AN OPEN LETTER OF CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW ACTING CHAIRMAN, HON. ABDUL-GANIYY VINOD OBASA

Yomi Durojaye

Dear Hon. Abdul-Ganiyy Vinod Obasa,

First and foremost, accept my hearty congratulations on your emergence as the Acting Chairman of our beloved Agege Local Government. Some may say “it is politics as usual,” but I personally see in it a divine design and a youthful chance to prove that our generation is not only capable of shouting from the sidelines but of truly sitting at the table of governance.

Permit me to confess: I did not congratulate you when you assumed office as Vice-Chairman. Perhaps, in my heart, I knew that the political script would one day flip the way it just did. But why should I be angry? Politics is a game of chess, not checkers. And truth be told, one of my greatest agitations as a youth of Agege has always been: Let the elders give the youths a chance! Now, here we are, you, a vibrant, educated young man, born into politics, carrying not only the name but also the blood of leadership.

Honourable sir, allow me as a bonafide and proud resident of Agege to place before you some thoughts, not criticisms, not complaints, but candles of light you may carry along the corridors of governance:

1. THE STREETS MUST SHINE AGAIN.

Some of our streets have lights, some don’t. Some lights work, some don’t. And the saddest part is; right in front of the local government secretariat, darkness has become a silent companion, allowing bad elements to harass and even harm our people. Just recently, a precious life was lost. Sir, Agege deserves light, not only as a metaphor for development, but literally. Please, let us not only “shine our eyes” but “shine our streets.”

2. UNITE OUR FATHERS AND MOTHERS IN POLITICS.

Agege has many elders who once laboured, sacrificed, and gave their all for the love of Agege and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sadly, political caucuses of the past administration forced many into silence, fear, or the wilderness of irrelevance. Now, some are coming back timidly to encourage you, but many still live with the trauma of rejection. Kindly extend the olive branch, heal these wounds. Unite them again. A united family always drives development faster than a fragmented one.

3. GIVE THE LEGISLATURE THEIR SPACE.

Your father, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has led the Lagos State House of Assembly for many years with dignity and earned respect across Nigeria. Let the legislators in Agege also breathe, legislate, and critique. Don’t overshadow them; don’t threaten them. Even if they are your father’s loyalists, let them prove their own capacity. Criticism, sometimes, is like bitter leaf, it may taste harsh, but it strengthens the body.

4. PUT YOUTHS AT THE FRONTLINE.

I say this not only as a youth, but as a beggar in the court of justice, please, empower our youths first. Yes, empower elders too; they deserve respect. But let the focus tilt more toward us, the young ones, who are still struggling to find our feet. Give us chances not only in politics but in sports, skills, and education. As mentioned earlier by a brother, Azeez Nurudeen Lekan, that, you’ve done well with football competitions, but sir, we want Agege Township Stadium to become not just a football field but a real arena of pride. Let our youth centres be rebranded with modern tools so that our boys and girls can compete globally, not just locally.

5. RESPECT ELDERS, BUT FEAR NOT.

Around you are men and women old enough to be your parents, some loyalists of your father, some mere opportunists, and, of course, some hidden enemies. Respect them, but don’t fear them. Listen, but don’t allow yourself to be dictated to. You carry a great name, but more importantly, you carry your own destiny. Be bold, be wise, and let the Obasa legacy shine in you.

6. EDUCATION MUST NOT BE SILENT.

From primary schools to secondary schools in Agege, let your works be felt. Let children sit in classrooms that make learning attractive, not exhausting. The future of Agege lies more in classrooms than in council offices.

7. REFORM THE CDAs AND CDCs.

Once upon a time, our CDAs and CDCs served noble purposes. Now, many have been politically hijacked and reduced to tools of manipulation. Can we not draw a line? Can we not insist that political office holders should stay off these platforms? If you succeed here, history will mark your name in golden ink.

Permit me one little mischief before I close: many are praising Hon. Johnson Babatunde of Orile-Agege as “Mr. Project.” But let us not forget that behind every good Johnson, there was always a gallant Obasa. Sir, emulate the good ones, discard the disappointing ones, and outshine them all with your own distinct footprints.

