Jubilation As Sanwo-Olu Unveils Pen Cinema FlyOver | AgegePulse Magazine

…Tinubu: ‘I’m Proud, Sanwo-Olu Has Shown Excellent Results’

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu flanked by Gov. Sanwo-Olu and Obasa at theach official opening of Pen Cinema Bridge

…Five Arterial Roads Network Completed In Agege, Also Commissioned

The long-sought relief from choking vehicular gridlocks has finally come the way of residents in the Agege-Abule Egba axis of Lagos State. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, unveiled Pen Cinema Bridge and five arterial road networks in the area, formally opening the infrastructure for public use.

The commissioning marked fulfilment of another campaign promise made by Sanwo-Olu to residents, who daily endured pain in commuting within the axis in the last four years.

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had the honour to inaugurate the projects, which he described as “needed catalyst” for the resuscitation of economic activities on the axis.

The construction of the 1.4-kilometre long flyover was part of the recommendation at the Lagos Economic Summit (Ehingbeti) under ex-Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration, as a strategic intervention to achieving significant traffic improvement in the densely populated area. The last administration created the right-of-way and set up the structural beams; Governor Sanwo-Olu substantially completed civil works on the bridge.

The imposing overpass ascends from Oba Ogunji Road and drops at Oke Koto area of Agege. The bridge also opens to the old Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway through Abule Egba.

Tumultuous crowd of joyous residents joined Gov. Sanwo-Olu and members of the State’s cabinet in handing over the bridge for public use.

The Governor described the delivery of the project as a “landmark progress” in the State Government’s drive towards eliminating bottlenecks causing suffocating gridlocks and relieving residents of stress associated with commuting on roads.

Sanwo-Olu said the two-pronged approach, which his administration deployed to deliver critical infrastructure, gave priority to continuation and completion of strategic projects, regular maintenance and construction of new ones in line with the State’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP).

He said his Government decided to continue the project, because it was in tune with the first pillar of his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, which targets the provision of roads for expedited economic growth and seamless mobility.

He said: “I am delighted to stand before Lagosians today to celebrate the delivery of this landmark project, which again, reflects our administration’s belief in the principle of continuity in governance and demonstrates our commitment to the urgency of infrastructure development and the welfare of our people. The completion of this flyover and five network of roads sends a strong message about our determination to accelerate our futuristic vision for a world class transportation system complemented by a good network of roads for social and economic transformation.

“In order to address the challenge of huge traffic burden, the immediate past administration initiated and commenced the construction of a precast and pre-stressed reinforced concrete of 1.4km dual-carriage flyover and ramp, with road works across the Agege-Pen Cinema Intersection. As of May 2019 when this administration was inaugurated, this project was at about 20 per cent progress. With the delivery of this bridge, which is complemented with traffic signalisation and drainage channels, we have resolved the perennial traffic arising from huge human and vehicular movement from Agege-Pen Cinema Intersection towards Abule Egba, Fagba, Oke Koto and Iyana Ipaja.”

To achieve a quick turnaround in commuting on the bridge, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that his Government identified and reconstructed five strategic arterial roads with good connectivity to adjoining roads that could serve as alternative bypasses to other routes in periods of heavy traffic.

The Governor said since road transportation remained crucial to economic growth and physical development, he believed the project would inject more life into socio-economic activities of people living and doing business in the area.

He said: “A key outcome from the strategic execution of this magnificent Pen Cinema Flyover project is that our administration has again demonstrated the priority it accords to the wellbeing of our people. It is a true test of our commitment to the Greater Lagos vision and a reflection of the achievability of our audacious socio-economic goals. In the course of implementing this project, we created jobs for about 380 people including engineers, supervisors, artisans and others- a clear indicator of the nexus between infrastructure development and employment generation.”

Sanwo-Olu pledged that his administration would not relent in provision of infrastructure for coordinated and sustainable development that would help to improve the State’s performance on the Ease of Doing Business index.

