Jamb: Oloyede Admits Errors in Tears, Reschedule Exams

Yomi Durojaye

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged that technical glitches affected candidates’ performance during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Jamb: Oloyede Admits Errors in Tears, Reschedule Exams

The Board announced that 379,997 candidates in Lagos and Nigeria’s South-East region will have to retake their exams following the discovery of errors in their results processing.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, tearfully apologised during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, taking full responsibility for what he described as a regrettable technical oversight.

Oloyede explained that the problem originated from a service provider responsible for Lagos and South-East zones, who failed to properly update delivery servers after a system patch.

This error, which went unnoticed before results were released, affected 65 centres in Lagos (206,610 candidates) and 92 centres in the South-East (173,387 candidates).

He said affected candidates will receive text messages, emails, and phone calls starting Thursday, with instructions to reprint their examination slips.

The rescheduled UTME will commence on Friday, May 16, 2025, with arrangements made alongside WAEC to prevent timetable clashes.

Prof. Oloyede reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and equity, promising tighter safeguards to prevent such incidents in future exams.

Some of the stakeholders present at the briefing expressed satisfaction with JAMB’s transparency, commending the Board for openly admitting the error and promptly rescheduling the examination for affected candidates.

They described the decision as a responsible and reassuring move for the integrity of the country’s education system.

Recall that, over 75% of candidates scored below 200 out of 400 marks in the 2025 UTME, nationwide concern has continued to grow over academic performance.

LASG REAFFIRMS 10% CAP ON TENANCY AGREEMENT FEES, WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL CHARGES

Eniola Ajose

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its stance against the imposition of excessive tenancy agreement fees, reminding all stakeholders within the state that the stipulated maximum remains 10% of the annual rent.

This declaration was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Housing, Barrister. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Barr. Odunuga-Bakare underscored the clarity and unambiguous nature of the Lagos State Tenancy Law, stating unequivocally that any landlord or agent found demanding or collecting more than 10 per cent of the annual rent as agreement or legal fees is in direct violation of the state’s tenancy regulations.

Expressing concern over reports of unscrupulous practices, the Special Adviser stated, "We have been overwhelmed by reports of the activities of these unscrupulous elements making life hard for Lagosians with agreements and commissions that is like asking for an arm and a leg. We are calling on members of the public not to keep silent but to report such agents and landlords to us for the government cannot be everywhere, every time”.

Acknowledging the significant challenges posed by the nation's burgeoning population and increasing rural-urban migration on the state's housing sector, Barr. Odunuga-Bakare recognised that this situation has unfortunately created opportunities for some individuals to exploit vulnerable residents. However, she firmly asserted the State Government's unwavering commitment to regulating and sanitising the housing sector to protect the interests of Lagosians.

Furthermore, Barr. Odunuga-Bakare highlighted the collaborative efforts between the government and recognised associations of real estate agents. "We have met with associations of real estate agents, and they have assured us that the people who are engaging in such practices are not registered agents that identify with their associations," she noted, suggesting that these illegal activities are often perpetrated by unregistered individuals operating outside the purview of established professional bodies."

The Lagos State Government urges all residents who encounter demands for tenancy agreement fees exceeding the legally mandated 10% to report such incidents through the Lagos State Real Estate Regulating Authority (LASRERA) on Facebook, Instagram: lasrera 1 and X (formerly Twitter) @lasrera

This call to action aims to empower citizens and ensure the effective enforcement of the Tenancy Law, thereby fostering a fairer and more transparent housing market in Lagos State.

How A 19-year-old, Faith Timilehin, took her own life after scoring 190 in 2025 UTME

Eniola Ajose

Faith Timilehin took her own life in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday

The teenager, originally from Abeokuta, had been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to family and neighbours, Timilehin was a calm and respectful young woman with high academic hopes. She had applied to study Microbiology and was deeply disappointed by her score of 190, which she considered lower than her 2024 result.

“She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” a close friend told News Central on the phone.

After ingesting a substance known locally as Push Out-a common rodent poison Timilehin reportedly went to her sister’s office and asked for palm oil to ease the pain. Her sister, unaware of what had happened, initially ignored her request. Moments later, she raised an alarm when Timilehin’s condition worsened, attracting neighbours and sympathisers.

An eyewitness confirmed that Timilehin eventually confessed on the way to the hospital that she had consumed poison at home before visiting her sister’s workplace.

Efforts to save her life proved futile. She was pronounced dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan.

Merely 30 minutes after her death, a provisional admission message from JAMB arrived in her Gmail inbox.

“The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail yesterday, immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos,” a family source stated. Following the incident, her grieving parents arrived from Abeokuta and took her body home for burial.

