LAGOS BANS CART PUSHERS, WHEEL BARROW OPERATORS FROM STREETS

The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced a total ban on the operations of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators in the State, saying that their activities were inimical to the environmental cleanliness in the State.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello, the State Government said that with the flag off of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), the continuous activities of cart pushers will pose a threat to the success of the initiative.

Bello said that investigations had also revealed that the cart pushers are responsible for most of the illegal dumping of waste in canals and road medians at night which causes flooding, adding that aside constituting environmental nuisance, they were also traces of security threats.

“What the State Government has discovered is that these set of people use the night to perpetrate all sorts of dastardly acts. They dump refuse indiscriminately on the median of major roads and highways. They also pose serious security threats because they use those carts to hide arms and ammunitions and hide under the guise of carrying refuse to rob unsuspecting residents”, the SSG said.

He said the State Government has finalised plans to ensure that the CLI would cover every area of the State and ensure that refuse are well packed and collected, urging residents to desist from patronising them or risk prosecution.

“The State Government has declared zero tolerance for the activities of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators. Security agencies in the State have been directed to ensure that those found still operating are arrested and prosecuted according to the State Environmental Laws.”

“The law also applies to residents who patronise cart pushers. It is an offence and the State Government would not hesitate to enforce the law to put a stop to such practice,” Bello said.

Pen Cinema FlyOver: Agege Community rally support  for Governor Ambode, Lagos Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Hon. Honourable Oluyinka Ogundimu over infrastructural development in Agege

Agege Pulse Magazine

The Executive Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi visited the site today and allayed fears of residents of Agege saying Gov. Ambode will compensate owners of affected structures appropriately.

Egunjobi urged the residents to be calm adding that their utmost cooperation is imperative to the success of the project.

Hon. Richard Osanyinpeju who also spoke to us, said the bridge would decongest traffic on that axis adding that it would also bring socio-economic development to Agege when completed by November this year.

However, some of the aggrieved residents who according to a rumor gathered by Agege Pulse, had said they didn't want the proposed pen cinema bridge because of the enormous demolition of properties and fear of inadequate compensation, thereafter, appreciated and thanked the Chairman for his swift response to their yearning.

The cursory briefing was well attended by many stakeholders in Agege. They all promised to give needed support to the contractors all the construction  period.

Also, they promised to pay back Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and Honourable Oluyinka Ogundimu their votes come 2019 for the massive infrastructural projects brought to Agege and environs.

Gani Adams lauds Ambode's role in S'West integration

…Visits Alausa, Says State Witnessing Massive Transformation

…We’re Committed To Progress Of Yoruba Race, Says Lagos Gov

The Aare Ona Kakanfo Designate, Otunba Gani Adams on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos House in Alausa Ikeja, where he commended his role in the political and economic integration of the South West Region.

Adams, who said he was in Lagos to pay homage as well as invite the Governor to his installation scheduled for January 13, alluded to the fact that Governor Ambode since assumption of office has taken the growth of the South West region to heart.

"I want to thank you for your role in the South West integration. I believe that Lagos is south West even though it’s the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, in your own tenure, I have realised that you are more interested in the integration of the South West and we are Yorubas no matter where we come from, thank you so much for that”, Adams said.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo Designate also lauded Governor Ambode, noting that it was in his tenure that Lagos joined the Oodua Investment Group, an initiative tailored towards expanding the economic integration of the South West Region.

"I have realised that in your own tenure, you clearly came out to support Oòduà Investment. So, its important for any Governor of Lagos State to support the Group, because about 50 to 60 percent of Oòduà investment is in Lagos and as the number one citizen and Chief Security Officer, its a good direction and God will bless you for that ".

Commending the developmental strides in Lagos, Adams said the Governor in the last two and half years had succeeded in giving the State a major facelift, adding that appreciable level of progress has been recorded across the State.

"I am so particular about the Light up Lagos. If I am driving from the Island anytime from 8pm, I always ask my Chief of Staff or driver if we are in Europe or we are still in Nigeria or the same Lagos that we are living before?

"I think that anyone that gives light, gives life, by giving light to Lagos State, you are giving life to Lagos State and the more you keep on lighting up Lagos, God will continue to develop Lagos State," he said.

He said his visit to Lagos House was also to establish a relationship with the State Government going forward.

"Chief Obafemi Awolowo said that there is no permanent enemy or permanent friend in politics. No matter anything that has happened I want to build a relationship with you, personally, with the Lagos State Government and with the people of Lagos," the Aare Ona Kakanfo Designate said.

