Sanwo-Olu restates commitment to payment of new minimum wage

The Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has restated thei commitment of the administration to the payment of the new N30, 000 minimum wage.

The governor stated this while addressing this year’s Long Service Award of the State at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja on Thursday.

In the address delivered on his behalf by the secretary to the state government, Mrs Sherifat Folashade Jaji, the governor said “As you are already aware, we are committed to the payment of the new minimum wage”.

He also commended the awardees made up of workers who have put in between 30 and 35 years in the service of the state.
He also stated the commitment of the state to staff welfare and development.

“As a government we recognise the need to pay utmost attention to issues of welfare and capacity development which are crucial to the building of twenty first century economy. In line with this recognition, I wish to use this opportunity to restate the commitment of this administration to the training and retraining as well as developing innovative ideas to promote staff welfare”, the governor declared.

In his own address, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the award which is the thirteenth in the series was designed to recognise the contributions of the workers to the service of the state and encourage them to work more in furtherance of the objectives of the administration.

Muri-Okunola also commended the governor for his commitment to the welfare of the workers.

About 1000 workers who have put in between 30 and 35 years in the service of Lagos State were recognised.