APC Lagos LG Primary: Council Party leaders fault Imposition Claim

Eniola Ajose

L-R: Agege APC Apex Leader, Chief Safari Adaranijo, Middle( Agege Council Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi), R: Hon. Johnson Babatunde, Chairman Orile Agege

The leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC Agege and Orile-Agege chapters in Lagos, have pushed back at claims that chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the party in their areas for the forthcoming council polls in the state scheduled for July 12, 2025 were imposed.

The party primaries for all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in respect of chairmanship and councillorship were held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the party’s state secretariat.

Based on delegate voting and consensus, not few of the results of the exercises released by the Election Committee chaired by Barrister Babatunde Ogala in which the party chairmanship candidates in all the councils expect Yaba LCDA and Mainland LCDA were named have been engulfed in controversies that border on alleged impositions and allegations that the election processes were flawed, skewed in favour of some aspirants and arranged to achieve predetermined ends.

Agege and Orile-Agege where Alhaji Tunde Azeez and Idowu Akinola emerged as the ruling party chairmanship candidates respectively have their own share of the imposition claim.

On Tuesday the leadership of the party in both councils after a meeting held at the Agege local government secretariat issued a communiqué with which they refuted the accusation.

Signatories to the communiqué are: Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashir Obasa, the lawmaker representing AGEGE 02 in the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Jubril Kareem, Member House of Reps, Hon Dr. Wale Ahmed, Special Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Afolabi Tajudeen, Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Hon Afolabi Ayantayo, APC APEX LEADER, Alhaji Safari Adaranijo, and First Executive Chairman AGEGE LG, Alhaji Genius Owolabi Dada.

Others are: Executive Chairman AGEGE LG, High Chief Ganiu Kola Egunjobi, Executive Chairman Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon Sunday Johnson Babatunde,

Chairman, LAHASCOM, Hon. Richard Akin Osungboye, Former APC Party chairman, Alhaji Ayoni Shittu, APC AGEGE LG Chairman, Alhaji Tunde Azeez, APC ORILE-AGEGE LG Chairman, Hon. Salau Olaniyi, Former council Chairman and former Member House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Adeshina, APC LEADER, Elder Sunday Ajide and Former House of Assembly member, Hon. Ashimiu Adebayo.

The leaders in their statement said those faulting the process that led to the emergence of APC candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship in all the 13 wards abandoned the party and the communities long ago.

"As far as we are concerned, the primary elections were free and fair; and suggestion by some elements that the candidates that emerged were imposed on them is misleading.

"Those making this false claims are sore losers; and for years ostracised themselves from APC and our communities.

"To put it in context, the likes of MD of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, ex-House of Representatives member, Dr Samuel Adejare, and three-time House of Assembly member, Oluyinka Ogundimu  are not involved in the activities of the party in both councils.

"In the same boat is Biodun Ogunji, a chairmanship aspirant in Agege who lives in the UK with his family but weeks back came down to Nigeria for the purpose of his aspiration.

"Same thing with his fellow-failed aspirant, Bukola Sofidiya, aka Gidado, a US-based Agege politician and Sola Osolana who was the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Agege in the last council election in the state.

"It is a general knowledge that the leadership of the party in the state in their wisdom adopted consensus or delegate voting for the primaries with party local government excos as the voters.

"In Agege and Orile-Agege, excos members were constituted about four years ago when the aforementioned persons distanced themselves from the party in both council areas and its activities; as well as stayed away from our dear communities.

"In that context, it's only people with limited education and obscurity of positions that would consider themselves as  contenders and not pretenders in the just concluded primaries," the Comminique partly read.

THINGS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON WHEN RAISING A BOY CHILD

THINGS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON WHEN RAISING A BOY CHILD

BOY

Whether you believe it not, male misogynistic behavior is so deep-rooted in our society that raising boys how they really should be has become very difficult. There is a very famous and widely-used saying that “boys will be boys”, which has made it like a standard practice for parents to ignore and promote some of the major toxic behaviors any human can possess.

I often find myself questioning if we are parenting our boys right. The problem I face all the time is to distinguish between normal behaviors versus what might lead our boys towards the “boys will be boys approach”.

THINGS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON WHEN RAISING A BOY — THE DO’S

The negative stigma that surrounds boys and their upbringing is more cultural than biological. Society has developed the image of a perfect man to be strong, unemotional, competitive, fearless, rowdy, and powerful. Even so that we have also declared that it is a man’s world. That right there is an extremely negative connotation to embed in any child’s mind.

