Sometime after midnight on October 21, Elisha Sunday Ibanga answered a phone call from his older brother's number.

The person on the other end of the line -- a stranger -- broke the news that Ibanga's brother, Victor, had been shot dead at the Lekki toll gate, in Lagos, Nigeria, where he had been peacefully protesting against police brutality earlier that night.

"The person told me that the police took his body away," Ibanga, 24, told CNN.

An eyewitness to Victor Sunday Ibanga's death told CNN the 27-year-old entrepreneur was shot in the head during the protest.

CNN has obtained and geolocated a photograph of Victor's body lying in a pool of blood and wrapped in the white and green of the Nigerian standard -- one of the same flags gripped by fellow protesters earlier in the evening as they sang the country's national anthem. Ibanga confirmed the photograph is of his brother.

The Ibangas are one of several families yet to locate the bodies of their missing loved ones -- protestors at the toll gate -- who dozens of eyewitnesses say were shot at, first by members of the Nigerian army and then hours later by police. Eyewitnesses told CNN they saw the army remove a number of bodies from the scene.

What happened on October 20, and into the early hours of October 21, at the eight-lane Lekki toll gate -- a key piece of Lagos' road network -- has stunned the country.

The protesters who were present have told CNN it was a "massacre" with multiple people killed and dozens wounded. But local authorities have downplayed that account.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, admitted to CNN that footage showed uniformed soldiers firing on peaceful protesters but claimed only two demonstrators were killed. But, he then said there was "not a scratch of blood" at the toll gate when he visited. The governor said no families had approached authorities saying they were missing relatives.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the army denied any involvement, describing reports of the incident as "fake news," before backtracking and saying that soldiers were present but fired their weapons in the air and used blanks, not live rounds.

CNN's calls to the Nigerian army have not been returned. But on November 14, during a judicial inquiry into the shooting, army representative Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo said, "There's no way officers and men will kill their brothers and sisters. I repeat no way. We have those who constantly seek to drive a wedge between us and between the citizens of Nigeria..."

The army also said at the hearing that it was the governor who called soldiers to the scene because the police were overrun. The governor has denied this, saying he does not have the authority to call in the army. The army has continued to restate that they did not fire live rounds.

But an investigation by CNN into the disputed events has cast doubt on authorities' shifting and changing statements.

Evidence of bullet casings from the scene match those used by the Nigerian army when shooting live rounds, according to current and former Nigerian military officials. Verified video footage -- using timestamps and data from the video files -- shows soldiers who appear to be shooting in the direction of protesters. And accounts from eyewitnesses establish that after the army withdrew, a second round of shooting happened later in the evening.

Since Elisha Sunday Ibanga learned of his brother's death, he has been visiting hospitals in a desperate search for his remains.

"My mother, my sisters, all my family are in prayer, just to see if we can find out and know where my brother's dead body is," he said.

The bodies of other protesters are nowhere to be found.

Peace Okon, 24, hasn't seen her younger brother Wisdom, 18, since he went to the protest the night of the shooting.

"He just came back from work on that Tuesday, ate his food and went there," Okon told CNN.

She started worrying when he didn't arrive home that night. By the next morning, Okon was out searching for him. "I've gone to hospitals, I've gone to police stations, I've gone to everywhere. I can't find him," she said.

Her brother had only moved to Lagos a few weeks before the protest -- Okon had helped him find a job as a cleaner at a bank. She says he didn't know anyone at the protest and had never been to one before.

Okon said she wants the Nigerian authorities to tell her if her brother is alive and detained or dead.

The shootings at Lekki toll gate followed weeks of "#EndSARS" protests against police brutality that had burst onto the streets of cities across Nigeria.

For almost a fortnight, thousands of young Nigerians mostly under 30 -- a demographic that makes up 40% of the country's population -- protested, with calls for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a police unit widely and repeatedly accused of kidnapping, harassment and extortion.

Police had agreed to disband the controversial unit but protests continued. It would be the fourth time it was being disbanded.

There were peaceful marches, candlelight vigils, multi-faith prayer sessions and DJ performances that attracted backing and solidarity from celebrities, the Nigerian diaspora and supporters around the world. The movement quickly widened beyond police brutality to other grievances -- capturing the frustrations of a young population demanding an end to bad governance in the oil-rich country.

