“It is clear that they are exempted but that doesn’t stop them from doing proper filing and ensure transparent reporting at whichever level of their business.

“We will also use this opportunity to encourage our citizens that it is only when they play their own part as responsible citizens both at the corporate and individual level that the government can come up and discharge its responsibilities.

“Development is by tax and it is only when we collect reasonably amount of tax that we can introduce development both at infrastructure level and more importantly on security so we cannot but ensure that we collaborate and corporate with you," he said.

Responding to the Chairman on the N8.5 trillion target set by the President, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the country has the capacity to generate such amount but warned that it must be done cautiously.

AgegePulse Magazine

LASEMA curtails fire again as another incident ravages Apongbon Market where the outbreak was said to have emanated from one of the several containerized stores within the market.
Reports revealed that the fire emanated from the roof portion of one of the containerized stores at the market.  Cause of the inferno which later escalated to other shops was attributed to power surge.
The inferno which spread across six containerized shops as efforts were ongoing to combat it, eventually consumed eight shops in all before it was eventually extinguished.
Speaking on the incidence, DG/CEO LASEMA Dr. Olufemi Okey-Osanyitolu urged Lagosians to be calm that the fire has been brought under control and completely contained, asserting that recovery and post fire assessment had been conducted as well.

Still commenting, Dr. Okey-Osanyitolu stated that todays market inferno was one too many. He reiterated that the harmatan season, storage of combustible materials and carelessness were mainly responsible for the incessant fires.

Going on, the LASEMA boss noted that a major factor responsible for incessant fires this harmattan season, despite the Agencys relentless public enlightenment efforts, power surge from public electricity power supply, was again fingered as the culprit in todays fire incidence.

He went on to restate the need for everybody to continue to be conscious of the status of their domestic appliances, quality of materials used for their home/business accommodations wirings, as well as the need to switch off all electrical appliances and unplug all air conditioners/coolants not in use at the end of each day after close of business.

He concluded on a note of caution that, emergency management was everyone's business and a such everyone should watchful and cautious in in their dealings to take adequate precaution against anything that can lead to emergencies/disaster because when it happens, it does not exempt anyone.

The fire was successfully extinguished by the LASEMA Response Team in collaboration with its First Responders from RRS, the Lagos State Government and the Federal Fire Services.

Though no casualties were recorded, nor injuries were sustained in the inferno which consumed eight shops stored with food items, properties worth a fortune were destroyed by the fire.

Earlier, LASEMA Response Team recovered an articulated truck laden with a 40feet container involved in a lone accident at about 02:40.00am at Ojota inward Ketu, Lagos.

According to reports, on arrival at the incident site, it was discovered that an articulated truck laden with 40feet container got stuck in between the median while driving inward Ketu from Maryland.

Investigations conducted by the LASEMA Response Team revealed that the immediate cause of the lone accident was due to reckless driving.

No injuries were sustained nor fatalities recorded during the recovery in which the RRS and other responders participated.

However, no loss of lives, nor injuries were recorded in the incident where miscreants and other unforeseen circumstances made access and recovery difficult for the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene.

Breaking: Osun Monarch Peace Meeting Turns Bloody, As Oluwo Beats Other Monarch To Stupor

AgegePulse Magazine

editor February 14, 2020

The traditional rulers in Iwoland were on Friday thrown into confusion when a prominent monarch in the zone , Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi suddenly descended on another monarch , Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo, Agbowu of Agbaagbaa and allegedly beat him to stupour.

The unfortunate incident according to Oba Akinropo occurred at the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Akanbi allegedly attacked and punched Oba Akinropo.

But Oluwo Debunked the allegation, saying there was no issue at all.

CityMirrorNews correspondent who visited Asubiaro hospital where the wounded monarch is receiving treatment saw no fewer than eight monarchs in the hospital to sympathize with him.

According to a reliable source, the attack occured before the AIG and other monarchs from Iwoland when they were called to a meeting for settlement over land tussle in the area.

A source said the Oluwo has been asking the monarchs to stop selling lands because the lands in Iwoland belong to him and the monarchs resisted, a situation that prompted the AIG to summon meeting to forestall breakdown of laws and order.

The source said: “It was in the course of the meeting that Oluwo gave the Agbowu a punch on his face and this brought an end to the peace meeting.

“Oluwo was the first to get out of the meeting in annoyance, creating scene and shouting within the AIG’s office

“Me, Oluwo, Agbowu is calling me a mad man. Ordinary Baales want to be challenging me. I will show you my worth and there will be war in the entire Iwoland.

