U.S Indicts CEO of Air Peace Airline, Onyema Over Fraud, Money Laundering

Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has been charged with bank fraud and money laundering for moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes.

The international airline’s Chief of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, has also been charged with bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

“Onyema allegedly leveraged his status as a prominent business leader and airline executive while using falsified documents to commit fraud,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak.  “We will diligently protect the integrity our banking system from being corrupted by criminals, even when they disguise themselves in a cloak of international business.”

Robert J. Murphy, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division commented on the indictment, “Allen Onyema’s status as a wealthy businessman turned out to be a fraud. He corrupted the U.S. banking system, but his trail of deceit and trickery came to a skidding halt. DEA would like to thank the many law enforcement partners and the subsequent prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office who aided in making this investigation a success.”

“This case is a prime example of why IRS-CI seeks to partner and leverage its expertise in an effort to thwart those seeking to exploit our nation’s financial system,” said Thomas J. Holloman, IRS-Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Office. “With the importance of our banking system to the movement of money around the world, those attempting to use intricate schemes to commit bank fraud through the use of falsified documents and other means should know that the odds are now heavily stacked against them as law enforcement is combining its talents to protect the sanctity and integrity of the nation’s financial system.”

“Onyema setup various innocent sounding multi-million dollar asset purchases which were nothing more than alleged fronts for his scam,” said acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in Georgia and Alabama. “I’m proud to be part of a team of law enforcement agencies that come together to identify and attack criminals that attempt to profit from the exploitation of our nation’s financial systems.”

According to U.S. Attorney Pak, the indictment, and other information presented in court: Onyema, a Nigerian citizen and businessman, is the founder and Chairman of several organizations that purport to promote peace across Nigeria, including the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Center for Non-Violence and Peace Development, and All-Time Peace Media Communications Limited.

Beginning in 2010, Onyema began travelling frequently to Atlanta, where he opened several personal and business bank accounts.  Between 2010 and 2018, over $44.9 million was allegedly transferred into his Atlanta-based accounts from foreign sources.

Onyema is also the CEO and Chairman of Nigerian airline Air Peace, which he founded in 2013. In years following the founding of Air Peace, he traveled to the United States and purchased multiple airplanes for the airline. However, over $3 million of the funds used to purchase the aircraft allegedly came from bank accounts for Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Center for Non-Violence and Peace Development, All-Time Peace Media Communications Limited, and Every Child Limited.

Beginning in approximately May 2016, Onyema, together with Eghagha, allegedly used a series of export letters of credit to cause banks to transfer more than $20 million into Atlanta-based bank accounts controlled by Onyema.  The letters of credit were purportedly to fund the purchase of five separate Boeing 737 passenger planes by Air Peace.  The letters were supported by documents such as purchase agreements, bills of sale, and appraisals proving that Air Peace was purchasing the aircraft from Springfield Aviation Company LLC, a business registered in Georgia.

However, the supporting documents were fake — Springfield Aviation Company LLC, which is owned by Onyema and managed by a person with no connection to the aviation business, never owned the aircraft, and the company that allegedly drafted the appraisals did not exist.  Eghagha allegedly participated in this scheme as well, directing the Springfield Aviation manager to sign and send false documents to banks and even using the manager’s identity to further the fraud.  After Onyema received the money in the United States, he allegedly laundered over $16 million of the proceeds of the fraud by transferring it to other accounts.

Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, 56, of Lagos, Nigeria, and Ejiroghene Eghagha, 37, of Lagos, Nigeria, were indicted on November 19, 2019, on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, and three counts of credit application fraud.  Additionally, Onyema was charged with 27 counts of money laundering, and Eghagha was charged with one count of aggravated identity theft.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment only contains charges.  The defendants are presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Commerce, and Department of Treasury are investigating this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Garrett L. Bradford, Deputy Chief of the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Section and Lead Strike Force Attorney, Irina K. Dutcher, and Christopher J. Huber, Deputy Chief of the Complex Frauds Section, are prosecuting the case, with assistance from the Department of Justice’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section and Office of International Affairs.