FIRSTLY, you need to accept that boys and girls are different. There is no one size fits all parenting model. You have to mold your parenting techniques as per the attitudes and behaviors of your child. However, for boys you need to focus on the following to support their UPBRINGING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION:

TEACHING BOUNDARIES

When we talk about boundaries, parents often think that they need to teach girls about boundaries. However, boys need to be taught about boundaries too, where they should able to enforce their boundaries and respect others as well.

Boundaries do not only imply physical limitations like touching, hugging, kissing, etc. Boundaries can be physical, emotional, intellectual, material, time, and relational. Teaching your child about boundaries is enabling them to learn about their right of yes or no.

PHYSICAL BOUNDARIES — Raising boys who are aware of their physical boundaries is no less important than teaching girls about it. Nobody should touch him without his permission and he should do the same by not touching others without their permission.

EMOTIONAL BOUNDARIES — This involves letting your son choose who and to what extent he wants to open up about his emotions. Like, if your son doesn’t like sharing his problems or feelings with grandma or uncle then you shouldn’t force him to do it either. Similarly, respecting others’ emotional boundaries.

INTELLECTUAL BOUNDARIES — Such boundaries revolve around your thoughts and ideas. A healthy intellectual boundary means that your son should be able to develop his own ideas and thoughts. As well as respect others with a different perspective.

MATERIAL BOUNDARIES — We often want our children to share everything they have with their siblings or friends. What we don’t know is that healthy material boundaries are necessary. Your child has a right to choose whether they want to share their toys, space, or any other belonging. Similarly, being considerate of others’ belongings and space.

TIME BOUNDARIES — This type of boundary will help your son understand how to prioritize his time and how important a certain thing is. He always has choices of how and where he would like to spend his time. Also, bring self-care into his priority.

RELATIONAL BOUNDARIES — It’s one of the common boundaries that most people are already aware of. It means teaching your son that he doesn’t have to interact with every single person in the room.

Teaching your son about boundaries will help him gain more confidence and he will become clear about his own needs and feelings. Plus, it will teach him to respect others and their boundaries from a very early age.

ENCOURAGING EMOTIONAL GROWTH

When it comes to emotions and boys, we tend to always separate the two. However, emotions are a natural human expression and everybody has a right to feel and express them. I am sure you must have heard someone saying “boys don’t cry” at least once in your lifetime.

It’s because of such stereotyping that boys learn to hold their emotions in, which turns into anger and frustration later on. Michael C. Reichert, a psychologist and a very famous author of How to Raise a Boy — The Power of Connection to Build Good Men says, emotions are like energy. They don’t do away on their own. They always translate into something. In such cases, it mostly misbehavior.

One of the best things that you can do for your son is listening to him and let him express his feelings without any judgment. Remember that you listening to your son is not the same as agreeing. It is only the first step to creating a relationship and coming with the solution together.

Once your son grasps that he doesn’t have to be afraid of rejection, failure, or judgment he will be more open to sharing his feelings, needs, and aspirations.

There are a few things that will help you to ENCOURAGE YOUR SON’S EMOTIONAL GROWTH:

Let him explore his feelings and don’t jump to solutions right away

Create a safe environment where he can think about his strengths and weaknesses

Avoid telling your son that he is behaving like a girl or he shouldn’t feel a certain way

Accept his feelings and help him understand them

Don’t call him names for feeling a certain thing

BE A GOOD ROLE MODEL

Most parents would constantly reject and ignore their son’s feelings or emotions (sometimes unintentionally) just to keep their son growing up as “manly” as he can.

When you teach your son how to handle and express his emotions respectfully, you are indeed helping your son take a giant step towards manhood. Because the world is enough to toughen up your little boy. Your job is to support and nurture his personality with kindness and compassion.

COMMUNICATE TO BUILD A STRONG RELATIONSHIP

Building a strong relationship with your children is extremely important. And effective communication plays a great role in it. Sometimes, there will also be days when sparking a daily conversation would feel like a major task. And that’s completely fine.

The number one rule towards healthy communication is being attentive followed by being non-judgemental. Have you ever thought about why you wouldn’t want to share something with your parents (if that’s the case)? Probably because you are afraid to be rejected, judged, or misunderstood.

Your children feel the same way. Especially boys, because they are expected to figure everything out on their own, behave a certain way, and be strong in every circumstance. Now think, is it really wise to expect your son to behave properly and do as you say even when you are not providing him with nurturing.

While raising boys, it becomes very important to constantly keep up with meaningful and healthy conversations. Most boys are filled with energy which makes it difficult for them to be still in one place. Here are some important points to keep in mind while establishing healthy communication to build a strong relationship with your son:

QUALITY IS KEY — This comprises of two things. Firstly, the conversations should be one-on-one without any distractions. Secondly, the matter of your conversations should be interesting as well. It is very unlikely that your son will engage if all you are doing is lecturing him. Rather, you can share your stories and give him some time to process them. If it doesn’t work then you can always opt for effective disciplinary actions.