Responding, Governor Ambode said Lagos over the years has remained the heartbeat of the future of the Yoruba race, assuring that no stone would be left unturned to engender South West integration as well as preserve its rich heritage and culture.

He said his administration remains firmly committed to the economic and political integration of the South West and would continue to support initiatives towards its success.

“We believe so much in the Yoruba race, we believe so much that Lagos remains the bull work of the future of the Yoruba race and we would not let the Yoruba race down. Yes, we believe so much in Nigeria but we know where we are from and we know that everything that binds us together as one we would continue to support,” he said.

Congratulating the Aare Ona Kakanfo Designate, Governor Ambode said the title was one of the most significant in the Yoruba culture, noting that the emergence of Otunba Gani Adams clearly shows that the economic integration and political cohesion of the South West region was on course.

“This visit is not ordinary, it’s significant for us. It also shows that we are embodiment of the Yoruba heritage. We support fully, the ascension of the title, Aare Ona Kakanfo in the person of Otunba Gani Adams. What the State Government is trying to do this morning is to say that the Yoruba culture and the Yoruba heritage must not be left in tatters and just as he has said, this title is one of the most significant titles that actually bind the Yoruba culture together.

“So for us, for Otunba Gani Adams to have been so chosen divinely as the next Aare Ona Kakanfo, it shows that what we have been speaking about the economic integration and the political cohesion of the Yoruba race is in good hands,” the Governor said.

While thanking the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi for choosing Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Governor Ambode said the title comes with some deference, authority and responsibility, assuring Otunba Adams that the State Government would offer support to make his tenure a success.

“We as a government, beyond the fact that we would support you, we would also put you in prayers that whatever the responsibility is, God in his infinite mercies will support you; you would  be the most successful Aare Ona Kakanfo that the Yoruba race has ever had. Because we are involved, we would make sure that everything that has to do with the Yoruba heritage, everything that has to do with the Yoruba culture, we would protect with all our heart,” the Governor said.

INFRASTRUCTURE: PEN CINEMA FLYOVER, LAGOS ALLAYS FEAR OF STAKEHOLDERS OVER COMPENSATION

...Says Prompt Submission Of Documents ‘ll Enhance Payment Process

The Lagos State Government on Monday allayed the fears of property owners affected by removal of structures for the construction of the Pen Cinema Flyover, assuring that all would be compensated in due course.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Abiola Anifowoshe, the government specifically debunked media reports suggesting that it was unnecessarily delaying compensation, saying those whose structures were demolished would be paid.

Anifowoshe said the State Government had already held a stakeholders' meeting with the affected property owners during which the details of the flyover project were presented to the stakeholders.

According to Anifowoshe, “It was instructive that the stakeholders at the meeting welcomed the development and the Lagos State Government secured their buy-in.

"The government representatives at the meeting also urged the people to submit all relevant documents showing proof of ownership. Our officials served all the statutory notices and even gave more than enough time for the affected property owners to be aware of the removal.

“Also, there were newspaper publications to that effect stating government intention and expectations from the people. As a matter of fact, many of such have been submitted to my office and the compensation process has commenced fully,” the Commissioner said.

Alluding to the fact that the construction of the flyover was in a bid to bring about development and end the perennial traffic situation in Agege axis, Anifowoshe said the State Government had to remove its own staff buildings belonging to the Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC) to give way for the project.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all residents of LSDPC in Agege that the Lagos State Government will compensate everyone involved and also to all other privately-owned property owners that the government understands their plight and is working tirelessly to ensure that those affected are compensated,” he said.

While emphasizing that prompt submission of relevant documents would facilitate the process of payment, the Commissioner urged all affected property owners who are yet to produce their planning documents such as Certified Registered Title Document of Properties within the said Right of Way, Approved Building Plan Permit for the affected structures and any other relevant documents as proof of ownership, to do so without delay.

“We like to urge them to submit their documents to the Office of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Block 15, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja to ensure that all affected owners are compensated appropriately.

“In conclusion, the Lagos State Government hereby reiterates its commitment towards ensuring that there is even development across the State. By the time the Pen Cinema Flyover construction is completed, there will be traffic decongestion in the axis and this will enhance the socio-economic development of Agege and environs,” Anifowoshe said.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday expressed optimism that the State will experience new and wonderful milestones this year.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the State's 2018 Annual Thanksgiving Service held at the Lagos House in Ikeja with the theme, 'Ceaseless Praise', said that despite the several economic and security challenges that enveloped some parts of the country, Lagos has continued to experience peace and prosperity over the years.

