Gov. Ambode Deserves Re-election, He's Built A Smart Lagos - Ex-House Leader, Hon. Aroko

...Says Ambode Could Be Nigeria's Messiah

Agege Pulse Magazine

Ex-leader of Agege Legislative Council, Hon.  Rasheed Osanyinpeju, popularly known as Aroko has rallied support for the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode ahead of 2019 election.

Aroko spoke on Thursday on Morning Delight, a talk-show programme on LTV 8, where he was a guest.

The former leader who is currently the Chairman, Agege Local Government Revenue Committee hailed Gov. Ambode describing him as 'Mr. Project', an achiever and principled democrat, adding that the governor was focused on bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.

He stressed that and Ambode must be encouraged to lead the state as long as the law permits.

He said, "In all ramifications, Gov. Ambode is a huge success.  Lagos has become a smart city. The state now leverage on new technologies to strengthen its social, physical and economic infrastructure. Everyday there are new developments in all sectors, be it transportation, power, housing, sports and what have you.

"The state since the days of the founding father of modern Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to be the ultimate reference point. It is my hope as a resident of Lagos that Ambode will continue his good work by seeking re-election to run the affairs of Lagos till 2023. I am equally seeing the possibility of an Ambode on the throne of Presidency come 2023. Just watch out!"

"I'm convinced that during his second term, his plan to make Lagosians enjoy 24 hours power will come to fruition. Just days back, we all recalled that he signed into law Lagos State Electric Power Reform Law.

"I think commendation should also go to the State House of Assembly under the leadership of Right Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa and the members including my able leader, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu for keying into the vision of Governor Ambode for the Lagos." Aroko asserted.

Police arrest Olohunwa, one other over Hamburger’s death

Agege Pulse Magazine

A suspected killer, Adeola Williams, 39, aka Ade Lawyer and his suspected accomplice, Rafiu Akanni Olohunwa have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Ade Lawyer, said to be responsible for the death of a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) member, Ganiyu Ayinla (a.k.a. Piero), on Lagos Island on January 23.

He was nabbed on Wednesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital. He was said to have confessed killing Rasaq Bello a.k.a. Hamburger, a union leader in Oshodi.

Olohunwa was the former NURTW Lagos State Council Chairman.

The police said Ade Lawyer had been on the wanted list for over five years following his involvement in killings in the Southwest.
Olorunwa was alleged to have contracted Ade Lawyer to kill NURTW Lagos Island Chairman Azeez Lawal (a.k.a. Kunle Poly).

Ade Lawyer, the police alleged, confessed that he was paid N500,000 with a promise of N1,000,0000 balance to execute the job.
However, he allegedly missed the target and killed Lawal’s personal assistant, Ayinla.
Police said Lawal escaped death but sustained bullet wounds.

Upon his arrest, the suspect was alleged to have confessed to the killing and that of others in the zone.
“He said Olohunwa refused to give them the N1, 000,000 balance because they killed the personal assistant, instead of the man he sent them to eliminate.

“Hence, Adeola Williams a.k.a. Ade Lawyer traced the driver of Olohunwa and seized his black Hyundai Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) from the driver. He called the owner that they would release his SUV after he paid them their N1 million balance.
“He said they needed to hide until tension subsided since two of his accomplices had been arrested by the police.
“He confessed that Olohunwa has been calling him to be very careful and that he should hide because his members have been arrested.

“He listed other victims he killed in the past to include Rasaq Bello a.k.a Hamburger, a union chairman in Oshodi, Babajide Dosumu aka Mados in Ebute Meta, Salawe in Ajah, Ganiyu Asaro and others in Badore where he said he sprayed bullets in their car and killed the five occupants.

“Olohunwa was arrested in Ebute Meta by IRT operatives. Efforts to arrest the remaining gang members are on,”” the police said.

Agege LGA Laments Untimely Death of 5yr Old Girl Killed By A Commercial Bus

...Vows To Construct Speed Breaker On Busy Roads

AgegePulse Magazine

Following the horrific demise of one 5yr old girl who was accidently killed by a commercial bus (danfo) driver on Sunday, officials of Agege Local Government Area have decried the ugly incident which almost caused pandemonium among the people and the danfo driver at Keke area of Agege.

Speaking to Agege Pulse on the incident, the executive chairman of Agege LGA, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola said it's an ugly incident which he and his cabinet found hard to accept when the news got to them.

"Our heart is with family of the innocent young soul whose life was untimely ejected in the fatal accident."

