They should go and compete with my children. I raised my children in wealth. My children are citizens of America, citizens of the UK. I worked hard to get to that level. Kundus, kudos, what's the difference? What do you want to hear? English is not my mother tongue, Yoruba is."

His message was clear, his achievements speak louder than his grammar, and he's proud of the legacy he's building through his children.

The Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government and a leading aspirant in the July 12 council election, Mr Oluwagbenga Abiola, has welcomed his party’s decision to field Abdulganiyu Obasa as the APC’s flagbearer in the upcoming local government poll.

Abiola is a political protégé of the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly and APC leader in Agege, Mr Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos, Abiola affirmed his loyalty to the party and to Obasa.

NAN recalls that on Monday, Agege stakeholders urged Obasa to allow his son, Abdulganiyu, to contest the council chairmanship.

According to them, this would reward the Speaker’s years of humanitarian service and political impact in Agege.

Reacting to claims that he faced pressure to withdraw, Abiola said he remained deeply grateful to Obasa for shaping his political journey.

He pledged total support for the Speaker’s leadership and said he would never oppose the party’s direction or Obasa’s guidance.

He appointed me Special Assistant on Media when he became Speaker in 2015. In 2016, I was appointed Sole Administrator of Agege LG, thanks to his recommendation to the governor. They’ve asked the Speaker to allow his son to contest. I respect and support that. I stand with Obasa, with APC Agege, and with all decisions taken by the party and stakeholders,” he added.

Abiola noted that service to people was his true goal and believed more opportunities would come in the future.

“I trust my leader. He knows what’s best and can recommend me for even greater responsibilities when the time is right. I’m still young and full of energy. I’ll work for the party and ensure we achieve victory,” he said.

He added that he had instructed members of his Obasa Youth Alliance to fully support the party’s decision.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), recently announced July 12 for the chairmanship and councillorship election across the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

Ahead of the poll, aspirants from various political divides have hit the streets and online seeking to be made the candidates of their parties, with report of Lagos Speaker’s son aspiring to run for Agege council chairmanship under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the spotlight beyond the state.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Agege Stakeholders consisting of community and political leaders in the area called on Obasa to yield to their demand for his son to run for chairmanship.

“It’s our heartfelt wish that Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa rescinds his opposition to our collective aspiration of making Ganiyu Vinod Obasa our next council’s chairman.

“Our agitation stems from the indisputable fact that Vinod has the capacity to take Agege to a new height given his outstanding involvement in community service, experience, exposure and academic achievements.

“This is someone who has first and second degrees in universities in the UK in Accounting and Finance, and currently a PhD student at Babcock University.

He is equally not lacking in experience having worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC). He later joined Providus Bank before moving to Parallex Bank where he left as the Head of Performance Management and Strategy to start his own business, a going concern in the business of real estate and farming,” the spokesman for the stakeholders at the event, incumbent Executive Chairman of Agege local government, Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi said.

Egunjobi who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, which include: lawmaker representing Agege 02, Hon. Jubreel Abdulkareem, APC Party Chairman in the local government, Alhaji Tunde Disco, and Chief Safari Aderanijo further highlighted the junior Obasa’s records, saying his football academy, VINOD FA under the umbrella body, Kings Sports, is impacting positively on the community.

The stakeholders declared that the youthfulness of the Speaker’s son is consistent with what currently prevails in the council administration, adding that their motive for entreating the Speaker to support his son for the council’s chairmanship is to reward his commitments to the growth and development of Agege.

“How old was I when I became the Council Chairman 8 years ago? Same with the Vice chairman during my first term in office, he was much younger than me. Even the current Vice Chairman is way younger than me.

“We consider our earnest desire to have Abdulganiyu as our Council Chairman as a way of rewarding the numerous humanitarian endeavours of the Speaker in Agege land and beyond.

“Obasa has removed several families from poverty in terms of helping them to get jobs in the civil service and political appointments; and for most of us, this is a payback time,” Egunjobi affirmed.

How Police Recovered Firearm, ammunition From Tricycle Robbers In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command said Thursday that it foiled an attempted tricycle robbery along Kudirat Abiola Way in the Oregun area of Ikeja, recovering a firearm, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons at the scene.

The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that Alausa Police Division operatives on routine patrol spotted three men attempting to dispossess the rider his tricycle.

“Upon noticing the approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels. The officers, undeterred and determined to prevent further harm, engaged in a hot pursuit,” Mr Hundeyin said.