This prosecution was brought as a part of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Co-located Strike Forces Initiative, which enables agents from different agencies to collaborate on intelligence-driven, multi-jurisdictional operations against a continuum of priority targets and their affiliate illicit financial networks.

These prosecutor-led co-located Strike Forces capitalize on the synergy created through the long-term relationships that can be forged by agents, analysts, and prosecutors who remain together over time, and they epitomize the model that has proven most effective in combating organized crime.  The specific mission of the Atlanta Strike Force is to disrupt and dismantle the most significant drug trafficking and money laundering organizations designated as Consolidated Priority Organization Targets or Regional Priority Organization Targets and their affiliates impacting the Atlanta metropolitan area and the Northern District of Georgia.

Otedola Bridge Again: LASEMA Recovers Another Fallen Oil Tanker

...Averts Oil Spill Fire Around Ojodu

LASEMA has recovered an oil tanker laden with 44,000 litres of Aviation fuel (Jet A1) involved in a lone accident from the Otedola Bridge inward Berger.

In this ongoing operation, the LASEMA team's preliminary investigations revealed that the fully loaded oil tanker with registration number EKY 814 XX, lost it's cargo in the lone accident due to over speeding and reckless driving on the part of the tanker driver.

The recovery team disclosed that when the incident occurred, the impact made the oil Tanker, due to the dead weight of it's 44,000 litres  cargo, pull off from it's Truck head, fall on its side, and started spilling it's content from torn portions of the tanker that impacted the ground.

However, no injuries, fatalities or deaths were recorded in the oil spillage caused by the fallen oil tanker on the Otedola Bridge nor around Ojodu Berger and it's environs, due to sustained activities of the LASEMA team and the hardworking LASG Fire Service that had been available from beginning of the operation.

The very real danger of fuel ignition, explosion and fire, was fully averted due to the timely intervention, activities and collaborative efforts of LASEMA and the LASG Fire Service teams that doused the gushing flow of fuel from it's oil spilling source, averting any probable ignition during it's journey through gutters and drains to the canal.

Though the spilled fuel had been doused and blanketed, the LASEMA response team as well as that of the Lagos State Fire Service remained on ground to mitigate against any probable hazard may result from trans loading of remnant fuel or recovery of the truck head from the deep gorge where it has fallen.

Speaking on the fatal lone accident and collaboration with other First Responders, the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke–Osanyintolu acknowledged the hugely successful Ojodu–Otedola bridge operation that was quietly achieved with virtually no disruption of traffic around the sensitive Ojodu-Berger road, as one of many in the state.

He attributed the smooth operations to the short response time of his well trained teams whom he said were very capable and excellent team workers that coordinate and collaborate well with other emergency responders at incident scenes to quickly bring emergency situations under control with minimum casualties and stress.

Dr. Oke–Osanyintolu who emphasized that aside hardwork and well trained teams, said that this Ojodu–Otedola bridge operation has once again proven true another of his mantras on seamless success, which he says is easily achieved through collaborative efforts of *"Working Better".

LASG gives approval for establishment of 173 private schools

AgegePulse Magazine

Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Education, has given approval for the establishment of 173 Private Schools across the five divisions as part of efforts to entrench inclusiveness in the educational sector.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo made this known while issuing letters of approval to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held in Ikeja.

She noted the present administration's passion for partnering with critical stakeholders in the Private Education Sector as a catalyst to take education in the State to the next level.

“Despite the fact that the number of schools in Lagos, especially in the private sector, has increased tremendously, the yawning gap between demand and supply clearly shows that more schools are needed to meet our educational target. We need more private schools to come on board for us to be able to cater to the ever-increasing educational needs of a fast-growing metropolis like ours”, she said.

Adefisayo, therefore, urged all School owners to reflect excellence in their service delivery, integrate 21st century skills into their teaching methods, make provision for special students, employ only qualified teachers, emphasise digital literacy and adhere to the recommended curriculum for teaching.

