Real reason I opened up on my wife’s infidelity – Comedian, Ijoba Lande

By Ayoola Olasupo

Comedian and skit maker, Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, shares with AYOOLA OLASUPO the reasons he accused his estranged wife of infidelity and how their marriage deteriorated over time.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Ganiyu Kehinde Morufu. I’m from Osogbo in Osun State, but I grew up in Ilesha. I was a vulcanizer when I was in Ilesha. When someone has not yet reached where he or she is destined to be, that person will continue hustling. So, I went to Port Harcourt, where I worked as a lottery agent. Some things happened there, and in 2010, I had to travel to Mowe-Ibafo in Ogun State to start a career in acting.

While I was learning acting there at that time, it wasn’t easy as a man to be in the limelight, especially if one isn’t rich. At that time, filmmakers were not using me. They would say I didn’t know how to act. So, I decided to hustle more. I had experience as a security guard in Ilesha, and I joined a vigilance group in Mowe, working with them for two to three years.

I then used the money I made from there to produce my first movie, which I titled Ijoba Lande. I came up with that name when I was doing the vigilante job. There was a police post at Ofada, which is now a police station, but they didn’t have enough officers. So, I was working with them as one of the security guards.

People had been calling me Lande even before I left Ilesha. There was a day I beat a little girl, and she called me ‘Lande lande ori’ (big head). When she said that, I kept beating her, and she kept repeating the same thing. That’s how people started calling me Lande. Whenever they did that, I was always angry. When I got to Mowe, people started calling me Ijoba because of the security job I was doing. So, that inspired the title of my first movie, Ijoba Lande.

How long have you been with your wife?

I’ve been with my wife since November 2022.

How many children does she have for you?

She has only one child for me; a boy, but she had two other children for someone else before I married her. She gave birth to my son on November 5, 2023.

What attributes did you see in your wife before marrying her?

Before I married her, I saw her as a good person, and from there, we tried to observe each other  for a while before we later decided to marry each other. I never knew someone could pretend the way she did. I didn’t see her as having any bad character. I saw her as a beautiful and good lady then.

How many months or years of courtship did you have with her before marrying her?

I think our courtship lasted not more than six to seven months before I married her. I met her in 2022 and got married to her that same year.

When did you start suspecting your wife of infidelity?

To be sincere, I never suspected her of such at first. When people said bad things about her, I used to swear that such could never happen. So, I never suspected her until December 2, 2024. If I had been smart enough or not love-blinded, I should have observed her character between June and July 2024, because that was when we stopped having sexual intimacy as husband and wife.

Why did you stop having sexual intimacy with her?

I went through a lot some years ago and I was depressed. She would always say that she was even more depressed than me. She would tell me that her hormones were giving her a very low libido. So, whenever she said that, I would always believe her, being my wife. I even tried to buy things to improve her libido, but she would say nothing was wrong with her and she would always complain of low libido. I didn’t know she was lying to me all this while.

What early signs did you say you ought to have noticed around July 2024?

I should have suspected her when she prevented me from having sexual intercourse with her. I should have known that she was already seeing someone else outside the marriage because when a woman has started trying all means to make sure her husband doesn’t touch her, something must be fishy. But I wasn’t thinking in that direction at all because I was plain with her.

What evidence do you have against her?

I cannot tell you until she comes online to say I am lying. I can prove my accusations against her. You know that it’s not easy for me to come out and say all of those negative things about someone who has a child for me. In fact, it didn’t occur to me to say it, and I am not happy saying it to the public, but I don’t want to lose my life. That’s why I spoke out. Before I could make such a big allegation, you know it would be a very big case for me. So, I needed to hold on to something to back it up.

Can you clarify why you said you don’t want to lose your life?

I said I didn’t want to lose my life because I have evidence; pictures and videos.

Did you catch her red-handed with someone else?

