Don’t interfere in your successors’ administration - Obasa warns ex-Lagos LG Chairmen

 Awwal Rafiu

The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has advised former local government chairmen in the state to steer clear of the administrations of their successors.

Obasa spoke at a meeting with the newly elected chairmen, according to a statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday.

The Lagos Speaker warned the immediate past chairmen of local governments and local council development areas in the state to release their stranglehold on their successors.

He said that the former council bosses have done their bit, hence they should allow their predecessors to do their own.

Obasa equally advised the former council bosses to allow the current ones to work without any obstacles.

He condemned the conduct of some former council bosses who are reportedly still exerting undue influence on their successors.

“How can you be answerable to your predecessors? What you owe them is honour, not to allow them to control you. They have done their bit, and everybody is grateful; you are the ones in the saddle now. So, take charge.

“Let the new chairmen breathe. Let the public see that there are new sheriffs in town and that they are doing a good job. Let their work show. Don’t take their shine. Remove your grip on their necks.

“Before you start paying loans, ask questions. Where you are unsure of what the loan was used for, ask questions and look through the books. If you can renegotiate or restructure the terms of the loans, do so for the betterment of your constituents,” Obasa said.

LASG gives 18-month deadline for Computer Village relocation

Yomi Durojaye

The Lagos State Government has said traders at the Computer Village in Ikeja have an 18-month window to relocate to the new site at Katangowa, Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.

Computer village, Ikeja

A Tuesday statement noted that the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, made this known while speaking at a stakeholders meeting held at the market with the traders and their executives.

“The government wants your cooperation to ensure the relocation comes to pass. The time is now. We have to make the project a reality. The relocation period is 18 months,” he said.

Oki said the state government had put necessary facilities in place at the new location to make the place conducive for the traders.

He noted that the present location in Ikeja was formerly a residential area, which, over the years, had been converted into a trading centre without the government’s approval.

Oki added that the plan to relocate the traders to Katangowa had been on since 2006, but due to the slow pace of the development work, the relocation suffered setbacks.

He told the traders that the stakeholders’ engagement was to carry them along on the government’s plan, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu believes in inclusiveness and the welfare of the people.

He said, “The governor is passionate about the development of the infrastructure of Lagos State, and he wants all of you to be aware of the relocation. Katangowa is a place chosen for everything relating to this market. It’s 15 hectares of land. It is near all the materials you need for your business.

“The present location used to be a residential area and so many things are attached to this place. Where the government is taking you is well laid out and we want all of you to know what the relocation is all about. We want to work with you and plan the relocation together. Everyone wants change but there are things that will affect us if we are going to experience that change.”

The Project Coordinator, Olayinka Bello, said the new location had been designed to accommodate some infrastructures such as a police post, hotels, and accessibility to the BRT terminal for easy movement.

The Iyaloja, Computer Village, Chief Abisola Azeez, said the executive of the market, in 2006, reached an agreement with the then governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, now President, to relocate the market to Katangowa and urged the traders to abide by the government’s decision to relocate them within the period.

₦2.225 Trillion Shared: Tinubu Media Force Applauds President Tinubu’s Historic FAAC Milestone

Yomi Durojaye

...Challenges Local Governments to Invest in entrepreneurship

...support , CNG Transport, Food Hubs, and Market Logistics

The Tinubu Media Force (TMF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the historic revenue distribution milestone achieved through the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). For August 2025, FAAC disbursed ₦2.225 trillion to the three tiers of government, marking the second consecutive month that allocations have surpassed ₦2 trillion. TMF described this as clear evidence of the President’s economic reforms, fiscal discipline, and bold measures to plug revenue leakages.

TMF, the largest progressive grassroots media structure with networks across 36 states, 109 senatorial districts, and 774 local governments nationwide, stressed that the record disbursement must translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians. The group emphasized that local governments, being the closest arm of government to the people, are uniquely positioned to channel these resources into projects that directly reduce the cost of living.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Abiola Oluwagbenga, TMF urged local governments to invest in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus transportation models as a sustainable solution to rising transport costs. According to Oluwagbenga, CNG buses would provide affordable, reliable, and eco-friendly transport alternatives while aligning with the Federal Government’s energy transition agenda under the Renewed Hope vision.