Lekki, a relatively affluent suburb of Lagos, and the toll gate became a focal point of the movement.

However, about 10 days into the protests, the demonstrations were hijacked by "thugs and sponsored hoodlums" who attacked protesters, causing deaths and injuries, according to Amnesty International Nigeria.

In response, on October 20, hours before the shooting, Governor Sanwo-Olu imposed a strict curfew starting at 4 p.m. following looting and vandalism in other parts of the state.

It was later moved to 9 p.m. to allow commuters to get home. The timeline for when the curfew was imposed has become a point of contention between the Governor and the military. The army said their soldiers were unaware of the change to the later time, according to the army spokesperson's testimony to the eight-person judicial panel on November 14.

For 24 hours, only essential service providers were to be allowed on the streets of the 20-million strong city.

Testimony from dozens of eyewitnesses and family members interviewed by CNN and a forensic examination of hours of video and dozens of photographs captured before, during and after the two shooting incidents show how a fledgling protest movement was all but extinguished by the very thing Nigerians were demonstrating against.

Less than three hours after the original curfew time came into effect, army trucks left the Bonny Camp barracks on Victoria Island and headed towards the toll gate plaza and the protesters, according to videos reviewed by CNN.

Two eyewitnesses told CNN they saw soldiers arriving in a Toyota Hilux pickup truck with "OP Awatse" written on it -- the name of a joint military task force that operates in Lagos State.

Videos examined by CNN show the army trucks approaching the protesters from both sides of the toll gate -- barricading them in.

DJ Switch, a local musician whose real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh, was streaming live on Instagram when it all happened and the shooting began.

The shooting started almost immediately, with no warning given. Panic ensued as protesters attempted to flee.

"There was a guy that was running, and he just... he fell, and we looked at him. He was shot in the back," DJ Switch, 29, told CNN, as she tried to talk during an interview while crying.

"Please explain to me how, in which part of the world, do you go to a protest with live bullets," she said.

From multiple videos, CNN has pieced together a timeline that shows that shooting by the army lasted from 6:43 p.m. until at least 8:24 p.m., according to video evidence.

The videos capturing some of those 101 minutes tell a story of terror and chaos. They show graphic injuries and people bleeding on the ground.

One eyewitness, Sarah, whose last name we're not publishing for her safety, told CNN that the soldiers shot in the air but also directly at protesters.

"They pointed their guns at us and they started shooting," she said. "They were shooting in the air, they were shooting at us, they were shooting everywhere."

Some chanted: "We are peaceful protesters" and "End Sars, we no go gree [pidgin for we will not agree, or give in]."

"They're shooting, they're shooting," another person screams in one of the videos. Cries of "Na lie, na lie [exclamations of disbelief in pidgin]" can also be heard.

In several of the videos, reviewed and verified by CNN, some of the protesters can be seen carrying bodies, the flashlights on their phones the only thing illuminating the darkness as the sound of ambulance sirens wail in the background. It is not known whether these were dead or injured protesters.

In another, there are several injured people, some on the ground bleeding while defiant protesters continued to wave Nigerian flags.

Injured people whom CNN has confirmed were present at the toll gate started arriving in local hospitals -- carried by civilians -- from 7:19 p.m. while the shooting was still ongoing, according to videos analyzed by CNN.

One of the protesters, Mathew, pictured, says he was injured when the army opened fire at Lekki toll gate. Using metadata, CNN geolocated the image to the protest location at 6:50 pm.

CNN has also seen and verified footage from one man who used his car as a makeshift ambulance and transported people to hospital.

Separately, Dr. Ayo Aranmolate, executive medical director at Grandville medical center, told CNN he and his colleagues received around 15 injured people that night with various gunshot wounds and cuts. None of the people they treated died, he added.

"We referred some for treatment to other hospitals," Dr. Aranmolate said. "One of the victims had to have his leg amputated."

The army has denied that anyone was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, and that they only shot into the air.

Speaking in front of the judicial panel, the army spokesman Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo continued to deny that anyone was shot.

Multiple eyewitnesses told CNN that ambulances were prevented from reaching the scene by the authorities.

A video filmed at 8:49 p.m., according to metadata, shows ambulance workers in a van at the scene saying they are unable to get through.