Finally, I pray Almighty God to guide you, protect you, and strengthen you in this new journey. May your tenure be a blessing to the people of Agege, may your father’s wisdom flow through your veins, and may the name Obasa in your hands remain a banner of pride, not of controversy.

Congratulations once again, Acting Chairman. The ball is in your court. Please, don’t just dribble, score the goals!

✍️Yours sincerely,

RAHMON AKEEM AJAYI

Voice of the Doves 🕊️🕊️🕊️

A Resident, and Proud Youth of Agege

Tinubu Turns Foreign Visits into Lifelines: Partnerships to Cut Costs, Create Jobs, and Restore Confidence

By Gbenga Abiola, National Coordinator, Tinubu Media Force (TMF)

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s roadmap for Nigeria’s growth has proven to be truly phenomenal, with every official trip abroad yielding unprecedented benefits for the nation’s economy and its people. In line with the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto and the promises he made during the 2023 elections, the President has pursued a bold strategy of economic diplomacy, using each international engagement to attract investment, strengthen trade partnerships, and open new opportunities for Nigerians. His approach has been focused on easing the economic burden on households, addressing the challenges of food security, job creation, and infrastructure, while positioning Nigeria as a credible global player and the economic powerhouse of Africa.

President Tinubu’s international engagements are delivering visible dividends for Nigerians, with every visit abroad translating into fresh economic opportunities. From agriculture in Brazil to technology in Japan, and investment pledges from India to aviation breakthroughs in the United Arab Emirates, the President’s strategic diplomacy is easing pressure on the nation’s economy while creating pathways for long-term growth. According to the Tinubu Media Force (TMF), these visits are not ceremonial but carefully structured to bring immediate and long-lasting relief to Nigerian households.

The Brazil trip has been particularly significant. Tinubu successfully revived the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Agreement, unlocking partnerships that will introduce mechanized farming and agro-industrial parks across Nigeria. For millions of Nigerians struggling with rising food prices, the impact could be transformative. With Brazil’s expertise in large-scale agriculture and livestock management, local production of rice, maize, and other staples is expected to rise, easing dependence on costly imports. Analysts project that the scheme could directly create over 100,000 jobs and five million indirect opportunities while helping to bring down the cost of food that has stretched household budgets in recent years. TMF stresses that this breakthrough is one of the clearest signs yet that the administration’s foreign policy is directly tackling the cost-of-living crisis.

Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts focus to Asia, where his visit to Japan reinforced Nigeria’s drive towards industrial growth and technology transfer. Japan pledged support in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and automobile assembly. For Nigerians, this could mean more stable electricity in the future, the growth of smart cities, and affordable locally assembled cars. Vocational training agreements reached in Tokyo are also aimed at equipping Nigeria’s youth, who make up more than 60 percent of the population, with skills in engineering and advanced manufacturing. The Tinubu Media Force emphasizes that these youth-focused agreements are vital to creating a generation of globally competitive Nigerian professionals.

At the G20 Summit in India, Tinubu secured billions of dollars in infrastructure and energy pledges. In the United Arab Emirates, strategic negotiations reopened aviation corridors and deepened cooperation in oil and gas. Together, these efforts have helped attract over $5 billion in foreign direct investment within two years, restoring investor confidence and strengthening Nigeria’s economic outlook. TMF underscores that these achievements show the world’s renewed confidence in Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership, a confidence that is steadily translating into tangible economic benefits for ordinary citizens.

The effects on ordinary Nigerians are clear. Agro-industrial development from Brazil will help curb food inflation. Japanese investments will create skilled jobs and reduce import bills on vehicles. Aviation deals with Brazil and the United Arab Emirates promise to ease travel costs for businesspeople and traders. Each initiative contributes to reducing household expenses, boosting incomes, and expanding opportunities for young people.

Beyond the numbers, Tinubu’s approach has repositioned Nigeria’s global image. By engaging both established powers like Japan and Brazil and emerging markets like India, the country is increasingly seen as a credible partner rather than a passive player. This renewed image enhances Nigeria’s bargaining power in international forums and ensures its voice is heard in shaping global economic policy.

