United States Blocks Green Card For Nigerian Citizens, Five Others

U.S. President Donald Trump announces his decision on the JCPOA Iran nuclear agreement at the White House in Washington, U.S., May 8, 2018. REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst
BEVERLY HILLS, January 31, (THEWILL) – The Trump administration Friday announced its anticipated travel restriction on Nigeria and its citizens, alongside nationals of five other countries, blocking them from migrating to the United States to live.
The administration’s policy also blocks immigration from Eritrea, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan in an expansion of its controversial policy blocking travel from seven other nations announced when President Donald Trump took office.
According to reporting by the Washington Street Journal, in the new policy, the citizens of these countries will not be able to apply for any category of visas that will allow them live lawfully in the United States anymore.
The administration said it designed the new policy to tighten security for countries that do not comply with the U.S. minimum security standard or cooperate to prevent illegal immigration.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary, Chad Wolf said during a call with reporters on Friday that the targeted immigrant visas are distinct from non-immigrant visas typically issued to visitors, which will not be impacted by the ban.
A Reuters report quoting Wolf said the U.S. government will also stop issuing “diversity visas” to nationals of Sudan and Tanzania.
The visas – which Trump has criticized in the past – are available by lottery for applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
Wolf said the six countries failed to meet U.S. security and information-sharing standards, which necessitated the new restrictions. The problems Wolf cited ranged from sub-par passport technology to a failure to sufficiently exchange information on terrorism suspects and criminals.
“These countries, for the most part, want to be helpful,” Wolf said, “but for a variety of different reasons simply failed to meet those minimum requirements that we laid out.”
The original travel ban – issued during Trump’s first week in office in January 2017 – barred nearly all immigrants and travelers from seven Muslim-majority nations. The policy was revised amid court challenges, but the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately upheld it in June 2018.
The existing version of the ban includes the Muslim-majority nations of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. North Korea and Venezuela also face visa restrictions, but those measures affect relatively few travelers.
Those restrictions will remain in place, Wolf said.
Trump has made his immigration crackdown a focus of his 2020 reelection campaign and is expected to press the issue in the months ahead.
Critics contend the ban disproportionately targets Muslim-majority nations.
In 2015, during Trump’s campaign for president, he called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”
Three of the nations included in the updated ban – Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria and Sudan – have majority Muslim populations. Eritrea and Tanzania have sizable Muslim minorities.

Aare Gani Adams Commends Ooni, Alaafin, Others Over Operation Amotekun

...Pays Homage To Ooni Ogunwusi As Oduduwa Festival Sets To Hold In Ile-Ife

AgegePulse Magazine

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adam on Thursday paid homage to the Arole Oodua & Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, as he led other descendants of Oduduwa in the celebration of the annual Oduduwa Festival.

In his words, Aare Adam described the Ooni as the only monarch with the seal of Oduduwa, expressing that he holds the foremost African traditional ruler in a very high esteem as his father.

"As the Arole Oduduwa, all descendants of Oduduwa must bow in respect for the highly respected throne because he is the father of all. I respect him so much because he is my father and I will continue to do so." Gani Adam explained.

While acknowledging the Ooni for his relentless efforts towards uniting the descendants of Oduduwa, Aare Adam expressed his joy over what he described an improved level of unity in Yorubaland which he said was fully displayed in the formation of the South-West Security Network, also known as Operation Amotekun recently.

"Let me commend Kabiesi, the Oonirisa, the Alaafin of Oyo and other prominent Obas, leaders of socio cultural organizations, civil society groups and individuals for supporting the crusade for Operation Amotekun.

"The events that played out during the crusade for Operation Amotekun clearly indicated  that the Oduduwa blood truly flow in our veins.

"When the issue of Amotekun came up, I made my position known to the world, without minding whose ox is gored. I said it clearly, that whoever that is against the initiative was an enemy of our race.

"It shows that in unity, everything is possible. So I am using this opportunity to appeal to all the state legislatures to do the needful by legislating the initiative giving it the necessary legal backing. When this is done, we can be sure of winning the war for a better future." Gani Adam noted.