How I caught them was that someone hinted me in December, but I didn’t believe it. I wanted to confirm it. So, I contracted someone who did something to her phone that allowed me to track whatever she was doing with her phone. I used that to monitor her. I was tracking her phone, and whenever she switched on her mobile data, I would see everything on her phone. I never did that to her in four years until December last year when I started suspecting her.

What last incident prompted you to call her out online?

She left my house on January 2, 2025.

Why did she leave your house?

We were doing a group contribution, and she was the admin. One of her friends, who was my manager, did not pay her contribution on time, and my wife tried to fight her. I urged her not to because the other lady always kept her money with me. I told my wife that paying the contribution would be difficult for someone who keeps money with me often, and maybe the person didn’t have the money at that time.

I told her, ‘Na me wan collect the contribution that November.’ So, she should hold on. I told my wife that the other lady would pay whenever she had the money. The same thing happened again when another person was about to receive the contribution, but my wife’s attitude had changed towards me in the house since that July.

I didn’t realise in time that she was only trying to do some things to incite my anger. She wanted me to fight her so that she would have an excuse to leave my house. That was why when my people came to my house and saw the way she behaved to me, they saw me as ‘mugu or didinrin’ (gullible or foolish). That was because whatever she did, I would always behave as if she was right. But I didn’t want her to go.

What happened after her attitude changed?

She left my house in January; she left with my baby. I told my family, and they said I should go to her mother’s house, and when I got there, her mum didn’t even bother to ask about what happened between us. She just carried the baby and gave him to me. That’s how I left their house. But I noticed that the day she left my house, she dropped my baby off with her mum before she went to meet another man. Before she left, she took the money I received from my contribution and lent it to the same man.

There is this Divisional Police Officer who really likes me, and because of that, the DPO likes her too. So, when they saw my video interview online, the woman called me. When I got there, I met her (estranged wife) and she didn’t even bother to greet me. The DPO asked if she didn’t see me. Then she started saying all sorts of things to the DPO. The woman asked what our problem was about, and I explained everything to her.

Did your wife show any remorse after that?

My wife was not remorseful and was even telling the DPO that we were not married. I was surprised when I heard that, up to the extent that the DPO was also angry that she made such a statement. My wife was even cursing me in front of that DPO. So, about 30 minutes after I was going back home from the DPO’s office, the man whom my wife was going out with then sent me a threatening message saying, ‘If I no wan die, make I no put him name for the matter. Shebi na my wife fall in love with big boy.’

The man said I should go and look for money and stop talking about him. I also have the guy’s contact and it’s a foreign number. I have blocked him, so I can’t see his status. People screenshot what he posted on his WhatsApp status and showed me.

He said, ‘He no dey forget and hin go murder anybody wey do am bad thing.’ He snatched my wife and was still threatening me. His number on my phone and the one people showed me both correlated. It was that thing that made me speak out before anybody kills me. I didn’t know that my wife did not love me. She left because she realised that I was no longer rich like before. When she left, I had only N7,000 left in my bank account.

Have you confronted your wife before and what was her reaction?

Yes, sometimes I would wake her up in the middle of the night to ask about what was going on, but she would assure me that nothing was wrong. She would even curse herself whenever I asked if she was seeing someone else. My wife would vow that since she married me, she had never had any extra-marital affairs. Those things made me believe her.

Do you have any doubts about the paternity of your son?

To be sincere, I can’t say for now, but I will later do it. The boy really resembles me. I love him and he loves me so much too. But with the evidence that I have, what her friends told me about her and her promiscuity, it’s only a DNA test that can tell the truth. In about two or three months, I’ll get the DNA test done.

Have both families intervened in the matter?

Before the issue escalated, all my family members; my dad, elder and younger brothers, called her. They made efforts, but she did not respond, so that was why my dad said I should go to her mother’s place.

Don’t you think you did something to her in the past that caused her to change her attitude?

I can say it boldly that I had never reported her to her parents before, and she had never reported me either. We’ve never fought to the extent that she would angrily leave my house for a whole day since the day we got married. That has never happened before. It’s not as if she changed, actually.

