Infrastructure: Ashaolu Residents Extol Agege Council Chairman Over Road Construction

 By Yomi Durojaye

The Residents of Ashaolu Street over the weekend extolled the Agege Council Chairman led administration, Hon. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi over the  construction of the street which was concluded few weeks ago.

Infrastructure:  Ashaolu  Residents Extol  Agege Council Chairman Over Road Construction

Prior to the construction, the street had never gotten the attention of necessary agencies for over decades, this has left the people living in this community to be left out of hope and help any time it rains.

AgegePulse Magazine during its special report, had a brief interview with some residents of the street, praised the Government, particularly the Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi led administration in Agege for deeming it fit to  site such laudable construction in their Street.

Infrastructure:  Ashaolu  Residents Extol  Agege Council Chairman Over Road Construction

"The job done at the street met the required standard, the roads are well constructed with covered spacious drainage that can comfortably stand the test of time, when it comes to flooding, particularly during the rainy season, which has primarily been one of the major prayers of the residents before now, the asphalt are well laid and marked radiating like a polished terrazzo". One of the residents said.

"Shola Ahmed, a resident said the beauty of the work usually comes up at night when the solar lights illuminate at night, the community becomes like a small London, this is a promise mad and promise delivered by the council Chairman".

Residents were advised to take full ownership and responsibilities of these assets because some unscrupulous elements may take joy in destroying some of these laudable projects for selfish interest in the name of vandals, which will rob the users of the gain and benefit they may derive from these projects.

It was learnt that, the road was delivered with a drainage system, and a full lighting system for the good people of Ashaolu Street of Keke, Agege.

Ikeja Electric Spent Over N200Millions To Boosts Infrastructure with Replacement of Faulty Transformer in Ikorodu

AgegePulse Magazine

Ikeja Electric Spent Over N200Millions To Boosts Infrastructure with Replacement of Faulty Transformer in Ikorodu

Nigeria’s leading Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) in its efforts to strengthen critical infrastructure to ensure improved service to its esteemed customers in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State recently replaced the faulty 15MVA power transformer at Sabo Injection Substation (ISS) with a new one.

According to the Chief Technical Officer, Ikeja Electric, Engr. Olajide Kumapayi, the replacement of the faulty power transformer which costs close to Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N250m), became necessary to ease the menace of poor power supply being experienced by over fifteen thousand customers that are getting supply from the power transformer one (T1) at Sabo Injection Substation before it went bad completely.

He noted that the replacement will increase the availability of supply from the previous three hours to a minimum of twelve hours daily. This would be based on the service band tariff class associated with the feeders.

Engr. Kumapayi stated that nine 11kv feeders were radiated from Sabo Injection Sub-station through the two power transformers which includes Ayangburen, Lasunwon, Lagos Road, Marie, Ladega, Erunwen, Igbogbo, Ijebu-Ode and Eyita communities and environs.

He further explained that the construction of a new Injection Substation at the Lagos State University of Technology (LASUTECH) Ikorodu will commence shortly noting that it will provide one dedicated 11kv feeder for LASUTECH and two additional feeders to relieve Erunwen and Ijebu-Ode 11kv feeders in the Sabo Injection Substation. He assured that these investments will no doubt ensure optimal utilization of the technical assets to guarantee wider access and power availability across all impacted feeders in our resolve to meet the demand of our esteemed customers.

The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotiew hile expressing IE’s commitment to improved service delivery to her esteemed customers across the entire network coverage area, thanked vigilant customers, community leaders and security operatives who have continued to assist in safeguarding electrical equipment in their neighborhood against theft, vandalism and acts of sabotage as failure to do so will jeopardize concerted efforts of the company from achieving the desired objective of sustainably powering livelihoods, businesses and communities.

