COWLSO KICKS OFF 2017 NATIONAL WOMEN'S CONFERENCE IN STYLE

...As dignitaries enjoin women on nation building, creativity

The virtues and relevance of women in nation building were unequivocally lauded by Nigeria's top dignitaries at the opening ceremony of the National Women's Conference, organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

In turns five Nigerian governors, including Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and wife of the Lagos State governor, Bolanle Ambode and the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osibanjo on Tuesday said for the nation to move forward women are key agents in driving the nation building agenda

The other Governors were Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson; Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel and the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking at the colourful gathering, Gov. Ambode said women were constantly creative; making something out of nothing.

Creativity has become very essential to succeed in todays world because we face new challenges everyday  at home and at work. As the woman creates and transforms, she positively impacts the family, the workplace and the nation.

With the female population in our country today, it is clear that our women have the capacity to positively affect the Nigerian economy and are already doing so. What is required is a deliberate and articulated policy to support female entrepreneurs and MSMEs. And from my experience, female entrepreneurs are outstanding business people who are very creative and hardworking. If you want a job done properly and delivered on time, give it to a woman, he said.

The governor emphasised that his administration remained committed to supporting female entrepreneurs, disclosing that through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, many female run Medium and Small Scale businesses had been funded, adding that as at September 2017, 2,613 female entrepreneurs had received a cumulative sum of N2.1 billion, which he said represented 42% of the total loans disbursed but that governments target was to ensure that at least 60% of the loans were given to women.

Moreover, Ambode encouraged more women to approach the Employment Trust Fund and also take advantage of the many initiatives from the Ministries of Wealth Creation and Women and Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, saying that supporting women businesses should no longer be seen as a social support or empowerment but as a necessary step to revive and improve the economy.

On his part, Gov. Emmanuel said women represent love, stressing that celebrating women should be a habit and not at an event as their rights were God-given, adding with love, women could actually create and transform the nation.

Edo Governor, Obaseki said his administration would continue to support the course of women in the area of entrepreneurship development.
Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose emphasized that life without women would be one full of crises, saying that if women were put at the helms of affairs of the nation, they would turn things around.

We must encourage women, even in politics; women should not be second fiddle. When you conduct Local Government election, they should make it to be that when a woman scores 40 percent of the vote, they should be declared winner, he said.

In her welcome address, wife of the Governor of Lagos State and Chairman, Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO, Mrs Bolanle Ambode said the theme of the conference, "She Creates, She Transforms," and with a theme thrust of "Creativity and Skill Acquisition," was expected to focus on ingenuity of the Nigerian women in the pursuit of innovative and practical solution aimed at achieving sustainable development within her immediate sphere and community at large.

"Women are uniquely created, endowed with skills and blessed with creativity. We are helpmates, we care for the family. We impact our immediate environment positively. The woman out of very little creates. We transform the little created to something bigger and better. Our transformation efforts extend to all facets of human engagement."

She listed some of the topics to be examined to include "Building a better World," "Women in Agriculture," "Women Empowerment-A Pathway to Development," and "Financing Option for Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises."

Mrs Ambode said women must rise and have zero tolerance for the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation, saying that the campaign must start from the homes, churches, mosques, offices, among others.

According to her, female gender mutilation is evil, it is evil, it is anti-social and unjustifiable. In fact, it is a crime against women. We must devote time for enlightenment and awareness, especially among uneducated mothers. We must stand together against it until the practice is totally eradicated in our country and the world."

Mrs Ambode said women must never fall to the temptation of pursuing economic empowerment at the expense of taking good care and paying attention to their children, warning that children, who did not enjoy good parental care, easily grow to potentially dangerous youths, who becomes nightmares for the society.

"We must desist from and discourage child-labour, Child Abuse and fight child-trafficking with all our strength. We owe it a duty to give good parenting to our children and indeed all other children put in our care. We must give them hope and allow them see the positive side of life as a way of bringing back good morals and societal stability," she said.

Declaring the conference open, Mrs Osinbajo challenged women to reflect on the past and to know where they were coming from and continue to create and transform the nation in all spheres of life.