When contacted by CNN to share the findings of this investigation, a Lagos State government spokesman declined to comment. "Talking about that subject now will be sub-judicial since the matter is already before a panel of inquiry. Until the panel concludes its investigation, the subject will not be open to any discussion or comment by any State official," the spokesperson said.

DJ Switch said she wanted people to see what was happening which is why she started broadcasting.

"I didn't want anybody to come on and twist the story. I wanted people to see. So, I just went live."

At one point during the broadcast, there were attempts to resuscitate a man in red clothing who had passed out.

Later, DJ Switch can be seen helping to extract a bullet lodged in another man's thigh as he screams in agony. Someone in the crowd says, "you will live, you will not die."

As the live broadcast ends, people are still trying to apply CPR on the man in red, while DJ Switch can be heard saying, "this guy is dying."

DJ Switch told CNN that protesters lifted bodies with bullet wounds and put them at the soldiers' feet.

"I said, why are you killing us? Why are you doing this," she said. "He expressly told me: 'I am acting on orders from above.'"

CNN has examined bullet casings found at the scene and confirmed with current and former Nigerian military sources that the bullet casings match those used by the army. Two ballistics experts have also confirmed with CNN that the shape of the bullet casings indicate they used live rounds, which contradicts the army's claim they fired blanks.

CNN has verified that bullets fired at Lekki toll gate are from live ammunition. This one was manufactured in Serbia in 2005, and is currently in use by the Nigerian army.

CNN has verified that bullets fired at Lekki toll gate are from live ammunition. This one was manufactured in Serbia in 2005, and is currently in use by the Nigerian army.

And working with the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, CNN has established that several of the bullets from the Lekki toll gate originated from Serbia. Export documents CNN has seen show that Nigeria purchased weaponry from Serbia almost every year between 2005 and 2016.

After the army withdrew from the scene, members of the police, including the SARS police unit -- disbanded by authorities on 11 October -- moved in, according to multiple eyewitnesses CNN spoke with.

In a video obtained by CNN and geolocated to Lekki toll gate at 2:36 a.m., one eyewitness, Legend, whose second name we're not publishing for his safety, can be seen with the Nigerian flag around his head saying, "...my hand is broken, my leg is broken, and police are still shooting at us."

View this interactive content on CNN.com

"They are shooting anything that moves outside...Stay safe through the night. And if I don't make it through the night let it be known that I died fighting for our freedom, for what we believe in."

Legend, who survived, told CNN his father was a police officer and that he recognized the SARS uniform. About 200 protesters remained at the toll gate when witnesses say police and SARS arrived, he added.

"I couldn't count how many dead because I was running for my life," Legend said. "If I stood my ground five more seconds, I would be dead."

While CNN has not been able to independently verify that SARS members were present, multiple eyewitnesses said they saw police officers, accompanied by officers from the unit, at the scene after the army left.

A Lagos State police spokesman declined to comment because of the ongoing panel investigation. But police have denied any use of force against protesters on Twitter, saying, "....our police officers never resorted to use of unlawful force or shooting at the protesters."

The widespread looting and damage that occurred across Lagos in the aftermath of the Lekki toll gate shooting has led to the authorities clamping down on people who took part in the protests.

Workers clean up the Lekki toll gate on October 24.

Many feel they are being scapegoated for taking part in peaceful protests -- wrongly blamed for the looting -- and fear has descended on the movement since the shooting.

Moe Odele, a prominent lawyer who was giving legal advice to demonstrators arrested during the protests, says she was recently prevented from leaving the country after her passport was seized. Odele told CNN that her passport has since been returned.

The country's central bank has obtained a 90-day court order freezing the accounts of those who took part in the demonstrations, according to media reports, while a journalist who covered the protests was arrested and detained for five days before being freed on bail.

Several eyewitnesses have fled the country, while others are living in safe houses. Some told CNN they were offered money to recant their initial testimonies.

CNN has seen some of the messages received, though it is unclear who is sending them.

"We're hiding because our lives are in danger," an eyewitness named Sarah told CNN. "We can't go out, our jobs are on hold right now, and it's really sad because we did nothing wrong."

"All we did was ask for change."

In a bid to solidify the security architecture of Lagos State, the Lagos State Police command has relaunched its Anti Crime Strategies to curb crimes and criminality across the state.

The command today, Sunday 15th November, 2020, at about 7am, carried out raids simultaneously on identified black spots, reasonably believed to be harbouring criminals and hoodlums, across the fourteen (14) Area Commamds in Lagos State.