On food security, TMF advised local councils to establish food hubs and storage facilities across the country’s 774 local government areas. The group noted that such infrastructure would reduce post-harvest losses, stabilize supply chains, and keep food prices affordable for families. “Food hubs and storage systems at the grassroots will enhance preservation, minimize waste, and guarantee fair returns for both farmers and traders,” the statement read.

The organization further called for the creation of logistics and distribution services that can supply food efficiently into local government markets. By putting structured systems in place, TMF argued, councils would gain a measure of regulatory oversight over food supply and pricing, ensuring consistent access to safe and affordable produce in every community.

TMF also stressed the importance of entrepreneurship funding and talent discovery for young people, urging local governments to establish programs that nurture innovation and creativity at the grassroots. By creating youth enterprise funds, training hubs, and skill incubation centers, councils can empower the next generation with opportunities for self-reliance, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods.

Concluding, TMF urged local governments to craft policies in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the record FAAC allocation presents an unprecedented opportunity. “Investments in transport, food hubs, logistics, and youth enterprise will not only reduce costs for the average Nigerian but also lay the foundation for inclusive and sustainable development,” Oluwagbenga declared.

Yomi Durojaye

... As Commissioner Gifts Writing Materials, Skills Acquisition Gadgets to Pupils/Students

Lagos State Basic and Secondary Schools kicked off the 2025/2026 academic session with impressive attendance.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun led the Management Staff of the Ministry to monitor compliance with the State's directive on resumption across the State on Monday, September 15, 2025.

The monitoring exercise carried out simultaneously across various schools also assessed the schools' readiness for the new academic session.

Speaking to the media after the tour, the Commissioner commended students' and parents' enthusiasm and readiness for the new session. The commendable turnout of both teachers and students, he noted, was an indication that they are in sync with the policies and programmes of the government in the education sector.

He advised students to be mentally prepared for learning, be obedient, complete assignments on time, and maintain regular attendance to fully engage in teaching-learning activities.

During his visit to Dolphin Senior and Junior High School and Saint Paul's Angelica Nursery and Primary School, both on Lagos Island, the Commissioner announced that the upcoming term would run for 13 weeks, from September 15 to December 12, 2025. He also mentioned that a Universal Timetable would be developed and distributed to all schools soon.

He reaffirmed the State's commitment to policies that boost teaching quality and students' performance in internal and external examinations and equally advised teachers to adapt to and cover the curriculum within the stipulated period.

Weighing in on the newly adopted Computer-Based Test (CBT) format for the West African Schools Certificate Examination, Alli-Balogun encouraged teachers to prioritise computer literacy for students, emphasising that proficiency in computer use is key to improving their speed and efficiency.

He urged teachers to be diligent, proactive and committed to their duties, saying, "Let's work together to make this academic session remarkable, filled with discovery, growth, and achievement. I wish you all a successful and fulfilling session!"

The Commissioner, who distributed writing materials to students and pupils in the schools visited, also gifted Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, a standard oven/gas cooker and a sewing machine to support Home Economics and skills acquisition programmes.

Addressing teachers' challenges, he encouraged creativity and improvisation, adding that Principals should manage their school funds judiciously and complement the State Government's efforts where necessary.

The schools visited for compliance checks included Dolphin Senior and Junior High School, Saint Paul's Anglican Nursery and Primary School, Millennium Grammar School, and several others across various locations.

Lagos Assembly Roots for Financial Autonomy for Local Government Councillors in Lagos State

 Yomi Durojaye

The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to mandate the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to design a clear framework that will grant financial independence to local government legislatures across the state.

At Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, lawmakers unanimously backed a motion sponsored by Ganiu Sanni (Kosofe 1), stressing that financial autonomy is crucial for strengthening grassroots democracy and effective governance.

Speaker Obasa expressed concern over reports that some former council chairmen still control council finances through Council Managers and Treasurers, remaining signatories to accounts even after leaving office. He insisted such practices undermine transparency and must be addressed immediately.

“The independence of the legislative arm at the council level is non-negotiable if we truly want grassroots democracy to thrive,” Obasa said, urging stakeholders to act decisively.

Sanni, who moved the motion, reminded the House that the 1999 Constitution recognises the local government legislature as a vital arm of governance, with core responsibilities in law-making, oversight, and representation. He, however, noted that dependence on the executive arm for funding weakens the separation of powers and exposes councillors to undue influence.