"The ugly news came to us as a rude shock. We have swung into action immediately to install peace in the area. We will continue to put necessary measures in place to prevent avoidable lost of lives in our community", Egunjobi reacted.

Agege Pulse learnt that the ugly incident happened on Sunday as a result of uncautious acceleration from the danfo driver around Abeokuta/Sobowale streets off Akilo Road, Agege.

According to residents,  Sobowale street is  dominated by schools children due to the presence of Private Schools in the area.

They revealed that they had lodged complained on countless occasions about the unguided actions of motorists who ply the busy streets on high speed but past governments have refused to give listening ears to their demands for speed breaker or Road bumps to checkmate the excesses but ended in futility.

What was on the lips of those who witnessed how the young girl was agonisingly knocked down by the onrushing danfo bus was that had government had done the needful after the construction of the road during ex-governor Fashola's reign, the ugly incident could have been averted.

However, management team of Agege LGA in separate remarks have promised the people that road bumps or speed breakers will be constructed on the busy roads with immediate effect.

Leader of Agege Legislative Arm, Hon. Kola Anigbajumo while speaking with the CDA Chairman of Keke, assured  them that their grievance will be discussed on the floor of the house and conveyed to the appropriate quarters to prevent future occurences.

Meanwhile, less than 24hours of the incident, Agege LGA approved the construction of speed breaker at Sobowale, Adejare and Abeokuta Roads of Keke Agege.

Agege Pulse learnt that about six speed breakers have been approved by the council boss, Egunjobi after receiving reports of the accident.

This was confirmed to Agege Pulse by the Supervisory Councillor on Works and Housing, Hon Sola Osolana.

Osolana said; "we went to the scene immediately we got the report and we held meetings with family of the deceased and the CDA of the area inside the palace of Baale of Keke, High Chief Liadi Idowu Ajagunna.

We told them of the directive of the Chairman that six speed breakers would be constructed at different location as approved by the Chairman." Osolana concluded.

Wizkid, Iwobi, Mikel, Ihenacho, others model New Super Eagles jerseys as Nike unveils kits ahead of World Cup

Agege Pulse Magazine

The new playing kits for the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles have been unveiled barely 126 days before the 2018 World Cup gets underway in Russia.

The unveiling was done in London on Wednesday where Nike used their official YouTube channel to serve the public a glimpse of the new Nigeria jersey designs for the Super Eagles’ Russia 2018 World Cup campaign.

The designs bring back the nostalgia patterned Adidas jersey the Super Eagles wore at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and their first World Cup in the United States of America that same year.

The away kit has the shirt with the predominantly light green background with bold white V-shaped patterns drawn on it.

The sleeves have white underneath black patterns. The shorts are plain white.

The home shirt is all-green, this one darker than usual.

While reviewing the designs at the unveiling in London, Mikel said: “I can see the players going crazy over this one.”

Ndidi also sounded excited, adding “This is cultural” in apparent reference to the patterned away kit.

“This is different, you know,” Iwobi added, while Iheanacho seemed happy with all the designs.

The Super Eagles will be appearing in their sixth World Cup in Russia after previous appearances at the USA 1994, France 1998, Korea/Japan 2002, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014.

Agege Pulse Magazine

Following the intervention of the Executive Chairman of Agege LGA, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi during an environmental tour on Aluminium Village, Agege, the Aluminium Profiles, Glass and Accessories Retailers Association of Nigeria (APGAR) embarks on emergency sanitation exercise to ensure cleaner working environment.

The development is coming after the directive of Lagos State Government instructing all markets across the state to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment through proper disposal of wastes.

APGAR under the leadership of Alhaji Biliaminu Oladimeji Olanite toured all the 14 zones in the village to ensure 100 percent compliance of the special environmental sanitation exercises.

Also, the association used the medium to sensitive members on the need to key into the Cleaner Lagos Initiative of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode's led administration urging them to eschew illegal or inadequate dumping of their refuses across the market.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday swore-in five new members of the State Executive Council with a charge on them to hit the ground running and offer only the best of services to the people.

Speaking at a brief swearing-in ceremony held at the Lagos State Executive Council Chambers in Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the new cabinet members were appointed based on their track record, expertise and experience, and as such they must immediately settle down in office and inject new ideas to reinvigorate and reenergize government machinery to the overall benefit of the people.

Addressing the appointees, Governor Ambode said their immediate mandate is to see to the completion of all on-going projects and activation of new ones to make life better and comfortable for the people.