She listed several women who had achieved greatness in the past, such as Funmilola Ransome-Kuti and challenged women to emulate their virtues.

She also charged women to speak out against rape and abuse; speak for the needy and speak in defence for the unity of Nigeria.

Major highlights of the opening ceremony was the launch of the COWLSO anthem- We are one, and the presentation of the inspirational woman of the year award to Engr. (Mrs.) Sandra Aguebor (MFR), aka Lady Mechanic.

NIGERIA A NATION WITH PLENTY OF HOPE

AgegePulse

Nigeria marked its 57th independence anniversary recently. A casual glance at  the nation’s 57 years journey shows both betrayal of expectations of greatness and the irony of the nation. Despite the abundance of human and material resources, Nigeria remains an undeveloped country with clearly more than half of its population living below poverty line. It is also plagued by myriads of problems which continue to undermine its potentials.

Against this background, this essay examines the major problems embattling the nation at 57 whilst proffering lasting and workable solutions to those problems. This paper posits that the problems of the nation are multifaceted and any solution must be holistic and durable for it to yield maximum benefit. It is argued that hopes of development and greatness are not lost provided the nation steers its ship back on the right track. Highlight below is the problems and solution to move the country forward to a greater level.

PROBLEMS
High Chief  Owolabi Salis said, ‘it is only the full understanding of the root causes of the problem we face today as a nation that will afford us the chances of discerning what solutions are possible, which can work and which cannot’. The problems besetting Nigeria today are many but the most critical ones are highlighted below.

The basic problem crippling the progress of the nation is failure of leadership (Achebe: 1984) Related to this is the problem of bad followership. Another core problem facing the nation is insecurity – insecurity of lives and property. Disunity also hinders Nigeria’s progress. There is also no doubt whatsoever that corruption is a major impediment to the nation’s success.

Other problems include poverty, unemployment, criminality, ethnic distrust, politicised judiciary, electoral fraud, religious tension, lack of basic amenities of life, epileptic power supply, poor infrastructure, pathetic education system, political crisis, commercialisation of public or government office, resource allocation, failed institutions (political, educational, economic etc), environmental degradation, spread of drastic disease, chronic frustration of citizens, collapse of national ideals and social values, a culture of impunity, widespread celebration of mediocrity, indiscipline and irresponsibility.

SOLUTIONS
The first solution is social transformation and value reorientation. We must work towards establishing a society where people are judged not by their family background, ethnic or religious affiliation, but by merit and character and a society where people imbibe ideals of fairness, justice and honesty.

Secondly, we must ensure enthronement of Good leadership. According to High Chief Barrister Owolabi Salis “There is urgent need for a new generation of leaders that would clear the cobwebs of decadence and political scavengers. This new generation of leaders must take our dear country to its manifest destiny”.

Also, government must ensure provision of basic amenities of life such as food, clothing, water, road, power, education and employment. It must also ensure improvement in the standard of living.
Other recommendations include an independent and honest press, independent judiciary, strict enforcement of laws, accountability in public office, and policies implementation. Finally, we must uproot the tree of disunity and sow the seeds of unity.

CONCLUSION
At 57th Nigeria is far from its destiny. There is an overwhelming disparity between expectation and reality. Rectifying the anomalies is a joint task incumbent on all stakeholders not just the government. Therefore, all hands must be on deck!

Long life the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ambode, Udom, Fayose, Osinbajo’s wife extol virtues of women in nation building

…We’ve Empowered 2,613 Female Entrepreneurs With N2.1bn, Says Lagos Gov

…Speak Out Against Genital Mutilation, Child Abuse, Ambode’s Wife Urges Women

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his counterparts from Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel; Edo, Godwin Obaseki; Bayelsa; Seriaki Dickson and Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday commended the sterling contributions of women to the society, stating that their role in nation building cannot be overemphasized.

The Governors, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 17th National Women Conference, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, with the theme: ‘She Creates, She Transforms’, took turns to celebrate the doggedness, dexterity and creativity of women and their notable contributions towards building a better society.