While enjoining school owners to improve on the situation which earned them the approval, Director, Private Education and Special Programmes, Mrs. Adetutu Adebowale stressed the need to maintain the standard that earned them the approval of the State government.

She opined that private school operators could not afford to fail in their complementary role needed to move the sector to greater heights.

Responding on behalf of the private nursery and primary schools, Mrs. Anidebe Chinyelu urged the Ministry to always make the new curriculum available on time, update the current curriculum and initiate enlightenment programmes aimed at dissuading parents from encouraging their children to skip primary six.

In the same vein, Captain Femi Olaiya, representing the secondary school sector, encouraged the Ministry to utilise all available media to disseminate information on the criteria for approval to school owners and also hasten the process.

In her words:

“Well, the declaration of my HIV status wasn’t attached to this movie. What I posted was just a random thing. I just felt I should encourage people to go for their HIV test, to know their status, so they can know what next to do and go for medical advice if necessary.”

“It is better to know your status, so you can guide yourself and save others too. If mine was positive, I would have still posted it but might not be just at that particular moment. AgegePulse Magazine

Akinola Ajibola

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr David Lyon, has won the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Faraday Orunmuwese, announced this on Monday morning.

Professor Orunmuwese returned Lyon as the winner of the keenly contested election after scoring the highest number of votes in the poll.

The APC candidate polled a total of 352,552 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Duoye Diri, who scored 143,172 votes.

Residents of Bayelsa had taken to various polling units in their respective wards to cast their ballots in a bid to elect a new governor to succeed Mr Seriake Dickson who is about to complete his second term as governor of the state.

Governor Dickson had supported Mr Diri to succeed him in his bid to ensure the PDP continues to rule in Bayelsa, following the exit of the state’s former governor and present Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, from office in 2012.

He was, however, unable to achieve this as Diri suffered defeat to his APC rival with a difference of over 180,000 votes.

LASEMA Quells Ogba, Banana Island Fire Outbreaks

...Reduced Response Time, Root of Quick Operations-DG LASEMA, Oke-Osanyintolu

AgegePulse Magazine

Swift and timely response of LASEMA to reported fire outbreak at 25, Oyemekun street, Ifako, Ogba, stopped the entire building from being burnt down.

According to reports of preliminary investigations conducted at the incident scene, the fire broke out from the air conditioner installed in the studio at the top floor of the building.

Though no injuries, fatalities or deaths were recorded at the Oyemekun Street fire incident by the time it was completely put out and dampened down, the successful operation was attributed to abilities of the responders to quickly bring the fire under control.

Speaking on the swift quelling of the fire outbreak at 25, Oyemekun street, the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, attributed success of swift operations mainly  to the response time of the emergency agency.

According to him, the fire which gutted the upper floor of the duplex did not spread beyond that, due to the prompt arrival of LASEMA response team which got there in record time to put out the fire. An act which he said prevented the fire from burning down the entire building.

Going further, the DG LASEMA said, "This is level of swift recovery is only made possible due to the reducing response time which LASEMA is ever mindful of, plus the incessant training of it's response teams.

Furthermore, the Incident Commander said, "reducing response time and increasing abilities of the Agency's responders, is at the root of LASEMA's consistent success in safeguarding lives and properties of Lagosians".

In a related development,  LASEMA in response to another emergency call this time on Lagos island, put out another fire at Close 223 Living Gold in Banana Island today.

The fire which investigation carried out at the scene of incident revealed resulted from a power surge that started from Air-conditioner units.

The fire incident which did not record any loss of lives nor injuries, that gutted a building branded Field Company Limited at banana Island in Lagos, was quickly curtailed by LASEMA response team before it could spread to other parts of the house.

After the quick recovery of the incident site by LASEMA team, the emergency responders ensured that the fire was compleletely put out and dampened to prevent the likelihood of secondary incidents.

Speaking on the incessant fire incidents in recent times, the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the agency's observation about recent fire incidents was deduced from available data which attributed a large percentage of fire outbreaks to manmade errors and electrical power surges.