Other lawmakers, including Solomon Bonu (Badagry 1), Desmond Elliot (Surulere 1), and Nureni Akinsanya, threw their weight behind the motion. While Bonu praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts at deepening grassroots democracy, Elliot argued that the Assembly’s reform agenda would be incomplete without granting autonomy to council legislatures. Akinsanya added that financial independence would enable councillors to carry out their duties responsibly and without interference.

Following the debate, the Assembly resolved to direct its Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development to immediately begin drafting a self-accounting law to give legislative arms of the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos the financial autonomy they need.

NUPENG accuses Dangote of sponsoring division among tanker drivers

AgegePulse Magazine

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has accused the Dangote Petroleum Refinery of sponsoring division within its Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch, resisting workers’ rights to unionisation, and deploying what it described as “falsehoods” to undermine the union.

NUPENG accuses Dangote of sponsoring division among tanker drivers

NUPENG also accused the company of using a “Greek gift” of free nationwide petroleum delivery to undermine the union and stifle competition.

In a statement signed by its National Executive President, Williams Akporeha, and the General Secretary, Afolabi Olawale, on Friday, the union dismissed a press release by the Dangote Group on Thursday as “an epitome of unconscionable capitalist falsehood aimed at hoodwinking Nigerians and crushing NUPENG.”

On Thursday, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery dismissed recent allegations made by the NUPENG that it banned tanker drivers from joining the union, insisting that claims of anti-labour practices, monopolistic behaviour, and planned fuel price hikes are “entirely unfounded”.

NUPENG, on Monday, shut down depots, protesting that the Dangote refinery did not allow the newly recruited drivers for its 4,000 compressed natural gas-powered trucks to join the union.

The shutdown of depots lasted till Tuesday, when it was suspended following an agreement reached by both parties at a meeting organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

However, on Thursday, NUPENG said Dangote was not ready to abide by the terms of the agreement.

But in a statement made available to our correspondent by the spokesman for the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, the company stated that the allegations that it was undermining union activities and threatening workers’ welfare through its new deployment of CNG-powered trucks were not true.

The Dangote refinery reiterated its full support for constitutionally protected labour rights, stating that employees are free to affiliate with any recognised trade union.

Reacting on Friday, NUPENG alleged that despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding on September 9, which it said acknowledged the company’s initial resistance to unionisation, the Dangote refinery on September 11, 2025, instructed drivers to remove NUPENG stickers from their trucks and replace them with those of the newly formed Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association, allegedly created by the management.

“Our members have stoutly resisted this development,” the statement said, adding that the refinery has been attempting to sponsor parallel structures within the PTD branch since 2023 by recruiting members who had lost union elections into the DTCDA.

NUPENG also linked some of the individuals supporting the company in the media to ongoing criminal cases.

The union further warned Nigerians against what it described as the “Greek gift” of free nationwide petroleum delivery by the Dangote refinery, alleging that the move was designed to stifle competition and force drivers into the company-controlled association.

“It is on record that Dangote Group does not allow unionisation in its cement and sugar plants across Nigeria”, NUPENG claimed, stressing that the same anti-union stance is now being extended to refinery workers.

The union called on Nigerians and the international community to resist any attempt to deny refinery workers and drivers their right to freedom of association and unionisation, warning that its leaders must not be harmed in the course of the struggle.

“Our solidarity remains constant, for the union makes us strong”, the statement concluded.

Sanwo-Olu Administration Flags Off 200-Metre Road Construction in Ifelodun LCDA

Yomi Durojaye

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots development with the official flag-off of the construction of a 200-metre stone-paved road on Sanni Street, Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Sanwo-Olu Administration Flags Off 200-Metre Road Construction in Ifelodun LCDA

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, who performed the flag-off on behalf of the State Government, described the project as “more than a road construction – it is a new chapter in the story of development for the Ifelodun community.”

While giving his keynote address, Dr. Agbaje explained that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has consistently prioritised inner roads that connect communities, reduce travel-time, and enhance the free flow of people and goods across Lagos. According to him, the project reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring even development across all 57 Local Government Areas and LCDAs in the State.