In his goodwill message, Governor Ambode saluted the resilience of women in their different spheres, noting that women are naturally gifted with skills and talents that make positive difference and impact on their generation.

“Our women are constantly creative; making something out of nothing. Creativity has become very essential to succeed in today’s world because we face new challenges everyday – at home and at work. As the woman creates and transforms, she positively impacts the family, the workplace and the nation.

“With the female population in our country today, it is clear that our women have the capacity to positively affect the Nigerian economy and are already doing so.

What is required is a deliberate and articulated policy to support female entrepreneurs and MSMEs. And from my experience, female entrepreneurs are outstanding business people who are very creative and hardworking. If you want a job done properly and delivered on time, give it to a woman,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the Conference, aside celebrating the resilient and dynamic nature of women under diverse situations, would go a long way to unleash the creative and transformative energies of more women.

Governor Ambode while restating his administration’s commitment to supporting female entrepreneurs, disclosed that as at September 2017, at least 2,613 female entrepreneurs who run Medium and Small Scale businesses have been funded through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund to the tune of N2.1bn, assuring that more would be given before the end of the year.

The Governor also congratulated the first female mechanic, Sandra Aguebor, who was presented with the Inspirational Woman of the year Award, saying that she had dared to succeed in a career many see as a sole reserve for men.

On his part, Governor Emmanuel, who was Guest of Honour commended COWLSO Chairman and Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode for sustaining and improving the COWLSO conference which started 17 years ago, saying that there was need for women as liberator of the world to be appreciated by every man for their contributions to development at all times.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s conference, Emmanuel charged women to live their lives by creating and transforming people and things around them without minding the shortcomings, adding that it was important for them to keep hope alive.

Also, Governor Dickson of Bayelsa State said the role of women in transforming life could not be under estimated, saying that it was imperative for women to always be appreciated and celebrated.

Dickson and his counterpart in Edo State, Mr. Obaseki both commended Lagos State for the initiative, saying that they would replicate same in their states for the benefit of women.

On his part, Governor Fayose said life without women would be full of crises, saying that it was important for women to be given opportunity to be in the drivers’ seat in the country.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Ambode particularly charged women to speak up against the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation, saying that the campaign must start from the home front, churches, mosques, offices and the communities.

"Female genital mutilation is evil, it is wicked, it is anti-social and unjustifiable. Infact, it is a crime against women. We must devote time for enlightenment and awareness especially among uneducated mothers. We must stand together against it, until the practice is totally eradicated in our country and the world".

She also urged woman to resist the temptation of pursuing economic empowerment at the expense of taking good care and paying attention to their children, stressing that children who do not enjoy parental care, easily grow to become potentially dangerous youths and threatening the peace of the society.

"The rising trend of leaving the girl-child entirely in the care of housemaids, neighbours or strangers in pursuit of income or for flimsy reasons, should be discouraged.

"We must desist from and discourage child-labour, child-abuse and fight child trafficking with all our strength. We owe it a duty to give good parenting to our children and indeed all other children put in our care. We must give them hope and allow them see the positive side of life, as a way of bringing back good morals and societal stability," Mrs Ambode said.

In her keynote address, the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo urged women to work hard to transform their children and wards into greatness and create a safe and secured society by inculcating the right virtues in their children.

She particularly urged the womenfolk to draw inspiration from women who had performed creditably well in their chosen profession, and endeavor to leave their footprints on the sands of time, just as she said that women must speak up against rape and all forms of abuse against women and children, and also speak in defence of the downtrodden and less-privileged in the society.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of the Inspirational Woman Award to the first female mechanic in Nigeria, Mrs. Sandra Aguebor by Mrs. Osinbajo and the unveiling and beautiful rendition of the COWLSO anthem.

Gov. Ambode appointed as Chairman of Southern Governors Forum (SGF) in Lagos

.Southern Governors unite on true federalism, devolution of powers

…To collaborate on security, infrastructure, economy

For the first time in 12 years, Governors of the Southern States of Nigeria on Monday met in Lagos, where they unanimously reiterated the call for true federalism and devolution of powers to States.

The Governors, in a communique at the end of the meeting read by the host Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, also resolved to collaborate with one another for the growth and development of their economies.