Attributing the steady progress of the State to divine intervention and the grace of God, the Governor said he was confident that the State would record more landmark achievements throughout the year.

"Since the inception of this administration, we have called on God at the beginning of the year and our prayers have been prophetic as He always granted our desires beyond our expectations. At a time when the nation was in recession, our State was experiencing economic growth and while there was insecurity in other places, Lagos remains calm and peaceful.

"This is not as a result of what the Government has done but by the special grace of God. And all we need to do is continue to give Him praise and thanksgiving and He will continue to bless and provide for us as Lagosians and a State.

"In this New Year, we submit to Him again and I am confident that irrespective of whatever is happening elsewhere, our State and all our people will continue to excel in peace, good health, prosperity, love and joy. God will continue to shower His blessings on us as a State and our families and homes will experience new and wonderful milestones by His grace," Governor Ambode said.

He said the Annual Thanksgiving Service presents an opportunity to commit the affairs of the State to God, in acknowledgement of His supreme power in the development of the State.

"It is my prayer that as we come to His Gates and Courts with thanksgiving and with praises today, He will release His blessings upon us, guide and direct our path and lead us through the year successfully," Governor Ambode said.

The Governor also used the occasion to appreciate the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Mrs Folu Adeboye and other religious leaders for their prayers and support for the State since the inception of his administration.

"I offer my sincere gratitude to all our religious leaders for your presence today and continued support for the peace and progress of Nigeria and Lagos in particular. God bless you all," he said.

In his sermon, General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye urged  Nigerians to draw closer to God, assuring that when they do so, they will continue to enjoy special favour and blessings from God.

Why Parts of Nigeria Will Experience Total Blackout This Year - Ministry of Power

Agege Pulse Magazine

The series of dramas bedeviling the growth and development of Nigeria is not ending soon. This is because while Nigerians were still rejoicing that the country's power generation hits all time high as stated by President Muhammadu Buhari in his New Year message, another unforeseen crisis has rocked the epileptic power sector.

In a statement from the ministry of power on Wednesday on the current blackout being experienced across the country since Tuesday, Agege Pulse learnt that a fire incident gutted the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System of the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd (NGPTC), thereby causing shutdown of the pipeline supplying gas to Nigeria's largest power plant, Egbin.

The statement reads in pairs:

1. Regrettably, after a sustained period of increasing production and distribution of power since September, the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd (NGPTC) has reported a fire incident on its Escravos Lagos Pipeline System on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2018.

2. The incident requires a shutdown of the pipeline supplying gas to Egbin 1,320MW; Olorunsogo NIPP 676MW, Olorunsogo 338MW, Omotosho NIPP 450MW, Omotosho 338 MW and Paras 60MW power stations.

3. The sudden loss of generation due to interruption in gas supply from these stations caused the national transmission grid to trip off around 20:20 on 2nd January 2018. The national transmission grid is owned and operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

4. Most of Nigeria's power generation is from thermal power stations that require gas for fuel. The gas is produced by oil and gas companies overseen by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

5. The gas is delivered to the power stations through pipelines owned and operated by Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd (NGPTC), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

6. TCN and the generation companies are working to restore operation of the national grid.

7. Once the national grid is restored output from the hydroelectric power stations and all other unaffected gas fired thermal power stations will be increased to the extent possible to minimize the impact of loss of generation from the affected power stations.

8. We urge members of the public to bear with us as we work to overcome this set back which will be temporary.

SECURITY: LAGOS POLICE ARREST BADOO CULT LEADER, CHIEF HERBALIST

...Demolish Shrine In Imosan Village

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday made a major breakthrough in the fight against the menace of Badoo cult with the arrest of the group's herbalist, Fatai Adebayo alias Alese.

The notorious activities of the dreaded cult group prevalent in Ikorodu and Epe axis of the State had sent many of the victims to their early graves with cruel killings through the smashing of mortar and pestle on victims' heads.

Adebayo, 34, who specializes in administering oath on members of the group before they launch any attack, was arrested at his shrine located in Imosan Village, a suburb of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The arrest of the herbalist followed the arrest of some Badoo cult suspects at the weekend including the overall head of the group.

Speaking while parading Adebayo before newsmen at the shrine, the State's Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal said the head of the group was arrested on water during an attempt to escape.

The CP, who led the operation involving the Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), ACP Tunji Disu; Chairman of Lagos State Special Task Force, SP Yinka Egbeyemi, among others, said investigation was still ongoing but that the full details about the arrests made so far would be disclosed on Thursday at a press briefing.