“This road may appear modest in length, but its impact will be enormous. For the people of Sanni Street, it will ease daily stress, improve accessibility, and enlarge economic opportunities. This is why Mr. Governor has made rural infrastructure a cardinal focus,” the Special Adviser said.

He further assured that the 200-metre road, which is expected to be completed within six months, would not only bring immediate relief to residents but also stimulate business activities and enhance the overall environmental outlook of the area. He called on community members to take ownership of the project, protect contractors during the construction process, and provide the cooperation needed for smooth delivery.

Also speaking at the event, the Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 1, Honourable Lukman Olumo, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for cascading the dividends of democracy to the grassroots and thanked Dr. Agbaje for ensuring a prompt flag-off once approval was secured from the Governor.

Hon. Olumo gave strong assurances to his constituents, pledging that he would continue to push for projects that would aid the growth and development of Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

“Every genuine need of my constituency that advances our community will be taken to the State, and I will not rest until it is delivered,” he assured.

In his technical presentation, representative of the construction company, JIBC Engineering Nigeria Limited, Engineer Seun Orekomaya, disclosed that the road project is designed as a stone-paved carriageway with covered drainage that doubles as pedestrian walkways, as well as solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and security. He added that the company will deliberately partner with local artisans and skilled-workers in the area as a way of empowering residents economically during the construction period.

Beyond the flag-off, the event also featured an inspiring empowerment initiative. Cash grants were presented to youths in the community who had successfully completed a summer training programme facilitated by Hon. Lukman Olumo. The grants were personally handed over to the beneficiaries by Dr. Agbaje, who noted that youth empowerment remains an integral part of sustainable development.

He remarked that while infrastructure provides the physical framework for development, empowering young people provides the human capital required to sustain progress.

The event was well-attended by political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents who trooped out in large numbers to witness what many described as a long-awaited relief for Sanni Street.

Among the dignitaries present were the APC Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Honourable Babatunde Aderemi Olalekan; former Executive Secretary, Ifelodun LCDA, Honourable Adigun Wahab; and the CDC Chairman, Ifelodun LCDA, Alhaji Idowu Bolaji Jimoh, alongside many other notable leaders and stakeholders.

With the flag-off, the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu has once again demonstrated its commitment to matching words with action, proving that development is not just a promise but a reality that residents can see, feel, and experience in their everyday lives.

FG unveils new curriculum for primary, secondary, and technical schools in Nigeria

Habeeb Durojaye

The Federal Government has announced the completion of a comprehensive review of the national curriculum for basic, senior secondary, and technical education.

FG unveils new curriculum for primary, secondary, and technical schools in Nigeria

The new framework is designed to reduce content overload, improve learning outcomes, and ensure Nigerian students are equipped with skills relevant to today’s global demands.

According to a press statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa CON, by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad.

Professor Ahmad explained that the review was carried out in collaboration with key agencies, including the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Details of the revised curriculum

According to Professor Ahmad, the curriculum adjustment is not only about streamlining the number of subjects but also enhancing the quality of learning materials

Primary 1–3 pupils will now take between 9 and 10 subjects.

Primary 4–6 pupils will be required to take 10 to 12 subjects.

Junior Secondary School students will take 12 to 14 subjects.

Senior Secondary School students will take 8 to 9 subjects.

Technical school students will take 9 to 11 subjects.

“The review process was not only about streamlining subjects but also about improving content to allow for deeper learning,” Ahmad said

She stressed that the aim of the revision is to reduce overload and create more learning time, adding that the government is determined to deliver education that is both practical and future ready.

Commitment to implementation

The Ministry stated that the revised curricula will be implemented nationwide with close monitoring to ensure effective adoption and smooth transition in schools.

The statement noted that the Federal Ministry of Education commends all stakeholders for their commitment and teamwork in the review process, which has produced a stronger, future-focused curriculum for Nigerian learners.

It further assured the public that the revised curricula will be implemented with strict monitoring to guarantee effective adoption and a smooth transition in schools nationwide.

What you should know

Curriculum reviews in Nigeria are long overdue. The secondary school curriculum being used now was introduced in 2011 and had remained static until now. In 2024 former Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed there were plans announced for new secondary school curriculum to be implemented by September of that year, noting that the previous review had been 12 years earlier.