Going further, he said some of these fire incidents were preventable by observing simple precautionary measures such as complete disengagement of domestic appliances from power sources and purchase of appropriate and well positioned fire extinguishers.

Said he, "the simple act of removing the 15 ampere plug of air-conditioning units, effectively cuts off electricity power supply from them at close of work, or not when in use.

"With this simple disconnection from power sources whether attached to voltage regulators or otherwise, no spark can occur even with the most sudden, or powerful electrical surges, between an unconnected appliance and an electricity power outlet".

The Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu thereafter charged Lagosians to continue being vigilant and utilize the 767 or 112 Toll Free Emergency numbers while observing simple precautionary measures in their homes and work places.

Armed robbers engage Lagos Police in a deadly roller-coaster show

…Mesmerize watchers

…Kill ASP, motorcyclist, injure female Inspector

Four years, residents of Lagos, the city of Excellence, have not seen this kind of spectacle. In fact, the emerging scenario was typical of the dreaded era of robbery kingpin Onyenusi who held Lagosians on the jugular for months, killing, maiming and attacking security men freely as the king of the underworld.

Lekki experience

Such by armed robbers in Lagos was last witnessed more than five years now in Lagos state. Police authorities then were jolted by the temerity of the daredevils who struck in the very busy Lekki area close to the magnificent bridge that links Ikoyi with Lekki. They invaded banks along the water ways from the creeks in the evening hours when people were rushing home after the day’s busy schedules. They released volleys of bullets and carted away millions of naira from the banks after killing many people including policemen.

Enter CP Imohimi Edgal

The operation was such that police authorities swung into action and started raiding all the creeks in Lagos and beyond with a view to stopping such violent raids by the militants who were also kidnapping and killing people at will. While the criminals were at their best elements, posing a great threat to the security of the state, another Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal was appointed in the state. His era witnessed a total clampdown on many criminal activities in the state including the deadly onslaught of the dreaded Badoo cult gang. He recorded huge success.

Now, attack in Ikoyi

Alas, the table turned, last Thursday, in Ikoyi area three armed men operating in a motorcycle brazenly took the bull by the horn and struck in a GSM shop along Adeola Odeku, and tried to shoot their way out of the scene. Reports said that the hoodlums also accosted a man who just withdrew huge sums of money from a nearby bank and forcefully snatched the money from him before attempting to escape. Unfortunately for them, policemen from both Ikoyi division, Onikan and other adjoining areas had converged after receiving information about their operation.

Shootout with the police

Crime Guard learned that as soon as the robbers sited the alert policemen, they engaged them in a heavy shootout while at the same time paving way for their escape in their motorcycle. They were said to be releasing bullets indiscriminately resulting in pandemonium which made it impossible for the police team to meet up with the fleeing robbers. Eyewitnesses said while the robbers who were operating with three motorcycles were busy shooting and maneuvering their way out of danger, they were closely followed by the police. The police team, according to sources, had stern directives to avoid casualties while trying to apprehend the robbers.

Hair raising encounter

Interestingly, it was gathered that the Hollywood and Gestapo styles displayed by the fleeing daredevils baffled a lot of people as they watched and applauded the emerging display of craftsmanship in criminality. A commuter who was inside a commercial bus told Crime Guard that he was nearly tempted to hold one of the robbers on top of his bike. “While we were hearing sporadic gun shots, many people came down from our bus and ran for their safety. I did not know where to run to and I simply stayed by the bus. While I was there, a motorcyclist rode very close to me and if I had known, I would have held him tight. He is lanky and black. As soon as he left where I was, he started shooting into the air. In fact, I nearly collapsed.”

However, the police on their part were professionally targeting them keenly while they meandered through the heavy traffic along their way of escape through Awolowo Way and Falomo area. While this was going on, motorists stuck in the traffic were running helter skelter in order to avoid being hit by volleys of bullet being released by the robbers. Sadly, when the robbers got to a junction near Falomo , they shot an Assistant Superintendent of Police and a female Inspector who were busy controlling traffic.

