. We are encouraged by the impact of the programme and remain committed to doing more to support our children and ease the burden on parents", he said.
He highlighted other education interventions, including free GCE forms for over 200 students in 2025 and 2026 respectively, JAMB forms for 500 students, ongoing free GCE coaching and JAMB lessons, as well as school renovations in Ikeja. Over 200 secondary school leavers and undergraduates also benefiting from the ongoing council’s two-month holiday job programme.
AKOD urged the beneficiaries to use the materials judiciously and take their education seriously. He also announced that the 2026 bursary portal will open by October 15 for eligible indigent residents.
The Supervisor for Education, Barrister Oluwapelumi Ologunde, said distribution to pupils across the council’s eight schools would commence immediately.
A pupil of Alausa Nursery and Primary School, Azeez Sawanu, thanked AKOD and pledged that the beneficiaries would make good use of the materials.