Since then these series of reform efforts has been made. In January 2025, Nairametrics reported that the government had already updated the basic education curriculum by introducing 15 new trades, bringing areas like plumbing, event management, digital literacy, solar installation, garment making, and agriculture into classrooms starting January 2025

Discussions at the National Council of Education in February 2025 saw the Minister of Education propose a shift from the traditional 9-3-4 system to a 12-year basic education model, arguing that it would provide a more continuous, cohesive learning experience and better align Nigeria with global standards.

However, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) dismissed the plan, saying the real problem is poor funding, not the structure. NUT President Audu Amba stressed that without adequate financing, issues like poor infrastructure, lack of materials, and frequent strikes will persist, regardless of whether the system is 6-3-3-4, 9-3-3, or 12-4.

Open Letter To Chairmen, Agege LGA, Orile Agege LCDA

OPEN LETTER TO THE CHAIRMEN OF AGEGE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND ORILE-AGEGE LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA

Dear Honourable Chairmen,

Warmest congratulations on your election. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our communities, and I look forward to working with you to build a brighter future for the people of Agege and Orile-Agege.

Open Letter To Chairmen, Agege LGA, Orile Agege LCDA

As a concerned citizen and founder of Bola Omodele Foundation (BOF) and the defunct Youth Independent Coalition (YIC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering youth through vocational training and supporting the widows, widowers and less privileged with our philanthropy gestures, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight areas that require attention and propose impactful solutions. One of the most pressing issues facing our communities is unemployment, particularly among our youth. Many of our young people are struggling to find meaningful employment, and this has contributed to a range of social problems, including poverty, crime, and insecurity.

However, I believe that vocational training can be a powerful tool in addressing these challenges. Our experience with Bola Omodele Foundation (BOF) and Youth Independent Coalition (YIC) has shown remarkable success in this area. We have graduated over 500 students, with vocations like cake and pastries making, bead and wireworks training, tailoring, hairdressing, barbing, among others. This program by our tracking has a success rate of over 60%, with many graduates becoming self-employed and even employing others. I believe that this model can be replicated in our local governments, and that has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of our people.

The success of our vocational training program can be attributed to its practical approach, which equips students with the skills they need to succeed in their chosen vocations. By providing hands-on training and mentorship, we have been able to empower our students to become confident and self-reliant individuals. I believe that this approach can be replicated in our local governments, and that can have a lasting impact on the lives of our people.

In light of this, I recommend establishing standard vocational training centers in each Ward of Agege and Orile-Agege. These centers can offer a range of courses, in addition to what I listed above, bricklaying, welding, tilling, painting, electrician, plumbing, and motor mechanic training (rewire, mechanic, panel beater, and spray painter). By providing our youth with these skills, we will empower them to become self-employed and contribute to the economic development of our communities and the tax pool.

The benefits of this approach are numerous. By equipping our youth with vocational skills, we will provide our youth with the skills they need to succeed, reduce unemployment and poverty, and improve our community's image. We will also foster entrepreneurship and innovation, and create a culture of self-reliance and hard work. Furthermore, by providing our people with the skills they need to succeed, we will reduce the prevalence of social vices and crime, and create a safer and more prosperous community for all.

I am confident that if these vocational training centers are set up across the length and breadth of Agege and Orile-Agege, we will experience a turnaround in the life of our people within the shortest possible time. Once this is implemented, it will be easy to isolate those who are not ready to commit to change and deal with them decisively.

The Renew Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is yielding expected results and Lagos State is experiencing a major transformation with various mega projects, both in public and private sector springing up all across the State and I believe there is no better way and time to position our people in harnessing this huge opportunities.

I look forward to your implementation of this initiatives and working together to make Agege and Orile-Agege thrive. I believe that together, we can build a brighter future for our communities, and create opportunities for our people to succeed. Let us work together to empower our youth, reduce unemployment, and improve the lives of our people.

Thanks!

Yours Sincerely,

A soldier of the Nigerian Army has been shot dead by a mobile police inspector while intercepting a truck suspected to be conveying solid minerals from an illegal mining site in Futuk, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Soldier shot dead by police inspector in Bauchi over illegal mining truck

Zagazola Makama learnt that the incident occurred on Aug. 25 at about 7:50 p.m. when troops of 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, stopped a truck with registration number Gombe 676 BLG at a checkpoint in Futuk village.