Lagos Embarks On Non-Destructive Integrity Test on Public-Schools Infrastructure

#AgegePulse

The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) has flagged-off the non-destructive test exercise on public-school infrastructure to prevent any possibility of collapsed buildings and ensure safety of pupils, students and staff of the institutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, which held at Omole Senior Secondary School, Omole, Ikeja, the General Manager of the Agency, Dr. Abiodun Afolabi, said the exercise is another significant effort that affirms the commitment of the present administration to reform the Education and Environment sectors in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

“We are flagging off the commencement of this exercise, which will be carried out in phases. The first phase includes the conduct of non-destructive test on 25 selected Primary and Secondary Schools across the State and will last for two weeks”, he said.

Explaining that the non-destructive tests being conducted by the Agency are diagnostic in nature and will reveal any structural defects in the school buildings, the General Manager disclosed that similar exercise had been extended to private schools, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, with over 50 educational institutions in Ikeja subjecting their buildings to the test.

Afolabi revealed that the Agency, in 2019, also carried out a similar exercise on government buildings within the old and new secretariat complexes at Alausa and Oba Akinjobi respectively, asserting that all the buildings passed the Integrity Test and were, therefore, declared structurally fit.

He maintained that Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory is well equipped to carry out various quality assurance tests including soil, water, concrete,  non-destructive, Geoscience etc.

While advising residents to subject their buildings to requisite tests, the General Manager maintained that the process will go a long way in reducing the loss of lives and property resulting from building and civil engineering infrastructure defects.

… Rolls Out 29 School Projects

AgegePulse Magazine

As part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure in Public Schools, the Lagos State government has approved the construction of new blocks of classrooms, hostels and watchtowers in 29 Lagos Public schools spread across the five divisions of the State.

The Chairman of the Special Committee for Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Smith, who disclosed this during a strategic meeting held at Alausa, stressed that the projects will be executed under the Phase One Schools Rehabilitation Project exercise.

He revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu has declared zero tolerance on the poor state of infrastructure in public schools and directed that all defective structures in schools be replaced with new classroom blocks.

Smith hinted that the present administration’s approach to revamping the public schools' infrastructure is all-encompassing, saying "we are taking the issue of security seriously in our public schools that is why watchtowers, floodlights, security fences and panic alarm systems have been introduced as part of secondary school projects in order to keep the teachers and the pupils secured."

The Chairman added that blocks of new hostels shall be provided in most of the model colleges to improve the quality of lives, expressing dissatisfaction at the poor state of the hostels which he described as inadequate and unacceptable.

AgegePulse learnt that the delivery time for these projects is between eight to 15 months, depending on the scope of work in each school, while expressing optimism that the rehabilitation of public schools will surely lead to an increase in enrolment.

However, the young LG boss and his team have taken it upon the themselves  to sort the road that has been given the Agege secretariat bad reputation for some months now.

Speaking with Agegepulse today, Egunjobi said; "As a responsible and responsive government, we cannot continue to waiting for State Government to fix this road for us."

"The road is important to us and other motorists because it is one of the alternative routes for the ongoing construction of Pen Cinema flyover bridge."

"APC government is one government from the national  to the state and local government level, hence cooperation is needed to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people and that is why we have decided to proffer solution to the niggling inconvenience that the dilapidated road is causing our people and visitors."

"On this note, we will like to inform the general public that Agege Local Government is currently rehabilitating Ogba-Ijaiye Road. The work, which commenced yesterday (Thursday), will be completed next week.

As a result of the on-going rehabilitation, the road is partially closed to traffic and we urge motorists to use alternative routes, namely Shobowale Street, Oshindehin Street, and Oshugboye Street, all off Akilo road.

INFRASTRUCTURE: PEN CINEMA FLYOVER, LAGOS ALLAYS FEAR OF STAKEHOLDERS OVER COMPENSATION

...Says Prompt Submission Of Documents ‘ll Enhance Payment Process

The Lagos State Government on Monday allayed the fears of property owners affected by removal of structures for the construction of the Pen Cinema Flyover, assuring that all would be compensated in due course.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Abiola Anifowoshe, the government specifically debunked media reports suggesting that it was unnecessarily delaying compensation, saying those whose structures were demolished would be paid.