He said the suspects abandoned a black bag while fleeing the scene. A search of the bag revealed a Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and various charms.

The police stated that the tricyclist, who sustained machete injuries to the head and other parts of his body, was rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Centre where he is currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, commended the swift response of the officers and reiterated the Command’s commitment to the safety of residents.

Mr Hundeyin urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Last year, the police in the state announced the arrest of four suspects for allegedly stealing three tricycles belonging to a mobility company in Lagos.

According to Mr Hundeyin, the company’s secretary reported the case to the Ogudu Police Division. He stated that investigations led to the recovery of the stolen vehicles in Lagos, Ondo, and Ogun States.

“The first suspect was arrested in Ondo Town with the first tricycle. The second was arrested at Mile 12 in Lagos with the second tricycle. 

The third and fourth suspects were apprehended at Idiroko, a boundary town between Lagos and Ogun States, with the third tricycle,” he said.

Mr Hundeyin added that the suspects will be arraigned upon the completion of the investigation.

*INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:*

Upon arrival of Agency’s Response Teams at the incident scene by 09:52hrs, it was discovered that a 3-storey building housing a Restaurant and Bar had collapsed, with several victims trapped under the debris at the aforementioned location. 

*CAUSE OF INCIDENT:*

- Cause of the collapsed building is yet to be ascertained as at the time of writing this report. 

*CASUALTY REPORT:*

- 8 victims has been rescued so far.

- One of the rescued victims attended by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit has been transported to the hospital for further medical attention.

- Fatality: No deaths has been recorded so far from the incident as the time of writing this report. 

*ACTION TAKEN:*

- LASEMA Response Teams commenced Search and Rescue efforts immediately on arrival.

- Safety measures were activated with the operational area cordoned-off at the incident scene.

How CBEX Promoters Used EFCC, CAC Certificates To Deceive 600,000 Investors -

More details have emerged on how promoters of the fraudulent Ponzi scheme, Crypto Bridge Exchange, aka CBEX, convinced hundreds of thousands of investors to put money into the trading platform

How CBEX Promoters Used EFCC, CAC Certificates To Deceive 600,000 Investors -

CBEX, a digital investment platform, offered investors 100 per cent profit after 30 days of purported AI trading.

No fewer than 600,000 Nigerians reportedly invested in the scheme and lost N1.3tn after it collapsed on Monday.

Findings by Saturday PUNCH revealed that the promoters of the platform operated under a company registered as ST Technologies International Limited.

ST Technologies was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission on September 25, 2024, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering on January 16, 2025.

Copies of the certificates were obtained by our correspondents.

One of the documents was titled, ‘Certificate of Increase in Issued Share Capital of ST Technologies International Limited Company Registration No. 7955973.’

It read, “The Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission hereby certifies that pursuant to the resolution and notice of increase in share capital dated 4th December 2024, and presented for filing on 5th December 2024, in respect of the above-named company, the increase in share capital from N1,000,000 to N201,000,000—by the creation of 200,000,000 ordinary shares of N1 each and preference shares of N0 each—has been registered with the commission. Given under my hand at Abuja this 17th day of December 2024.”

Similarly, the EFCC’s certificate of January 16, 2025, stated, “ST Technologies International Limited has been duly registered in accordance with the provisions of Section 17(2)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, and any other applicable law or regulation.”

Some of the victims, who spoke to Saturday PUNCH, said the registration certificates gave them confidence that the scheme was authentic.

“They were also doing charity, hospital outreach, paying hospital bills… it was a coordinated approach,” an investor who asked not to be identified said.

A check on the CAC’s website confirmed that the company remained active, though Saturday PUNCH could not access the names of its board of directors.

Open-source intelligence platforms such as NgCheck, B2BHint, and Finelib did not display the company’s address, board members, and other critical information.

A video clip from a Nigerian television station, ITV, identified one Adefowora Abiodun as the leader of ST Technologies International Limited, while another official, Oluwanisola Adefowora, was introduced as the company’s representative in Nigeria.

In the footage, the duo encouraged Nigerians to invest in the scheme and invite others to join, claiming it would help improve their standard of living.

“With the help of ST, you will not lose money. All you need to do is just to follow the order. They give advice; go in that direction. They are a group of analysts based in the United Kingdom,” Adefowora said.

The video was recorded on February 10, 2025 during the inauguration of the firm’s Abuja office attended by a crowd.