The truck driver was said to have refused to halt at the checkpoint, forcing the Guard Commander, Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Ali Haruna, to pursue the vehicle with his men on motorbikes until they intercepted it.

However, on halting the truck, a mobile police officer identified as Inspector Yusuf Ibrahim allegedly disembarked and opened fire on the Guard Commander, hitting him in the stomach.

The soldiers immediately overpowered the policeman and disarmed him, while the injured officer was rushed to the Gombe Specialist Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He later died from the gunshot wound.

Sources further disclosed that the truck driver escaped from the scene in the chaos that followed the shooting.

Preliminary findings revealed that the truck was conveying solid minerals suspected to have been extracted illegally from Yalo community, also in Alkaleri LGA. The police inspector was believed to have been on illegal escort duty for the truck.

“The reasons behind the refusal of the vehicle to stop at the checkpoint, the decision of a trained police officer to open fire on soldiers after interception, and the escape of the driver remain highly suspicious. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the incident,” the sources stated.

The sources added that the involvement of security personnel in illegal mining operations remained a disturbing trend, stressing that the incident spotlight  the need for urgent and independent investigations to address compromises within the security system.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police has interfaced with the Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. U.J. Simon, to calm tensions and ensure proper handling of the case.

Zagazola learnt that the remains of the slain officer have been deposited at the hospital morgue while arrangements are ongoing for his burial in line with military tradition.

The suspect, Inspector Ibrahim, is currently in army custody, while the intercepted truck has been impounded for further investigation.

“Lagos Africa’s Foremost Investment Destination,” Speaker Obasa Declares

Yomi Durojaye

With a 20-million-strong population, $260 billion GDP, and status as West Africa’s maritime gateway, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa, has once again declared Lagos as Africa’s premium business destination.

“Lagos Africa’s Foremost Investment Destination,” Speaker Obasa Declares

The Speaker reaffirmed this stance when he hosted a high-profile delegation from China’s Guangxi Province, led by Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi People’s Congress, on Monday at the Assembly complex.

While hailing the visit as a ‘watershed moment’ for cross-continental collaboration, Speaker Obasa lauded the delegation’s expression of interest in deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and China, with Lagos as a focal point – saying it underscores the state’s growing geopolitical clout as Africa’s fifth-largest economy and a hub of innovation, commerce, and cultural dynamism.

He said, “Lagos is more than a city – it is a vision of progress. Lagos is the best place to invest in Africa because we have the population and the enabling laws for ease of doing business. Our economy is huge and vibrant, one of the biggest in Africa. Whatever you invest here, you will recoup your investment. In the area of tourism, we are still expanding, and every idea is welcome to make us harness our potential.”

Further, he declared the state’s readiness to welcome investments in infrastructure, citing the existing collaboration between Lagos and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in the construction and operation of the Red and Blue Rail lines.

The proposed engagement with Guangxi Province, the Speaker said, unlocks doors for mutual growth in trade, technology, and cultural exchange. Therefore, he continued, “Our Assembly is committed to crafting legislative frameworks that foster sustainable development and global partnerships, and collaborating in the area of legislation and exchange of ideas for good governance.

“Lawmaking is the bedrock of progress. We will ensure our statutes align with global best practices to secure win-win outcomes for Lagos and our partners.”

Earlier, Xiaoqin had described the visit as “a foundation for enduring friendship,” with plans for follow-up technical exchanges. He described Lagos as a “vibrant economic ecosystem” and said that it shares maritime advantages with Guangxi that could be leveraged to grow tourism. “We are looking forward to enhancing collaboration in the area of trade, economy, and tourism. We hope you will provide more care for the Chinese citizens in Lagos,” he said.

Indeed, Guangxi, a southern Chinese region bordering Vietnam and famed for its ASEAN trade corridors, shares synergies with Lagos in port logistics, agriculture, and tourism. Guangxi’s interest signals China’s broader strategy to expand its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) footprint in Nigeria, with Lagos positioned as a linchpin.

For Obasa, the engagement is both diplomatic and symbolic: a reaffirmation of Lagos’s legislative maturity and its readiness to shape Africa’s 21st-century narrative.