They also shot and wounded another commercial motorcyclist who ran into their way along the route.

Casualties recorded

Police sources said while they were escaping from Falomo axis, one of them fell off his motorcycle and was promptly arrested while the rest fled through the adjoining bridge and disappeared to an unknown place. The wounded ASP and Inspector were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital where the ASP was pronounced dead while the Inspector is still recuperating in the hospital. The commercial motorcyclist whose identity could not be ascertained as at press time, died on the spot.

SARS swings into action

Meanwhile, police sources intimated Crime Guard that a crack team of policemen from the Special Anti Robbery Squad has been deployed to the area and beyond to fish out the fleeing robbers. It was gathered that the mysterious way the robbers disappeared around the bridges in Falomo fuelled speculations in security circles that they may not have gone far out of the scene of the attack.

LASUBEB calls on parents to monitor social media usage by children

AgegePulse Magazine

The Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King has called on parents of primary school pupils to monitor the usage of social media platforms by their wards.

Alawiye-King made the call on Thursday during a sensitisation programme organised by the Guidance and Counselling Department of LASUBEB on “The Effect of Social Media on A Growing Child” at Agidingbi Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos.

While noting that it might not be totally possible to debar the pupils from using the internet, he maintained that parental involvement and control would help curb some social media-related vices that are now prevalent in society.

The Chairman, represented at the event by the Board member of LASUBEB in charge of Special Duties, Mr. Dayo Israel, urged school pupils present at the programme to imbibe good behaviour as worthy ambassadors of the State.

In her contribution, Mrs. Sherifat Sanusi Adedoyin, also a Board member of LASUBEB, said that the programme was geared towards proper parenting to dissuade pupils from vices that could truncate their future, saying “Children are the heritage from God and it is our responsibility to groom them to become great individuals in life”.

Dr. Bola Makinde of the Department of Educational Foundations, University of Lagos, UNILAG, who was the Guest Lecturer at the event said that the internet has made it possible for children to develop necessary technical skills, especially through Games and Mathematical tasks that could help them in future.

“As an experienced tutor, I am aware that social media can help widen the horizon of children by reading far and near beyond textbooks, most especially when they are preparing to write examinations”, Makinde said.

She noted that social media could also affect children negatively in so many ways, including poor study habit, poor mental health, improper dressing, pornography, suicidal thoughts and depression, among several other risks.

The Guest Lecturer, however, underscored the vital roles of parents and teachers in ensuring that school pupils are not negatively affected through their exposure and time spent on the internet, maintaining that “time spent on social media by children should be strictly monitored and accounted for productively”.

In the same vein, Head of Guidance and Counselling Unit of LASUBEB, Mrs. Folashade Oladepo asserted that counsellors have made tremendous achievements in schools through different Guidance and Counselling activities ranging from Individual, Group and Career Counseling as well as Orientation Programmes.

Oladepo disclosed that LASUBEB organised the programme to emphasise the need for pupils to maintain their dignity and self-worth at the primary school level.

Gov. Abiodun Commiserates with Ota Petrol Tanker Victims

...weeps, picks hospital bills, orders transfer to specialist hospitals

AgegePulse Magazine

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised that the incessant accidents on the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway would soon be a thing of the past.

Prince Abiodun, while commiserating with victims of an inferno at the Sango toll gate on Thursday night, which led to loss of lives and properties, said that the planned takeover of the road by both the Ogun and Lagos state governments would put an end to the unnecessary loss of lives and properties in the area.

An emotional Governor Abiodun wept as he ordered the transfer of victims to tertiary healthcare facilities in Lagos and Abeokuta promised to pay the medical bills of the victims.

Two people reportedly died in the inferno and properties worth millions of naira destroyed when a fuel laden truck went up in flames after being involved in an accident as a result of brake failure.

Governor Abiodun, while addressing residents at Ota toll gate and the State Hospital in the town noted that the Federal Government should accede to the demands of both the Lagos and Ogun state governments to reconstruct the road to stem the incessant accident in the axis.