While addressing the cheering crowd, Ooni Ogunwusi who is the natural head of the entire House of Oduduwa worldwide described the descendants of Oduduwa a section of which is called Yoruba as uniquely different people created by the Most High God.

"Take a close look at our people, their conducts and lifestyle anywhere in the world, you will agree with me that we are uniquely different. No matter where we find ourselves, we are pace setters and that is the value we must continue to uphold.

"What we need to add to our uniqueness is love, let us love ourselves and others in order to record more wins. I am confident that if we live in love and unity, we will soar above whatever challenges that may confront us.

"I hail the courage of Aare Ganiyu Adam for his commitment especially in terms of resources to ensure the consistent celebration of Oduduwa festival annually. May God continue to bless him and other members of the Oodua People's Congress, Oodua Progressive Union, as well as all descendants of Oduduwa across the world." The Ooni noted.

IKOSI-ISHERI SWEARING-IN: A LEGALITY OR AN ILLEGALITY?

Contrary to the law and the guidelines that govern the local government administration in Lagos State as amended in 2015, it was observed that the Kosofe Inside-Out article has propelled the powers that decide who becomes the executive chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA to take a step ahead by announcing Thursday 30th January, 2020, as the new date to swear-in the current Vice-Chairman, Hon. Princess Samiat Bada. Will this move make this document which has been passed into law ‘obsolete’, just 5 years after? Or they are trying to leverage on the naivety of the new government?

Unconfirmed reports made it known that this same guideline that was passed in 2015 was amended again in 2017. We wonder if this so called amendment saw the light of the day, or is the amended document locked up in somebody’s locker at the house of assembly complex?

Are the laws meant to be in the custody of the lawmaker or it is meant to be disseminated to the people? The honourable house of assembly member, Barrister Tunde Braimoh should bail us out of this dilemma by making the laws available for the people’s perusal. Let the people know the laws that guide them.

Being a legislator is an avenue to create awareness for your constituents to be legally informed on the position of the existing laws, the amended laws and other government policies.

The lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II, at the house of assembly is in the best position to shed light on this matter. Barrister Tunde Braimoh is the number one custodian of the law of the people in the constituency II locality.

If this law was amended as claimed in 2017, the house of assembly member representing Kosofe constituency II should be held culpable for not bringing his constituents to speed on the current status of the law which emanates from the State assembly complex. The success of a legislator lies in the level of the awareness he furnishes his constituency. Infact, this is the legislator’s score card. It is a shame that Kosofe Inside-Out operates in this constituency, and one of such information have not been dispersed from the staples of the honourable house of assembly member to the public in five years of his tenure.

We won’t quickly forget that in December, 2019,  Hon Okanlawon Babatunde Sanni, OKLA, made public all that he was able to achieve in six months of stepping into the shoes of Hon. Bayo Osinowo. He didn’t disappoint his constituents, he went ahead to add some youth support programmes to compliment his legislative functions. The initial fear of Kosofe constituency 1 residents and stakeholders was whether he could fill the vacuum Hon. Osinowo has left behind. OKLA has surely demonstrated his competence.

In order to bury this shame, the honourable constituency II lawmaker should kindly publish the amended laws and periodically furnish the people he represents with the law, the amended law, or the proposed law to be amended. This is the primary function of a legislator.

If truly there is an amendment made to the guidelines of local government administration as claimed, then we, at Kosofe Inside-Out shouldn’t be held responsible for being ignorant of this, the legislator hasn’t done enough in terms of awareness. If you visit our website, www.kosofeinsideout.blogspot.com, every information at our disposal is made readily available for our people’s consumption, we know that Kosofe Inside-Out is the people’s first stop for any adequate information, complimented with facts, same is for our printed editions.