AN OPEN LETTER OF CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW ACTING CHAIRMAN, HON. ABDUL-GANIYY VINOD OBASA

Yomi Durojaye

Dear Hon. Abdul-Ganiyy Vinod Obasa,

First and foremost, accept my hearty congratulations on your emergence as the Acting Chairman of our beloved Agege Local Government. Some may say “it is politics as usual,” but I personally see in it a divine design and a youthful chance to prove that our generation is not only capable of shouting from the sidelines but of truly sitting at the table of governance.

Permit me to confess: I did not congratulate you when you assumed office as Vice-Chairman. Perhaps, in my heart, I knew that the political script would one day flip the way it just did. But why should I be angry? Politics is a game of chess, not checkers. And truth be told, one of my greatest agitations as a youth of Agege has always been: Let the elders give the youths a chance! Now, here we are, you, a vibrant, educated young man, born into politics, carrying not only the name but also the blood of leadership.

Honourable sir, allow me as a bonafide and proud resident of Agege to place before you some thoughts, not criticisms, not complaints, but candles of light you may carry along the corridors of governance:

1. THE STREETS MUST SHINE AGAIN.

Some of our streets have lights, some don’t. Some lights work, some don’t. And the saddest part is; right in front of the local government secretariat, darkness has become a silent companion, allowing bad elements to harass and even harm our people. Just recently, a precious life was lost. Sir, Agege deserves light, not only as a metaphor for development, but literally. Please, let us not only “shine our eyes” but “shine our streets.”

2. UNITE OUR FATHERS AND MOTHERS IN POLITICS.

Agege has many elders who once laboured, sacrificed, and gave their all for the love of Agege and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sadly, political caucuses of the past administration forced many into silence, fear, or the wilderness of irrelevance. Now, some are coming back timidly to encourage you, but many still live with the trauma of rejection. Kindly extend the olive branch, heal these wounds. Unite them again. A united family always drives development faster than a fragmented one.

3. GIVE THE LEGISLATURE THEIR SPACE.

Your father, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has led the Lagos State House of Assembly for many years with dignity and earned respect across Nigeria. Let the legislators in Agege also breathe, legislate, and critique. Don’t overshadow them; don’t threaten them. Even if they are your father’s loyalists, let them prove their own capacity. Criticism, sometimes, is like bitter leaf, it may taste harsh, but it strengthens the body.

4. PUT YOUTHS AT THE FRONTLINE.

I say this not only as a youth, but as a beggar in the court of justice, please, empower our youths first. Yes, empower elders too; they deserve respect. But let the focus tilt more toward us, the young ones, who are still struggling to find our feet. Give us chances not only in politics but in sports, skills, and education. As mentioned earlier by a brother, Azeez Nurudeen Lekan, that, you’ve done well with football competitions, but sir, we want Agege Township Stadium to become not just a football field but a real arena of pride. Let our youth centres be rebranded with modern tools so that our boys and girls can compete globally, not just locally.

5. RESPECT ELDERS, BUT FEAR NOT.

Around you are men and women old enough to be your parents, some loyalists of your father, some mere opportunists, and, of course, some hidden enemies. Respect them, but don’t fear them. Listen, but don’t allow yourself to be dictated to. You carry a great name, but more importantly, you carry your own destiny. Be bold, be wise, and let the Obasa legacy shine in you.

6. EDUCATION MUST NOT BE SILENT.

From primary schools to secondary schools in Agege, let your works be felt. Let children sit in classrooms that make learning attractive, not exhausting. The future of Agege lies more in classrooms than in council offices.

7. REFORM THE CDAs AND CDCs.

Once upon a time, our CDAs and CDCs served noble purposes. Now, many have been politically hijacked and reduced to tools of manipulation. Can we not draw a line? Can we not insist that political office holders should stay off these platforms? If you succeed here, history will mark your name in golden ink.

Permit me one little mischief before I close: many are praising Hon. Johnson Babatunde of Orile-Agege as “Mr. Project.” But let us not forget that behind every good Johnson, there was always a gallant Obasa. Sir, emulate the good ones, discard the disappointing ones, and outshine them all with your own distinct footprints.

Finally, I pray Almighty God to guide you, protect you, and strengthen you in this new journey. May your tenure be a blessing to the people of Agege, may your father’s wisdom flow through your veins, and may the name Obasa in your hands remain a banner of pride, not of controversy.