BE ATTENTIVE AND AVAILABLE — There is no point in communicating if you are not 100 percent there and you have a million things running at the same time. This is almost the same as the previous point. Focus on the quality of the time rather than seizing every opportunity you have.

FOCUS ON WHAT HE IS TRYING TO CONVEY — When your son communicates with you. Things may come out as confusing. Therefore, always focus on understanding between the lines and his body language. Your focus should on understanding him rather than pressurizing him about what you think is right.

SEPARATE BEHAVIOR FROM CHILD — Children tend to make several mistakes and that’s normal. If your son is misbehaving, it does not mean that he is a bad boy. Children are in a learning process for a very long period of time. Accept, remind, and discipline your son with love and compassion.

Don’ Try To Be His Friend — Parents who try to become friends with their children often erase the fine line of authority. Raising boys especially, need a parent who can hold the authority and let their child know who is in charge even after being extremely nurturing, helpful, and supportive.

GIVE HIM SPACE AND TIME — Even children need some space of their own. As a parent, you need to understand that you have to accept your child’s space. It’s better to accept rather than give a rise to negative feelings.

Even when you are laying out straight house rules and expectations, keep in mind to make a mutual decision and let your son know that you love him. As parents, we are there to protect, nurture, and help our children to discover the best of them. And not to pressurize them into doing things that we think or want!

CREATE A SAFE SPACE

Becoming a stable, healthy, and happy adult requires a lot to be done in the early years of life. Most parents tend to ignore the fact that raising boys doesn’t mean that you have to be as tough as the world outside. Home is a safe sanctuary for every child.

Believe it or not, even your son would love to spend time with you than do anything else most of the time. Yes, when boys grow up, they like life differently. But the safe space you created in their early years has done more benefit to them than you can imagine.

Creating a safe space would encourage a family culture. It helps your son to recharge and get ready for the world in the best way possible. Even teenagers and adults find safe spaces to be an enormous gift where they can feel secure, happy, and comfortable after tough days at school or workplaces.

Here are a couple of things you can keep in mind while creating a safe space for your son:

GIVE RESPECT TO GET RESPECT — If you are continuously shaming or humiliating your son, then you are creating a stressful environment and nobody likes stress.

CHILDREN CAN’T BE PRESSURED ALL THE TIME — The core of a safe space is a place that is easy, well-structured, and has a calming vibe. If you have harsh rules and obligations that you are trying to impose all the time, then you are not fulfilling the purpose of a safe space.

PROVIDE A WELL-STRUCTURED HOME — Children like knowing what they are supposed to do next. Therefore, it’s best to come up with a structured plan for your home with house rules and a schedule so that your son knows what to expect next. This way your home will run smoothly without you reminding again and again.

SCREEN-TIME LIMITATIONS — Excessive screen-time is not good for you or your kids anyway. Plus, it takes away the time you could have spent together as a family. You can read more about how to work with effective screen time here.

PLAN FUN ACTIVITIES — Another way to make your home vibe happy for your son is to plan different activities (that aren’t forced). This way you get to spend some quality time and share a cheerful experience together.

Boys too need their family in their life who they can rely on, especially emotionally. It is essential that as parents you create a strong relationship, a safe, and non-judgmental space where your children can learn about mindfulness, empathy, and how to create healthy relationships.

THINGS TO DEFINITELY CORRECT OR AVOID WHEN RAISING BOYS — THE DON’TS

Once you are done laying the positive parenting techniques for your child, you should focus on attitudes and behaviors that might be leading in the wrong direction. These might be things that you might be encouraging unintentionally or intentionally.

Raising boys with such attitudes and behaviors is almost like messing up your next generation. Because these boys will grow up to be men who are emotionally unstable, toxic, misogynistic, challenged, troublesome and even bad fathers.

STOP STEREOTYPING

“This is for boys and this is for girls” is not one of the smartest ways to start your parenting journey. From a very early age, most parents would set straight rules for boys and girls differently. I understand that the aim here is mostly to make boys manly.

But stereotyping doesn’t serve the purpose. Men who were raised in stereotypical families were far more complexed, depressed, and unhappy as compared to men who were raised differently. Here are few things that you can do to avoid stereotyping:

Let your son play with whatever he likes. Playing with a kitchen set isn’t going to cause any harm

Provide examples with non-traditional gender roles. Like female pilots and male nurses.

Lead by example. Divide and share household duties with your spouse to show cleaning and kitchen are not only for women.