The Telegram groups

Findings by Saturday PUNCH showed that promoters of the scheme maintained different Telegram groups for users.

Our correspondents had access to three.

The first group, ‘ST Customer Support,’ had 144,460 members.

The other group, ‘Newcomer Advance Group,’ had 58,186, while the third platform, ‘ST Signal Group IV,’ had 87,864 members as of the first day of the crash.

However, all the Telegram accounts were locked following the crash of the platform on Monday.

Saturday PUNCH observed that the administrators of the groups used mostly UK mobile numbers with animated pictures for their profiles. They did not use their real photos.

LAGOS COMMENCES VACCINATION EXERCISE FOR 2025 HAJJ INTENDING PILGRIMS

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced the vaccination of its intending pilgrims against polio, meningitis, and yellow fever ahead of the 2025 Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The vaccination, which started on Wednesday, April 16 (day one) at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas (SAT) Mosque Hall, GRA, Ikeja, has intending pilgrims from Agege, Amuwo Odofin, Badagry and Mushin Local Government Areas being attended to. 

According to the roster of the exercise, intending pilgrims from other local government areas would be attended to as scheduled. On day two (Thursday, April 17), intending pilgrims from Ajeromi Ifelodun, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, and Oshodi Isolo would be vaccinated, while Alimosho, Epe, Ifako Ijaiye and Lagos Mainland would have theirs on Tuesday, April 22.

Apapa, Surulere, Ikeja and Lagos Island would be attended to on day four, Wednesday, April 23, while on day five, Thursday, April 24, Shomolu, Ojo, Ikorodu and JAIZ Bank, NIA and Royal intending pilgrims would be vaccinated. The last day, Monday, April 28, would be the turn of government officials and outstanding/leftover pilgrims. 

The Board Secretary, Mr AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, said that the vaccination exercise was in fulfilment of the requirements for international travel. He, therefore, urged the intending pilgrims to make themselves available on the date appointed for their respective local governments. 

He added that officials of the Port Health Service (Federal Ministry of Health) would provide them with a yellow card after the vaccination.

Meanwhile, the State Government has constituted a 13-man central working committee to oversee and ensure the success of the 2025 Holy Pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

The Board Secretary said that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Dr. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee, adding that 21 Schedule Officers (Coordinators) have been appointed for the Local Government Areas of the State. 

He emphasised that the committee would be responsible for the Hajj operation both in Nigeria and the Holy Land, by ensuring that everything necessary is put in place for the pilgrims to perform the Hajj rites both in Makkah and Madinah seamlessly. 

  

Also, the coordinators would work closely with the committee to ensure that the needs of the pilgrims are met and their journey made as comfortable as possible.

Ajomagberin, who was recently appointed as the Board Secretary, explained that each member of the committee would chair the sub-committees constituted for the success of the pilgrimage exercise.

According to him, the sub-committees and their chairmen include Imam (Engr.) Shakiru Ayinde Gafar (Muna, Madinah and Arafah); Prof. Kabir Paramole (Dawah & Sensitization); Dr. (Mrs.) Faosat Dabiri (Medical); Alhaji Yusuf Ara (Bags and Luggage); Alhaji Mojeed Sanni (Transportation); Hon. Waheed Lolade Shonibare (Airlifting and Manifest) and Hon. Mayegun Musiliudeen (Accommodation). 

Others are; Alh. Agoro Ibrahim (Security); Issa Akeredolu (Media and Publicity); Imam Nurain AbdulAzeez (Tribunal); Alhaja Oluwakemi Okunola and Alhaja Idayat Elegbede (Special duties) and Board Secretary (Passport and Visa).

Exam malpractice: WAEC revokes licences of 574 schools,

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria has revoked the licences of 574 schools.

WAEC announced that the affected schools were found guilty of examination malpractices.

The examination body also stated that the schools will not be allowed to conduct examinations even as the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, commences from Thursday, April 24, 2025. Continue reading...

2025 UTME MOCK: JAMB TO PENALISE 180 CANDIDATES FOR EXAM FRAUD

No fewer than 211,000 candidates on Thursday sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Mock exam conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board across designated Computer-Based Test in the country.

2025 UTME MOCK: JAMB TO PENALISE 180 CANDIDATES FOR EXAM FRAUD

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who disclosed this while monitoring the exercise at a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja, revealed that the results of the mock examination will be released on Friday.

“They will have the results today. The results will be ready. Those who finished, we are working now on their results, but we want to compare with the second batch, the third batch, and so on. And see that everything is working well. But later by Friday, they will have the results,” he said.