Congratulations once again, Acting Chairman. The ball is in your court. Please, don’t just dribble, score the goals!

✍️Yours sincerely,

RAHMON AKEEM AJAYI

Tinubu Turns Foreign Visits into Lifelines: Partnerships to Cut Costs, Create Jobs, and Restore Confidence

By Gbenga Abiola, National Coordinator, Tinubu Media Force (TMF)

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s roadmap for Nigeria’s growth has proven to be truly phenomenal, with every official trip abroad yielding unprecedented benefits for the nation’s economy and its people. In line with the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto and the promises he made during the 2023 elections, the President has pursued a bold strategy of economic diplomacy, using each international engagement to attract investment, strengthen trade partnerships, and open new opportunities for Nigerians. His approach has been focused on easing the economic burden on households, addressing the challenges of food security, job creation, and infrastructure, while positioning Nigeria as a credible global player and the economic powerhouse of Africa.

President Tinubu’s international engagements are delivering visible dividends for Nigerians, with every visit abroad translating into fresh economic opportunities. From agriculture in Brazil to technology in Japan, and investment pledges from India to aviation breakthroughs in the United Arab Emirates, the President’s strategic diplomacy is easing pressure on the nation’s economy while creating pathways for long-term growth. According to the Tinubu Media Force (TMF), these visits are not ceremonial but carefully structured to bring immediate and long-lasting relief to Nigerian households.

The Brazil trip has been particularly significant. Tinubu successfully revived the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Agreement, unlocking partnerships that will introduce mechanized farming and agro-industrial parks across Nigeria. For millions of Nigerians struggling with rising food prices, the impact could be transformative. With Brazil’s expertise in large-scale agriculture and livestock management, local production of rice, maize, and other staples is expected to rise, easing dependence on costly imports. Analysts project that the scheme could directly create over 100,000 jobs and five million indirect opportunities while helping to bring down the cost of food that has stretched household budgets in recent years. TMF stresses that this breakthrough is one of the clearest signs yet that the administration’s foreign policy is directly tackling the cost-of-living crisis.

Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts focus to Asia, where his visit to Japan reinforced Nigeria’s drive towards industrial growth and technology transfer. Japan pledged support in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and automobile assembly. For Nigerians, this could mean more stable electricity in the future, the growth of smart cities, and affordable locally assembled cars. Vocational training agreements reached in Tokyo are also aimed at equipping Nigeria’s youth, who make up more than 60 percent of the population, with skills in engineering and advanced manufacturing. The Tinubu Media Force emphasizes that these youth-focused agreements are vital to creating a generation of globally competitive Nigerian professionals.

At the G20 Summit in India, Tinubu secured billions of dollars in infrastructure and energy pledges. In the United Arab Emirates, strategic negotiations reopened aviation corridors and deepened cooperation in oil and gas. Together, these efforts have helped attract over $5 billion in foreign direct investment within two years, restoring investor confidence and strengthening Nigeria’s economic outlook. TMF underscores that these achievements show the world’s renewed confidence in Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership, a confidence that is steadily translating into tangible economic benefits for ordinary citizens.

The effects on ordinary Nigerians are clear. Agro-industrial development from Brazil will help curb food inflation. Japanese investments will create skilled jobs and reduce import bills on vehicles. Aviation deals with Brazil and the United Arab Emirates promise to ease travel costs for businesspeople and traders. Each initiative contributes to reducing household expenses, boosting incomes, and expanding opportunities for young people.

Beyond the numbers, Tinubu’s approach has repositioned Nigeria’s global image. By engaging both established powers like Japan and Brazil and emerging markets like India, the country is increasingly seen as a credible partner rather than a passive player. This renewed image enhances Nigeria’s bargaining power in international forums and ensures its voice is heard in shaping global economic policy.

As Nigeria continues to navigate tough domestic reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, the President’s international drive offers a much-needed cushion. By securing partnerships that promise cheaper food, better jobs, improved power supply, and stronger industries, Tinubu is laying the foundation for the kind of inclusive prosperity that will make present sacrifices worthwhile. For millions of families facing economic pressure, these gains provide renewed hope that Nigeria’s future is firmly tied to progress and opportunity.