Anifowoshe said the State Government had already held a stakeholders' meeting with the affected property owners during which the details of the flyover project were presented to the stakeholders.

According to Anifowoshe, “It was instructive that the stakeholders at the meeting welcomed the development and the Lagos State Government secured their buy-in.

"The government representatives at the meeting also urged the people to submit all relevant documents showing proof of ownership. Our officials served all the statutory notices and even gave more than enough time for the affected property owners to be aware of the removal.

“Also, there were newspaper publications to that effect stating government intention and expectations from the people. As a matter of fact, many of such have been submitted to my office and the compensation process has commenced fully,” the Commissioner said.

Alluding to the fact that the construction of the flyover was in a bid to bring about development and end the perennial traffic situation in Agege axis, Anifowoshe said the State Government had to remove its own staff buildings belonging to the Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC) to give way for the project.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all residents of LSDPC in Agege that the Lagos State Government will compensate everyone involved and also to all other privately-owned property owners that the government understands their plight and is working tirelessly to ensure that those affected are compensated,” he said.

While emphasizing that prompt submission of relevant documents would facilitate the process of payment, the Commissioner urged all affected property owners who are yet to produce their planning documents such as Certified Registered Title Document of Properties within the said Right of Way, Approved Building Plan Permit for the affected structures and any other relevant documents as proof of ownership, to do so without delay.

“We like to urge them to submit their documents to the Office of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Block 15, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja to ensure that all affected owners are compensated appropriately.

“In conclusion, the Lagos State Government hereby reiterates its commitment towards ensuring that there is even development across the State. By the time the Pen Cinema Flyover construction is completed, there will be traffic decongestion in the axis and this will enhance the socio-economic development of Agege and environs,” Anifowoshe said.

Infrastructure, education, transport, security, health sectors to get lion share in Ambode N1.046trn Y2018 budget proposal

…Earmarks 67% to capital expenditure, 33% for recurrent, targets N720bn IG

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday presented the Year 2018 Budget proposal of N1.046trillion to the House of Assembly, with a pledge that his administration will make every effort to complete all ongoing projects as well as initiate new ones to consolidate on the development recorded in the last 30 months.

Governor Ambode, who christened the 2018 Budget as “Budget of Progress and Development”, said it would be used to consolidate on the achievements recorded in infrastructure, education, transportation/traffic management, security and health sectors.

He said the Budget would also focus on mandatory capacity building for civil servants, all teachers in public secondary/primary schools, officers in the health service sector and women & youth empowerment alongside Medium and Small/Micro Size Entrepreneurs (MSMSE’s).

Outlining the key components of the budget, Governor Ambode said capital expenditure would gulp N699.082billion while N347.039billion would be dedicated to recurrent expenditure, representing a Capital/Recurrent ratio of 67 percent to 33 percent and a 28.67 percent increase over Y2017 budget.

The Governor said that despite the modest achievements recorded in 2017, there was still much work ahead, assuring that Government would not relent in its efforts to give Lagosians the best by way of continuous and efficient service delivery.

“Lagos has always been a trailblazer and we must consolidate on the economic gains made so far by initiating people-friendly programmes and projects that will attract more economic improvement in Y2018.

“It is our resolve in Y2018 to strive and complete all on-going projects in order to meet their specified completion period and embark on new strategic projects. We intend to improve on our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the face of the dwindling accruable revenue allocation from the Federal Government, sustain our vision on wealth creation and poverty alleviation,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor also listed key projects captured in the 2018 Budget to include the Agege Pen Cinema flyover; alternative routes through Oke-Ira in Eti-Osa to Epe-Lekki Expressway; the 8km regional road to serve as alternative route to connect Victoria Garden City (VGC) with Freedom Road in Lekki Phase I; completion of the on-going reconstruction of Oshodi International Airport Road into a 10-lane road and the BRT Lane from Oshodi to Abule-Egba.

