Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, the Chairman, Agege Local Government Council says the proposed National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centre in Agege community will create employment for hundreds of residents of the community.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the NOUN management had in November solicited the council’s support to establish a study centre in the area.

The council chairman was optimistic that many youths would benefit from such a development in Agege community.

“This is a welcome development in Agege area. With such a learning institution coming to our community, many of our youths will be employed.

“Such an institution will also improve the economic standard of the area in terms of demand and supply of goods and services.

“The university authorities have reached an understanding with the management of Agege Local Government Area to site a study centre in the suburb,’’ he said.

According to him, part of the agreements reached was the constitution of a six-man committee comprising of three from each side, charged with drafting a Memorandum of Understanding that will be binding on both parties.

He said the parties decided that the council would provide land on which the study centre would be built, while NOUN would construct the buildings.

Egunjobi said that the university authorities conceded to the council’s demand to have Agege residents dominate the centre’s workforce, particularly the non-academic staff when it comes into operation.

NAN reports that the Olu of Agege Kingdom, Oba Kamila Oyedeji-Isiba, recently received a delegation of the Advocacy Committee of the university in his palace.