Ask your son to help with household chores

Always avoid comments that give girls a negative status e.g don’t cry like a girl or it’s a girl’s job to do this.

Discourage feeling of superiority

Stereotyping and treating little boys as the king of the house leads them to feel superior. It is actually one of the most toxic traits a man can have. More than anything it’s the mom who supports this feeling of superiority in a boy over anybody else by treating him differently from her daughter.

A recent survey showed that most fourth-graders which also included girls believe that their fathers rule their house. The study also showed that many young boys believe they are smarter than girls and the girls need less school than boys.

Such men grow up disrespecting and disregarding everybody in their lives, let alone the women. Instead, teach your son to be respectful regardless of gender, religion, race, or status. This is how you can raise your son to a gentleman:

TREAT YOUR CHILDREN EQUALLY

Avoid any gender-based privileges like boys can come in late but girls aren’t allowed to go past 7 pm.

In fact, treat your daughters better

Show that no gender is superior by stopping stereotyping

Teach him to respect every being by respecting them yourself first

Limit the amount of violence your son is exposed to

Boys are expected to be aggressive, tough, and violent. This is again one of those silly expectations which “prove” that he is a “man”. Such expectations have literally spoiled several generations and are on the way to do the same in the future.

The rough and tough image is not an image every man would like to go for. But the pressures from society have made it a norm. Little boys observe that behavior and then adapt it. They feel it’s completely normal to be violent and aggressive in a way that threatens others. Instead, try this:

TEACH TO RESOLVE CONFLICT WITH PEACE

Show examples in the family or around you of men who are strong yet kind and gentle

Help him to handle his emotions in an appropriate way

Accept his emotions and let him know that feeling anger and frustration is normal but he cannot threaten people

Teach him to deal with peer pressure with ease and peace

Take into account gender-based harassment

Another point that most boys find okay to do is gender-based harassment. The mindset of being superior and tough leads most boys, young and adult, towards shaming, insulting, bullying, taunting, and name-calling girls and even boys who aren’t as masculine.

Plus, they think it’s okay to harass people as it shows they are strong and everyone is below them. It is extremely toxic behavior that needs to be accounted for from a very early age. Interestingly, everything starts at home whether you realize it or not. Here’s what you need to do:

Call him out the moment you see him committing harassment

Never make a joke on someone based on their gender — because your son is always watching you

Teach him to respect others and their boundaries

Showing that there are a lot of ways to be a man/boy than being arrogant, aggressive, and shitty

Never ignore early signs of harassment like calling girls with slurry names and disregarding them because they are feminine.

TAKE AWAY

Tiny mistakes that are made continuously can make a huge shift in how your child turns out to be as an adult. And, it’s okay to make mistakes. But, it’s necessary is to identify where you might be going wrong and then correcting it as soon as you can.

Parents need to understand that treating their sons differently to their daughters, pressurizing to behave “manly”, disregarding their son’s emotions, and leading by negative examples is perhaps damaging the true personality of their son.

You don’t need to worry. The world is enough to shape your little boy into the man you hope he would become. A child spends most of his time at home observing and adapting to what their parents do. Therefore, your focus should be on giving the best environment to your son where he can actually see and learn how to be a gentleman. Rather than spoiling your son in the name of love.

GHANA CREATIVE AGENCY FORGES STRONGER CULTURAL TIES WITH LAGOS TOURISM MINISTRY

Yomi Durojaye

As a way of deepening regional collaboration, while also strengthening the creative and tourism industries across West Africa, the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Friday hosted a high-level delegation from the Ghana Creative Arts Agency at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

During the visit, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described the engagement as a strategic opportunity for knowledge exchange, institutional partnerships, and sustainable growth in the creative sector.

“Lagos does not compete. We create and collaborate,” the Commissioner said. “It is a pleasure to host our brothers and sisters from Ghana. This engagement is about synergy, shared learning, and laying a foundation for cross-border support systems that benefit creatives throughout the region.”

Highlighting Lagos’ prominent role as a cultural and creative leader in Africa, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to developing a comprehensive, year-round calendar of tourism and cultural events. She noted that consistent programming would further position Lagos as a premier destination for arts, culture, and tourism.

She also emphasised the economic potential of the creative sector, describing it as a formal industry capable of boosting the local economy when properly harnessed. “Creativity is a vast industry, and everyone has a role to play in its advancement,” she added.

The Commissioner further pledged the Ministry’s full support for the upcoming Speed Boat Racing and Creative Summit, scheduled for October 2025, describing it as an innovative platform to showcase Lagos’ waterfront culture and diverse creative talents.