“As you settle down to your new assignments, I demand nothing but the best from you. Your immediate task as you hit the ground running is to quickly bring yourself up to speed with the mandate of your MDA and key into the immediate priority for this year which is the completion of all on-going projects. This, however, does not preclude the initiation of new projects that are considered highly essential and critical to the general well-being of our people,” the Governor said.

Specifically, Governor Ambode said the appointees must be mindful of the fact that the greatest asset of his administration is the goodwill of the people which cuts across all segments of the society, saying that he remained committed to sustaining the goodwill by upholding the policy of inclusion and implementing programmes and projects which in turn would positively and directly impact on the livelihood of all residents.

The Governor said making Lagos work for all was a 24-hour job which required selfless service, hard work, dedication and an uncompromising focus on the improvement of lives of all residents, a development he said necessitated the vision of his administration from inception to build a clean, safe and prosperous State guided by the rule of law, as well as a globally competitive smart City.

According to him, “As simple as it sounds, this is a tough task but I am happy to state here that the job has been made uncomplicated because we have the best team working together to achieve this vision. Today, we are delighted to welcome on board the newly sworn-in members of the State Executive Council.

“You are joining a winning team of committed professionals and politicians who have been working round the clock for the past 32 months to make Lagos functional, efficient and a haven for business, tourism, entertainment and sports.”

He said the achievements so far recorded were massive but a lot still needed to be done to achieve the desired vision and moving the State forward on the path of sustainable growth, which was why the government was injecting new ideas with the appointments to reinvigorate government machinery.

Governor Ambode said as members of the Executive Council which is the highest policy making body of the State and also charged with the responsibility of implementing government programmes through the various MDAs, he expects the new appointees to bring their knowledge, expertise and experience to bear on the mandate of the Ministries to which they have been assigned and the overall vision of the present administration.

Besides, Governor Ambode commended former members of the State Executive Council for their dedicated service and contribution to the achievements so far recorded by this administration, just as he also appreciated the leadership and members of the House of Assembly for ensuring due diligence and speedy confirmation process for the new Cabinet members.

The newly appointed cabinet members are Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm; Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Ladi Lawanson; Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Segun Banjo; Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye; and Special Adviser on Communities and Communications, Mr. Hakeem Sulaiman.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Oladunjoye thanked Governor Ambode for finding them worthy to be part of a robust administration which, according to her, had been implementing projects and policies in all sectors of the State, assuring that they would key into the vision and mission of government and offer nothing but the best to move Lagos forward.

AMBODE PROMISES TOUGH TIME FOR SEX OFFENDERS, ECONOMIC CRIMES

...Says Judiciary remains a sanctuary of hope for the common man

AgegePulse Magazine

R-L: Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode; rep. of the governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluranti Adebule; wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo; Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke; and chairman, Committee on Judiciary - LSHA, Hon. Funmi Tejuosho.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has vowed to make the state uncomfortable for sexual offenders and bring perpetrators of economic crimes to quick justice.

He said this at the commissioning of special courts to try corruption and economic crimes and sexual offences, at GRA, Ikeja.
The governor represented by his deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Adebule, noted that economic crimes and sex-related offences had become too rampant, hence the establishment of dedicated courts, to handle such matters for quick dispensation of justice.

According to him, The creation of these special courts, will assist in expeditious prosecution of economic and financial crimes and ensure that justice is attained by bringing offenders to justice without delay.
Ambode disclosed that the state was collaborating with the British Council and other agencies charged with investigating and prosecuting corruption offences, by providing enabling environment, responding to inquiries and giving information to economic and financial crimes commission, to assist them in performing their statutory functions.

He added that the present administration had a coordinated strategy, across state agencies and non-governmental organizations, to prevent violence against women, children and men, through the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), to provide holistic response to issues of sexual and gender-based violence in the state.

In her comments, wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, commended the state government for implementing the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mr. Justice Walter Onnoghens directive, by designating not one but four courts as special offences courts, stressing that it would aid speedy hearing and prosecution of such cases.
Alarmed at the statistics given of reported cases, Osinbajo urged the citizenry to look beyond the statistics, as many more cases were probably not reported.

She urged everyone to aid the long arm of the law to reach far and wide, by ensuring that cases were reported and given speedy hearing. This according to her, would ensure that justice reigns for all survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, not just in Nigeria but around the world.

According to her, The statistics given are frightening, even more so, some do not report the crime. We must look beyond statistics and focus on the faces of the survivors.
We must ensure that the long arm of the law reaches far and wide, all and sundry. We must assist them to bring justice which they deserve. Justice should reign for all the survivors, not just in Nigeria but around the world.
In comments to pressmen, wife of the governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, described the establishment of special courts for sexual offences, as a new phase in criminal justice administration, meant to bring sex offenders to book.