On infrastructural renewal, Governor Ambode said his administration remains committed to sustaining the tempo of continuous construction, rehabilitation, upgrading and maintenance of network of roads across the State including those within the boundary areas of Lagos and Ogun States and that the bus reform initiative would be consolidated with the introduction of high and medium capacity buses, construction and completion of bus depots at Oshodi, Anthony, Yaba and many others.
He also said the movement of Mile 12 market to Imota had reached an advanced stage and would be completed in good time to pave way for relocation next year, while the 181 Local Government Roads will be commenced as contractors will be mobilized immediately, as well as continuous gridlock resolution, junction improvement, construction of more laybys and advancement of signalization that will improve traffic congestion especially along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

In the area of job creation, Governor Ambode said the Government would construct an ICT Focus Incubator Centre in Yaba, commence the development of Imota and Igbonla Light Industrial Park as well as the provision of additional small scale industrial estate at Shala, while the State Employment Trust Fund will disburse more funds to Lagosians to support business and stimulate the economy.

Governor Ambode also assured that his administration will vigorously pursue its planned direct intervention in the power value chain towards generating 3,000MW Embedded Power Programme within a three-year plan to achieving 24/7 power supply for the State, stressing that the challenge of inadequate power supply must be resolved for the economy to perform optimally.

He said within the 2018 fiscal year, the Government would continue to rekindle its efforts in the area of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture as well as embark on some major projects that would ensure that the State emerges as the hub for tourism, sports and entertainment.

He listed some of the projects to include completion of the five new Art Theatres; establish a Heritage Centre at the former Federal Presidential State House recently handed over to the State Government; build a world class museum between the former Presidential Lodge and the State House, Marina; fast-track construction of the proposed four new stadia in Igbogbo, Epe, Badagry and Ajeromi Ifelodun (Ajegunle) and complete the on-going Epe and Badagry Marina projects.

On Housing, Governor Ambode said that all on-going projects especially those at Gbagada, Igbogbo, Iponri, Igando, Omole Phase I, Sangotedo and Ajara-Badagry would be completed for delivery under the Rent-to-Own policy.

While acknowledging the cooperation and support received from Lagosians, members of the Business Community, Professional Bodies, Non-governmental Organizations and the State Civil Servants in years past, the Governor noted that the modest achievements by his administration within a short period couldn’t have been possible without residents who have been paying their taxes willingly and faithfully.

Besides, Governor Ambode urged residents to embrace the Public Utility Levy as the Cleaner Lagos Initiative aimed at ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment would commence in 2018.

Governor Ambode also commended members of the House of Assembly for their selfless service and support, saying that they have proven themselves to be dynamic and robust lawmakers and partners in progress.

Giving a sectoral breakdown at a press briefing in Alausa, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade said General Public Services got N171,623bn, representing 16.41 percent; Public Order and Safety, N46.612bn, representing 4.46; Economic Affairs, N473,866bn, 45.30 percent; Environmental Protection, N54,582bn, representing 5.22percent while Housing and Community Amenities got N59,904bn, representing 5.73 percent.

Ashade also told journalists that Health sector got N92.676billion, representing 8.86percent; Recreation, Culture and Religion got N12.511billion, representing 1.20 percent; Education got N126.302billion representing 12.07percent, while Social Protection got N8.042billion representing 0.77percent.

Receiving the budget, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa commended Governor Ambode for faithfully executing the year 2017 budget, saying the positive impact of such had been felt across the State with various projects such as the Abule Egba, Ajah and Pen Cinema Flyovers, among other numerous projects in various sectors.