I think she had been promiscuous since I married her, but I didn’t know until now that I was made to understand the situation. I was able to confirm that, especially now that I am no longer financially buoyant like before. It was even some of her friends who told me about her infidelity, and I have a lot of evidence to that.

You are now separated and not legally divorced. Do you plan to seek divorce?

The reason why I didn’t take any legal steps was that we had a traditional wedding. We didn’t do a court wedding because nobody has ever done that kind of wedding in my family before. She had been disturbing me about that for more than two years, but I refused because I don’t like it and I don’t understand.

Will you forgive your wife if she repents?

Sincerely, God is the forgiver of all sins. I’ve forgiven her for everything she did to me, and I’ve left everything for God to judge so that I can also receive God’s forgiveness. But for her to come back to my house, that can never happen.

Who is your child staying with now?

He’s staying with me.

Do you see the matter as a blessing in disguise?

Yes, I see the issue as a blessing in disguise. I know that I am a glorious child, and when I started acting, my glory started shining little by little, and people loved me until I got married and everything turned upside down. Now that we are no longer together, things have started changing for the better again. I was also pained that she left, but I’m just happy that she made me know on time.

KAFARU TINUBU RAMADAN LECTURE: HAMZAT ENJOINS MUSLIMS ON PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE

 Eniola Ajose

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has enjoined Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to foster a culture of peace and harmony with all individuals to promote unity and understanding in the country.

The Deputy Governor, who was the Chairman at the 16th edition of Late Alhaji Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu Annual Memorial Ramadan Lecture, held recently at the Blue Roof, LTV, Ikeja said such a call becomes imperative in the face of the current situation in Nigeria.

According to Hamzat, the call for peace highlights the urgent necessity for Nigerians from all walks of life, regardless of their ethnicity, cultural, or religious differences, to unite and work together towards a harmonious and peaceful society.

He noted that Islam, being a religion that promotes peace, compassion, tolerance, and cooperation at all levels, is thus important that Muslims continue to live in peace for the well-being of their country.

“We all know that Islam is a religion which promotes peace. So apart from fighting every ill that seeks to prevent us from serving Allah, we are enjoined as Muslims to actively seek peace. We must seek peace with our neighbours, in our families, everywhere we find ourselves,” said the Deputy Governor.

Commending the family of Late Alhaji Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu, Radio Lagos, Lagos State Television (LTV), and Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu Foundation for their commitment to the annual event of propagating Islam and providing faithful with the opportunity to engage on issues of faith, Hamzat declared that such events are relevant to Muslims and it’s important for the well-being of the country.

Proprietor, Islamic Research Training Institute (IRTI) Imam AbdulFatai AbdulMojeed, in his lecture titled: “Tax Reforms, Social Responsibilities and Importance of Zakat” stated that Tax and Zakat are different, noting that Tax is paid to the government while Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam.

The Lecturer said that it is essential for Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to pay taxes to the government for the development and growth of the community, adding that the tax reform of the President will aid continuous growth in the country.

According to him, “Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam. Muslims need to do it in truth. While tax is money that is paid to the government for the development and growth of our society which doesn't exempt anyone.”

Dr Munirudeen Salaudeen Ariyyadiy of the Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin, in his lecture tagged: “Managing Public Trust: Changing Values in our Sociology - Economic Reality and Global Trends”, talked about the perspective of Islam on the way public funds are being managed.

According to him, “Managing Public Purse is perceived as a big task, there are three things that must be well managed which are people who put others in position, people selected in positions and how do we manage earthly treasures.”

He stressed that people chosen to manage public treasures should possess qualities like a reliable background, relevant experience in managing such properties and personal attributes.

Ariyyadiy noted that people chosen to manage the public purse should be well taken care of, and monitored and must not see it as an opportunity to embezzle the wealth.