She observed that cases of rape, defilement and related others, had become an albatross around the society, which must be fought with appropriate machineries of government.
Bolanle contended, that the development would assist in comprehensive implementation of the Child Rights Law, Law against Domestic Violence and other female-friendly laws, already in force in the state.
She said, Happily, the establishment of the special courts, will guarantee sufficient judicial attention, quick determination of cases bordering on sexual offences and ultimately, quick dispensation of justice. It will also go a long way to assist in comprehensive implementation of the Child Rights Law; Law against Domestic Violence and others.

The governors wife urged victims to always speak up, and parents and guardians to assist juvenile victims report such cases to appropriate government agencies for redress and punishment for offenders.

In her own address, the chief judge of the state, Hon, Justice (Mrs.) Opeyemi Oke, noted that the special courts for sexual offences were first of its kind in the country, adding that Lagos State was also the first, to carry out the directive of the Chief Justice of the Federation, on the establishment of special courts, to try corruption and economic crimes.
She was optimistic that the justice sector in the state would strive to be at its best to bring succour and hope to the people, stressing that the judiciary remained a sanctuary of hope for the common man.

Lagos releases N5.5bn to contractors for 181 inner roads

…Project to be delivered within six months

AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it has released the sum of N5.563billion to contractors to flag off the construction of the 181 roads spread across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.

In a statement by the State’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the Government said the construction of the 181 council roads was in fulfillment of the promise by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to open up more inner roads across the State following the successful delivery of the 114 roads in September 2016.

According to Akinsanya, the roads would be constructed in phases, noting that phase one will see the construction of one road each in the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs of which contractors have been mobilised to move to site immediately.

The Commissioner said the sum of N5,563,697,382.00 released was 30 percent payment for the construction of the 57 roads while the total cost of the roads stands at N18,545,657,940.00.

“The roads will be done in phases, already phase one has been released. This phase involves 57 roads cutting across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

To enhance immediately mobilization to site, 30 percent has been given to all the contractors upfront. This is in line with the magnanimity of Governor Ambode’s administration to ensure service delivery all year round,” Akinsanya said.
He said due process was observed in awarding the contracts, adding that bids were opened on November 1, 2017 after which they were evaluated and considered.

He said there are 57 contractors involved in the first phase of the construction with a mandate to deliver in six months.

“Governor Ambode is totally committed to ensuring that Lagosians continue to enjoy good governance. There are many projects going on simultaneously across the State and the roads to be constructed will further open up the LGs and LCDAs for economic prosperity,” Akinsanya said.

The Commissioner, however, urged residents to continue to pay their taxes promptly to enable the Government to meet up with its target to complete all ongoing projects in the State this year.

LASG issues 20-day ultimatum for markets clean up

...Warns against dumping of refuse on roadsides, medians

AgegePulse Magazine

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has expressed displeasure with the present state of various markets across the State, saying that leaders of the various markets must prevail on their members to clean up their dirty surroundings within the next 20 days or risk closure of their markets.

The directive was issued in Alausa during a stakeholders forum with market leaders in the 57 local governments and local council development areas of the State.

Governor Ambode, who was represented at the event by Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami said the present administration abhors the dumping of refuse on roadsides, medians, bus stops as well as markets, urging market leaders to promptly rid their environment of waste.

He said dumping of refuse within the market environment poses health hazards, discourages customers and residents from patronising stalls within the markets, thereby reducing economic activity within the market environment.

“You have 20 days to clear the refuse in your markets. The State Government would not hesitate to shut down any market that is dirty because we will not be happy to see any market within our metropolis dirty” he stated.

Ambode emphasised that the State Government’s resolve to ensure a cleaner and healthier Lagos informed the Cleaner Lagos Initiative and the recruitment of street sweepers across the State.

He urged the market leaders to prioritize the cleanliness of their markets and cooperate with Visionscape officials by ensuring prompt and proper packaging of their waste for easy disposal.

He admonished the market leaders to ensure their members desist from street trading and urged all traders to get shops within the markets so as to ease the flow of traffic and prevent road accidents.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Fola Padonu solicited the support of market leaders to justify the huge resources already committed to the Cleaner Lagos Initiative by the Lagos State Government.

“All markets must be kept clean, the State Government has spent so much on various projects and we want you all to be partakers of these benefits. Work with us to ensure Lagos is cleaner.” the Permanent Secretary said.