Tinubu expressed confidence in Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, noting that the Governor had stabilised and brought Lagos back on a focused journey, despite economic turbulence occasioned by Coronavirus (COVID-19) and coordinated destruction of the State’s assets.

The APC National Leader, who described Sanwo-Olu as “a brilliant captain”, praised the collaboration between the executive and the legislative arms in the State.

He said: “This is a commendable achievement by Sanwo-Olu, who has further brought Lagos on the path of progress, given the economic resuscitation this infrastructure will bring on this axis and entire Lagos. May you continue to think and perform to demonstrate excellent results as you have done today.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, said the axis on which the flyover is sited is one of the busiest in vehicular activities in Lagos, saying the bridge would bring back convenience to millions of residents commuting in the area.

She said: “The entire project consists of a dual carriageway, with a bridge component of two lanes with 3.65 cm width in either direction. The road component consists of service lanes on either side of the bridge with median, kerbs and walkways that are complete with signalised traffic system. There are junction improvements with LED streetlight features.”

Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who represents Agege in the Assembly, described Governor Sanwo-Olu as “a proactive, wonderful performer”, who always accomplishes any projects he promises.

The adjoining roads commissioned with the flyover are Iju Road, Oba Ogunji Road, Agunbiade Road, Oke Koto Intersection and Iyana Ipaja link road.

A Lagos State High Court has barred Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu, from imposing levies on traders at the Computer Village, Lagos.

A Lagos State High Court has barred Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu, from imposing levies on traders at the Computer Village, Lagos.

The development comes over a year after Tinubu-Ojo, who is also the Iyaloja-General of Lagos State reportedly imposed leaders on the traders who then introduced new levies, a development which sparked a series of protests at the Computer Village.

Others who were similarly barred from imposing levies include: Mrs. Bisola Azeez, Mr. Adeniyi Olasoji, Nofiu Akinsanya, Tony Ikani and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

Iyaloja-General, Folashade Tinubu, Ojo

The order is sequel to a fundamental human rights suit marked ID/9039MFHR/19 instituted against the five respondents by the five major stakeholders that represent the traders at the Computer Village.

The stakeholders representing the traders include: The Registered Trustees of Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria; Registered Trustees of Phone and Allied Product Dealers Association of Nigeria; and Registered Trustees of Phone Parts and Accessories Dealers Association of Nigeria.

Other applicants include: the Registered Trustees of Association of Caterers, Food and Drinks Vendors of Ogunbiyi Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos; Registered Trustees of Ikeja Books, Stationeries and Computer Association and Azeez Olunrin.

The judgment, which was delivered by Justice Yetunde Pinheiro read in part, “I find that the 2nd and 3rd respondents’ imposition of levies on the applicants is illegal, null and void and therefore amounts to a violation of their fundamental rights.

“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered as thus: The first to fifth respondents by themselves, agents, levy collectors howsoever called are restrained from imposing levies and/or fines on the members of the 1st to 5th applicants at the Ikeja Computer Village in the Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State.”

In a letter titled, ‘Dear members, Our Court Victory against Iyaloja and Babaloja and Others in Computer Village, Ikeja’, the leadership of the Computer Village rejoiced over the judgment.

In the letter signed by its Chairman and Secretary-General, Timi Famoroti and Jerry Mba respectively, members were asked not to pay tax to Tinubu’s daughter or her representatives.

It read in part, “The implications of this landmark judgement is that the Iyaloja General, Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, Mrs. Bisola Azeez, And Mr. Olasoji Adeniyi or their representatives or agents cannot collect any form of dues, levies or fines from the members of Ikeja Computer Village Market. Any collection in this regard is illegal.

“We therefore urge you not to submit yourself to any form of payment, intimidation and extortion. It is your right to defend yourself and report to your leaders in case there is a violation of your fundamental human rights.