He said: “I am most distressed by the news of the midnight inferno at the Sango toll gate, which was the result of an accident by a fuel laden truck.

“It is heart breaking that many lives were lost in addition to properties running into millions of naira.

“This sad occurrence has made our quest to take over the management of this road more compelling. The incessant road mishap around the toll gate axis is avoidable. While I commiserate with those who lost their loved ones and property, we shall do everything humanly possible to forestall future recurrence.”

Governor Abiodun prayed for the repose of the soul of the dead and called for caution on the part of motorists conveying fuel and other explosive products across roads with heavy vehicular movement and human traffic.

“May I use this opportunity to once again plead that the Federal Government should approve the request of both the Ogun and Lagos State Governments to take this all-important Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta expressway over,” he said.

The governor said firefighters and officers of TRACE and sister agencies have since been on ground, putting out the fire, easing its effects on traffic and attending to victims.

The governor reassures the people that the joint efforts with the Lagos State Government will be intensified, to take over the road from the Federal Government in order to bring in the needed succor.

“Once the road is taken over, expedited action will be taken to immediately begin reconstruction, so that there may be easy movement of goods and person, and consequently, a reduction in the occurrence of accidents of this nature,” the governor added.

Land grabbing: Lagos arrests 19 persons

. . . Warns Land Grabbers To Desist From Illicit Activities

The Lagos State Government, through the Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers (LSSTFLG), has arrested 19 suspects for offences bordering on trespass, illegal occupation, forceful land take-over and prevention of lawful entry by violence in connection with a land situated at Plot 1, Block II, Ogudu Phase II Government Residential Scheme in Kosofe Local Government Area.

Lagos Attorney-General and Chairman of the Special Task Force on Land Grabbers, Mr. Moyo Onigbanjo, SAN, who confirmed the arrest to newsmen said, 18 men and one woman were arrested in a sting operation by officials of the LSSTFLG led by the Coordinator, Mr. Owolabi Arole and police officers attached to the State Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit.

Onigbanjo disclosed that the arrested persons have been handed over to State Police Command for prosecution at the Special Offences Court of Lagos State on a three-count charge.

He said, “This arrest is the culmination of the investigation carried out by the Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers after a petition was submitted by Attorneys on behalf of Mr. Ade Bamtefa; the petitioner and claimant of the land. On receiving the petition, officials of the State Special Taskforce swung into action.

“Both parties were invited for a meeting to establish the veracity or otherwise of the petition. It was, however, discovered from our findings that the arrested persons resorted to self-help by, not only trespassing on the land which had been cordoned off with a ‘KEEP-OFF’ inscription pending the conclusion of an investigation but had also started erecting structures on the land. This is unacceptable and contrary to some sections the Property Protection Law, 2016”, Onigbanjo added.

While noting that the Special Taskforce has been re-energised to receive petitions and conduct proper investigation concerning any case of land grabbing in Lagos, the Commissioner frowned at the alarming rate at which land grabbers prevent persons or entities from acquiring legitimate interest and possession of acquired property, especially on Government Residential Schemes.

“Government Residential Schemes are planned schemes documented under the law which ordinarily shouldn’t be subject to cases of land grabbing and illegal occupation. This current trend of having land grabbers encroach on land under government schemes is unacceptable and will be treated seriously like other cases of land grabbing”, he maintained.

He, therefore, advised legitimate land and property owners in the State to perfect the title as well as other legal documents pertaining to their property, saying this will help dissuade land grabbers from their illicit trade and ensure easy administration of justice in the event that such property were encroached on.

The Attorney-General also implored members of the public to forward their complaints on land grabbing issues to the Taskforce by addressing a petition to his office or through the numbers - 09096667123, 09020085005.

CCHR, CACOBAG, REACT OVER APPROVAL OF N10B TO KOGI TWO DAYS TO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION.

...NIGERIA SENATORS  SHOULD STOP ARROGATING POWER TO THEMSELVES.