In the swift operations, police operatives of the command arrested seven hundred and twenty (720) suspects with incriminating items including locally-made guns and life cartridges, charms, weed suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be cocaine and some items suspected to have been looted from various shopping outlets within the state during the recent Endsars violence.

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC: LAGOS MOBILE COURT FORFEITS 31 VEHICLES TO GOVERNMENT FOR VIOLATIONS

... Orders 43 Motorists To Pay Fine

AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State Mobile Court had forfeited 31vehicles to the government for contravening the State Traffic Law by driving against the traffic on a one-way road in Lagos.

The Court made the pronouncement after the 31 defendants (drivers) pleaded 'Guilty' to the 'One-way' traffic offense charged against them.

According to the Mobile Court, "These arraigned 31 drivers were charged for driving in the direction prohibited by Law (One-way) punishable under Part (III) item 27 of the 'Lagos State Transport Sector Reformed Law of 2018 and have been penalized accordingly”.

However, 43 other drivers arraigned for plying the BRT corridors and causing road obstructions were ordered to pay fines to the government in accordance with the Law and severity of their offense.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi confirmed that out of 160 arraigned traffic offenders including those apprehended for driving against traffic (One-way) only 74 had so far appeared before the court.

While urging remaining 86 others who are yet to appear before the court to do so immediately, the Chairman said the Agency acted in response to series of complaints from members of the public particularly motorists that activities of one-way drivers were causing serious traffic gridlock on daily basis since the #EndSARS protest across the State.

According to Egbeyemi "It is painful that with a high level of enlightenment campaigns and several warnings by the government, motorists including private car owners are still driving against traffic knowing fully well that the penalty for such offense is outright forfeiture of the said vehicle to the government".

America Decides: Why Joe Biden Will Win US Election By Jumu’ah Abiodun | AgegePulse Magazine

As the whole world is looking forward to the much-awaited United States election slated for Tuesday, November 3, 2020, there are lots of political intrigues to the poll. This is the 59th quadrennial presidential election of the country.

Major issues that shape the election include Climate Change, COVID-19 pandemic, the death of George Floyd which gave birth to the Black Lives Matter protests across the world and the death of other African-Americans, pushing for the repeal of Obama Care, Economy, Faceoff with China among other issues.

COVID-19:

Presently in the United States, over 9 million cases were confirmed and 231, 000 deaths recorded. It was reported that President Trump ignored experts advice and undermined the pandemic.

George Floyd's Death:

The Majority of Americans ranging from whites and black believe the President didn't handle the killings of Black Americans with care.

Obama Care:

President Trump got it wrong when he started pushing for the repeal of Obama Care which millions of Americans are benefiting from.

Climate Change:

President Trump doesn't seem to show enough concern about Climate Change.

It's worth noting that the US election is not about the total number of votes cast or states won but satisfying the 270 or above Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.

If no candidate receives the minimum 270 electoral votes needed to win the election, the United States House of Representatives will select the president from the three candidates who received the most electoral votes, and the United States Senate will select the vice president from the candidates who received the two highest totals. The election will occur simultaneously alongside elections for the House of Representatives, Senate, and various state and local-level elections.

In 2016, President Trump won the Electoral College with 304 votes compared to 227 votes for former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Though, Clinton won by 65,853,625 (48.0%) to Trump’s 62,985,106 (45.9%) of popular votes.

With my holistic view of how the campaigns across the country have taken shape, you would agree with me that typical Americans prefer Republican candidate, President Donald Trump while the Latino, African-American, Indian-American, and the Asian-American voters queue behind the former Vice President and Democratic candidate, Joe Biden.

While doing my state by state analysis that might give Joe Biden the victory prompted my explanation in assessing the states in alphabetical order.

The Republican party is expected to win in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi,  Missouri, Montana  Nebraska, (Statewide), North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming

The Democratic party is expected to win convincingly in  Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.

California is the home state of Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. So, Democrats are expected to win with about 60-65% while Republican struggle with 30-32% votes.

Delaware, the home state of Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden. The democratic party is expected to garner about 55-60% while Republican struggle 35-40% votes

Florida is the home state of President Trump, the state and Iowa are expected to be a tight race for both major political parties. Democratic  Party also is expected to win with a slim margin of 2-5% above Republican in Michigan.

