BREAKING: ABUJA COURT MOVES TO STOP NEW TAX LAWS AHEAD OF 2026 ROLLOUT

 Eniola Ajose

Opposition to Nigeria’s new tax regime escalated on Tuesday as an Abuja High Court commenced hearing a suit seeking to stop the implementation of the tax laws scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.

The suit was instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of the African Initiative Against Abuse of Public Trust against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the National Assembly.

The claimant is challenging alleged discrepancies in the newly enacted tax laws and has urged the court to suspend their implementation pending the determination of the substantive suit.

In a motion ex parte, the applicant is seeking an interim injunction restraining the Federal Government, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the National Assembly, and all relevant agencies from implementing, executing, or enforcing provisions of the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025.

The case adds a new legal dimension to the growing national debate over Nigeria’s tax reforms ahead of the 2026 implementation timeline.

LSACA moves to curb stigmatization of HIV patients -AgegePulse Magazine

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lagos AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), Dr. Oluseyi Temowo has called on Lagosians to stop stigmatization of HIV infected persons.

Speaking at a press briefing to mark Y2017 World AIDS Day,  Dr. Temowo said this year’s theme “Right to Health: Making it happen” was a call on all policymakers, individuals and everyone within the society to respect the rights of every citizen irrespective of their health status.

He emphasised the need for policy implementation to focus on making the issue of stigmatisation a thing of the past.

World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1st to remember those that had died of the scourge, those living with it and to take stock of various interventions as well as chart ways of ending it.

He said that LSACA will mark the Y2017 World AIDS Day with a “Walk for HIV” campaign and HIV Tests in some markets in the State, in continuation of HIV tests earlier conducted among members of some organisations including NURTW with the objective of achieving the set target of eradicating the virus in Lagos State by 2030, using the 90–90–90 initiative.

The initiative is focused at ensuring that 90 percent of people living with HIV ascertain their status, 90 percent of those that test positive access anti-retroviral treatment and 90 percent of those on anti-retroviral treatment have suppressed viral load.