Harmony Gardens Takes A Swipe At Sahara Reporters Over Defamatory Publication Against Its CEO, Dr. Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa As It Seeks Apology, Legal Redress

 Eniola Ajose

The management of Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, has officially reacted to the misleading and malicious story fabricated by Sahara Reporters on Friday March 7, 2025 which purported that the CEO of the organization, Dr. Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa was shot by the personnel of Nigerian Navy and that his security aides were overpowered and detained at the naval base in the Oko Orisan near one of the Hon. Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa Majestic Bay Estate area of Epe, Lagos State.

The management wondered why Sahara Reporters was always known for peddling fake news about harmony Gardens and the CEO , promoting almost 21  falsehoods links on Sahara report with penchant for blackmail journalism and brazenly violating other ethical considerations required in professional and excellent journalism.

It further clarified that there was no altercation between its CEO and any military personnel in Epe but the Naval officers was infiltrated by Hire Assassin  who went inside his estate to assassinate him while also adding that Dr. Mosadoluwa was never shot at Naval Authority instruction but hire assailant nor his security aides attacked or detained.

The management maintained that the story should be dismissed in its entirety for lack of merit and truth.

Although the management admitted that some armed naval officers forcefully gained access to their Estate while some assailants also attempted to assassinate the CEO alongside some customers on the said day.

Narrating the ordeal further, the management decried the inter-agency rivalry that ensued between the mobile police officers and the naval personnel whereby vehicles were shot at within the premises and some of the armed mobile policemen on guard were also disarmed by the military personnel in flagrant abuse of power..

However, the intervention of Dr. Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa according to the management brought calm and normalcy embarrassing situation, adding that police and Naval authorities are now on top of the matter to ascertain truth

BEN-GURION, UNILAG STUDENTS VISIT LAWMA … Explore Waste Management Strategies

 Eniola Ajose

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Tuesday, hosted students and faculty members from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as part of their study tour on urban challenges and environmental sustainability.

The delegation, led by Prof. Lynn Schler, Head of the African Studies Department at Ben-Gurion University, Israel, was welcomed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who provided an overview of LAWMA’s role in ensuring cleanliness across Lagos and its efforts to promote environmental sustainability.

He stated that LAWMA, established in 1977, emerged from the need to address the state's waste crisis experienced earlier, adding that the agency’s operations aligned with the THEMES+ agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, with emphasis on health and environment.

Gbadegesin identified climate change as a major challenge, contributing to the influx of migrants to the state, many of whom take up scavenging as a means of survival, noting that LAWMA was working on properly integrating them into the waste management system in the state, through the 'Last Man Collector' initiative.

"We have approximately 3,000 scavengers at the Olusosun dumpsite alone. So far, we have enumerated about 5,000 of them, and our goal is to transition them to be better structured in the waste collection roles," he explained.

He further disclosed LAWMA’s plan to establish an upcycling center in Otto, one of the state’s oldest communities, with the aim of training young people in upcycling and other sustainable waste management practices, shifting from simply cleaning the state to implementing sustainable solutions that prevent waste from reaching public spaces.

Prof. Schler commended LAWMA’s waste management and environmental sustainabilty initiatives, applauding the Authority’s leadership and forward thinking strategies.

"If this were the only activity on our study tour, it would have been entirely worthwhile. The leadership and forward-thinking strategies at LAWMA are truly inspiring", she said.

Shira Lahav, a student of Ben-Gurion University, expressed her excitement about the program, emphasising the importance of international collaboration. "This experience exceeded my expectations. Learning about Lagos and its waste management system has been incredibly insightful," she said.

A history and strategic studies student from UNILAG, Femi Anjola Elizabeth, who joined the Israeli students on the tour, admitted that she knew little about how waste collection worked in Lagos before the visit.  She said, "I have seen PSP operators in my area, but today, I have gained a much deeper appreciation of the system."