Obasa, who specifically lauded the fact that the 2018 budget estimate had provision for continuous infrastructural development in various sectors such as transport, security, environment, housing, health and capacity building for all public servants including teachers and health workers, however assured that the House would scrutinize it and ensure that the budget delivered on its promises to stimulate the economy of the State by focusing on infrastructure development, delivering inclusive growth and prioritizing the welfare of all Lagosians.

The event was attended by dignitaries in the State including members of the State Executive Council led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, former Speakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly from Lagos State, former Deputy Governors of the State, party chieftains, traditional rulers, religious leaders, among others.

Infrastructure: J.S Babatunde Sets to Commission Six Boreholes in Orile-Agege - AgegePulse

Going by the information made available to Agege Pulse few hours ago, the people of Orile Agege will on Friday 24th November witness another round of infrastructural gains from the Hon. Johnson Sunday Babatunde led administration.

The Executive Chairman, alongside Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare will be commissioning six boreholes in six different locations that according to reports, have been grossly affected by dearth of water supplies.

The commissioning is part of Hon Babatunde's 100 days in office celebration.

In a phone conversation with Agege Pulse Editor, he said it's been 100 days with gains for the people of Orile Agege adding that they had waited haplessly for 24years to experience tailored projects like the new roads and boreholes.

While urging the people to expect more, Hon. Babatunde said the boreholes were constructed based on the immediate demands of the host communities, hence go beyond superfluous projects.

Stay tuned to Agege Pulse for live and detailed reports from the commissioning tomorrow.

Orile-Agege LCDA gets infrastructural boost as Executive Chairman, Johnson Sunday Babatunde inspects ongoing road construction across the council.

Agege Pulse Magazine

The amiable Chairman who has placed roads construction and rehabilitation atop his agenda for the LCDA, was sighted in a yellow flowing agbada yesterday around Omotoye Estate gate leading to Iresi Street and going down to Daddy Oniyide Street where he was inspecting the level of work done by the site engineers.

Feelers in Orile Agege say the ongoing construction is one of the most economic viable roads in the area because it links many inner roads to the major road.

Coker Street and Mulero Junction are some of the major areas of the community that the J.S BABATUNDE led administration has given facelift to.

Governor Ambode to commence 181 new roads soon

AgegePulse Magazine

...To bridge infrastructure gap between the divisions, districts to make every part livable

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday pledged his readiness to make every part of the State livable by bridging the infrastructure gap between the divisions and senatorial districts.

The Governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello, at the opening ceremony of the 4th summit of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries with the theme "IBILE ECHOES" added that the present administration will make every part of the State economic centres.

“Making every part of the State economic centres is a key strategy to address the challenge of rural-urban migration which has a negative impact on urban infrastructures and other social and economic challenges”, the Governor stated.

He noted that part of what had been done by the Government in this regard is the connection of communities in Ibeju- Lekki and Badagry to the national grid after several years without electric power supply.

“Part of what we have done in this regard is the connection of communities in Ibeju Lekki and Badagry to the national grid after several years without electric power supply. In addition, the 114 roads initiative has been delivered while the 181 new roads will commence very soon”, he said.

Governor Ambode expressed the belief that every division of the State has something to contribute to its collective prosperity if properly harnessed, adding that one of the key policy objectives of the administration is to ensure even development among the five divisions or three Senatorial districts.

He cited the example of the Badagry and Epe axis with its great tourism potentials, stressing that it is one sector with limitless opportunities in terms of wealth and employment creation.

In his words: “We are therefore committed to opening up these two axes through massive investment in infrastructure development and renewal to attract both local and foreign investors. When fully developed, our State will join other cities and countries whose major chunk of foreign exchange comes from tourism”.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola said members of ALARHOSPS are at a critical turn in the history of the State because its 50th anniversary has been celebrated and this gave them the opportunity to reflect on history and the reasons that Lagos
State is a Centre of Excellence.

COWLSO urges govt to provide lands, grants for women in agri-business

The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) on Thursday concluded its three-day National Women Conference, with a charge on women to step up their entrepreneurial skills and not be afraid of being more successful than their spouses.

