The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District One, Dr (Mrs) Yinka Ayandele has called on members of the
Association of Professional Counselors, APROCON to be vigilant and observant of the career interest of every students right from their first day in school.
Dr Ayandele gave the advise while speaking at a one-day in-house workshop organised for counselors domicile within Lagos Education District One, tagged; Developing Latent Abilities: Guidance Counselling Service For Total Development of the Child.
She stated that Counseling is a process of guiding students to their expected outcome with full concentration on areas where students have strengths, hence guidance and counseling officers must be ready to observe this interest and help the students build their consciousness towards their choice career path.
"Guiding students to a particular subject towards career courses is very key. As you do this, you need to embrace technology to widen your knowledge and that of the students for appropriate guidance and counseling." Dr Ayandele said.
Earlier, EDD1 Head of Guidance and Counseling, Mrs. Owoo M.B stated that the significance of the workshop is to facilitate the learning process and self-development of learners.
She said the role of Counselors can never be over ruled in raising the moral values of students.
In another presentation, Barrister Taiwo Akinlami advised the counselors, teachers and other stakeholders to always be source of solution to any challenges whenever they appear in a child's life.
Barrister Akinlami added that in view of many advancements and inventions of 21st century, child counselors encourage embrace technology to be at the same exposure level with the children.
