How a Retired Soldier Asked us to kill his son — FCT CP, Tunji Disu

Eniola Ajose

A retired soldier once stormed into my office, demanding that we kill his son, a university student arrested for cultism. His rage was volcanic.

But the next day, he returned with food, asking after his son. When I joked, “So you don’t want us to kill him again?” his eyes revealed the truth: anger is often the flipside of helpless love.

📌 Years later, I met his son again—now educated, married, and changed. Not because he was jailed, but because his father eventually chose support over abandonment.

---

💬 Many parents bring their children to us, demanding we “discipline” them:

❌ “Detain him.”

❌ “Torture him.”

As if punishment alone can fix a broken path.

One father even begged us to keep his drug-addicted son in custody for weeks. But cells are not rehabilitation centres. If something went wrong, who would he blame? The police.

---

⚠️ The issue isn’t a lack of discipline—it’s a lack of presence. Parents now hand their duties to teachers, police, and social workers, but no institution can replace a parent’s guidance.

📢 If your child commits a crime, come to us—we will help. But don’t surrender your role as a parent.

🔹 We enforce laws, but we cannot replace love.

🔹 We investigate crimes, but we cannot teach values.

---

🚨 The police cannot replace your voice.

🚨 Our cells are not classrooms; handcuffs are not parenting tools.

💡 Our parents weren’t perfect, but they owned their role as first teachers. Today’s parents must do the same—not with harshness, but with wisdom and love.

✅ Be present. Listen. Correct. Love.

Story written some days ago

HOW TO START CHICKEN FARMING?

 By Ayodele Ifasakin

The process of growing chickens for a variety of purposes, including meat production and egg laying, is referred to as "chicken farming," also known as "poultry farming."

HOW TO START CHICKEN FARMING?

From hatching until market ready or egg production, a chicken's lifespan must be carefully managed at a chicken farm. It necessitates an expertise of marketing tactics, housing, nutrition, and health management. Depending on the size and objectives of the enterprise, different farming systems, such as free-range, intensive, or organic, might be adopted.

◾️Chicken farming systems

It's crucial to comprehend the various farming systems offered before starting a chicken farming enterprise. These are the top three types:

Free-range farming: In this method, chickens are allowed to forage naturally and exercise outdoors without restriction. To safeguard the birds from predators and bad weather, sufficient area, fence, and shelter are needed.

Intensive farming: Chickens are raised in cramped conditions, usually indoors, in intensive systems such as battery cage system and slatted floor system. With regulated settings, automated feeding systems, and customized housing, these systems put a strong emphasis on increasing output efficiency.

Organic farming: Organic poultry production adheres to stringent regulations that forbid the use of antibiotics, hormones, and artificial chemicals. Natural feed, access to outdoor spaces, and overall animal wellbeing are stressed.

◾️Poultry breeds suitable for South Africa

The success of your chicken farming enterprise depends on your choice of poultry breed. Think about things like local availability, market demand, climate, and manufacturing objectives. Popular breeds of chicken that are appropriate for South Africa include:

Breeds designed specifically for the production of meat, such as broilers, grow quickly and convert feed into meat effectively.

Breeds of layers are renowned for having a high egg production rate. They are suitable for businesses that produce eggs.

Dual-purpose breeds: These varieties can produce both meat and eggs, giving farmers who want to diversify their businesses more flexibility.

◾️Identifying goals and objectives

Before starting your chicken farming business, clearly define your goals and objectives. Determine if you aim to focus on meat production, egg production, or both. Consider factors such as target markets, production volume, and growth projections.

◾️Conducting market research

Thorough market research is essential to understand the demand for poultry products in your target area. Analyze market trends, consumer preferences, and competition. Identify potential customers, such as retailers, wholesalers, or direct consumers, and assess their requirements.

◾️Financial considerations and budgeting

Create a comprehensive financial plan for your chicken farming business. Consider the costs involved in acquiring land, constructing housing and infrastructure, purchasing equipment, procuring chicks or hatching eggs, feed expenses, labor, veterinary services, and marketing. Develop a budget that accounts for both startup costs and ongoing operational expenses.

Additionally, explore potential sources of funding, such as loans, grants, or government programs, to support your venture.

Beginners can build a strong basis for their chicken farming enterprise in South Africa by comprehending the fundamentals of chicken farming systems, choosing suitable poultry breeds, and creating a sound business plan. These first actions lay the groundwork for later decisions about infrastructure, tools, and management techniques.

◾️Setting Up Your Chicken Farm

Choosing a suitable site: The success of your poultry farm depends on where you decide to locate it. Think about the following elements:

Accessibility: Pick a site that is convenient for the transit of supplies, inputs, and outputs. Costs are kept to a minimum and effective logistics are ensured.