He said: "Over the weekend, we had far reaching achievement in the fight against the killers popularly known as Badoo in Ikorodu.

"Their kingpin who is the head of the group has been arrested. He was arrested on water as he was making his escape."

Revealing how the herbalist was arrested, Edgal said: "One of the suspects arrested confessed and he led us here that before they go for any killing, the head of the group brings them to this gentleman (Adebayo) to come and carry out oath for both themselves and the piece of stone they used for their killings and that they don't go for any killing without first of all coming for oath in this shrine and that is why we are here.

"This gentleman is an accomplice before the fact and so definitely we are placing him under arrest and as well as sealing off the shrine till after investigation.

"I will give further details on Thursday during my press briefing but I can assure the good people of Ikorodu, Lagosians and Nigerians that we will not rest until this evil is completely rooted out from Lagos State," Edgal assured.

The CP also made a brief stop-over at the palace of the traditional ruler of Imosan Village, Chief Tajudeen Muili to intimate him of the criminal activities going on under his domain.

At the shrine located at No 38, Ayegbami Quarters in Imosan, which was later demolished by policemen, there were different charms and big stones said to be used for the illicit activities of the Badoo group.

PEN CINEMA FLYOVER WILL BE READY IN 10 MONTHS- AMBODE

...Visits Construction Site, Assures Property Owners Of Full Compensation

AgegePulse Magazine

...Appeals For Cooperation Of Community Leaders, Residents

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday inspected the site of the ongoing construction of the Pen Cinema Flyover, assuring that the project will be delivered in the next 10 months.

Governor Ambode, accompanied by key members of his cabinet, said the 1.4km Flyover which will run from Agege down to the Abeokuta Expressway, will be a key intervention strategy by his administration to address the perennial traffic often associated with the area.

Addressing scores of residents who thronged out to catch a glimpse of him, Governor Ambode said though the project might bring about some inconveniences, he assured them that the end result will change the face of Agege forever.

"I greet all the people in Agege community. This year will be a prosperous year for all of you. You know, I've always wanted to do something in this community, I want to reduce the sufferings that arise from the traffic congestion in this neighbourhood, so I have decided to do the Pen Cinema Flyover starting from the beginning of this road by Total and then run straight for one kilometre down and then an additional 400metres, totalling 1.4km to decongest this neighbourhood up to the Abeokuta Expressway.

"But you can see that I have inconvenienced you by the demolition that has taken place here. It is temporal. In the next 10 months by the grace of God, we will deliver this project by November 2018," he said.

Appealing to residents and community leaders to cooperate with the contractor ahead of the planned closure of some parts of the road from Thursday, January 4, Governor Ambode assured residents whose properties were demolished to give way for the project would be adequately compensated.

“They are going to work day and night. But why am I here? First to appeal to you for those that we have demolished their properties, we will compensate you fully. Secondly, starting from Thursday, January 4, there would be partial closure of some of the roads here, so we have provided alternative routes where your vehicles will be passing. So, we would do this month by month, so that the area that we have finished, we would come back to the main road and Agege would never be the same again.

“We are bringing prosperity to your doorstep and I have come to appeal to everybody, community leaders, all our school children that you should not worry, it has come with a little pain, but by the time we come back at the end of the year, Agege will look like Victoria Island and Ajah. Everywhere we go, we know there is economic prosperity around that neighbourhood, so my coming here is to plead with you to bear with us and cooperate with us,” the Governor said.

While noting that the contractor will work day and night to deliver the project on schedule, the Governor said he would visit the site of the construction regularly to ensure the project is completed on time.

Earlier, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr. Ade Akinsanya, while giving a brief of the project said on completion, it will permanently address the gridlock in the Agege axis.

Akinsanya said the planned restriction of movement will enable the contractor take full advantage of the weather and space to deliver seamlessly the critical aspect of the flyover construction that falls within the Pen Cinema roundabout and railway crossing at Old Abeokuta Road junction.

Governor Ambode also inspected the ongoing construction of the Oshodi Transport Interchange which is expected to be delivered by July 2018.

The project, on completion, will create a world class central business district with focus on transportation, security, environment and urban renewal.

The interchange has three-multi-storey bus terminals with waiting area, loading bays, ticketing stands, drivers lounge, parking areas, conveniences, surveillance tower and CCTV gadgets.

Other features include accessible walkways, pedestrian b

PEN CINEMA BRIDGE: LAGOS TO ENFORCE PARTIAL RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT JAN 4

…Announces Traffic Diversion Routes

AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State Government on Monday announced plans to enforce partial restriction of movement for motorists in Agege axis to accelerate the ongoing construction of Pen Cinema Flyover starting from January 4, 2018.

