AMBODE SWEARS IN SIX NEW PERMANENT SECRETARIES

...Tasks Appointees To Add Value To Governance

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday swore-in six new Permanent Secretaries into the State Public Service, with a charge on them to contribute to the ongoing efforts by his administration to build a modern smart-city for the benefits of residents and visitors.

Speaking at the brief but impressive swearing-in ceremony held at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the vision to transform the State could only be actualized when abilities were matched with responsibilities, and as such it was incumbent on the new appointees to add value to governance and contribute to the realization of the State’s short, medium and long term plans.

“We believe strongly that our State Public Service deserves nothing but the best. Our vision to build a Modern Smart City-State can only be driven and actualized by matching ability with responsibility. This is a key philosophy which has guided all our actions since we assumed office.

“I have no doubt in your capability to add value to governance and contribute to the realization of this administration’s short, medium and long term plans,” the Governor said.

While congratulating the appointees, Governor Ambode said the decision to elevate them was not only informed by the need to fill the vacancies created by some Permanent Secretaries who recently bowed out of service having attained the retirement age, but more importantly on account of the fact that they possess qualities which stand them out among others.

The Governor particularly urged the appointees to align their actions with the overall policy objectives of his administration which include selfless service, inclusive governance, fair and just distribution of resources among the people as well as deployment of best global practices in service delivery.

“I look forward to seeing your positive impact in the State Public Service especially in the area of improved efficiency and effectiveness with which government business is handled, keeping in mind that we can only be adjudged to have done the right thing when our people are happy and satisfied,” the Governor admonished the appointees.

The new Permanent Secretaries and their portfolios are Mrs Bamidele Fadipe, Office of Civic Engagement; Mr Bashir Braimah, Public Service Office; Mrs Raji Ganiyat, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment; Mrs Omotola Akinsanya, Local Government Establishment, Training and Pension; Mrs Olufunmilayo Okeowo, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary Education District Four; and Mrs Adeleye Olatokunbo, Teachers Establishment and Pensions Office.

In his vote of assurance on behalf of the new appointees, Braimah thanked Governor Ambode for finding them worthy to serve the State in the highest capacity in the public service, just as he assured that they would hit the ground running to contribute to the development of the State.

“As your foot soldiers, we have hit the ground running with competence, commitment and concern for a better Lagos. For the confidence reposed in us, we are eternally grateful and we shall add our plough to the various deliverables to which Lagosians are accustomed,” Braimah said

Christian pilgrims urged to be good ambassadors

The Lagos State Government has urged intending Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem and Rome to shun all vices capable of bringing disrepute to the image of the State and Nigeria while in the Holy Land.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Toyin Awoseyi gave the advice during the Y2017 Dedication Service for Intending Pilgrims to Jerusalem and Rome themed "Proclaiming Christ By Serving The Nation", held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

Awoseyi counselled the pilgrims to pray for the sustenance of peace and unity in the country, portray the image of Lagos State positively and resolve to be good ambassadors of the State and the country at large.

While praying for journey mercies for the pilgrims, Awoseyi advised them to embark on the pilgrimage with the intention of achieving spiritual rebirth by focusing on the spiritual aspect of the exercise.

The Permanent Secretary added that the only way the intending pilgrims could have powerful and life-changing testimonies after the pilgrimage is by making adequate preparations before embarking on the journey, stressing that holy pilgrimage started from the day the decision to embark on the journey was conceived.

The Acting Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel, Very Reverend Ayo Olu Oyadotun, in his sermon, stressed the need for the intending pilgrims to have truthful intention as they embark on the journey with the objective of experiencing a genuine encounter with God.

Reverend Oyadotun further advised the pilgrims to be mindful of their conduct while on the pilgrimage and desist from all acts that could make their journey to Jerusalem and Rome a wasted effort.

”You should have a genuine concern for God and make the decision to become better persons and citizens after the whole pilgrimage exercise,” he said.

The Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Yetunde Gbafe, counselled the intending pilgrims on the appropriate diet, the kind of clothing suitable for the journey and the expected general conduct before, during and after the Holy pilgrimage.

She highlighted other necessary details relating to feeding, sight visit in Jerusalem and Rome as well as the history and culture of the people.

Our achievements would have been impossible without Civil Servants – Ambode

…Swears-in new five new Perm Secs

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday commended the State Public Service for contributing immensely to the achievements recorded by his administration in the last two and a half years in office, saying the feats would have been impossible without the support of civil servants.

Speaking at the State Executive Chambers in Alausa, Ikeja while swearing-in five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Governor Ambode said since assumption of office on May 29, 2015, efforts have been made to fulfill the promises made to Lagosians, and that it was indeed gratifying that civil servants in the State not only keyed into his vision of a vibrant Lagos but have also been working hard and committed to making the plan a reality.

“In the last two and a half years, our administration has worked relentlessly to fulfill our promises to Lagosians. Our modest achievements in these past months would not have been possible without the support of the public service, most especially our Permanent Secretaries who have not only keyed into our vision of a vibrant Lagos but have also ensured that it becomes a reality through commitment and hard work,” Governor Ambode said.

He said aside the fact that Permanent Secretaries have been working hard to ensure the progress of the State, other officers from directors down the ladder of the civil service have equally been performing creditably well, adding that he was indeed appreciative of their dedication to duty, commitment and service to the State.

The new Permanent Secretaries, who have since been assigned portfolios, are Mrs. Ibirogba Clara Omotilewa (Office of Establishment and Training); Mr. Ogunnubi Timothy Olukayode (Ministry of Science and Technology); Dr. (Mrs.) Are Suwebat Iyabo (Primary Healthcare Board); Dr. Salaam Taiwo Olufemi (Ministry of Transportation); and Mrs. Awobamise Kofoworola Omotayo (Ministry of Information and Strategy).
While congratulating the appointees, Governor Ambode said their elevation was not just about filling the vacancies created by those who have retired, but a way of rewarding hard work and diligence, as well as a reaffirmation that any member of any discipline could rise to the peak in the civil service.

He said according to available facts, the new Permanent Secretaries as directors, demonstrated loyalty and commitment through active involvement in the implementation of some of the policies of the present administration, just as he expressed optimism that their appointment would be a source of encouragement to all officers who are diligent in the discharge of their duties as civil servants.

Besides, Governor Ambode charged the new appointees to contribute their quota to the development of the State and add value to governance.
“To the new appointees, it is my belief that you will continue to contribute your quota to the development of the State. This is no time to relent on your hard work but rather a time for you to come up with new ideas and innovation that will add value to our State in the way and manner government policies are implemented for the greater benefit and service of our people.

“I charge all of you to rededicate yourselves to the tenets of the public service reforms we have embarked on and prove to the rest of the service your justification for the new elevation,” the Governor said.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Ibirogba thanked Governor Ambode for the opportunity given to them to serve the State, assuring that they would hit the ground running to uphold the vision and mission statements of their respective MDAs and also ensure that result-oriented policies are delivered.
