Kings Sports International, organizer of the Obasa Games 2024, held a press conference on October 25, 2024, to outline plans for the event.

The Chairman, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa announced that the games will feature football, boxing, table tennis, scrabble, and chess competitions. The football tournament will have 32 teams from Lagos West Senatorial District, while other games will have 64 male and female participants.



At the conference held on Friday 25 October, 2024 inside council hall of Agege Local Government secretariat, the Chairman of Kings Sports International, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, in his opening remarks, highlighted the games, which include, football tournament having 32 teams participating from across Lagos West Senatorial District; Boxing (Fly weight and Feather weight); Table Tennis Opens; Scrabble Opens; and Chess Opens; having 64 participants (male & female categories). All participant s are from across Lagos West.


The committee made it know to media correspondents that this edition football competitions would take place at 2 venues in Agege, namely, Anwarul Islam Model College, Oniwaya road, Agege; and Dairy Farm secondary school, near Agege stadium while the Semi finals and grand finale take place at Teachers Training College (TTC), Ifako Ijaiye local government area; hosting the grand finale on Saturday, 14 December, 2024.


Other games are scheduled to take place at Agege Stadium indoor sports hall, beginning from Monday, 4th to Friday, 6th December, 2024.


For the prizes, Kings Sports International, announced as follows:

• N6,000,000 for football

1st - N3,000,000

2nd - N2,000,000

3rd - N1,000,000


• N2,000,000 for Boxing (Male & Female categories)

1st - N500,000  + gift items

2nd - N300,000 + gift items

3rd - N200,000 + gift items


• N2,000,000 for Table Tennis (Male & Female categories)

1st - N500,000 + gift items

2nd - N300,000 + gift items

3rd - N200,000 + gift items


• N1,000,000 for Scrabble Opens.

1st - N500,000 + gift items

2nd - N300,000 + gift items

3rd - N200,000 + gift items


• N1,000,000 for Chess Opens.

1st - N500,000 + gift items

2nd - N300,000 + gift items

3rd - N200,000 + gift items.


Total prizes worth N12 million will be awarded to winners across the different categories of all the games. The goal of the games is to develop grassroots sports talent, with opportunities for top performers to be scouted by international talent seekers.


Recall that Kings Sports International held its maiden edition last year November/December tagged: OBASA CUP 2023.

Man allegedly caught in Living Faith Church with explosives

A 30-year-old man was on Sunday caught with what is suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Sabon Tasha branch of the Living Faith Church, (aka Winners) Chapel in Kaduna.

This is Just as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pa Enoch Adeboye led members on a prayer walk to decry insecurity in the country.

Reports gathered stated that this is not the first time the suspect was coming to the church, adding that just last week, he came but was sent away.

Accordinng to reports the Chief Security Officer of the parish stated that the suspect was monitored on a CCTV Camera carrying the bag into the church auditorium.

According to him, the suspect successfully gained access and was already seated before his bag was searched and the explosive device was found.

Edet who said he was not in a position to hand out details to the press, appealed to our correspondent to wait to get details from the presiding pastor when the service was over.

He, however, said the suspect had been handed over to the police and moved to the Sabon Tasha Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Daily Post, an officer at the Sabo Police station confirmed that the suspect had actually been brought to the Police Station.