In a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Olujimi Hotonu, the State Government said there would be a complete closure of the roads in the axis at some point during the construction but that it would start with partial restriction of movement.

While assuring that adequate arrangements have been firmed up to mitigate the impact of the closure of the roads on motorists and residents, Hotonu said traffic diversion routes have been created to ensure ease of movement along the corridor.

He said the construction of the flyover across the Pen Cinema intersection at Agege embarked upon by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was part of the continuous drive to ease traffic within the metropolis and improve on the State economy.

According to him, “To ease the construction of the Pen Cinema flyover, the State Government will be diverting traffic at the Pen Cinema intersection starting from Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Hotonu further said that the restriction of movement is expected to last for an estimated period of three and six months to enable the contractor take full advantage of the weather and space to deliver seamlessly the critical aspect of the flyover construction that falls within the Pen Cinema roundabout and railway crossing at Old Abeokuta Road junction.

“The routes for the diversion for the flyover are as follow; Vehicles coming from Ogba/Oba Ogunji except Articulated vehicles are expected to come in through Ijaiye Low Cost Housing Estate to link Iju Road, while Articulated Vehicles and other vehicles plying this axis have the option of either turning right towards Iju Road at the Pen Cinema intersection or left towards Moshalashi Alhaja.

“Similarly, vehicles coming from Iju Road should go towards Moshalashi Alhaja or turn towards Oba Ogunji/ Ogba as the turning towards the right to the Railway crossing will remain closed.

Continuing, Hotonu said there would be a complete closure of the road for vehicles coming from Moshalashi Alhaja towards the Railway crossing, while vehicles coming from Moshalashi Alhaja axis would be expected to either move towards Iju Road or turn right towards Oba Ogunji/Ogba Road.

“All vehicles coming from Old Abeokuta Motor Road are enjoined to go straight towards Agege Motor Road or turn right towards Afa Nla/Oke Koto roads, while vehicles coming from Agege Motor Road are enjoined to go straight towards Old Abeokuta Motor Road or turn into Afa Nla/Oke Koto roads. No vehicle from these axes will be allowed to pass through the Pen Cinema intersection,” Hotonu said.

While regretting the inconveniences the partial restriction would cause motorists and residents, the State Government appealed for caution and cooperation with traffic and security personnel deployed to ease their movement, noting that the ultimate goal of the plan is to make life easy and improve traffic along the corridor.

AgegePulse Magazine

…Says Critical Project’ll Be Delivered in 2018

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday expressed optimism that 2018 holds great promises for Lagos and Lagosians, assuring that the State will record landmark achievements in major sectors of the economy in the New Year.

Governor Ambode, in his New Year message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said that while the outgoing year witnessed a massive leap in terms of infrastructural development in the State, some of the reforms in key sectors of the economy will take full flight from the beginning of 2018.

‘We have good reason to be very optimistic about what 2018 holds in stock for our State and every Lagosian. The commencement and realisation of some of our reform programmes especially in the Public Transport, Environment, Tourism and Health sectors will transform the landscape of the State and improve the quality of lives of all Lagosians,” he said.

Governor Ambode said his administration will not rest on its oars, but will continue to up the ante on infrastructural renewal, noting that the 2018 budget of N1.046trillion which is currently at the House of Assembly for approval will be dedicated majorly to completing some critical projects currently ongoing as well as commence some new ones.

Some of the key projects, the Governor listed includes the Oshodi Transport Interchange, reconstruction of the Oshodi International Airport Road, Pen Cinema Flyover, 181 Local Government Roads and other network of roads.

“Given the fact that 2018 will be last full fiscal year of this administration’s four year tenure, our major focus will be the completion of most of the ongoing projects. We will also pursue the objective of strengthening the financial base of our State through various measures aimed at boosting the States Internally Generated Revenue. We believe very strongly that this is achievable without necessarily increasing taxes but by widening the tax base and ensuring that all revenues due to the State are collected through technologically driven tax collection and management system,” the Governor said.

Ambode urged residents to continue to support his administration’s quest to transform the nook and crannies of the State for good by voluntarily paying their taxes as and when due.

“The dream of a new Lagos which we all desire is unfolding and we all have a role to play in this project. Our government is open to new ideas and partnerships, and we will welcome suggestions for better ways to do things and improve on service delivery to the people. We will continue to provide responsible and responsive leadership which is the hallmark of sustainable development in modern, functional and liveable cosmopolitan city like Lagos,” the Governor said.