Explaining the purpose of the UTME Mock, Oloyede said the exercise was aimed at testing the board’s readiness for the main examination and experimenting with new strategies to improve the process.

“The word is mock, and we want to say so far so good. What we want to do is to try some things. As students are getting wiser, we are also getting better.

“Because we are doing certain things to ensure that those things are done. So we are trying to make sure that when we go for the exam, we will have taken experience and taken some lessons from our experience at the Mock level. So, so far, so good,” he said.

The Registrar, who said the only way to pass UTME is by studying hard, expressed concerns that some candidates are patronisng rogue websites in order to cheat in the exam, adding that JAMB has also opened a decoy website targeting such individuals.

“We need to let the students know that the best way to pass the examination, UTME in particular, is to study. We are aware of some rogue websites asking people to come and pay that they can help.

“It cannot work. We have also opened our own rogue website. And as of this morning, about 180 students have paid.

“So those students, because to attempt to cheat is already an infraction. So those who paid into that account, looking for questions, we are going to deal firmly with them. And many of the institutions, UTME is not a school-based examination.

“We register students individually. And that is why we tell the students, do not give (out) your registration number. Do not register by proxy.

“Do not give your registration number to anybody. Because some of these schools want to be able to brag that, oh, my 10 students from my school scored 280. There was a state where even the governor of a state was misinformed, and they were celebrating nothing. So this type of thing that people want to cut corners, we are abreast of all this. And we are doing everything possible (to stop it).

“We have about 180 of them. And we are going to deal with them firmly. We are going to cancel their results, both UTME and DE,” Oloyede said.

He advised candidates to steer clear of fraudulent websites and individuals claiming to offer assistance during the examination.

Firearm, ammunition recovered from attempted tricycle robbers – Police

The Lagos State Police Command said Thursday that it foiled an attempted tricycle robbery along Kudirat Abiola Way in the Oregun area of Ikeja, recovering a firearm, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons at the scene.

The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that Alausa Police Division operatives on routine patrol spotted three men attempting to dispossess the rider his tricycle.

“Upon noticing the approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels. The officers, undeterred and determined to prevent further harm, engaged in a hot pursuit,” Mr Hundeyin said.

He said the suspects abandoned a black bag while fleeing the scene. A search of the bag revealed a Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and various charms.

The police stated that the tricyclist, who sustained machete injuries to the head and other parts of his body, was rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Centre where he is currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, commended the swift response of the officers and reiterated the Command’s commitment to the safety of residents.

Mr Hundeyin urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Last year, the police in the state announced the arrest of four suspects for allegedly stealing three tricycles belonging to a mobility company in Lagos.

According to Mr Hundeyin, the company’s secretary reported the case to the Ogudu Police Division. He stated that investigations led to the recovery of the stolen vehicles in Lagos, Ondo, and Ogun States.

“The first suspect was arrested in Ondo Town with the first tricycle. The second was arrested at Mile 12 in Lagos with the second tricycle. 

The third and fourth suspects were apprehended at Idiroko, a boundary town between Lagos and Ogun States, with the third tricycle,” he said.

Mr Hundeyin added that the suspects will be arraigned upon the completion of the investigation.

JUST IN: Dangote refinery slashes petrol price again, now N835/litre

Fresh from implementing a N15 price reduction in its loading cost for Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, the Dangote refinery has again slashed its refined products prices to make them cheaper, cutting its ex-depot rate to N835 per litre.

The new price is a reduction of N30 from N865 per litre implemented six days ago, marking a 3.5 per cent decrease and N45 from N880 per litre sold by the facility last Wednesday.

This price slash also marks Dangote’s third downward adjustment in under six weeks.

PUNCH Online gathered that the refinery informed its customers in a notice sent out on Wednesday morning.

It said the new price is inclusive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority charges.

On Wednesday, PUNCH Online hinted at a possible price slash after the landing cost of imported petrol dropped to N853 per litre on Tuesday.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja, has nullified the removal of the reinstated speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, which took place on January 13, 2025.

The court held that the action of the majority lawmakers, including the deputy speaker Mojisola Meranda, in which she emerged as the speaker, was unconstitutional.

The court also set aside all other resolutions and decisions made from the controversial sitting of Jan. 13 and awarded N500,000 to Mr. Obasa as damages.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has assured political parties that it will ensure the credible conduct of the July 12 local government election.