1/2

Market proximity is important since it has an impact on shipping costs and the freshness of your items. It might present better market chances to be near distribution centers or urban areas.

Resources are accessible: Make sure that you have access to necessities like water, electricity, and feed ingredients. Water supply that is adequate and dependable is crucial for chicken production.

Consider the local climate and weather while evaluating environmental issues. The health and productivity of your chickens might be impacted by extreme temperatures, humidity, or recurrent disease outbreaks.

◾️Building infrastructure and housing

To create a comfortable environment for your chickens, it is essential to build sufficient infrastructure and housing. Think about the following elements:

Designing and constructing suitable chicken house in accordance with the farming method (free-range, intensive, or organic) is important. To encourage wholesome growth and production, make sure there is enough room, suitable ventilation, and insulation.

Security and safety: Take precautions to keep your chickens safe from predators, theft, and the spread of disease. To reduce dangers, put up fencing, protect your locks, and think about biosecurity procedures.

Areas for nesting and roosting: Give hens cozy boxes in which to lay their eggs. Install platforms or roosting poles for the chickens to sit on and relax.

To properly manage chicken dung, create a waste management system. If applicable, think about composting it or using it as agricultural fertilizer.

◾️Procuring equipment and supplies

Equip your chicken farm with the necessary tools and supplies for smooth operations. Some essential equipment and supplies include:

Feeding and watering systems: Install appropriate feeders and waterers to ensure easy access to feed and water for your chickens. Choose equipment that is suitable for your chosen farming system.

Lighting and heating equipment: Provide adequate lighting for the desired photoperiod (daylight hours) to stimulate growth and reproduction. In colder climates, consider heating equipment to maintain optimal temperature conditions.

Handling and processing equipment: Depending on your business goals, invest in equipment such as egg incubators, egg graders, brooders, and slaughter equipment.

Feed and supplements: Identify reputable suppliers of quality poultry feed and supplements. Ensure a reliable and consistent supply to meet the nutritional needs of your chickens.

◾️Ensuring biosecurity measures

To stop and stop the spread of diseases on your hen farm, biosecurity measures are crucial. Think about the following techniques:

Regulated access: Keep only authorized people on your farm. Implement biosecurity procedures for clients and staff, including cleaning and protective gear.

Disease prevention: Follow the immunization regimens advised by veterinarians and practice excellent cleanliness to prevent disease. To stop the spread of disease, quarantine fresh birds before integrating them into existing flocks.

Pest and predator control: Controlling pests and predators is essential if you want to prevent diseases from spreading to your flock of hens. Use effective pest control techniques and secure your chicken coop to keep out intruders.

Sanitation and hygiene: Keep the farm's surroundings tidy and hygienic. To reduce the danger of disease, regularly clean and disinfect your property, your equipment, and other areas.

By carefully selecting the location, constructing suitable infrastructure, procuring necessary equipment and supplies, and implementing biosecurity measures, you can establish a well-prepared and protected chicken farm. These steps contribute to the health, safety, and productivity of your chickens, ensuring a strong foundation for your business.

Incredible: How IKEDC Turned Agege Residents Into Money Making Machine

…Houses Get Astronomical 120% Monthly Bill

…They’re Rich Enough To Pay The Bill - IKEDC

The news of Nigeria’s power distribution companies dishing out astronomical power bills to consumers across the country cannot be overemphasized. Obviously, it is no longer news to the populace, as this singular action is synonymous with the discos, leaving Nigerians without prepaid power meter to pay through their noses for power they do not consume.

Since the privatization of the power sector, one of the beneficiaries, Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, IKEDC has always been alleged to be more interested in milking its consumers of their hard earned money without equating it with services expected of them.

According to credible information at our disposal, power consumers in Agege are not happy with IKEDC. It was gathered that the disco has intentionally decided to deprive the residents prepaid meter as being agitated for by the people who feel cheated on a monthly basis by IKEDC.

Agegepulse learnt that the residents of Adedosu Street, off Akilo Road, Agege were greeted with a New Year shock when they were served their December 2018 bill by the IKEDC. It was gathered that the bill came with the 120% increment trend that has been witnessed continuously for months despite constant complaints to IKEDC.

Accordingly to a resident of Adedosu Street who claimed anonymity, she said IKEDC have turned their street to money making machine, where the average monthly billing for each building of face me and face apartments is ranging from N25,000 to N50,000.00 respectively. (i.e single room pays N6,000-N7,000.00 monthly)

Though, she confirmed the relatively constant availability of power supply, yet she claimed that prepaid meter would help them to regulate the power usage through appropriate billing. She alleged that residents have constantly lodged complaints on this crazy billing to IKEDC but would not yield to their plight.

“We have always complained and requested for prepaid meter but the IKEDC have always turned dumb ear. We are very sure that they (IKEDC) are doing this intentionally to be reaping us of our hard earned money through skyrocket estimated billing”. She alleged.