She underscored the importance of institutional backing, sustainable public-private funding, and youth empowerment across all creative disciplines.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Bisi Omojare, Director of Creative Arts at the Ministry, elaborated on the Ministry’s operational framework, which encourages creatives - from architecture to comedy - to register with the Ministry. This system enables them to benefit from endorsements and receive government support for both local and international events.

Leading the Ghanaian delegation, Ag. Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency of Ghana, Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye expressed admiration for Lagos’ structured approach to cultural development and affirmed Ghana’s commitment to building similar frameworks.

“We’ve always admired Lagos from afar, and this visit has confirmed why you are regarded as a big sister in the creative space,” he said. “Our purpose here is to learn, collaborate, and grow together.”

Commenting on the transformation of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency following national reforms in 2020,  Mr. Aryeequaye suggested future immersive exchanges, joint talent showcases, and collaborative media projects that promote Afrocentric ownership of creative assets and resist cultural dilution between the two organisations.

JAMB 2025: Common Mistakes & How to Avoid Them

 Yomi Durojaye

The first day of the JAMB UTME is always intense—some candidates breeze through smoothly, while others face avoidable setbacks. If you’re writing soon, don’t let simple mistakes ruin months of preparation. Here are the biggest slip-ups from Day 1 and how to steer clear of them:

JAMB 2025: Common Mistakes & How to Avoid Them

1. Arriving Late to the Exam Centre:

One of the most heartbreaking reports from Day 1 was candidates arriving late—some by just minutes—and being turned away. Traffic, wrong directions, and oversleeping were common culprits.

How to Avoid It:

✔ Locate your centre a day before. Don’t rely on Google Maps alone—ask locals for confirmation.

✔ Leave home extra early. If your exam is at 6:30 AM, aim to arrive by 5:30 AM.

✔ Sleep early the night before. Set multiple alarms if needed.

Missing your exam over lateness is painful—don’t let it happen to you.

2. Not Reprinting the Exam Slip:

Several candidates showed up with outdated slips or none at all. Some printed theirs weeks ago and didn’t recheck for updates from JAMB.

What to Do Instead:

✔ Reprint your slip 24-48 hours before your exam.

✔ Print a physical copy (colour is best, but black & white works).

✔ Do NOT rely on your phone—you won’t be allowed to use it at the gate.

3. Forgetting Essential Materials:

JAMB doesn’t require much, but forgetting the few key items can get you disqualified.

Must-Have Items:

✅ JAMB reprint slip (with correct date & centre)

✅ HB pencil (for rough work, if allowed)

✅ Valid ID (NIN slip or school ID, if required)

✅ Transport money & light refreshments

Pack everything the night before in a transparent file.

4. Ignoring Instructions from Officials: Some candidates on Day 1 ignored simple rules—like seating arrangements or biometric procedures—and faced delays or disqualification.

Key Tips:

✔ Listen carefully to invigilators—they’re there to help.

✔ Follow biometric verification steps patiently.

✔ Stay calm and polite, even if things seem slow.

5. Panicking Over Different Question Sets: Many candidates were shocked that their questions didn’t match their neighbor’s. Some panicked, thinking theirs was harder.

The Truth:

🔹 JAMB shuffles questions to prevent cheating.

🔹 The difficulty level is the same—just the order changes.

🔹 Focus on your screen, not others’!

6. Skipping On-Screen Instructions: In their rush, some candidates missed important directions on the computer, leading to errors like early submission or unanswered questions.

What to Do:

📌 Take the first 2 minutes to read all instructions before clicking "Start."

📌 Use "Next" and "Previous" buttons carefully.

📌 Only click Submit when you’re 100% done.

7. Not Confirming Exam Details Early:

Some candidates went to the wrong centre or missed their slot because they didn’t double-check their slip.

Avoid This Mistake:

✔ Reconfirm your exam time and venue a day before.

✔ If the centre is unfamiliar, visit beforehand or ask for directions.

Final Advice for JAMB 2025 Candidates:

✅ Prepare early—don’t wait till the last minute.

✅ Rest well before your exam—a tired brain underperforms.

✅ Ignore exam "expo" scams—they’re fake and risky.

✅ Stay confident! You’ve prepared for this.

You’ve got this! Stay calm, follow these tips, and walk into that exam hall ready to succeed. Best of luck!

MC Oluomo has addressed those mocking his English, saying that while he may not be fluent, he has used his success to give his children a top-tier education.

"Go and Compete with My Children" MC Oluomo Fir£s Back at Critics Over His English

Speaking at a public gathering, he shared his journey from a bus conductor to a top-ranking official in the transport union, attributing his rise to perseverance and hard work.