The commission’s chairman, Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile, gave the assurance during a meeting with representatives of registered political parties in Lagos on Tuesday.

LASIEC announced on Friday that July 12 would be the election date in 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).

Ms Okikiolu-Ighile also pledged a level playing field for each political party before and during the election and sought their support for the exercise.

“Nobody among us is a card-carrying member of any political party. Let us be nice to ourselves. We are not your opponent; we are working for the betterment of this election.

“We are prepared, we are working, we have sworn an oath, and we are going to stick to the oath,” Ms Okikioly-Ighile said.

The LASIEC boss, while speaking on the election guidelines, encouraged political parties and aspirants to strictly follow the electoral timetable and the guidelines.

She said political parties must visit the LASIEC headquarters to obtain nomination forms, adding that they would pay administrative fees for processing the nomination of their respective candidates.

Ms Okikiolu-Ighile, however, stated that female candidates were to pay half of the administrative fees.

She said the details of the revenue code and agency code for the payment would be stated in the guidelines. Also, verification of candidates’ documents will take place at the commission’s headquarters.

The LASIEC boss said the election guidelines would be published on April 17, while campaigns and rallies would start on April 18 and end on July 9.

“Political parties are to submit details of their party agents between June 23 and June 28. The political parties are to give verifiable party secretariat addresses to the commission,” she added.

Meanwhile, Temilola Akinade, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) chairperson in Lagos State, has expressed displeasure over the council’s neglect by the new LASIEC board.

Ms Akinade said the commission erred in how it released the election notice without the contributions of IPAC and other critical stakeholders.

According to her, important issues remain unresolved as regards the appropriate interpretation of the Supreme Court’s pronouncements on LG autonomy and how that will impact the 37 LCDAs established by the state government.

Ayinde Olawale of the African Action Congress (AAC) said the party would not participate in any local government election recognising the 37 LCDAs in the state.

Dele Oladeji, the state chairman of the Accord Party, urged the new board to always carry political parties along in the process.

Other party leaders took turns to express displeasure over the revised LASIEC law empowering the agency to conduct executive elections into 57 LGs/LCDAs, without the knowledge of stakeholders.

They said many political parties had yet to access the new law, stating that such critical legislation should be in the public domain.

Responding, the LASIEC boss said she could not meet IPAC earlier due to the huge workload and the need to put things right.

She explained that the law requires the commission to meet with IPAC only before the release of guidelines.

“The commission regards and respects IPAC and political parties a lot. The issue of guidelines is why we called for this critical stakeholders meeting to have your input,” she said.

HSC COMMISSIONERS EMBARK ON HOSPITAL FACT-FINDING MISSION

In a proactive move to bolster operational efficiency and prioritise the well-being of healthcare personnel, members of the Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) have commenced their Y2025 fact-finding mission to all 30 General Hospitals across the state.

The Commission's initiative, which aligns with its statutory responsibilities, aims to gain firsthand insights into hospital operations while championing improved welfare packages for dedicated healthcare staff. 

The visits also serve as an opportunity to formally introduce the newly appointed Commission Members to the Medical Directors and management teams of the various hospitals.

So far, the HSC team has visited Harvey Road General Hospital, Mainland General Hospital (Infectious Disease Hospital - IDH), and Somolu General Hospital.

Upon arrival at each facility, the delegation, led by the Chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, was received by the respective Medical Directors and their management teams. Subsequent meetings held in the hospitals' conference rooms centred on strategies for ensuring seamless operations, advocating enhanced staff welfare, and the formal introduction of the new Commission Members.

The visiting HSC team comprises experienced Commissioners, including Dr. Olumuyiwa Adetokunbo Solanke (Commissioner I), Dr. Mobolaji Ayotunde Olukoya (Commissioner II), and the newly inducted members, Dr. (Pharm.) Moyosore Adejumo (Commissioner II) and Dr. (Nurse) Ololade Fadipe (Commissioner IV).

During the engagements, Dr. Onayiga passionately advocated greater attention to staff welfare, emphasising that prioritising the happiness of healthcare professionals is paramount to achieving efficient service delivery, fostering loyalty, and ensuring unwavering commitment to duty. "With the inclusion of our new members, the Commission now has a complete and strengthened voice," Dr. Onayiga affirmed.

Other Commission Members echoed these sentiments, contributing valuable perspectives on strategies to further enhance the quality of healthcare services across the state.