Aside Governor Ambode, the meeting was attended by Governors of Ogun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Oyo, Seantor Abiola Ajimobi; Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Ebonyi, David Umahi; Edo, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Ondo, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu; Abia, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu; Enugu, Mr. Henry Ugwuanyi; Bayelsa, Mr. Seriaki Dickson and Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Governors of Cross River, Anambra and Delta were represented by their Deputies - Mr. Evara Esu; Dr. Ikem Okeke and Mr. Kingsley Otuaru respectively.

Continuing with the communique, Governor Ambode said the Governors after extensive deliberations, also emphasized priority on security and lives and property of citizens of the regions, while also resolving to work on effective linkage on good infrastructure across the 17 States in the region.

At the meeting, Governor Ambode was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF) while Governors Seriaki Dickson of Bayelsa and David Umahi of Ebonyi States were appointed as Co- Chairmen of the Forum.
The Forum also scheduled the next meeting for Port Harcourt in a yet to be announced date.

Earlier, Governor Ambode, while welcoming his colleagues to the meeting, reflected on the clamour for true federalism and devolution of powers, saying that states will benefit from the envisaged restructuring.

He said the goals of true federalism, which included the strengthening of autonomy and the enhancement of fiscal viability will enable the states to develop at their own pace and based on their peculiarities.

He said the forum had achieved an increased awareness on the sustenance of the national question germane to peaceful co-existence in the country.

However, he said there is a lot to be done and achieved, stressing that true federalism required urgent, meticulous and proactive attention by the forum.

Ambode frowned at what he described as the non-periodic review of the revenue formula as provided by the constitution to reflect evolving realities.

He said the review is crucial to enhance the viability of states and local government and their capacity to fulfil their developmental roles in the polity.

The governor added: “States are disparaged for always carrying begging bowls to Abuja in quest of hand-outs from the Federal Government. This is a function of our present national constitution that burdens the Federal Government with activities and responsibilities that rightly fall within the province of states.

“The productivity and revenue-generating capacities of most states are thus stifled, thus turning them into no better than street beggar states incapable of even meeting routine obligations of paying workers’ salaries and pensions without federal support.”

Ambode recalled that Lagos State had fought and won several legal battles since 1999 that have systematically strengthened her autonomy and enhanced her fiscal viability.

He noted that the state had won the legal control over the management of its environment, the control of urban and physical planning, the regulation of overhead masts, the registration and regulation of hotels and restaurants, and the control of inland waterways.

Ambode said these victories belonged, not only to Lagos, but also to other states, adding that, if Lagos could achieve so much by fighting alone, the Southern Governors’ Forum will accomplish more through collective planning and strategy.
The governor said the forum has been reactivated at the time the National Assembly is harmonising its differences over the 1999 Constitution amendment, which will soon be transmitted to the Houses of Assembly for approval

He said: “It is important for this forum to comprehensively look at the proposed amendments with a view to working with our respective Houses of Assembly to ensure a coordinated response on our part that will strengthen the practice of democracy, federalism, constitutionalism and the rule of law.
Ambode clarified that, while pushing for greater devolution of powers, responsibilities and resources from the centre to the states, the goal of the forum is neither to a weak centre and strong states and vice versa.

The governor paid tribute to former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu for his initiave, recalling that he hosted the first meeting of the forum in Akodo Beach Resort, Ibeju-Lekki, whe he was at the helm of affairs.

He said while the initiative was received with mixed feelings at the time, Tinubu was vindicated later because of its achievements as the forum became a vocal voice on maters of critical importance, not only to the Southern Nigeria, but to the country as a whole.

Ambode hailed the forum for advocating for a special allocation to oil-producing states in the Federation Account, adding that its agitation led to the current 13 per cent revenue derivation and allocation from the Federation Account.

He said: “Another major victory won towards strengthening the country’s practice of true federalism was the declaration by the Supreme Court in 2002 that the then prevalent practice of the Federal Government deducting monies from the Federation Account as a first charge for the funding of Joint Venture Contracts, the NNPC priority projects, servicing of Federal Government’s external debt, the judiciary and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other federal obligations were illegal and unconstitutional.