The event also featured a question-and-answer session, where the students and faculty members engaged with the LAWMA boss on critical issues bordering on LAWMA’s operations, providing valuable insights into the challenges and solutions shaping waste management in one of Africa’s most populous cities.

SANWO-OLU INAUGURATES NEW BUS STATION IN ABULE EGBA

Abule Egba suburb in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been integrated into the growing network of Lagos communities connected by modernised public bus stations.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal to aid and enhance seamless mass transportation from the suburb to other parts of the metropolis.

The imposing transport infrastructure, which is strategically situated close to Lagos Red Line corridor, provides a convenient transport route for passengers to board, exit buses and connect to other forms of transportation.

Sanwo-Olu said the project was another milestone recorded in his administration’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the State’s public transportation system with modern and sustainable infrastructure in order to enable the facilities meet up Lagosians’ commuting aspirations.

The Governor said the new bus terminal reflected his commitment to continuously enhance public transportation systems, strengthening connectivity and improving the overall experience for commuters.

He said: “Six years ago, we made a pledge to the people of Lagos that we would upgrade the State’s public transportation system with modern, sustainable infrastructure to enable them meet up their daily aspirations. Today, we are here in Abule Egba within Orile-Agege LCDA to handover yet another modernised bus terminal to our residents in fulfillment of our promise.

“This is a public bus terminal that will aid seamless commuting from here to other parts of Lagos. This infrastructure reflects our commitment to continuously enhancing public transportation systems, strengthening connectivity, and improving the overall experience for commuters. We are dedicated to taking ongoing steps to advance and modernise transportation across the State.”

Sanwo-Olu said his administration’s vision was not only to enhance mobility but also to catalyse urban and economic growth through interconnected transportation networks where residents would have choices to commute by rail, water or land.

He disclosed that his Government was building two additional interchange hubs in Marina and Mile 2, while another bus terminal is at the advanced stage of construction in Iyana Ipaja axis.

To further make intracity rail transport accessible to residents, Sanwo-Olu announced a 30 per cent reduction in fares for Lagos Red Line service, bringing down the fares from N1,500 to N1,000.

The Governor said the State was expecting the arrival of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and electric buses by the third quarter of the year to enhance bus services.

The addition, he said, would expand the State’s current fleet, while also increasing the availability of buses and reducing waiting times at bus stops for commuters.

Urging residents in the area to take ownership of the project, Sanwo-Olu said: “This infrastructure has been made possible through your tax contributions. I urge you to take pride in it, protect it, and ensure that it remains safe from any harm or damage. By safeguarding these assets, we can all benefit from their long-term value and continue to build a better future for our community.”

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, observed that the State’s strategic transportation policy emphasised provision of modern infrastructure to reduce travel time, while ensuring safety.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Wale Musa, said the State’s transportation policy was built upon a foundation of inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation.

“This policy embodies the government’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options for all residents, regardless of their socio-economic status or location within the state as well as the integration of our various modes of transport system,” the Commissioner said.

Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, noted that sustainable infrastructure remained the backbone that would make seamless connectivity possible in a transport system.

She said: “Bus terminals are important because they offer central location for passengers to board and connect to other forms of transportation. To date, the Lagos Government has provided bus terminals in Ikeja, Oshodi, Ajah, Oyingbo, Yaba, Ojota, Ifako Ijaiye and now at Abule Egba. Iyana Ipaja bus terminal will soon join the list.”

Notable features in the Abule Egba terminal include loading bays, a terminal building with a customer service area, a waiting area, spaces for restaurants and other commercial services, offices for ground staff, public conveniences, a water treatment plant and provision for green energy, among others.

Tinubu approves conversion of YABATECH to university

AgegePulse Magazine

…As minister lauds college management

By Adesina Wahab

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, on Friday, said President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH, to a university.

Tinubu approves conversion of YABATECH to university

He disclosed the news to the management, staff, and students of the college during a working visit to the institution.