Another resident who resides on the same street shared his own sad experience. He said; "I am occupying a 2-bedroom flat and I receive nothing less than N25,000 on a monthly estimated billing."I have invited them to my resident on several occasions to check if my electrical appliances would consume power to the tune of the N25,000 estimated bill they serve me monthly but they didn’t care how you feel about it.”

He also alleged the IKEDC of denying the street prepaid meter due to illegal estimated billing that increases about 120% monthly, sighting that neighbouring streets have received their prepaid meters months ago leaving Adedosu Street without prepaid meter because of the extortion by Ikeja Electric staff.

“Other members of the community and I have made several efforts to get prepaid meter from IKEDC but they declined our requests simply because of the corrupt practices they are perpetrating through the exorbitant and extorting estimated billing they are serving us monthly.” The concerned resident regretted.

“When we complained to IKEDC staff that come to disconnect peoples’ light about this extortion, their response was that we are rich enough to pay the bills. That is how serious the matter is.” Another resident alleged.

“The most pathetic part of the story here that, according to residents, staff of IKEDC hurriedly disconnect customers a week after serving them a bill irrespectively of reasons behind their inability to pay immediately.”

When Agegepulse contacted IKEDC to react to the allegations through their customer careline, we were told that the affected customers should get in touch with the Business Unit Department in Oregun, Alausa for review of the estimated billing.

Lagos State Government and other stakeholders to interfere in this corrupt practice from IKEDC before residents began to take laws into their own hands.

Gen Alkali: How Army recovered officer’s body from abandoned well

The remains of the missing Senior Army officer, Major General Idris Alkali(rtd) has been found by a team of the Nigerian Army on Search and Rescue Operation. This is coming after the officer had been declared missing since September 2018.

The remains of the officer was found in an abandoned well in a bush at Guchwet village in Shen Du District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Garrison Commander 3 Division, Rukuba Barrack who also doubles as the Commander of the Search and Rescue Operation, Brigadier General Umar Mohammed, on Wednesday said one of the suspects who took part in the relocation of the corpse was declared wanted and voluntarily submitted self to the Police and led the Joint Team of Army and Police on Tuesday to the well site.

Mohammed said, “You know General Idris Alkali was declared missing on the 3rd of September, 2018, since after that, the Nigerian Army gave us 3 tasks, one was for us to find General Alkali dead or alive, two, to find his vehicle which was a Toyota Corolla, and number three, if anything happened to him, to find those who are responsible for anything that happened to him so that they can be prosecuted.

“On 29 September, 2019 we recovered his vehicle and his personal effects were seen, also a shallow grave was discovered in which General Alkali was initially buried.

“Some people were declared wanted, some have submitted themselves voluntarily and some people who took part in the relocation brought us to where he was relocated.

“And base on that, he was relocated to an abandoned well which is behind me.

“We came in this morning, we drained the water and we were able to salvage the body which is the remains of General Alkali. This means the first two aspects of the tasked have been accomplished”, he explained.

“The 3rd phase is the prosecution of all those who took part in this heinous act.

“Let me tell you that nobody, no matter how connected the person is, whoever is involved in this heinous act will go unpunished”, he stressed.

“For those who did not submit themselves, let me tell them that we are on their trail.

The remains of the officer was kept inside a body-bag and was shown to journalist under strict directives, and were not allowed to snap any pictures.

Also a military parade was carried out at the well site in honour of the deceased before he was taken inside a police ambulance.

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have announced the arrest twenty-one suspects in connection to the cult clash that occurred at the Somolu-Bariga end of Lagos Mainland, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, the incident occurred after Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Small Jpron and one Solomon, were killed at a political gathering organised by Hon. Ademorin Kuye at Home Touch, situated at No. 228, Ikorodu Road by Obanikoro Way.
Oti stated that the deceased persons, who had involved in several cult clashes, were on the wanted list of the police for leading several cult fights in the Shomolu, Bariga, Fadeyi and Ojuelegba areas of the state.
He said the deceased were trailed to the gathering by a rival cult group who invaded the arena and began to attack people. “Regrettably, the host of the political meeting, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, did not inform the police of his intention to host his supporters,” Oti said.
He continued that; “21 persons have so far been arrested in connection with the case and are currently been questioned by homicide detectives of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, Yaba. Also invited to Panti, is the politician, Hon. Ademorin Kuye.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Imohimi Edgal has ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators of this dastardly act, vowing that the Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the authors of the crime are prosecuted.
“He once again requests politicians to inform the police before gathering in public places. He notes that until the INEC gives the go-ahead, political campaign at this time is illegal and those in breach of the electoral law will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
Meanwhile, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Nigerian army have been mobilized to the scene to prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