In Indiana, the Republican Vice-President candidate, Mike Pence state, his party is expected to win with about 55-60% to Democratic 30-35% votes.

In Minnesota, the election in the state will be determined by the aftermath of George Floyd’s death which gave birth to the Black Lives Matter movement, Democratic party expected to garner 46-52% votes.

For record purposes no Republican has won the White House in nearly a century without winning Florida, and for Trump to win he needs the Sunshine State and its 29 electoral votes too.

In light of my above analysis, President Joe Biden is expected to win the Tuesday election convincingly.

If Biden wins the election, his victory then becomes historical. He would become the oldest person to serve as president of the United States at 78-year-old on the day of his inauguration and the first candidate to defeat an incumbent president in 28 years since Democrat Bill Clinton defeated Republican George Walker Bush in 1992.

His running mate, Kamala Harris would also become the first woman to serve as vice-president of the United States.

It's worthy of noting that this is the first election in the history of the United States in which both major parties candidates are over 70 years of age.

...Commends Youths’ Peaceful #ENDSARS Protests

...Lauds Gov. Sanwo-Olu on his commitment to deliver the Agege Pen Cinema Flyover Bridge

A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Taofeek Adaranijo, has applauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the completion of projects inherited from his predecessor, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Adaranijo, who represented Agege Federal Constituency in the 8th National Assembly, gave the commendation in an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.

According to him, Sanwo-Olu, in the last 500 days of his administration, has not let the people down with his infrastructural development, response to COVID-19 pandemic and engagement of people.

“Sanwo-Olu has been performing excellently well and there have been a lot of improvements in the provision of the dividends of democracy to the people.

“He met a lot of projects yet to be completed by the last administration and he has focused on the completing them.

“Everyone can see these all over the state; this is commendable.

“I know, immediately those projects are completed, the governor will embark on new projects,’’ Adaranijo, a former Orile-Agege Council boss said.

He said that the governor has continued to make life easy and more abundant for residents of the state in terms of infrastructural development.

Adaranijo, who commended Sanwo-Olu’s response to COVID-19 pandemic and the #ENDSARS protesters, added that his commitment to deliver the Agege Pen Cinema Flyover Bridge was commendable.

According to him, the bridge will open up Agege and enable other developments to spring up in the area when completed.

The former lawmaker said that the state government should continue on his commitment to repairing roads and build more schools in Agege and its environs.

According to him, efforts are being made to build more classrooms in some schools, provide boreholes, street lights, electricity transformers and massive empowerment for youths and women when he represented the federal constituency.

On #ENDSARS protests, Adaranijo commended the youths’ peaceful conduct and both the state and federal government for handling the protest with maturity.

He said that, having articulated their demands that elicited responses and actions from the government on police brutality, the youth should ease the tension and end the protest.

On the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Adaranijo urged the federal government to expedite actions on the project, saying the condition of the road has become an eye sore.

He suggested that since the road is beneficial to Lagos and Ogun residents, government of both states should put machineries in motion to rehabilitate the road.

End Corruption, Dissolve PEF Like #EndSARS, Jumu'ah Urges Nigerian Govt | AgegePulse Magazine

A Dedicated fighter for Government Accountability & Justice and Human Rights Journalist, Jumu'ah Abiodun, has told the Nigerian Government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure the country for peace to reign.

The activist in a statement made available to journalists noted that the only way for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria is for the government to take it as a matter of urgency to revisit the 2014 Nigerian National CONFAB report and restructure the country.

Jumu'ah stated further that the ongoing protest is far beyond on police brutality occasioned by the #EndSARS protesters but for the resistance of oppression and corruption by the Nigerian ruling class who sees nothing wrong in stealing public funds.

"The youths are frustrated, the government must be careful with this protest not to end in "#RevolutionNow". This is beyond #EndSARS, some of the youths are now clamouring for an end to corruption."

"The protest continue, the youths are getting stronger everyday, N30m has been raised within few days by supporters, driving ambulance buses, doctors & nurses and lawyers on standby to treat injured and releasing arrested protesters"

"The protesters are now walking miles with placards, deploying websites and bots, as well as #EndSARS Wikipedia"

"I don't know why our leaders are not ashamed of themselves? Minimum wage is N30, 000 and a bag of rice is over N30,000, petroleum price now at N162 per litre, food price skyrocketed by 70 per cent. Nothing good is working for the citizens as corruption take center stage, ASUU still on since over eight months"

"Seriously, this present leaders has failed Nigeria, barracks looks like dumpsites, Police buys uniforms, buttons, no leave, no insurance and political office holders go home with millions of naira every month and you don't want them to receive bribe? you are a joker."