There shouldn’t be secrecy in governance, especially a legislative arm. How come the acclaimed member who jointly passed this document in 2017 hasn’t publish this document on any of the social media platforms? Why has this document not surfaced anywhere? Why is this document so sacred, that after ransacking all the archives, it is yet to be found? Even the local government doesn’t have the laws that govern it, how do we hold the executive officers to law when they are contravening it?
Where can we find these laws? There should be a comprehensive document of the guidelines that is binding on the people made available somewhere. Not screenshots. Anybody can cook up a screenshot of any organisation’s document. These laws can be made available for the people on social media, as Kosofe Inside-Out deemed necessary on our blog when we got hold of the guidelines of the local government administration as amended in 2015.

During the last administration of Governor Ambode, every issue was made available online.

People were able to access all government policies because Ambode was press friendly, you can’t run a public office and be an enemy of the press. Why should the laws made for the people, to guide the people and to bind the people be taken far from the people?

In saner climes, lawmakers don’t create social media handles just because they want to publish pictures of parties they have attended and abandon the job they are paid to do. Social handles are meant to distribute laws passed, amended et al. You are giving us the impression that parties and social functions are the only places where our lawmakers expend the common wealth of the nation.

Which community beneficial programme or project or law has been made public through the social media platforms of yours that has brought the greatest good to the greatest number of your constituents, as being preached on your campaign posters and billboards?

As a respected barrister of the bar, Hon. Braimoh should represent Kosofe constituency II better, not by whatever might have transpired at the house of assembly complex, but at the community level where information should be disseminated. The scorecard of a lawmaker is solely on the level of awareness his constituents has on the existing laws, the amended laws and the proposed laws.
We enjoin all house of assembly members in Lagos State to always furnish their constituents with adequate information, most especially the laws that guide the people.

If anyone thinks we have stepped on toes by calling the attention of the public to what the law says about running the affairs of the government. We will be glad to have you furnish us with a comprehensive document of the amended 2017 version of the guidelines governing the affairs of the councils, else, we stand by the 2015 version available at our disposal.

Kindly click on the link below to give yourself a read of the guidelines on administrative procedures of local government administration.

The Lagos State Government has alerted the public to a new virus, the novel Coronavirus (nCoV) which is currently raging in China and have been reported some countries of the world including United States of America and have caused no fewer than nine deaths.

The State Government through a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi said Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Abayomi explained that the novel Coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans adding that Coronaviruses are primarily infections of animals that can be transmitted to humans.

“On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO), China Country Office was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause, detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. A novel Coronavirus was identified as the causative virus by Chinese authorities on the 7th January”

“As of 22nd January 2020, a total of 471 cases have been confirmed in South East Asia and USA with 9 deaths. There is evidence now that the infection is able to spread from person to person”, the Commissioner said.

While noting that no cases of the virus have been identified in Lagos, Nigeria or anywhere in Africa, the Commissioner stated that the State Lagos is ramping up its level of preparedness considering the large commercial trading traffic between Nigeria and China and Thailand.

“The Lagos State Biosecurity team in collaboration with Lagos University Teaching Hospital is currently working on building urgent capacity to identify the virus in our Biosecurity facility and isolation wards located at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba in the event of any suspected case arriving in Lagos State”

“We are in touch with Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abuja to align our strategies. Importantly we are also collaborating with the Federal Ports Authority at air, land and sea border posts to elevate screening and surveillance of incoming travelers”, he said

Abayomi urged citizens to adopt and practice high standard of personal and environmental hygiene including regular hand washing, covering of mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing and practice good biosecurity precautions with domestic and wild animals as measures against the transmission of any kind contagious infection, nCoV inclusive.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the popular Grand Ibro Hotel, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT, where the romp took place.

The lady, Victory, was said to be facing murder charge based on Police suspicion that she might have engaged the deceased, Danjuma Yahaya Alli, in marathon sex that eventually caused his death.

Education: Old students to build library for DFSS Agege

AgegePulse Magazine

Dairy Farm Logo

By KAZEEM AKANDE

The 1989 set of Diary Farm Secondary School (DFSS) Agege, says efforts are in place to build a N3 million worth of library to enhance learning process of students in the institution.

Mr Adetunji Adeleke, the Senior Prefect of the set, made this known on the sidelines of the reunion of the old students, 30 years after graduation in Lagos on Sunday.

