The Tutor General cum Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Education District District One (EDDI), Dr Mrs Yinka Ayandele has hailed teachers, students and parents for the impressive turnout of students witnessed across the district as schools resume for the 2018/2019 academic session.

Dr Ayandele made the assertion while on tour of the 99 schools domiciled within the three local government areas (Agege, Ifako and Alimosho) that make up the district.

The resumption tour is an annual routine through which Dr Ayandele in company of other management staff and the Schools Support Unit, ascertains level of compliance with stated rules and regulations across the schools.

Speaking with newsmen after the tour, Dr Ayandele expressed great delight at the level of enthusiasm and preparedness on the part of students and teachers towards hitting the ground running as schools resume for the 2018/2019 session.

"We are happy to see that the children are happy to resume back to school and they resume in large numbers. The teachers are really very set, we have seen some things are being put in place like the name of students per class, arrangements, distribution of time-table, even the first assessment (welcome test) of our students is ongoing. These are part of efforts that are stimulating the resumption generally because these children are always looking forward to the first day of resumption."

She said the state government has moved ahead to put necessary school needs in place to ensure smooth transition into the new session.

"As you are aware that Lagos State government is committed to providing quality, affordable and accessible basic education to every child in the state, hence, prior to resumption, we met with Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Dr. Idiat Adebule expressing our preparations and challenges. She has addressed most of them, so, we are fully prepared to have better results than last year."

The award winning TGPS thanked the education stakeholders that made the resumption seamless.

"We want to use the opportunity to thank our parents for taking good and wonderful care of these students; they are looking very smart and happy to come back to school, we also thank the teaching and non-teaching staff, they already resumed since last week preparing the whole place for the students, ensuring the school environment is clean and conducive for learning, test running gadgets, preparing instructional materials just to ensure that our first day in school is not wasted. As you can see, it is not up to 10 O’clock, the schools have already settled. Our hearty appreciation goes to the present administration of Lagos State Government especially His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who is making teachers happy and ready to do the work they know how to do best." She concluded.

On a lighter note, some of the students narrate their holiday experiences to the TGPS after which she encouraged them to be focused, diligent and occupy their space as they aim high in studies.