"While we talking about corruption in Nigeria, President Buhari then nominated his aide who is a card-carrying member of a political party to be Commissioner in the nation's election umpire."

Recall, Jumu'ah in his Nigeria at 60 message to Nigerians home and in Diaspora advised the Buhari administration to repeal Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to curb corruption. "If we really want to be one, my advice will be good for the peace of the country, there's an urgent need for any government who want peace and want to end corruption to stop 'PEF' with immediate effect because those in the West don't buy 'Yam, Onions and Pepper' same price as they sell in the North, so why paying for PEF. PEF is just a fraudulent policy with which public office holders are using to siphon public funds," Jumu'ah noted.

He explained further that: "Another loophole left open for the stealing of funds is the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In the first place, for whatever reason NDDC might have been created, it's clearly unnecessary. Construction or rehabilitation of Roads in the region, ministry of Works should do that. Cleaning of the Ogoni oil spill, the ministry of Environment fits in."

The activist faulted IGP Mohammadu Adamu for pronouncing Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWAT) so quick, "pronouncing SWAT to replace the dreaded SARS within four days of the dissolution of SARS, when the whole world still protesting against injustice, police brutality in Nigeria is a wrong shot by the IGP and the Presidential Panel on Police Reform", Jumu'ah stated.

"What we need is total police reform, where citizens can record police officers activities on the road without no fear or violence, then we can have a decent policing environment. Provision of genuine life insurance for the police as well as good salaries at the same par with political office holders."

The Human Rights Journalist chides Presidency for blaming previous administrations for their lapses, "what we voted for is the government who promised to do better than previous administrations not to blame previous governments."

"For record purposes, PDP did not establish SARS as claimed by some quarters, Simeon Danladi Midenda (Rtd) formed SARS when late Col. Ezra Rindam of the Nigerian Army was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos in September 1992."

The activist also commended Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who is representing Owan Federal Constituency of Edo on his contribution towards impending Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike for conceding no government in Nigeria has been able to solve one single problem since Independence in 1960.

Jumu'ah quoted the lawmaker: "We should be embarrassed, the Nigeria ruling class all wearing big "Agbada", riding air conditioning cars and building mansions in Asokoro and other places. We should be embarrassed that as a nation we have not made progress precisely in any sector."

"Part of the problem is what is happening with ASUU, we are talking of out of school children and your governor goes out with twenty (20) cars, they are spending money to hire tugs but they cannot build schools for their children talk less of feeding the children once a day. Let's take ourselves more seriously, let's take our country more seriously, and do the right thing at the right time to save the future."

#EndSARS Protest: Egbeyemi Led Lagos Taskforce Team's A Role Model, Says LASPOTECSU President

AgegePulse Magazine

The students union president of Lagos State Polytechnic said the revolution that led to the disband of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) should not be used to drag in the functional Lagos taskforce team under the discipline leadership of CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi.

While addressing the press, Comr. Olamide Emmanuel made it known that the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Lagos Taskforce) has proven to be uncompromising in several occasions and are more active than the defunct SARS, with the chairman of the Lagos Taskforce well known for his resilience in fighting crimes and keeping the state properly structured for road users, as well as helping to keep cleanliness in every market in the state.

Lagos Taskforce was described by the president as an example of how Nigerian security outfit can function better. In his words, "though, there will be some few who will speak odd of Lagos taskforce but the students leaders in Lagos state can testify to the gallant approach of Lagos Taskforce team in combating road and market crimes. Even at that, the door of the chairman of the team has never been closed for Nigerian students. The chairman of the taskforce has proven to be a father to Nigerian students and have continuously open his door for us whenever our students or student leaders have any issue with his men."

Furthermore, the erstwhile chairman of NANS, Comr. Moses Samson Adewale said "CSP Egbeyemi is a worthy disciplinarian that have managed his team away from corrupt practices and Lagos Taskforce should not be dragged into the #EndSARS protest and public cry. The only set of people that will complain about Lagos Taskforce are indiscipline commercial bus drivers and conductors as they are always the ones that frequently go against the road laws in the state".