“We are celebrating the maiden edition of our reunion for 30 years after leaving school. I am seeing most our class mates that we left the gate of the school several years ago.

Also, Kwara Govt didn’t ban religious activities in public schools – CAN.

“I am amazed, excited and we have rolled out a lot of plans to ensure that we are able to give back to our school.

“Presently we are fixing all the aluminium windows and doors in the school. We have other plans of building the library and equipping it and the laboratory too.

“We are looking at building a library worth N3 million and equip it for the benefit of the students.

“We will work assiduously to achieve that. Put the modern library in good shape and deliver it to the school,” he said.

According to him, those infrastructure will come in batches, including the school hall too.

Adeleke said that the school infrastructure projects would be done yearly, until the school’s challenges were totally fixed.

“Most of us are scattered across the globe. We have medical doctors, lawyers, pharmacists and entrepreneurs; where most of us have reached the top echelon of our careers.

“We now think this is the right time for us to come together to give back to the school and I think that will give the students encouragement to forge ahead.

“Seeing us coming together as a set that finished many years ago, it would encourage the students to go further in their studies,” he added.

Mr Ojo Oladele, the DFSS ’89 Alumni Coordinator, said that the aim of the coming together to embark on such project was meant to give back to the school, what they had received.

“The aim of the project is to give back to the school what we have achieved for the benefit of the coming generations.

“We just finished a project in the school, providing a new set of windows and doors.

“Recently when we visited the school, we discovered most of the windows and doors were not there.

“Then we provided the little we can. Our responsibility to the school is an ongoing thing.

“We still have a lot of project to do both in terms of infrastructure and the one that will have direct impact on the students,” Oladele said

According to him, there is total decadence in terms of infrastructure in the school, unlike in the years past.

“Unlike then, when we have very few private schools, both rich and the poor then attended the public schools. Unlike now where everybody is building schools.

“That is why public schools have been relegated to the background. There are some parents who do not want their children in public schools,” he added

Mrs Folashade Olaniyi, a member of the alumni, stated that it was a great joy that the old students were able to put themselves together after 30 years of graduation from the college.

“The last time we met like this was 1989 when we dropped the pen at the college.

“That we are able to talk to each other, connect and interact to meet each other in person, is a thing of great joy.

“It is also a great joy for us to be able to put things together for the school for the benefit of the students and for the coming generations,” she said.

The school was founded on Sept. 6, 1982 with a population of 220 students and three teachers.

Breaking: LASG Announces Okada/Tricyle Ban in Six Local Government Areas ...Enforcement Begins February 1, 2020

AgegePulse Magazine

After a robust assessment of the debate on what has been widely referred to as the Motorcycle (Okada) and Tricycle (Keke) Menace, the Lagos State Government and the State Security Council have decided that the security and safety of lives of Lagosians are paramount.
The figures are scary.  From 2016 to 2019, there were over 10,000 accidents recorded at the General Hospitals alone.  This number excludes unreported cases and those recorded by other hospitals.  The total number of deaths from reported cases is over 600 as at date.

The rate of crimes aided by Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) keeps rising.  Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) are also used as getaway means by criminals.

Therefore, after consultations with stakeholders, the State Security Council, in compliance with the extant Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, has decided to commence enforcement of the law which bans the operation of Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) in the following Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs):

 Eti-Osa LG, Ikoyi-Obalende and Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs
 Lagos Island LG and Lagos Island East LCDA

The full enforcement begins on February 1, 2020.

Sad: How Kobe Bryant, Others Died in California Helicopter Crash!

AgegePulse Magazine

Legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant has died in a California helicopter crash, reports said Sunday.

He was 41.

The retired Los Angeles Lakers star was traveling in his private helicopter over Calabasas when a fire broke out, sending the chopper spiraling from the sky, according to TMZ Sports.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. local time amid foggy conditions in the hills overlooking Calabasas, with the Sikorsky S-76 chopper sparking a brush fire on impact that hampered initial rescue efforts, according to The Los Angeles Times, which confirmed the deaths of Bryant and four others aboard the craft.