As Nigeria continues to navigate tough domestic reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, the President’s international drive offers a much-needed cushion. By securing partnerships that promise cheaper food, better jobs, improved power supply, and stronger industries, Tinubu is laying the foundation for the kind of inclusive prosperity that will make present sacrifices worthwhile. For millions of families facing economic pressure, these gains provide renewed hope that Nigeria’s future is firmly tied to progress and opportunity.

Breaking News: Outrage, How Agege Man Was Scammed of ₦34,000 in Ikeja Computer Village, Gets Paper Wrap Instead of Phone

A disturbing case of fraud has once again highlighted the dangers of doing business at Ikeja Computer Village, Lagos’ biggest mobile phone market.

In a video obtained by Lagos Reporters, a man who reportedly came from the Agege area to purchase a phone for ₦34,000 was left devastated after realizing he had been scammed. Instead of the gadget he paid for, the seller cleverly swapped his money for a bundle of papers containing just one thousand naira.

The shocking incident, which played out in broad daylight, has reignited public anger over the notorious activities of fraudsters who have operated in Ikeja for more than two decades, despite repeated police crackdowns.

Residents and victims say Computer Village has long been a hub for such scams, with unsuspecting buyers often tricked, duped, or even robbed in what many describe as “organized fraud.”

Just recently, Lagos Reporters listed 18 dangerous zones across Lagos State, with Ikeja featuring prominently. The report warned residents and visitors to shine their eyes and remain vigilant while in the area or any other part of Lagos where hoodlums, scammers, and petty thieves operate freely.

RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE MOVES TO LAGOS •First Lady’s interventions impactful at grassroots — Sanwo-Olu

•Senator Tinubu meets Lagos traditional rulers, religious leaders

Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, met with religious leaders and traditional rulers in Lagos State during the first day of her three-day official visit to the nation’s commercial city.

The interactive meeting, held at the Lagos State Governor’s residence in Marina, afforded the First Lady to interact with opinion leaders at the grassroots on the impacts of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in Lagos and other states of the federation.

The event was also attended by All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and National Assembly lawmakers in the State, Lagos cabinet officials and members of Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led members of the State’s entourage to welcome the wife of the President to the State House. Senator Tinubu was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima and wife of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila.

The traditional rulers were led by chairman of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba of Lagos, Alayeluwa Rilwanu Akiolu, who was represented by his vice and Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi.

The forum served as a feedback platform for the First Lady to gauge the impacts of the RHI flagship programmes at the grassroots and intimate the gathering about ongoing interventions her Office had been doing in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, in his opening remarks, said the traditional and religious leaders were critical stakeholders in grassroots governance, noting that the opinion leaders were the closest contacts to the citizens.

The Governor said Sen. Tinubu had brought hope to the vulnerable and the elderly through the Renewed Hope Initiative, stressing that the First Lady conceived the project with the goal to lift citizens, regardless of their political, economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Sanwo-Olu said: “Over the last two years, the First Lady has birthed new initiatives and ideas to drive Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across communities in the country, leveraging the influence of her office to bring the desired results. The Renewed Hope Initiative is next to none in the volume of interventions and impacts. Through RHI, Sen. Tinubu has activated a lot of programmes to meet the needs of the vulnerable people at the grassroots.

“The impacts are being felt across the geopolitical regions of our country. These positive impacts have energised a new era of grassroots engagement and empowerment; many lives have been touched across the nooks and crannies of the country. All of these have been done without any financial contribution from the government’s purse.

“The First Lady has driven this initiative through her influence, contact, passion and commitment to supporting our communities. She has done this without any political coloration or affiliation. Opposition states are feeling the impacts of the Renewed Hope Initiative the same way APC states have benefited. This shows that the motive behind RHI was not political, but a compassionate action taken to make life better for citizens who need support.”

Sen. Tinubu gave an elaborate explanation about a series of programmes and interventions being implemented by her Office in Lagos, noting that the First Lady Office, through RHI, had distributed 100,000 education materials to pupils across Lagos schools, including N1 million scholarship and laptops.

Lagos, the First Lady pointed out, also got 140 scholarships through the Federal Ministry of Education Bursaries programme of 2024, adding that the State had benefited from RHI school renovation projects.

Sen. Tinubu said her Office had strengthened various groups of women to advance smart agriculture, noting that RHI had empowered 20 women in Lagos with N500k and training to participate in food sovereignty programmes to enhance agricultural output.