He said in the viral video, "I stayed there and worked hard, I wasn't educated. See, they said I said Kundus, is my son, not Kundus? You are educated; what have you done? They should go and compete with my children. I raised my children in wealth. My children are citizens of America, citizens of the UK. I worked hard to get to that level. Kundus, kudos, what's the difference? What do you want to hear? English is not my mother tongue, Yoruba is."

His message was clear, his achievements speak louder than his grammar, and he's proud of the legacy he's building through his children.

LG Poll: Why We'Re Rooting For Obasa's Son -Agege Youth Vanguard As Group Move To Purchase APC Nomination Form For Him

Yomi Durojaye

A group,  Agege Youth Vanguard (AYV), has purchased  chairmanship nomination form  for Abdul Ganiyu Obasa, son of Speaker of  the  Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr Mudasiru Obasa.

LG Poll: Why We'Re Rooting For Obasa's Son -Agege Youth Vanguard As Group Move To Purchase APC Nomination Form For Him

Mr Ismael Garba, the Coordinator of the group, announced this at a Press conference held today in Agege, Lagos.

Garba  said the purchase of the form, which costs N5 million, was to show support  for the young Obasa and endorse him for the July 12  election .

AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa

Reports that support for Obasa to emerge as the next chairman of the local government has  grown in the area in recent days.

"The chief purpose of this gathering is to announce to you that we have a serious interest in the forthcoming local government election in Lagos in respect of Agege local government.

"Our interest is not about personal gain or to make Agege any political leader's private fiefdom as may be insinuated in some quarters.

"We will all agree that the change we desire in Nigeria can only be achieved when the country is in good hands; and key to the development of a nation is its grassroots management. Therefore, for Nigeria to get out of its present hood, our local governments must get it right.

"To us in Agege Youth Vanguard, the journey to the promised land starts with ensuring that the council does not fall into the wrong hands as regards the next Chairman and seven councilors who will manage the affairs of millions of residents and business operators that make up our community.

"Like they say in Lagos  political parlance, Itesiwaju Eko a  ju mo Jo se ni, we on our part did a thorough background checks on aspirants both for chairmanship and councillorship in all the wards based on information available to us; and arrived at the following decisions:

That the best man for the council’s Chairmanship job is Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa.

"That his academic record beat that of all other chairmanship aspirants across all the parties. For your information, he has Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield England, and a Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance from Aston University Birmingham, England.

"A PhD student at the Babcock University, Abdul-Ganiyu is an affiliate member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).

That the others' aspirants work experience are no match for his, which includes: Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), Providus Bank Limited, and Parallex Bank Limited where he was Head of Performance Management and Strategy.

"As we speak, he runs a private business, a going concern in real estate.

"That none of the chairmanship aspirants have his records in terms community service in Agege. This is marked by his football academy, VINOD, which as we speak has four football talents in Europe on the brink of signing professional contracts.

"That the fact that his father is the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly must not deny Agege of its best bet to reach a new height.

"That we will mobilise all the good people of Agege including his indifferent father to support him.

"Gentlemen of the press, we have put our money where our mouth is by contributing N5m among our members to buy APC Nomination form for Abdul-Ganiyu to enable him contest for the party primary

"In the same vein, seven councillorship aspirants across all the wards who we find worthy to manage the affairs of our local government with him will be given free APC nomination form by us.

"At this juncture, we commend the outgoing Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi(JP) for making our local government better than he met it.*

"Agege on his watch has witnessed tremendous development in terms  of infrastructure and human capital. Like they say, "The reward for good job is more job." So keep it up.*

APC LG aspirant backs Obasa’s son for Agege council poll

Yomi Durojaye

The Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government and a leading aspirant in the July 12 council election, Mr Oluwagbenga Abiola, has welcomed his party’s decision to field Abdulganiyu Obasa as the APC’s flagbearer in the upcoming local government poll.

L,-R: Hon. Gbenga Abiola and AbdulGaniyu Obasa

Abiola is a political protégé of the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly and APC leader in Agege, Mr Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos, Abiola affirmed his loyalty to the party and to Obasa.

NAN recalls that on Monday, Agege stakeholders urged Obasa to allow his son, Abdulganiyu, to contest the council chairmanship.

According to them, this would reward the Speaker’s years of humanitarian service and political impact in Agege.

Reacting to claims that he faced pressure to withdraw, Abiola said he remained deeply grateful to Obasa for shaping his political journey.

He pledged total support for the Speaker’s leadership and said he would never oppose the party’s direction or Obasa’s guidance.

Abiola stated: “Let me make it clear — I will never go against my leader, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. This is the man who made me. He appointed me Special Assistant on Media when he became Speaker in 2015. In 2016, I was appointed Sole Administrator of Agege LG, thanks to his recommendation to the governor. That appointment made me the youngest council boss in Lagos State at the time.