“I am the only Oba in Iwoland, others are Baales that I gave land, they now want to be challenging me. Can any Baale in Ifeland do that to Ooni”, he fumed.

Another monarch at the meeting, the source said, was heard commenting that Oluwo has gone beyond his boundary and would be dealt with and even vacate the stool.

As at the time of filling this report Oba Akinropo was still at the trauma centre for treatment.

While reacting, Oluwo while speaking with one of journalists, said there was no issue, saying the monarchs are just being sensational about it.

“We held a peace meeting and we are handling it. I don’t know why they are sensational about it. It was just a peace meeting and that was all”, he said.

Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu said that the development is to further prioritise safe motoring measures for crime detection on Lagos roads.

According to him, one of the major benefits of the initiative is the creation of a robust database for all articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, especially those that ply State roads.

“As you are all aware, it is quite difficult to manage or deal with any problem effectively if you can’t measure it or have verifiable data. The essence of the database is, therefore, to provide and share valuable information and data on an articulated vehicle with the law enforcement agencies, the Nigeria Police and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) for safety and security as well as crime investigation and detection purposes”, he stated.

Oladeinde disclosed that all new vehicles coming into the State through the Ports will be required to obtain the Temporary Vehicle Tag (TVT) to be issued by Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) as a means of identification for yet-to-be-fully registered, newly-acquired vehicles pending full registration.

IGP, Southwest Governors agree on Amotekun

AgegePulse Magazine

…‘Amotekun To Run As State-Led Effort, Not Regional Initiative’

…Lagos Govt Hosts Security Meeting On Community Policing

The Southwest Regional Security Operation code-named Operation Amotekun has finally been adopted by Governors of all states in the Southwest and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Southwest Governors’ Forum told the IGP Muhammed Adamu in Lagos on Thursday that, the development would spring up fresh efforts to secure local communities.

The Forum spoke through its chairman and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, at the Southwest Security Meeting on Community Policing convened at the instance of the IGP.

The meeting was held on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos State Government in Alausa.

At the end of the meeting, which held for about two hours behind closed doors, the IGP and representatives of each State okayed the framework of Southwest Regional Security Network (otherwise known as Operation Amotekun), but initiative will not be run as a regional security operations, as initially suggested. It will be state-led effort, the IGP said.

Also, the meeting ratified community policing model proposed by the IGP and the initiative would be complementing Operation Amotekun and conventional police operations in all local communities.

The host and Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the security gathering was part of extensive meetings with the police leadership on adopting new strategies and initiatives towards securing lives and property of people in the Southwest.

Lagos Government, Sanwo-Olu said, will continue to champion initiatives and frameworks that continue to provide support and logistics required for effective policing in the region.

Akeredolu said the meeting was of “great importance” to the people of Southwest, confirming that the Forum had a fruitful discussion with the IGP.

Speaking on the outcome, Akeredolu said: “The Governors of Southwest and the IGP have held a very fruitful discussion and it is clear now to all of us that, community policing, which the Nigeria Police is anchoring is one that will benefit all of us. We have chosen that we will embrace community in its entirety.

“In addition, we have spoken and we want everyone to know that, Amotekun was not conceived as a regional police, but a state-based security outfit. We have come out of this meeting happy and we have agreed on the resolution. We have shed lights on dark areas and we are on the same page with the police with respect to these issues.”

IGP Adamu substantiated Akeredolu’s claim, saying the participants at the meeting had fine-tuned Operation Amotekun and adopted it to be state-led initiative and not regional.

He said: “This is the second meeting we have held with the Governors of Southwest region concerning the creation of Operation Amotekun. The just concluded meeting was to discuss and fine-tune Amotekun. Out conclusion is what the chairman of Southwest Governors’ Forum has explained.

“Amotekun is not a regional security outfit. Every state has one form of security arrangement, whether it is vigilante or neighbourhood watch that are working security agencies in the states to fight crime. Amotekun is not different from these initiatives. We have agreed that community policing strategy be infused into the Amotekun structure, so that policing will be initiative of the community members.”

Adamu said the police would be part of the recruitment, training and deployment of personnel to be assigned for Amotekun operations, adding that the initiative would work in complementary with community policing model.

The IGP said policing must start with the public, urging members of the public to unite and form an alliance against criminals in their communities.

He said the police would support the residents’ effort to keep their communities safe, but added any decision to be taken must come from the public.

The IGP praised Lagos Government for adopting a community-led policing arrangement, saying Lagos remained an example where “a good structure” of community policing had been effective.