“Please ensure you document with concrete evidence and report any breach of your right to your leaders. This will help our legal action/s against any violators when necessary. We therefore urge every member to continue to pay your agreed dues to your various associations accordingly.”

Traders were also advised to pay their personal and company income, taxes, levies and others to the appropriate government agencies at the national, state and local governments when due.

LASRERA Solicits Support Of Real Estate Professionals To Curb Unethical Practices | AgegePulse Magazine

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has appealed to practitioners in the real estate sector and the general public to join hands with the State Government to eliminate unethical practices in the real estate industry in order to ensure that perpetrators of dubious acts are dealt with in accordance with relevant provisions of the Law.

SA, Toke-Benson

Benson-Awoyinka, delivering her keynote address as the Special Guest of Honour at the Alphacrux Real Estate Outlook Conference held virtually on Thursday, highlighted the efforts and activities of the State Government in the real estate sector, maintaining that if integrity is restored to the profession, more international investments would be attracted to the country and would be beneficial to many individuals in the State.

She insisted that the Real Estate Market must be transparent for investors to show interest in the sector, stressing that the economic growth of any nation depends on the combined efforts of various individual business ventures, institutions, public and private bodies.

Appreciating the organisers of the event for recognising the efforts of the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as it relates to Real Estate activities in the State, Benson-Awoyinka stated that the giant strides made by LASRERA within a short period is yielding the expected results, one of which is the increased awareness about the office.

Speaking on the relationship between LASRERA and the regulatory bodies in the real estate business, the Special Adviser said, “I am always quick to make this clarification at every gathering that involves relevant stakeholders in the built sector, that LASRERA was not established to assume the position of the existing professional regulatory bodies for Real Estate practitioners, rather, the agency intends to work with existing regulatory bodies to sanitise the sector.

“Basically, LASRERA came into being as a response to reported cases of fraudulent practices in the real estate sector. Constitutionally, the government exists for the purpose of protecting lives and property; it would be insensitive on the part of the government to ignore thousands of Lagosians who have at one time or the other fell victims to these fraudulent practices”, she stated.

The Special Adviser averred that real estate remains an investment asset of choice and warned that buyers should be careful where they are investing their money in order to avoid unpalatable stories.

While citing the different initiatives from LASRERA, she expressed the hope that reported cases of fraudulent practices will be curtailed and genuine Practitioners will be able to render quality services to members of the public seeking real estate property within the State.

Alphacrux Real Estate Outlook Conference is an annual gathering of industry experts, developers, economists, and investors in the built industry to network, learn, share knowledge and discuss the business year.

*•Lagos organises retreat for top civil servants*

Gov. Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged all Permanent Secretaries in the State’s civil service to bring their experience to bear in creating implementation framework and seamless coordination in the delivery of Government’s programmes and policies.

Hakeem Okunola

To achieve the administration’s set objectives, Sanwo-Olu said there must be efficient collaboration between Permanent Secretaries, who are experienced technocrats, and political heads assigned to their ministries to drive programmes’ implementation.

The Governor advised Permanent Secretaries in the State’s public service to leverage the positions to foster teamwork with cabinet members for improved impact of governance and development. Sanwo-Olu spoke, on Thursday, when he declared a two-day retreat organised for the Body of Permanent Secretaries open.

The event is being held at Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

Sanwo-Olu said the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had brought changes to traditional ways of doing work, charging all the 57 participants to adapt themselves to the new reality and think outside the box in order not to slow down wheel of governance.

He said: “Permanent Secretary is a position that comes with tough responsibilities, given the expectation from the political leadership and the citizenry. As experienced officers in the civil service, Permanent Secretaries must develop a framework for implementation of Government’s programmes and policies. This means creating viable relationships with the political heads of their ministries.

“Most of the cabinet members who are also professionals in their own right may not understand the rudiments of engagement in the public service. It is the duty of the Permanent Secretaries to put them through and streamline the activities of ministries in line with objectives of the Government. Therefore, collaboration between the cabinet members and civil service is necessary for better coordination.”