“The Supreme Court in that case abolished the special funds created by the Federal Government to enable it draw funds from the Federation Account to pay for matters that fell within its exclusive responsibility before sharing whatever was left with states and local governments.”

Lagos to establish Commercial Courthouse to speed up dispute resolution

...As Ambode swears-in Oke as 16th substantive CJ

…We’ll stamp out corruption, uphold rule of law, new CJ vows

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday unveiled plans by the State Government to establish a designated Commercial Courthouse with the overall objective of ensuring speedy resolution of disputes as well as drive commerce and enhance the ease of doing business in the State.

Speaking at the State Executive Chambers in Alausa while swearing-in Justice Opeyemi Oke as the 16th substantive Chief Judge of the State, Governor Ambode also called for more reforms aimed at fast-tracking justice delivery without necessarily compromising the fundamental principle of fair hearing and the rule of law.

He said: “There is no gainsaying that Lagos is the commercial nerve centre of the country and it deserves a modern state-of-the-art first class Commercial Courthouse to speedily address commercial disputes in the State.

“We plan to establish a designated Commercial Courthouse with the objective of ensuring speedy consideration of commercial matters. It is hoped that this courthouse will accommodate all commercial related organs of the judiciary in order to drive commerce and improve the ease of doing business.”

The Governor, who described the swearing-in ceremony as an affirmation of the belief of the present administration in the rule of law and the importance of the judiciary to the democratic system, said it was gratifying that the State judiciary, since the emergence of Justice Idowu Conrad-Taylor as the first Chief Judge of the State in 1967, had been the only democratic arm of government that had experienced a seamless transition in its leadership.

He said the 50 years of seamless transition aptly qualified the judiciary as one of the most resilient institutions in the State, and congratulated judiciary workers and all the past and present Chief Judges of the State for maintaining the integrity of the institution.

While congratulating Justice Oke, Governor Ambode said the development was a confirmation of her competence, experience and character to preside over the sacred temple of justice, just as he expressed absolute confidence in her intellectual capacity to steer the ship of the State Judiciary on a smooth sail.

The Governor, who alongside the Chief Judge are fellows of the Fulbright Scholarship of the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship from the United States of America, said it was important for Justice Oke to see her appointment as a platform to sustain and improve on the enviable reputation which the State Judiciary had built for itself over the years.

Speaking on areas requiring improvement, Governor Ambode said: “One area of our Judicial System which I consider as work in progress is the speed of justice delivery in the State.  We have made significant progress in this regard with the various reforms that have been initiated and implemented.

“However, I believe strongly that we can do more by stepping up our efforts so that the wheel of justice can roll faster without necessarily compromising the fundamental principle of fair hearing and the rule of law.”

He said owing to the fact that judges in the State face enormous work load as the State judiciary is the busiest in the country, his administration was determined to seek a significant increase in the number of judges to enhance turn-over of cases in the State. He also assured of continued cooperate with the judiciary in developing and implementing appropriate strategies to ensure justice is done speedily.

In her vote of assurance, Justice Oke thanked Governor Ambode and other stakeholders for the confidence reposed in her, saying that she would key into the vision of the Governor who she described as a performer and a big dreamer, to transform the State Judiciary.

The CJ vowed that the Lagos judiciary, under her, would uphold rule of law in interpreting laws, stamp out all forms of official corruption and ensure speedy dispensation of justice, as well as improve public access, transparency and accountability to boost confidence of the public in the judiciary, among others.

Justice Oke was earlier sworn-in as the CJ in acting capacity on September 25, 2017 after the retirement of former Chief Judge, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade on September 24, 2017. Her swearing-in as the substantive CJ, however, followed the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Radio Continental Relaunches as MAX 102.3Fm Lagos

...To focus strictly on entertainment

One of the leading radio stations in Lagos, Radio Continental 102.3fm has relaunched as MAX 102.3 fm on the same frequency. The relaunch was done at a glitzy ceremony held recently at the Federal Palace Hotel, Balmoral Convention Centre Victoria Island.