Also part of the visiting team from the HSC were Dr. Olubunmi Adebiyi and Dr. Zainab Salisu from the Medical Services Department, and Mrs. Olufunmilayo Meadows, representing Administration and Human Resources.

LASIEC Releases LG Polls' Timetable, Election To Take Place On July 12

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed Saturday, 12 July, 2025, for the conduct of local government elections across the state, with political campaigns scheduled to commence from Friday, 18 April, 2025.

In line with Section 21(I) of the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended), the Commission has officially released the Notice of Election for the positions of Chairmen and Councilors across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and 376 wards in Lagos State.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Commission, Mr. Tope Ojo, and made available to journalists in Lagos.

According to the statement, the current tenure of local government administrations in the state is gradually winding down, prompting the Commission to intensify preparations for the transition. The release of the Notice of Election marks the official commencement of the electoral process.

As outlined in the timetable, a run-off or re-run election (if necessary) has been scheduled for Saturday, 19 July, 2025.

Ojo also disclosed that all registered political parties are expected to visit the Commission’s headquarters to obtain nominations and other relevant forms on behalf of their candidates.

Further key dates in the election timetable include a strategic meeting between LASIEC and all registered political parties on Tuesday, 15 April, 2025, and the publication of detailed election guidelines on Thursday, 17 April, 2025.

Campaigns and political rallies are permitted to begin on Friday, 18 April, 2025, and will run until Wednesday, 9 July, 2025.

The submission window for nomination forms of “substituted” or “only candidates” by political parties will open on Wednesday, 18 June, 2025, and close on Wednesday, 25 June, 2025.

The Chairman of LASIEC, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections in accordance with global best practices.

She assured all political parties of a level playing field and urged strict adherence to the approved timetable.

The Vice Chairman, while welcoming the officials from LGSC, appreciated them for always coming to check on the LCDA to see the progress been made and also give words of advice on how things can be improved.

The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission,  Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, who was ably represented by Hon Hakeem Adisa Bamgbala(Commissioner representing Lagos Division), while addressing the gathering, appreciated the Chairman and his team for performing excellently well.

He also appreciated the entire workforce for cooperating with the Chairman and his team to achieve the laudable landmark.

Hon Taofeek Adaranijo, the commissioner representing Ikeja Division, also appreciated the Chairman and also the executive, management, and entire workforce for the cooperation, which has given birth to continuous development in the LCDA,which makes it one of the best in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Abosede George, who was represented by Mrs Omobolanle Ajayi, Director, Admin and HR, congratulated all the members of staff that participated in the promotion exercise as their letters would soon be out. She also appealed to the workforce to be conversant with the Public Service Rules and the way official memos are written as any memo not properly addressed and relevant documents attached to it would not be attended to. She also said that officers who performed outstandingly well would be appreciated this year.

The Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Mrs Bibilomo  ably represented by Mrs Adegun, admonished members of staff to develop themselves and also see it as a duty to attend the webinars organised by the Commission. She also said that the ICT unit should create an avenue where members of staff would learn how to use the computer effectively and efficiently as very soon, officers' knowledge of the use of technology would be tested and also those who are attending courses at PSSDC would be required to do a Computer Based Test.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Council Manager, Dr Adekoya Adesanya expressed appreciation to the Commission for the visit, noting that the Local Council Development Area would remain committed in Service delivery and  continued staff development especially in the areas of Information Technology which the Executive Chairman also has great interest with his numerous unwavering support.

HOW POLICE UNCOVERED BABY FACTORY IN LAGOS

Lagos State Police Command on Monday, said it uncovered a baby factory in the Ijegun, Alimosho area of the state.

The operation took place on Saturday, at about 2: 00 p.m following credible information from the Afurugbin area where the factory was located.

Six adults and three children were rescued from the factory, which followed the arrests of the baby factory operator and her accomplices.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, disclosed this as part of his achievements in the past few weeks.

“On April 5, 2025 at about 1400 hours, a credible intel was received that there was a baby factory at Afurugbin, Ijegun area. 

Based on the report, detectives of the Command were quickly mobilized to the scene. The operator, one Mariam Vincent (35) and two others, Orie Ruth (23) and Ujunwa Ifeanyi (18) were immediately arrested. 

The following victims; Precious (24) Magdalene  (25) Adaobi (23) Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), Amaka (26) and three children; Destiny (7), Miracle (5) and Success (2) held in captivity, were rescued.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have abducted their victims in different area of the state for the purpose of running a baby factory.