“The rector said some minutes ago that the staff, students, and management of the college have been praying and fasting that it be converted to a university. Somehow, you have kind of ambushed me, but I must let you know that when I discussed the issue with President Bola Tinubu, he did not waste time in approving. I am just waiting for the memo and other necessary protocols from the appropriate quarters.

“This school is a legacy, and with over 200 staff members holding doctorate degrees in various fields, it is more than ready and fit to become a university. All the credit about this should go to the president, who loves education and is concerned about giving the best to the youths who are our future leaders,” he stated.

Alausa, who went around the college to inaugurate and inspect some projects, expressed satisfaction with the maintenance culture of the management that has kept most of the facilities in good shape despite their age.

“I commend you for pursuing excellence, and we need innovation and investments in technology for development, and I can assure you that the federal government would back you up,” he added.

He stressed further that one of the reasons the Tinubu administration is focusing on technical and vocational education and adding entrepreneurship to it is to stem the Japa Syndrome.

“We are not taking the issue of artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, and others with levity. We know that if our youths are good at those things, they can be in Nigeria and be working for firms in many parts of the world, and they will be earning foreign exchange. That will help stem this Japa of a thing, where people would travel abroad to do menial jobs,” he stated.

In Europe and other places, the focus has been on incorporating TVET to become a core aspect of their education system, and that is what we are doing now. We need education that would aid manufacturing and technological innovations and that would also lead to a robust private sector, which will drive societal growth and development,” he opined.

Earlier, the rector, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, said with over 200 PhD holders in its services, YABATECH was more than qualified to become a university.

“While we are praying that we become a university, we don’t want to become just one of those universities. We want to be a university of technical and vocational education that would bring innovation and also solve societal problems and challenges and contribute greatly to the advancement of our dear country. We have the manpower, and we just need the support of the government in this regard,” he stated.

Abdul reeled out the various achievements of his administration and said the management would not relent in raising the stakes higher.

Residents of Lagos State have expressed deep concern over the failure of streetlights across the metropolis, leaving many areas in darkness and vulnerable to crime and accidents.

How Lagos Residents Cry Out Over Failing Streetlights: "We Are Afraid to Walk at Night

The lack of functioning streetlights has become a persistent problem in Lagos, Africa's largest city and economic hub. Many streets are plunged into darkness at night, putting pedestrians and drivers at risk.

"I'm scared to walk on the road at night because of the darkness," said Mrs. Oyinlola, a resident of Ikeja. "The streetlights are not working, and it's an invitation to criminals."

The failing streetlights have turned many areas into danger zones, prone to accidents and crime. Motorists are forced to navigate through dark roads, increasing the risk of accidents.

Lagos State Government has been urged to take immediate action to repair and maintain the streetlights, ensuring the safety and security of residents.

"We need functioning streetlights to prevent accidents and crime," said Mr. Johnson, a resident of Surulere. "The government must take responsibility for our safety."

The Lagos State Government has been approached for comment, but no response has been received at the time of going to press.

The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted claims that the Junior and Senior Secondary School (JSS and SSS) system has been scrapped, clarifying that no such policy change has been implemented.

Federal Government Has Not Scrapped JSS, SSS – Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa Debunks Rumors

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the reports circulating in the media were misleading, stating that the government has only proposed a 12-year basic education system, which is still under review.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, the ministry stressed that the proposal remains subject to approval by the National Council on Education (NCE) before any final decision is made.

“A key aspect of this proposal is to eliminate the examination barrier between JSS and SSS, allowing students to progress seamlessly without external assessments at that stage. However, this remains subject to further consultation and deliberation,” the statement read.

To ensure a well-informed decision, the ministry announced plans to engage with key stakeholders, including education policymakers, state governments, teachers, and parents over the next eight months. The final decision on whether to adopt the proposed reform will be made at the National Council on Education meeting scheduled for October 2025.

The ministry urged the public to disregard misleading claims and assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to implementing policies that enhance access to quality education while aligning with global best practices.