Sanwo-Olu told the participants to see their appointment in to the position as a privilege that must be embraced with humility, urging them not to be domineering in imposing their authority in their ministries.

He admonished them to accord respect to public officers in lower cadres and carry them along in the activities of the ministries.

He said: “The THEMES agenda is a tool being used by the Government to reposition Lagos for greater development. You are technocrats in the public service, who have what it takes to help drive the objectives successfully. I urge you to bring your experience and vigour into the work. If we see excellent results, you would only not only be my Permanent Secretaries, but also my friend in the journey to deliver Greater Lagos.”

Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the retreat was an on-boarding process for newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to learn from their older colleagues and get them equipped with ideas that’ll help them run the affairs of their respective ministries efficiently.

Muri-Okunola hailed the Governor for approving the retreat, pledging the commitment of the civil service towards the achieving the

Praising the Speaker for the successes of the Lagos Assembly, Obalanlege stressed that the activities of the House had also positively impacted on the Awori people in the state.

Olota urged the Speaker to see and take Otta as his second home.

Thanking Olota for the gesture, Obasa commended the monarch for propagating the Yoruba tradition, saying that had reflected in the way the monarch and the Olota-In-Council spoke Yoruba language all through the event.

Dr Obasa urged traditional rulers in the Southwestern part of Nigeria to continue protecting the Traditional and Cultural Heritage, part of which is constant speaking of the Yoruba language.

How do we do this? It is by using our mother-tongue to communicate with whosoever the visitor is, no matter the status and wherever he comes from’.

According to the Speaker, it was the drive to preserve the language, custom and culture of the Yoruba race that necessitate the decision of the Lagos State House of Assembly to carry out plenary activities in the native language on Thursdays.

He said this would help more residents to understand some of the laws that guide their daily activities.

Dr Obasa noted that the House had recently agreed that all the laws passed by the House would now be translated into Yoruba for the benefit of those we are representing.

The Speaker also urged parents to speak the language at home, as stressing that ‘understanding ones native language does not hinder one from being able to speak English fluently’.

A Criminal High Court of Justice sitting in Benin City, has sentenced to death by hanging, a dismissed Police Constable, Joseph Omotosho, attached to the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Edo State Police command.

This sentence is coming after five and a half years of waiting for justice by the family of Benson Obodeh, a car dealer, who was arrested by men of SARS for undisclosed reasons and later died in unclear circumstances.

The dismissed Constable, Joseph Omotosho, alongside, Corporals, Adeleke Adedeji, Abena John, Oniyo Musa, Henry Shobowole, were found guilty after undergoing a court trial on eight-count charge bordering on Conspiracy to Steal and murder over alleged car theft incident that happened in 2015.

But the other three accomplices escaped during the EndSARS protest when two correctional centres were destroyed in Benin City and inmates escaped.

The presiding judge, Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele, delivered judgment on the fifth defendant, Joseph Omotosho, who was the only one present in Court while suspending the sentencing of the other absconded criminal policemen.

Ovbiagele described testimonies provided by the claimant as firm adding, “therefore, his judgment was based on “absolute fact” which the Court absorbed as presented by the prosecuting counsel and all witnesses that appeared before the court,”

26-year-old Benin based car dealer, Benson Obodeh, was said to have been listed among suspected criminal gangs who allegedly stole a Peugeot car in Lagos for their raids.

According to multiple reports, his corpse was later dumped at the Specialist Hospital, Benin City, with a different name unscripted on his lifeless body, claimed by the mortician who received the body from one of the Police Corporals that killed him.

Family investigations revealed that, the policemen who committed the murder also stole an unregistered Peugeot 306 car from the late Benson Obodeh, stole the sum of N200,000 cash from him, made away with the wallet containing his identity cards and two ATM Cards.