In the same vein, another Nigerian Student, System Joseph Philip has described the CPS Egbeyemi led team a functional, well behave agency.

According to him, "The Lagos State Taskforce has helped Lagosian in divers form. The disparity between them and the police or neighborhood is very clear, they are well equipped and can face any turbulence that want to cause havoc's to the people and the society".

The general superintendent of the Lagos State task force is a very vast and intelligent person that make sure everything work in a good modus vivendi and at the same time want to listen to others opinion.

Recall, during the COVID-19 pandemic, some group of gangsters called million Boys started some deviant attitude by entering different communities to extort people of their valuables. The DSP Olatunji Disu, the head of Rapid Response Sqaud(RRS) gave Egbeyemi a call and they swung into action to curtail their illegal activities.

This wonders of CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi sobriquet him  "White Lion", due to his clean approach to fighting corruption and instilling discipline to road commuters

LASG reaffirms November completion, inauguration of Pen Cinema flyover bridge | AgegePulse Magazine

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced that it was working round the clock to meet up with the promised completion and inauguration of the Pen Cinema flyover bridge in November.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye made the pledge at a stakeholders meeting to flag-off the rehabilitation of Iwaya Road in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Adeyoye said the government usually chose the best experienced contractors to execute its projects because of the determination and deliberate policies for quality infrastructure delivery.

“We cannot afford to take bond money and then use it anyhow. It is not only that it is taxpayers money, it is bond money but it is ultimately tax payers money because you also pay tax so that we can refund that loan.

“So we were deliberate to say these things must be done well, people must be able to see what we have used it for (N100 Billion bond).

“That is why we have gone back to Pen Cinema to try to finish that bridge project and by the grace of God, that bridge would be commissioned by end of next month. We are working assiduously towards it and we will get there,” she said.

She appealed to residents of Iwaya to take ownership of the proposed construction and report any irregularities noticed to her office

She appealed to residents to call her lines anytime and day of the week to report irregularities on site.

“If a contractor is not doing what is not right, please don’t hesitate to flag us. Taking ownership is key,” she said.

She added that the Sanwo-Olu’s government was constructing roads to meet the needs of different communities across the state, adding that, no construction was done without consulting the people on what they need.

She explaines that the administration had adopted strategies to ensure successful completion of durable roads across the state, adding that, her ministry was an enabler for all the other aspects of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES agenda.

She listed various problematic roads including Mile 12 Road which engineering solutions and strategies helped to complete and deliver quality durable constructions to residents.

She reeled out other achievements of the government since it came on board in 2019 and appealed for the support of residents and other Iwaya stakeholders during the proposed construction.

Mr Olujimi Hotonu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure said the meeting was important to address all concerns of stakeholders before take-off of the project.

Olujimi represented by an engineer, Mr Rotimi Thomas said rehabilitation of Iwaya road “will terminate sufferings” on the axis while boosting economic and social activities because of the strategic location of the road which had degenerated.

He explained that a credible process was in place with collaborating sister agencies towards the relocation of services as well as Right of Way recovery for services and structures on the project path.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development represented by Mr Saheed Animashaun, a town planner stressed the need to seek the consent of residents on ‘Right of Way’ (RoW) recovery of the project.

“There is no way that some structures will not be removed but they will serve affected houses with notices. It is not immediately you are served that the structure will be removed,”he said.

He explained the process of evaluation and compensation as well as a seven days final notice before removal of structure on the RoW of the project

Presenting a brief the project, Mr Lateef Somide, the project supervisor said the strategic road starts from Onike and terminates at Makoko and was an access route to both the Third Mainland Bridge and UNILAG.

He said that the 1.4kms road awarded to Eastline Development Ltd, would have drains with covered slabs on both sides of the road to serve as walkways to residents.

“There will be relocation of services and it will be aligned with the road.

“And there will be longitudinal and transverse side ducts to prevent future cutting of the road to lay cables,”he said.

He explained that the area had high water table hence, the choice of interlocking stones as final layer to tackle previous problems of quick road degeneration.

He listed other accessories to be included on the road including a 24 hour lighting system.

