AgegePulse Magazine
Lagos State Government has expressed its commitment to create more developmental and invention programmes to engender productivity amongst students, prepare them for the future, empower them with tools to redirect their minds from premarital sex and encourage them to develop innate skills and talent through scientific inventions of economic value.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, who disclosed this in her address at the Lagos Schools Invention Platform “Lagos SIP”, Season I1, stated that the SIP initiative, introduced in 2007 and formerly referred to as Jamfeast, was designed to redirect the minds of students from immoral escapades towards inventions and entrepreneurship for self-discovery and future economic independence.
Mrs. Adefisayo, who was represented at the programme by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, stressed that the Lagos State Government, in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, is placing more emphasis on invention and entertainment to discover hidden talents in our youths, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is determined to assist talented individuals achieve their full potentials.
While noting that the State Government will continue to raise the bar with measures put in place for the continuous success of the Lagos SIP, Adefisayo called on stakeholders and corporate organisations to partner with the State Government in promoting the inventions of the students globally.
Earlier, the Director, Private Education and Special Programmes, Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo, affirmed that the SIP, in the last one decade has proven to be effective and many of the inventions exhibited by the students over the years have won laurels for the State at the National and International Competitions.
“Most of the student-inventors have graduated in various fields of study while others have distinguished themselves in entrepreneurship and various self-sustaining vocations. Many have also become employers of labour rather than being employed or job seekers”, he added.
Adebayo, however, urged the students to be focused and shun all vices, pointing out that they should brace up for every challenge because opportunities exist from surmounting difficulties.
The highpoint of this year’s School Invention Platform “SIP” was the presentation of prizes to the First, Second and Third positions respectively in the different categories of Inventions, Poetry, Drama, Choreography and Songs.
Education District I clinched the first position while second and third positions were won by Education Districts IV and V respectively.