...SAYS THEY CAN NOT GAG NIGERIANS WITH "HATE SPEECH COMMISSION.

Where are we heading to in this country ?

What do we say of senate's approval of N10b for Kogi State two days to governorship  election ?

How do we get good governance in this country?

This act of the senate has further proven us right that Lawan led senate and Gbajabiamila led House of Reps may just be rubber stamp legislative houses. No doubt,we have been vindicated.
The fight against Corruption is being threatened regardless of the efforts of EFCC and ICPC.

Our Constitution in Section 15 (5) equates abuse of office with Corruption. This means by extension, abuse of office is also a form of Corruption.

Why the approval of  ten billion naira to Kogi State now? We are optimistic, the said money will be released to the state   instantly.

It's not an overstatement that the present government and APC may eventually murder this democracy.

The essence of three arms of government is to keep each other in check.

The legislature and executive can not guarantee  good governance if what they do between themselves is what Baba 70 of blessed memory called "arrangee" government.

How do one expect a legislative house that forfeits its independence to the executive to perform its oversight function?

A senate that has no concern for the welfare and feeling of Nigerians , that does not bother to debate or investigate the link between a minister and Al Qaeda and by extension Boko Haram, that does not debate how to truly conquer acts of terrorism in Nigeria, that treats disobedience of court order by executive with levity  but occupied itself with how to hang and murder Nigerians through " hate speech commission"

As much as we at CCHR and  CACOBAG detest capital punishment except in matters like murder , armed robbery, terrorism etc. We would have expected the senate to raise the issue of death sentence for corrupt elements , kidnappers , election riggers, Boko Haram members etc.,though we would still oppose it but for the senate not to think of anything other than death for Nigerians because of "hate speech" is shocking and an embarrassment to us as a people.

We wonder if the senate is conversant with the Iaws? Are the senators saying we don't have adequate provisions in the our statutory books to take care of hate speech ?
The senate should stop threatening us with death .They should be reminded that this life is ephemeral, everybody including the senators will die one day.

God did not create us to live for ever. Everybody has his or her appointed time. Many of us  " challenged " death by fighting the military to submission as to have this democracy which the senators are enjoying and reaping from where many of them did not sew.

Many of them took cover everywhere while we were on the streets in the day and at night to have democracy.
Dying for the cause that one believes and dying for one s country is not only heroic but also Godly.

Nigerians will never keep quiet when we are being oppressed or misgorverned.
This government should be reminded that it got to power through "hate speech" against it's predecessor in office.

Many APC leaders, members and supporters  employed several " hate speeches " either rightly or wrongly to have sympathy and votes of Nigerians.
Why is it now that the government that came to power as a result of several propaganda against it's predecessor is now afraid of "such hate speeches " it once employed to get the political power being used against the electorate that voted for it ?
To us at CACOBAG, nobody can gag Nigerians from speaking against any bad policy of the government and condemning  those involved. Either it's called "hate speech " or whatever is not our concern. It could be regarded as anything.
Nigerians now understand  better the need to know  the pedigree  of those to elect into various political positions.

Those that seek power to oppress and for selfish aggrandizement will do Nigeria and Nigerians no good.

No Nigerian should loose sleep over this  provocative bill being debated by the senate. It's no issue at all. It's dead  on arrival.
The Senate should first of all go ahead to amend Sections 38 and 39 of  1999 CFRN as amended for them to have the nonsensical and nauseating ",hate speech " bill passed into law.

Section 1(3 ) of our Constitution is express without any form of ambiguity.
Not only that , for some of the senators that are desperate to have the bill passed into law may say it's " simple and easy " to amend the Constitution. They must also go ahead to use their "power "  to amend African Charter on Human and People's Rights as well as Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

Only then can they succed with the draconian law being proposed.
In their interest, they should not debate the bill further or else they should be prepared for recall by their constituents, legal battles in the court of law to declare the law a nullity and mother of all protests by Nigerians to seal the senate chambers.
We as electorate are their employers. They should not arrogate any power or superiority to themselves.
We hope wise counsel will prevail.