AgegePulse learnt that the relaunch was part of Continental Broadcasting Service's, CBS plan to refocus the company as a core entertainment station.

You recall that about 400 staff were recently sacked by Television Continental, TVC, a sister brand of the CBS. The development was to relief most of his core news and other fringe staff in order to diversify into majorly entertainment.

Also, there had been speculation that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had withdrawn the licence of Radio Continental including comments by former Minister of Aviation and PDP member Femi Fani-Kayode suggesting that the Buhari-government is getting back at Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is believed to own the radio station as part of TVC Communications group which also includes the TVC, TVC News and Adaba fm Akure but yesterday's relaunching event would prove such negative speculation as unfounded.

Now MAX 102.3, the station will now focus more on Music and has added former Brila fm OAP Murphy Ijemba to its stable which includes the likes of Wale PowPowPow, Honeypot,  Lady ‘O’ Mary, Debbie and Mark ‘DSoulja.

You can listen to and interact with the station via its website Max1023.fm

AGEGE LG BOSS, EGUNJOBI ENACTS BYE-LAWS TO PROTECT PUBLIC PROPERTY

Agege Pulse Magazine

As members of Agege communities continue to perpetrate actions that are defaces and causes serious damages to public properties domicile in the Local Government, the council’s Chairman, Hon. Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi has resolved to enact bye-law tailored to serve as deterrent to the perpetrators.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Rotimi Sulyman, he said the bye-laws, if enacted, would protect public property in the area from abuse by residents and business operators.

Egunjobi said; “Nigeria is today suffering huge infrastructure deficit not only due to government’s failure to make provision at all but also the attitude of the generality of the public,” he said.

“Agege is a miniature Nigeria. And here residents and business operators abuse public infrastructure in unimaginable ways.

“They block access road, deface public property and dump waste in carnal and drainages indiscriminately.

“Artisans also use roadsides for workshops. Their activities and that of traders caused road damage. Some trade on the road and sidewalks.

“All these are clear antithesis to urban renewal drive being vigorously pursued by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, and we cannot continue to lose taxpayers’ money like this,” the chairman said.

Egunjobi stressed that the bylaw would serves as measure of criminalising abuse of public property in the area.

According to him, the law would not only benefit the council but the general public as well, saying “it touches critical issues that facilitate the improvement of public service delivery.”

NNPC Crashes Price Of Petrol, Cooking Gas Nationwide

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that their sustained strategic intervention in the efficient supply and distribution petroleum products, has led to a significant reduction in the prices of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, nationwide.

Spokesman of the corporation, Ndu Ughamadu, in a statement on Sunday, said a national survey by oil and gas forum, NNPC’s weekly TV programme, indicated that in the last few weeks, the price of petrol has fallen steadily from N145 per litre to between N142 and N143 per litre in some stations across the country.

“One of the respondents in the survey and a manager at an independent fuel retail station in Abuja, Mohammed Abdullahi, said the station currently sells petrol at N142 per litre in line with the prevailing market situation in order to sustain the turnover of the business and to attract more motorists to the station,” the statement read.

“Another independent marketer in Mosimi, Emeka Ikechukwu, said the going ex-depot prices of PMS had dropped from N138 per litre in most depots to N133.28 in NNPC depots and between N130 and N131 per litre in private depots.

“However, the situation is slightly different in Aba and Umuahia in Abia State and Calabar in Cross River state where most independent fuel stations as well as major marketers selling the product at N145 per litre.

“The survey also showed a similar trend of drop in price for cooking gas with the average price for refilling 5kg cylinder at N2,215.96 from the former price of N2,500.00.

“The study further revealed that states with the lowest average price for the 5kg LPG refill were Kaduna and Niger at N2,000; Kogi at N2,005.00; and Oyo at N2,033.33.”

Ughamadu also said the prices of cooking gas have also reduced.

“At the NNPC Mega and retail stations nationwide, a 12.5kg of cooking gas that was sold for N4,500 a few months ago is now sold for N3,800 while other retail outlets sell the same quantity for N4,000,” he said.