In his remarks, chairman, Yaba LCDA, Mr Kayode Omiyale represented by Mr Lukam Thompson thanked the government for finally responding to the almost one year call; to fix the dilapidated road which had become an alternative route from gridlock.

Omiyale said that the road through Adekunle to Makoko was an easy link to the University of Lagos.

He thanked government for choice of construction materials meant to curb flooding of the road while calling for rehabilitation of other roads.

He also commended ongoing dredging of a canal on the axis which he noted would make the proposed construction the best durable choice to combat flooding.

He appealed that the only two inner roads in the area which were in deplorable conditions should be made motorable.

Contractors on the project promised to adopt construction methods that would bring minimum discomfort to the area as well as employment of some residents for site works.

Also residents on the axis took turns to thank the government for the project and raise concerns on the proposed construction.

Sanwo-Olu Moves To Get Justice For Victims Of SARS Brutality | AgegePulse Magazine

•Governor marches with protesters in Alausa, announces plan to compensate victims

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has activated the process of getting justice for the victims of brutality and extra-judicial actions allegedly committed the dissolved  Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, said the State Government will be setting up a panel of enquiry that will comprise youth leaders appointed by EndSARS protesters, members of the public, Government officials and security agencies to look into the allegations of human rights abuses leveled against SARS operatives in Lagos.

The objective of the panel, the Governor said, is to bring indicted officers to book and get justice for victims of SARS operations.

Besides, Sanwo-Olu also set up a Trust Fund to compensate the families of the victims of police brutality in the State. The process of managing and disbursing the funds will be completely supervised by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) appointed by members of the public, the Governor said.

Sanwo-Olu was addressing youths protesting against SARS’ excesses at the State House in Alausa. The protesters were led by Nollywood actors, musicians and comedians, including Debo Adebayo, popularly known as MC Macaroni, and Oluwatoyin Bayegun, also known as Woli Arole.

It was the second time in two days Sanwo-Olu would be meeting face-to-face with youths leading EndSARS protests. Yesterday, the Governor was at the Lekki Toll Plaza where protesters camped and blocked the expressway.

Sanwo-Olu said he identified with the protesters in their campaign against police brutality. He, however, pleaded with the aggrieved youths not to undermine the legitimacy of their grievances by being violent and destructive.

The protesters at Alausa handed a communique to the Governor, which detailed their five-point demand.

Sanwo-Olu said the  Government will be addressing three of the protesters’ demands that are within the purview of the State and promised to engage the President and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the remaining demands.

The Governor said he would continue to engage the Federal Government to initiate reforms that will bring about the police force that will protect and respect the rights of the citizens.

He said: “I understand a lot of youths have been battered and maimed by the people who are supposed to protect you. I understand you all are feeling the pain of brutality, which is why you have been taking to streets to express your disappointment. Your voice has been heard loudly and actions have been taken from the highest office in the land to address your grievances. It is time to for us to move forward and engage further on your demand.

“There is a five-point demand which you have submitted to us today. You demanded for the release of all protesters arrested on Monday. All of them have been released unconditionally. You demanded we set up a meeting that will lead to the process of getting justice and compensation for the victims of SARS brutality. I have instructed the Ministry of Youth and Social Development to set up a panel of enquiry ASAP that will get justice for the victims.

“We request that any citizen who has had a fatal encounter with SARS in Lagos to come forward and bring their cases to the panel. We will get justice for them. I have also set up a trust fund for the compensation of all victims of SARS brutality. For those who have died, we will be reaching out to their families. We request you (the protesters) appoint your representatives into the panel and the Trust Fund for transparency.”

The Governor said the fourth and fifth points in the protesters’ demands, which border on police reforms and improved remuneration for police officers were not in the purview of the State. He, however, promised to personally deliver the message to President Buhari and the IGP.

Sanwo-Olu expressed concern over the violence that marred the EndSARS protest in Surulere on Monday when  a civilian and a police officer died. He said the State Government was investigating the matter, but pleaded with the protesters not to take the law into their own hands.

Sanwo-Olu told the demonstrators that he would be leaving the protest ground for Abuja to meet with President Buhari and the IGP as he had promised.

He said: “As I did promise you yesterday that I will be meeting with Mr. President today to physically present your demands to him. From this protest ground, I will be leaving for Abuja to meet with President Buhari and IGP. I will deliver your message and demands.”

Sanwo-Olu carried a placard and marched with the protesters.