The Committee also urged women to take full advantage of the paradigm shift from Nigeria’s dependence on oil and explore the many opportunities available in the fast growing agricultural industry.

This was part of the 22-point communiqué reached at the conclusion of the Conference with the theme, “She Creates, She Transforms”, held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos and read by the wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.

“Women were charged to step up and not be afraid of being more successful than their spouses and they must be willing to invest more to expand their pool of income,” the communiqué read in part.

The Conference also tasked women to embrace entrepreneurial disposition and also get more involved in animal husbandry because of their prudence and passion, in order to increase daily production in the country, while government should also provide lands and conducive environment for women farmers.

Besides, women were encouraged to help one another by introducing themselves to organizations where funds could be accessed such as Fund for Agricultural Finance in Nigeria (FAFIN), Bank of Industry, among others.

“Women should be solution providers that are purpose-driven rather than looking for immediate financial profits. These give opportunities to contribute towards improving the society.

“The Conference reiterated that women must be empowered in order to take care of the family, community and the nation.

The conference also stressed the fact that women should be positively aggressive and assertive in order to contribute to the development of the nation,” the communiqué also read.

The Conference also appreciated the Lagos State Government for empowering women through its skill acquisition programme.

In her closing remarks, COWLSO Chairman and Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode said it was important for Nigerian women to understand that they are in a unique situation at this point in time, and must see the current reality in the country not as a hopeless situation but an opportunity for entrepreneurial ambition to make a positive impact in a challenging situation.

While making reference to one of the sessions at the conference which focused on agriculture, Mrs. Ambode said women should have good mentors, be consistent and persist in doing the right things, noting that challenges should be seen as mere stepping stones that do not kill.

She said: "I urge all participants to make the best use of all they learnt at the conference for their personal benefits. You should also please endeavour to pass on the knowledge acquired."
Declaring the conference closed, Adamawa State Governor, Senator Jubrilla Bindow, who was the Special Guest of Honour, lauded the sterling performance of his counterpart in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode in office so far, describing his infrastructural renewal efforts as unprecedented and revolutionary.

Bindow said Governor Ambode, through his brilliant works, had confirmed to Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was committed to bring about positive change in the country.
Bindow, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Martins Babale, said despite the complexities of governing a State with unique peculiarities like Lagos, Governor Ambode had performed creditably well in key sectors, adding that he was indeed proud to associate himself with the achievements, and described his counterpart as a worthy leader.

He said: “Let me end this short address by very sincerely commending my dear brother, His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his sterling performance as the Governor of Lagos State. I know the complexities of governance especially in a highly urban and sophisticated setting like Lagos, but I also acknowledge that my brother has done wonderfully.

“I must say with Ambode’s performance here in Lagos and our achievements in transforming Adamawa State, our party, the APC has glaring signpost of positive change to showcase to Nigerians any day anytime.

“As if working as twins, both my humble self and Governor
Ambode have addressed infrastructure in a very revolutionary manner in our states. This is in addition to commitments in areas of education, health and human services. I am proud to associate myself with my brother the Governor of Lagos State and I am proud of him as a person and as a leader,” Bindow said.

He also commended COWLO leadership and members for coming up with the conference which focused on engaging women positively at a time when others were discussing hate speeches, saying that it was indeed gratifying that the conference deliberated on positive causes and promotion of values.

Earlier, Governor Ambode congratulated the over 2,500 participants at the conference for successfully undergoing three days of networking and experience, saying that from reports, the conference had been very intensive and knowledge-driven.

“We are looking forward to seeing more of this creative and transformative impact on women in Lagos State. Like I always say, our government will always be there to support you and help you to achieve your aspirations,” Governor Ambode said.

Besides, the Governor encouraged women to key into the 22-point communiqué issued at the end of the conference with the view to positively making use of same for the overall benefit of themselves and the State.