She said: “RHI Economic Empowerment programme enabled us to support 1,000 women in petty trade per state to recapitalise their existing businesses. This N50,000 extra grant might be little to people who have some level of comfort but means a lot to an average woman frying bean cakes at the street corner. From August 2024 that we launched the programme, thousands of women have benefited from this grant programme in Lagos.

“We are supporting this grant programme with distribution of equipment and tools to women whose businesses require deep freezers, industrial grinding machines, and industrial ovens. This project was launched in February 2025 and we have been taking the initiative to two regions to improve the lives of the beneficiaries. In Lagos, we are here to also provide the materials to support our women.”

Senator Tinubu also talked about the health care activities being championed by her Office, noting that she had rolled out a mass vaccination programme to immunise children against cervical cancer. As a burdened State, the First Lady said Lagos had been a major beneficiary area for the project.

She said her Office had also strengthened advocacy to stop the spread of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Senator Tinubu added that Lagos would be getting a 10,000 year supply of sanitary pads in the Flow With Confidence Initiative to encourage and support schoolgirls in rural communities who missed school due to lack of sanitary materials to manage their monthly period.

Senator Tinubu disclosed that RHI had supported 1,709 widows and orphans of fallen ex-servicemen with a total of N422.8 million since November 2023, adding: “We will be empowering persons living disabilities on the World Disability Day in December. We will support 250 persons per state with N200,000 each so that they can start businesses and be self-reliant.”

The First Lady thanked the religious leaders and traditional rulers for helping to bring the Renewed Hope Initiative programmes to the grassroots, urging them to communicate the feedback to members of their respective communities.

Oba Shotobi, who spoke on behalf of the attendees, applauded the First Lady’s interventions, pledging more support and commitment to the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The traditional ruler, however, urged the wife of the President to use her influence to create a statutory framework that would enable the country’s political leadership to harness the power of traditional institutions for national development.

Ayangburen said Lagos had not fully benefited from local government administration, given its growing population and economic position. He specially requested that Sen. Tinubu champion the call for the enlistment of the State’s 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) into the constitution to enable them function as statutory entities.

This, the traditional ruler said, would address the lopsidedness and injustice done to Lagos in local government creation.

New Tenancy Bill Will Protect Tenants, Landlord, Accelerates Investment in Housing Sector In Lagos

The new Tenancy Bill currently under consideration by the Lagos State House of Assembly will ensure full protection of both tenants and landlords, as well as reduce inhibitions to mass housing development for private investors.

The Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, stated this while speaking with newsmen during the Public Hearing on Lagos State Tenancy Bill 2025 on Wednesday at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He said, “As of today, there are issues surrounding the landlord and tenant relationship, this bill is intended to make sure that everybody knows his/her rights, the tenant is protected, the landlord is protected”.

Hon. Akinderu-Fatai, while appreciating the legislators of the Lagos State House of Assembly for the holistic work of research and dedication put into crafting the bill, also stated that the bill will undoubtedly create confidence for real estate investors and open up opportunities for new real estate financiers in the State.

According to him the new tenancy bill will “Escalate investment in the real estate sector and encourage investors to come in with confidence that when they build, their investment is well protected”.

The Commissioner, while contributing to the proceedings at the public hearing, applauded some of the highlights of the new bill, which will protect the tenants from exploitation by estate agents, such as a provision to make registration of agents mandatory and setting a limit for commission and agency fees. This, according to him, “is a response to the complaints and yearnings of the members of the public”.

In addition, Hon Akinderu-Fata mentioned that the new suggestion to include virtual hearings in proceedings will aid the speedy dispensation of trials, while the Alternative Dispute Resolution Agreement, when deployed, can also be enforced by the courts in case legal representatives choose the ADR option.

He also reiterated the need for the new bill to ensure the provision of the existing law to “keep premises insured against loss or damage” by landlords is favourably reconsidered.

He commended the new provision that expressly states the right of the landlord to inspect and maintain the premises, upon giving prior notice to the tenants.

The public hearing on the new Lagos State Tenancy Bill 2025 was witnessed by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who was represented by Hon Kayode Ogundipe. The gathering was also chaired by Hon Ege Olusegun Adebisi, the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Housing.