“In 2017, I became Secretary to the Local Government, and in 2021, Vice Chairman — all through the party’s and Speaker’s support. So tell me, why would I oppose a man who built me politically and helped me grow in experience and influence?”

He admitted his ambition to become Chairman, but insisted he must submit to the party’s collective decision.

“Yes, I aspired. Every Vice Chairman dreams of becoming Chairman. But the party has spoken, and I fully agree. Leaders and stakeholders have united. They’ve asked the Speaker to allow his son to contest. I respect and support that. I stand with Obasa, with APC Agege, and with all decisions taken by the party and stakeholders,” he added.

Abiola noted that service to people was his true goal and believed more opportunities would come in the future.

“I trust my leader. He knows what’s best and can recommend me for even greater responsibilities when the time is right. I’m still young and full of energy. I’ll work for the party and ensure we achieve victory,” he said.

He added that he had instructed members of his Obasa Youth Alliance to fully support the party’s decision.

Eniola Ajose

Stakeholders in Agege local government area of Lagos State have called on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa to let his son, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa run for the council’s chairmanship post.

Lagos LG poll: Stakeholders urge Obasa to let son run for chairmanship in Agege

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), recently announced July 12 for the chairmanship and councillorship election across the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

Ahead of the poll, aspirants from various political divides have hit the streets and online seeking to be made the candidates of their parties, with report of Lagos Speaker’s son aspiring to run for Agege council chairmanship under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the spotlight beyond the state.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Agege Stakeholders consisting of community and political leaders in the area called on Obasa to yield to their demand for his son to run for chairmanship.

“It’s our heartfelt wish that Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa rescinds his opposition to our collective aspiration of making Ganiyu Vinod Obasa our next council’s chairman.

“Our agitation stems from the indisputable fact that Vinod has the capacity to take Agege to a new height given his outstanding involvement in community service, experience, exposure and academic achievements.

“This is someone who has first and second degrees in universities in the UK in Accounting and Finance, and currently a PhD student at Babcock University.

He is equally not lacking in experience having worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC). He later joined Providus Bank before moving to Parallex Bank where he left as the Head of Performance Management and Strategy to start his own business, a going concern in the business of real estate and farming,” the spokesman for the stakeholders at the event, incumbent Executive Chairman of Agege local government, Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi said.

Egunjobi who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, which include: lawmaker representing Agege 02, Hon. Jubreel Abdulkareem, APC Party Chairman in the local government, Alhaji Tunde Disco, and Chief Safari Aderanijo further highlighted the junior Obasa’s records, saying his football academy, VINOD FA under the umbrella body, Kings Sports, is impacting positively on the community.

The stakeholders declared that the youthfulness of the Speaker’s son is consistent with what currently prevails in the council administration, adding that their motive for entreating the Speaker to support his son for the council’s chairmanship is to reward his commitments to the growth and development of Agege.

“How old was I when I became the Council Chairman 8 years ago? Same with the Vice chairman during my first term in office, he was much younger than me. Even the current Vice Chairman is way younger than me.

“We consider our earnest desire to have Abdulganiyu as our Council Chairman as a way of rewarding the numerous humanitarian endeavours of the Speaker in Agege land and beyond.

“Obasa has removed several families from poverty in terms of helping them to get jobs in the civil service and political appointments; and for most of us, this is a payback time,” Egunjobi affirmed.

How Police Recovered Firearm, ammunition Recovered From Tricycle Robbers In Lagos

The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that Alausa Police Division operatives on routine patrol spotted three men attempting to dispossess the rider his tricycle.

“Upon noticing the approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels. The officers, undeterred and determined to prevent further harm, engaged in a hot pursuit,” Mr Hundeyin said.

He said the suspects abandoned a black bag while fleeing the scene. A search of the bag revealed a Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and various charms.

The police stated that the tricyclist, who sustained machete injuries to the head and other parts of his body, was rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Centre where he is currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, commended the swift response of the officers and reiterated the Command’s commitment to the safety of residents.

Mr Hundeyin urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Last year, the police in the state announced the arrest of four suspects for allegedly stealing three tricycles belonging to a mobility company in Lagos.

According to Mr Hundeyin, the company’s secretary reported the case to the Ogudu Police Division. He stated that investigations led to the recovery of the stolen vehicles in Lagos, Ondo, and Ogun States.

“The first suspect was arrested in Ondo Town with the first tricycle. The second was arrested at Mile 12 in Lagos with the second tricycle.

The third and fourth suspects were apprehended at Idiroko, a boundary town between Lagos and Ogun States, with the third tricycle,” he said.