There were no survivors, and the cause of the crash is under investigation, according to TMZ.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday reaffirmed his administration's plan to transform the educational sector of the State, vowing to increase government's investment for the good of the pupils.

Over 3000 teachers from various schools and education districts across the State converged at De Blue Roof of the Lagos Television, Ikeja where the Governor formally launched the EKOEXCEL, a teachers’ professional development and training programme.

Earlier, primary school teachers went through a 2 weeks training process, organised by the State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) to increase capacity and develop manpower of teachers in the State.

Sanwo-olu noted that at the end, over 14,000 primary school teachers would have benefited from the initiative while over 500,000 pupils would have been positively impacted.

The Governor said: “I am particularly happy that this programme is holding at a time when all hands are on deck to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is improved across all our schools in the State.

“As a responsible government, we will continue the massive investment in this sector, with the training and retraining of our teachers, making the sector more ICT compliant, exposing our teachers to international best practices as well as ensuring that our schools become a destination for work and learning.

“We resolved to address these problems through combining innovative technological approach that is scientifically based, with effective training and empowering our teachers in every Local Government to strengthen their capacity and deliver quality education to our children.”

The Governor, in a bid to encourage teachers and make good examples from outstanding ones, said the State Government will identify the best Head Teachers in all the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs and reward them with a car each.

He noted that his administration is not paying lip service to the repositioning of the educational sector, noting that it is the reason the education ministry got a significantly higher envelope in the 2020 budget.

The Governor also promised that teachers will undergo free sight assessment and reading glasses will be provided for every teacher that requires it to be able to discharge their duties effectively.

EKOEXCEL, which is Excellence in Child Learning and Education Programme is a Lagos State primary education transformation initiative.

With the EKOEXCEL Programme, over 14,000 Head Teachers and teachers will be moved from analogue to digital teaching, using tablets and updated curriculum. Over 3,000 primary school teachers from 300 public primary schools have been captured under the Pilot Scheme.

An initiative of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, the EKOEXCEL is aimed at developing a highly-skilled teaching workforce by training, supporting and motivating Lagos State teachers to succeed in the classroom of tomorrow and enhance the State Basic Education curriculum thereby empowering children to compete effectively in the world of work.

The programme will equip teachers with skills to deliver value, empower pupils with requisite knowledge to improve education and help in sustaining the growth of Lagos State as a leading knowledge driven city and economy in the world.

South-West Governors Turning ‘Amotekun’ into Christian Militia-MURIC

AgegePulse Magazine

Ishaq Akintola, director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has accused governors of the south-west of recruiting only Christians into Amotekun, the regional security outfit.

In a statement on Friday, Akintola alleged that an ongoing recruitment by the security outfit has mandated applicants to submit birth certificates registered only in churches.

The director of the organisation said only one out of the six governors in the region is a Muslim.

He alleged that the five Christian governors are ganging up to turn Amotekun to a “crusader militia”.

“Let us make our stand on Amotekun clear from the beginning. MURIC is not allergic to any state or region taking steps aimed at rubber-cushioning the effect of the security challenges currently facing Nigeria. But the approach must be transparent, assuring and all-embracing,” he said.

“We have no objection to Amotekun. But ‘good intention’ appears lacking in the preparations for it as a security unit that will complement the work of the conventional security agencies. It appears shrouded in secrecy while attempts are being made to marginalize Muslims in the recruitment exercise.

“Or how does one describe the social media advertisement in which applicants are being requested to bring birth certificates from the church. This is most outrageous. Amotekun has not started, but we are already seeing symptoms of Christianisation and Islamophobia.

“Are the job vacancies which Amotekun is certain to open meant for Christians only? Are the South West states declaring their state as Christian states? Are they joining Nyesome Wike of Rivers in a Christian enclave? Is Amotekun a secret Christian army? Only one out of the five governors in the region is a Muslim. Are the Christian governors ganging up to form a crusader militia?

“Why then must applicants bring birth certificates from churches? Are we sure that this will not be followed by a request for applicants to bring referral letters from pastors? Handlers of Amotekun owe us an explanation"
