By Ayodele Ifasakin

JS Babatunde

“To whom much is given, much is expected” you all have placed your trust in me, I promise never to let you down.

The Executive Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA, Hon. Johnson  Babatunde has reassured the good people of Orile Agege of his commitment towards the modernisation of the LCDA.

Mr. Project disclosed this in a media broadcast share to newsmen in Orile Agege LCDA in Lagos.

"I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to steer the ship of this great LCDA once again as you all have come en masse to vote me back to the office as the Council Mayor in order to consolidate on what we have achieved so far. Seeking re-election back to the office I promise to do more and better in this new dispensation if re-elected. since you have made that possible for I will not disappoint you.

"In this new dispensation, we are looking forward to improving the lifestyle of the people through meaningful empowerment as we have done earlier in our previous administration where over 500 residents were beneficiaries of N100,000 each in our quarterly empowerment program.

"Widows and the less privileged were also not left out as we engage in the Monthly Distribution of Food Items in order to ease hunger among them. We also bought 19 Mini busses (korope) for unemployed youth who were selected systematically across the 6 wards of the LCDA. As a Government, we are consolidating on what we have achieved so far on empowerment and we promise to do more.

We are going on a pace that will be higher than that of our first term on Road and Infrastructure where we embarked on so many Construction and Rehabilitation of Toads and Drainages within the LCDA in order to make life much easier for the people of this LCDA.

"Upon resumption, in office, we will not rest on our oars but be too swift to action by completing our Ongoing Projects and embark on New Projects which will be ready for commission before our first 100 days in office. We will be commissioning not less than 12 projects across all sectors in our first 100 days.

"On Education, we are going to make schools in this LCDA a model for others to follow as it’s our responsibility to ensure pupils have a conducive place to learn. In our first term in office, we embark on the transformation of dilapidated schools within the LCDA such as the Rehabilitation of Zion African Church Primary School, Ideal Primary School, 1 Block of 4 Classrooms at Girls High School, 1 Block of 6 Classrooms at Government Comprehensive Junior College. We also have ongoing projects at Oyewole Primary School Complex, State High School Oyewole.

"My appreciation goes to residents and indigenes of Orile Agege for making us have a peaceful reign in our first term in office and also relying on your unflinching support in the days ahead by ensuring you pay all taxes and levies as at when due because we are going to make judicious use of your money for the development of Orile Agege and also detest the vandalization of public properties". Said, the council Mayor.

CORONAVIRUS: LASG to Shut down Schools

AgegePulse Magazine

As part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Government is closing down all public and private schools from Monday, 23rd March 2020.

The move becomes necessary to prevent our children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable to the pandemic.

It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitizers and observe high standards of personal hygiene.
Children should be encouraged to remain at home.

The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat.

The Incident Command Centre, headed by the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is the Incident Commander, will continue to trace all contacts of the identified cases and encourage anyone who has information about suspected cases to report to the nearest hospital or call  the emergency telephone numbers 08023169485, 08033565529, 08052817243 and 08023401214.

… Rolls Out 29 School Projects

AgegePulse Magazine

As part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure in Public Schools, the Lagos State government has approved the construction of new blocks of classrooms, hostels and watchtowers in 29 Lagos Public schools spread across the five divisions of the State.

The Chairman of the Special Committee for Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Smith, who disclosed this during a strategic meeting held at Alausa, stressed that the projects will be executed under the Phase One Schools Rehabilitation Project exercise.

He revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu has declared zero tolerance on the poor state of infrastructure in public schools and directed that all defective structures in schools be replaced with new classroom blocks.

Smith hinted that the present administration’s approach to revamping the public schools' infrastructure is all-encompassing, saying "we are taking the issue of security seriously in our public schools that is why watchtowers, floodlights, security fences and panic alarm systems have been introduced as part of secondary school projects in order to keep the teachers and the pupils secured."

The Chairman added that blocks of new hostels shall be provided in most of the model colleges to improve the quality of lives, expressing dissatisfaction at the poor state of the hostels which he described as inadequate and unacceptable.

AgegePulse learnt that the delivery time for these projects is between eight to 15 months, depending on the scope of work in each school, while expressing optimism that the rehabilitation of public schools will surely lead to an increase in enrolment.

Some of the schools earmarked for the projects Phase 1 include Badagry Grammar School; Epe Grammar School, Eva Adelaja Memorial Girls Grammar School, Somolu; Araromi Ilogbo Junior Secondary School; Alagbado Junior Grammar School, Alimosho and Ijaye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School, Ifako Ijaye.

Churches meant to feed the hungry

Jesusegun Alagbe

The Lead Pastor, Life Anchor Ministry International, Lagos, Bayo Akinjiyan, has said that the purpose of the Church, which is the body of believers in Christ across the world, is to feed the hungry and treat the sick.
The cleric stated this at the fourth anniversary of the ministry which held in Lagos recently.

Speaking on the theme, “The Glory of the Latter House,” Akinjiyan said the purpose of the Church was to provide for the needy, saying this was why the local church recently conducted a community medical outreach in the Agege area of the city.

Akinjiyan recalled this was why those who brought Christianity to Africa  established schools and hospitals in order to provide free education and medical service.
He said, “We had a community outreach recently and we were able to reach out to the sick and the needy by giving out free drugs and clothes. Foodstuffs were also sold at highly discounted prices.

“This is because I believe that Christianity is about relationship with God and affecting lives. Jesus commended some people by saying they visited him while he was in prison, fed him while he was hungry and treated him while he was sick.

“Those ones asked when they saw him and did all those things; he replied that as long as they did it for others, they had done it for him. That is the essence of Christianity.”

The cleric added that the church had trained over 2,000 people in recent years in leadership and skills acquisition.

AMBODE APPROVES RECRUITMENT OF 2200 TEACHERS

AgegePulse Magazine

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday approved the recruitment of additional 1200 teachers for the Junior and Senior Secondary schools in the State.

The Governor, at the last quarterly Town Hall meeting at Ibeju Lekki, had promised that his administration would employ more teachers into public schools to meet up with the manpower required to cover all public schools in the State.

Confirming the development, Deputy Governor of the State, Mrs. Idiat Adebule said the 1200 teachers was an addition to the 1000 teachers which the Governor had approved for recruitment into Primary Schools in the State.

Adebule, who superintends over the Ministry of Education, said guidelines for application would be released soon in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.

The development, she added, would further aid teaching and learning in the public schools which according to her, has been attracting more enrollment in the last three years as a result of the improved infrastructure and welfare of teaching and non-teaching staff.

She said the improved facilities and staff motivation was evident in the high performance rate of the students of the State in local and international competitions.
